I've been DLing Galaxy Express 999. Anyone know how many eps there are in the series?
What are Leiji Matsumoto's best anime series? (Yamato, GE999 etc)
There are 113 episodes. I've seen the first movie and it wa pretty cool, so I've been wanting to check out the series but I can't get Azureus to work for me  . Although I need to finish the Harlock OVA which is pretty pinp!

How is Serial Experiment Lain? I hear it's a thinking type of anime with little to no action. These kinds of animes appeal to me since I liked stuff like Ghost in the Shell, and Perfect Blue.

if you like that stuff then check out Paranoia Agent. its by the same guy that did Perfect Blue, Satoshi Kon.
and I just started watching Mezzo DSA. so far it really rocks.
also watching Gundam F91 movie. not bad. Better than the new gundam shit that is out. but then Ive always liked the older gundam better than the new.
also watching Tsukihime Lunar Legend. Good shit so far. seems to be a cool take on the vampire idea.

Anyone seen Nadia? is it any good?
Nadia Secret of Blue Water, I am assuming you mean...
but yea, thats one of my favorite series of all time. It's done by Gainax I think, and I do believe it was directed by Anno (guy who created NG Eva).
its a pretty long series. Like 30 something eps. It's got a great story and good characters, but admittedly the series slumps in the middle for a few eps. Then it picks back up again.
but overall I hghly reccommend the series.

Any of guys/gals ever sold any of your anime over Ebay? I've been meaning to do this but haven't gotten the motivation yet. I'm trying to clear space on my dvd/vhs rack as well as get rid of stuff I don't use or watch any more.
Here are the list of titles I'm looking to sell
R.O.D OVA
Kai Doh Maru
Berserk Boxset - the one that opens like a book
Akira LE - the one that came in the tin
Ruroni Kenshin vol.1-14
Escaflowne Boxset w/Toy
Hellsing - still iffy one selling this one
Maison Ikkoku Boxsets 1&2 - see above
Kurogane Communications
NGE Boxset - I told myself I wouldn't double dip but after seeing the box and the individual cases for the new ones, i was like HOLY FUCK :wow: :wow: :wow:
Trigun boxset
I was wondering if you all thought I would be able to get something descent for these or not.
Thanx

PLEASE NO SPOILERS TO THE ENDING OF THE GTO MANGA!! I kinda have a felling how it will end after seeing the cover for the original but still, spoiler warnings, BIG ONES, would be nice.
Another ?, for those you have seen/read both, how does Maison Ikkoku manga compare to the anime.

The Trigun boxset I have is the one that first came out(man I wish I had a digital camera). Brown, says TRIGUN The Complete DVD Box Set on the front. I'm not sure for how much, since I'm, still kinda sorta iffy on selling it, but that would be my next ?. Does anyone know of a site that has price list for what these should be sold for so I could get a good guesstimate or should I just put the stuff I'm selling down as a bid and see what I can get for it.

yea i feel the same way. I like his stuff, but damn, evidentally controlling his hormones is not on the top of his agenda. LOL and speaking as someone who knows, large breasted females do not want to run around shooting people and doing countless other strenuous activities with out some sort of support. It would ultimately be painful to say the least.
Its the one thing that tends to bother me about anime in general. 99% of it is created and drawn by males, so not suprisingly, it tends to only be an extension of their perverted fantasies.
I have no problems with drawing attractive people in anime, but sometimes it just gets ridiculous and contrived.
but anyway, shirow also definitely has some sort of preoccupation with vaginas. (not that most men arent precoccupied with that particular area) but He sure loves showing off snatch i tell you.

I agree, he gets a bit carried away and so does Satoshi Urishihara.. I love his work and I'm inspired by his coloring style (i'm studying Sequential Art) but I'm hesitant to buy his Art books because well if you've seen anything Urishihara does well, you'd know why (Langrisser,Plastic Little,Chirality,Lemnear). Yet I can buy Shirow's work lol...Most men are quite preoccupied with vaginas but Shirow takes it to his own level. I have most of his artbooks and its a pattern, if you will in each one. GF endlessly used to rag on me about it...
angelpalm
12-13-2004, 01:06 PM
lol, i guess its cause the vagina is a beautiful thing.
a-chan: whats up with with chicks and their titties, why is it that some chicks with nice scrumptious breast complain that they just get in the way and then on the other hand, we got these other chicks that just love them so much that they go out of their way to make them bigger?
seriously whats up with that? it might be to complicated to anwser here so if you would like to make a new thread(complete with personal photos for reference) i would completely understand...
akumachan
12-13-2004, 01:19 PM
Nokato: LOL @ the art books. And yea i have the Intron Depot books so I know what you are talking about. and as for Urishihara, agreed. he goes out of his way to make body parts look like they've been greased up too. especially Plastic Little. I guess thats why i like Obari's works. He seems to be fair across the board. He draws ridiculously hot girls but he also draws ridiculously hot guys, and for that Im thankful ^_^ Girls need eye candy love too.
angel: i didnt say that having large boobs is bad. I dont know a single girl with large boobs who regrets having them including myself. Never having to worry about filling out the upper portion of a dress is good. I will never complain about being well endowed. But, I said that doing aerobic activities without support is simply not an option. Even walking at a brisk pace without a bra, while that activity can significantly increase car accidents in the immediate area, it is not comfortable for the girl in question. So running around, shooting things, and jumping over fences without support is most certainly not fun. But males who make anime and videogames seem to think that high impact activities can be done comfortably without proper support.
and in lieu of personal photos, im sure your imagination will suffice.

I was thinking about getting the manga for Kenshin. I liked the 2nd(3rd?) OVA tho'.
k since i some what opend this bigcan of worms i'll explain.
manga and kenshin were like naruto how manga and tv series be neck and neck just about. so when start or half way point of the kyoto arc the manga writer started on the last2 arcs memories, and revenge arc, only problem he did like chapter once every 2 weeks. well when kyoto arc ended there was not enough time wait for rest of the chapters be finished and put into anime so sony chose to let the animaters throw there ideas out and started kenshin 3rd arc which was dubbed "filler season" and thus the ratings slumped and kenshin was CANCELD but sony did make memories into ova (one of the best ovas ever by the way).
but people wanted see true ending of kenshin so sony did special ova 2d which based life of kenshin through ms. karou eyes. which had mix reaction with kenshin fans which the majorty hated cuz they pretty much cut whole 3rd season into half ep didn't didn't really show how enishi broke kenshin mind, and soul. and ending was not the greatest.
hope that helps explain things. so yes pick up the rest manga.

I already knew about the differences between the manga & anime of Kenshin, but I just never had an intrest in the manga since I was already into Vagabond. I still haven't seen the rest of the Kenshin anime(it's been 2 years since I said I will pick up the rest), so I'm thinking about selling the TV series I have (1-14) and plan to buy the mangas. Keeping the OVAs tho'. I thought the end of the recent OVA wasn't that bad but then again I haven't checked out the manga so I can't compare it like I have with GTO manga&anime.

I saw the first half of Appleseed the new CG movie. I like it so far, but I wasn't prepared for it's 'videogame-like' visuals. I had seen trailers for it before and never felt this way, but actually watching the full movie was like watching a really long ingame cut scene. seriously???? 13 DVDs for 26 eps???? holy shit. they havent done shit like this since the days of Anime VIllage and Blue Sub 6.
Damn Im glad Im not paying for any of it. but that does suck. I will mention this total lack of regard for customers when I write my review.

its not licening price i think it has do with being "YESMAN" like some agreeing with all sorts gudielines in license contract get a license. like case cloased name changes wasn't funi choice that was tbs. honesty if better idea would had been if adv would had did slim case which holds 2 dvd in one case would been somewhat better. and adv not talking bout this subject at all.

Genshiken is awesome because it's a parody of fanboyism, really. It's the story of an otaku club and their daily doings (or lack thereof). It also references a lot of current stuff. One ep was just a Guilty Gear advertisement, really.
Beck is about a about a guy who ends up joining a rock band, more or less. That's blatant oversimplification, but still true. Also includes a lot of really hilarious English, which seems to always includ "fuck" as about every fifth word.
Gankutsu Ou is a retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo. 'Nuff said.
WasFemto
12-15-2004, 09:23 PM
How does Genshiken stack up to Otaku no Video as far as parody anime? Would it be better since it's more current or because it doesn't have as many obscure refrences as OnV? Could you please elaborate Genshiken vs OnV, if possible.
Gasaraki
12-15-2004, 09:46 PM
Genshiken is a hell of alot funnier than OnV, plus it's an on going series so you get to see alot more humor. Also, Genshiken is specifically about a club called "The Study of Modern Visual and Written Media on the Culture" or something like that, and when that's all said in japanese they abbreviate it to Genshiken.

Did anyone peep the latest Anime Invasion? I'm not a big Anime afficianado, but I thought their list of top 50 Anime DVDs was decent. What are your thoughts Tempest?
My online courses have taken much of my free time, so I haven't really watched anything lately. I finally got to watch the Big O Vol. 2 (thanks to the collection Bandai recently put out). I loved it. It had a surprise ending.
I'm really torn on whether I should purchase the three Macross sets Right Stuff is selling, the Last Exile set (I have the first three DVDs, but it would cost about the same to buy the last four volumes) and getting a hold of FLCL from Planet Anime (I can't find it anywhere else).

A tip from my friend if you like Neon Genesis Evangelion. Right now at the website above, use the coupon code "12days" (no quotes, expires 12/24/2004) you can buy the entire DVD Box set for $40. There are some other things discounted similarly for sure, some shown on the front page.
I bought Evangelion because of its rep, and I had never scene it, so I figured I could watch it and sell it for a profit if I didn't like it.

I tried checking on the internet, but I couldn't come across when new episodes of Inuyasha will begin airing. Someone on here said in December but I don't know about that. Also I've heard a rumor that Inuyasha was cancelled in Japan. Something about around episode 160 or so and out of the blue they stopped production of it. I hope this isn't so because this is my favorite anime to watch right now.

Am I wrong in saying that everything just sorted of started over again because it's a tv show. The old man requested Roger negotiate with the show's creator, but he could never remember until it was too late. (If I'm wrong, cool, drop knowledge)
And the other side effect from watching the show was the Western Influence. It was obviously influenced by the Batman the Animated tv show. Combining the Japanese Giant Robo with the Detective/play boy was cool, which might have explained why it never caught on there. But when it appeared on these shores, the western influence once again spurred the creation of new episodes.

I took your advice and took advantage of the sale. I purchased Last Exile Vol. 4-7, Bastard and Submarine 707. I tried to get self-contained Animes. I didn't want to start on any new series, as I would prefer to wait for a box set (like Big O Vol. 1 and 2). I was so pissed when I walked into Best Buy and saw Berserk for $50.

fair enough, and very noble of you to give sub 707 a fighting chance, but so far opinion of it that I have heard has been universally mediocre to bad. and after seeing it myself, I concur.
Its storytelling at its worst. No character development, little background information, terrible ending. Its just all bad. I had such high hopes for that title too since it was based on the blue Sub 6 manga. I was hoping to see something as good as Blue sub 6.
the only part of blue sub 707 that doesnt suck is the halfway decent animation.
and of course there are always varying opinions of things, but IMO there are series that some people like and some people dont, and then theres stuff that universally sucks.
I place sub 707 in the universally sucks category.
But since you did spend your hard earned money on it. I do hope you like it more than I did.

Would you care to elaborate on the conclusion of Big O Vol. II? Any ensight you can give would be helpful.
This is what AnimeonDVD's Chris Beveridge said about the ending, which doesn't really clarify it any better:
"Whether this is Konaka's attempt to throw his hat into the ring for creating one of the most confusing and oblique endings of any series is up for grabs, but I know that as it all played out, from the subtle religious aspects to the simple wipes of the scenery and revelation of the TV cameras and stages, I was on the edge of my seat following it all. And after spending several hours reading various forums and analysis pages about the ending of the series I'm not any closer to really understanding the ending. It can be interpreted in a number of different ways, each of them seemingly valid and equally interesting really. For a lot of people, these kinds of endings are frustrating and can ruin the entire show. I've had that happen with a few before, but with Big O I find myself fascinated by it and actually interested in reading all the different interpretations. While this one does have a few religious overtones to it, it's not as heavy as some other certain shows, which allows for a wider interpretation. Add in some of the little background bits that are scattered into the episodes and this is a show that could provide years of enjoyment in coming to grips with."
I'm going to try to take the next couple of weeks to catch up to all of the Anime I've stock piled in the last year (Gasaraki, His and Her Circumstances, X, yadda, yadda).
From your list, I'd like to get ROD TV, Paranoia Agent (fan of the director of Tokyo Godfathers, Perfect Blue and Millenium Actress) and Gungrave. What are your (or anyone's) thoughts on Ghost In the Shell Stand Alone Complex? I was also interested in that (and of course Evangelion Platinum).

************SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T WATCHED BIG O*************
We find out everyone has been playing the role in a show, which clashes with Roger's belief of being free to choose.
The old dude hired Roger Smith to negotiate with the creator of the show to have all the cast keep their memories (whenever it rebooted). Somehow, he failed in that task (no telling how many times). We discover Angel is the creator or some god-like entity, and Smith tries to negotiate for her not to erase everyone's memories and then zip; we start again from square one.
I tired scouring the Animeondvd forums for explanations, but all I could find was that review, which seemed to have the same confusion or feeling of vagueness I had.
Overall, a good series, but like a few other Animes, it ends sort of ambiguosly (the viewer is left to formulate what happened like a reader would in a complex literary work).

I don't know. Those anime publishers try to stiff you on the content/price ratio. Besides, I have the whole series now, where as it could some time in 2006 before it's complete for US release, by then I won't care about it. I'm also keeping up with the manga (Animewaves), as it may have a different ending.
Also, does anyone know where I can get the Sakura Diaries manga. I collected the VHS series as they were released, and I heard the manga has a better ending. As with alot of anime the ending leaves you in speculation.
Lastly, what are some series I should get?
Taboo is fine, like gender bending(Ranma), and even that which is in Koi Kaze, as long as there is no man on man action. But mainly these kinds of things are what I'm looking for now.
Please list good downloads, and good store purchases. I have already d/l 'ed, and bought stuff that was recommended in this thread, so I don't think I'll be steered wrong.

As far as Peacemaker Kurogane is concerned how would you guys stack it up against the RK TV series? I saw the previews and it looked pretty sweet. I remember reading about it when it was coming out on fansub and a numer of posters frome animeondvd.com(used to post there all the time) mentioned it's pretty slow paced up until episode 22, which doesn't bother me as long as the story is good. I saw the vol.1+box with vol.1 manga inside and was thinking I might just go with the manga if this series is any good.

As for manga, well, I''m about mid-way through vol. 9 of Kenshin. You see a lot more of Shishio here and Sojiro just seems like one messed up kid. Kid is deaf to emotions because of something that happend to his family. And since Kenshin's fighting style relies heavily on reading the opponent's mind, well, that's one tough battle ahead.

Well I picked up New FotN vol.2 today which was pretty cool(can't wait for vol.3), Golden Boy (been wanting to see this for ages) and Paranoia Agent vol.1(almost got the vol.1 plus box, but I didn't care for the plushie and if I want the box I can get an wmpty one form rightstuf). Loved FotN and only saw one episode of Golden Boy for now but was LOLing quite a bit. Have yet to watch Paranoia Agent but this shit looks creepy  .
I saw the vol.1+box with vol.1 manga inside and was thinking I might just go with the manga if this series is any good.
its pretty good although i'll say its below kenshin.
oh righstuf discontinued the P.A box so better get it now.
yes reggie by now seta gives kenshin though fight he ver had. you have watch it in the anime its very very good battle. peace

They had quite a bit of them at Best Buy but that sucks. I'll live tho' but anytime I think "Oh fuck it, why pay more for the box when all I'm gonna do is really watch the dvd itself" then shit like this happens.
Another ?. Is the Jin-Roh S.E. discontinued as well....read above qoute.

Only got 2 more episodes of Golden Boy to go. This shit is fucking hilarious. I haven't laughed out loud in awhile, but this got me doing it. Everything from the faces to the situations is pure gold(gotta love when Kintaro's hand turned into a penis   ). I've heard mixed, but more bad things than good things about this OVA and I'm wondering why. That's partly the reason I've been putting off this series, mostly tho' it was me not being able to find it( FYI, if you don't do your shopping online I got mine at Best Buy for 12.99). I recommed this to anyone who hasn't seen it and is looking for a good laugh, with lots of fanservice and great character designs. The girls in this are smoking but that's to be expeceted when it's coming from Toshihiro Kawamoto(character designer for Bebop).
Man, I love mid-90s animation.

That website sells Hong Kong Anime DVDs. I have few Hong Kong Anime DVDs. I noticed Hong Kong Anime DVD's Naruto and Cheeky Angel showed misspelled and bad grammar subtitles. Ebay sellers sell both Hong Kong and downloading fansubtitled DVDs. Most fansubtitled anime did say, "Do not sell any fansub anime through any websites and Ebay".
I have Golden Boy video tapes. It was good. I bought Golden Boy manga. It was far better than anime version. But... it was hentai unlike anime version was ecchi. It reminded of Sakura Diaries (anime- ecchi, manga- hentai).
Rightstuf has very good bargain anime boxes for limited time (I think) than Best Buy.
Best Buy- I bought Tsukage Ran Complete Box Set for $25.

I opened my copy tho'(still haven't watched it) but I still have my receipt. I mean, there is no way for them to know if I purchased one since two are on the recipt. Will they go check the tape(I'm assuming they have'em over the registers) at the time of the transaction or what? Also I don't want the guy to get in trouble since I 'm sure it was an honest mistake. I remember getting the Akira L.E. tin for $20 instead of $40 because of the pricing error (which the manager o.k.d), so I know shit like this can happen.

What's everybody's opinion on Witch Hunter Robin?
Anyone seen it, any good? Great? Shitty? If it's been brought up in this thread before, trust me, I haven't read through this thing. Cut and paste if you like.
Right now, my anime of choice is a little ditty called Beck.
Beck is basically a rock music anime, but more importantly it's about your average, run of the mill nerdy/shy/incompetent Shinji type character that finds himself through music and the help of a charismatic and prodigious young rocker and his band. There's no relation to the existing Beck music group; they named it after the rocker's dog.
The tone of the anime is very mature and dark at times, so don't think that it's some random happy anime. The art varies, but it's generally good. It does a great job of incorporating 3D work, which they use on close up shots of guitars and other musical instruments. Performances can look a little dead and not too animated, but it's the beginning of the series so I'll let it slide. The music itself is pretty good, as far as television music goes. They're pretty catchy to me.
I personally like it because hell, it's about music. It's also neat because it makes references to many different groups, new and old, and to different styles of music. One of the leading groups of the series, Dying Breed, is sort of their version of Nirvana (whom they mention too), while one of the characters' favorite bands is The Rocket Boys, whose style is completely reminiscent of early British rock like The Beatles. The reference goes to another extent when the album cover looks surprisingly similar to The Hives.
Anyways it's cool, there are actual songs in it, and you can bet the OST is gonna rock--literally. Just something to throw out for you guys.

Nah, I don't think it's been brought up before besides the usual "here are some anime I'm currently watching" posts. My personal opinion? It was okay. Nothing special, but I wouldn't say it sucked either. It held my interest the entire way through, that's about it. I think it's more popular among the goth/vampire crowd.

Yeah, this was pretty much my assumption after watching the first episode. I was checking to see if it picked up any as you get along, cause from the first ep it looked to be one of those slow paced shows. Which can be very dangerous since when not done right slow paced becomes boring.

I've heard of Excel Saga a million times. The name had me thinking it was some RPG type anime where some party is on a quest to save the world. Man, was I WAAAAAAAAY off. I watched a AMV with the song "Everything You Know Is Wrong" and I've never seen such oddball antics happen in such a short amount of time. I was laughing my head off. So I went over to my friend's apartment and check out the first episode of the series. If I were to sum it up in one word it would be this: RANDOM!! :wow: I have never in my life seen so much random crap happen in an anime series. Excel was killed in the first episode probably more times than Kenny was killed in the first season of South Park. And I thought FLCL was weird. I loved the first ep so much that when we went out to Mavericks after watching it, I picked up vol. 1 manga of Excel Saga. I just gotta see this series through to the end.
I also picked up:
InuYasha vol. 20
Astro Boy vol. 1
As for Astro Boy, I wanted to get it for so long but I've never seen it anywhere. This is classic stuff here so I just had to buy it.

I bought Ghost in the Shell Innocence and Samurai-X Reflection: Director's Cut.
I watched X. I couldn't tell the difference between the original and this one. I was hoping there would be more fight scenes.
I only watched about a half hour of GITS 2. It looks beautiful. The animation, the CG, color and music are aesthetically top notch. I do understand where people are coming from with the captions. It's kind of annoying. If it were an option for the hard of hearing, it would be cool, but I don't need to know if there's a sound effect, who's talking, etc. It also would have been nice if they included an English track. You'd think with all the money Dreamwave has, they'd be able to make a kick-ass disc.
Oh well.
I also took advantage of another Right Stuff weekly sale and purchased the Fruit Basket collection, since people rave about it.

Been watching some shows I've had for the longest time but haven't gotten around to see them 'cuz of school. About to start on the 3rd box for SDF Macross, which is just awesome. I love this series and wish I knew how to configure my torrent so I can watch Macross Zero. The other one being X tv. Loving this shit a well. Had to back track to remember what exactly went on and how it went down, but back on vol.6. Still neeed to watch RG Utena, Kurogane Communications and....that's about it. Still need to get the rest of Azumanga Daioh, Captain Herlock OVA, Kino's Journey vol.4 and so on and so forth.
Stoked about the upcomong vol. of GTO manga. It's been a fun series that I'm happy to see come closer to ending but that the same time sad about it since it has to end. I really need to start getting back into Vagabond. The last volume I bought was 3 and that was when it came out.
On a side note how many volumes is the Battle Royale manga? I bought the Japanese ones last year in San Fran. I have 1-7 and 9. Did TP make any changes as well to the American version. I figure it didn't, since I have vol.1 of the sereis and there were no changes.

Well got some more money as a late Christmas gift and went to BB. Picked up volume 3 of New FotN, vol.2 of Azumanga, and the Ninja Scroll SE edition. Only watched a little bit of NS (parents wanted to watch a movie) and noticed that the this anime has aged quite a bit(it's 11 years old I know). Still a kick ass action movie but I bummed out that you need an actual widescreen TV to see it in widescreen instead of being letterboxed. I was viewing this on a 60 inch HDTV and the picture was stretched like whoa!
FotN. Holy shit was this fucking beatiful. This is how a martial arts animation should be done. The ending was kinda meh but the last fight got my adrenaline going, with the music and animation. I can't wait 'till the next OVA  This will be watched over and over and over and over....
Still haven't watched Azu vol.2. I enjoyed the first vol. alot when I bought it last year but have not been keeping up with this series.
I saw the Devil Lady Collection for $31.99 over at BB today and almost picked that up. I've heard alot of good things about this series, mainly from AoD and was wandering what the rest of guys and gals thought about this series? I rented the first volume sometime last year at the local comic book shop but wasn't really feeling it too much, but then again I was tired and wanted sleep but this was due back the next day.
I'm kicking myself for not getting in on that Geneon sale at RightStuf. They still got it posted so I wonder...but most likely not. I could've got caught up with Texchnolyze and finised the Harlock OVA. DAMN ME!!! DAMN ME!!!

Starting to visit AoD again, anyways here is some manga news. It applys to Australia but oh well.
Madman Talks Manga, Peacemaker (08:31 AM EST): The folks at Madman Entertainment out of Australia are starting their new year off right with this pair of announcements. First, this press release talks about their plans for three new manga series to come out, Slam Dunk, Fruits Basket and Love for Venus, all of which are due on 02/09/2005 for $12.95 a volume (which is pretty much the equivelant of $10 US depending on the time of day the currency exchange is at). Secondly, they've also announced their formal plans for the first volume of Peacemaker, which is due out next week.

I bought a couple of animes last week. They were on sale too. 50% off! $60 total with no tax either . I got:
- FLCL: This is one one of my favorite animes ever. I was looking to buy some thinking anime and a friend reccomended this to me. He said all this crazy shit happens like a girl hits a guy with a guitar and then robots come out of his head. So I was like sure, I'll give it a try. Sure engough, I liked it. Funny as hell too.
- Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence: This one was good. I The 3D visuals were amazing. The story was OK but what I really didn't like about it was that there wasn't enough of Kusunagi. Other than that, I liked it.
- Serial Experiments Lain (BOX): This series is good. Not too short or too long for me.

It's Mamimi on the right and on the left is GUM from the Jet Set Radio games.
FLCL is probably my favorite series as well. I rented it a month after vol.1 came out at my local comic book/toy model/nerd type store and fell in love with it. Watched it about 3 timies in a row, barely watched any of Kare Kano(I was in a Gainax mood). When I returned it, I ended up buying the 2 soundtracks to it and bought vol.1 right then and there and proceded to wait an eternity for the other two volumes.
Sorry I never got back to your post about Millenium Actress last year. I was trying to figure your question as well, Q1 is yes and Q2 I'm pretty sure was real life.

Since the manga is very short and I only have 2 completed manga series (the original Dragon Ball. Got all 16 vols. and SandLand) I figured I'd go ahead and just get it to finish it off. I've seen FLCL through in the anime like 4-5 times so far. The manga is a bit different from the anime but both are still very good. I originally thought the manga would be like 3 vols. or something but nah, just 2.
I also picked up the latest Shonen Jump and Ruruoni Kenshin vol. 10. Kenshin is actually fighting without his Sakaboto!! :wow: But he gets a new one. And I love Misao. She first came in at vol. 8 and I've loved her ever since. Her relationship with Kenshin has me laughing all the time. It's like Kenshin & Karuo's relationship only without the romance. Sojiro has been sent to gather then Ten Swords. I guess these guys are Shishio's most elite fighters. Anji, the one Sano met in vol. 9, shockingly turns out to be one of the Ten Swords. Looks like he and Sano will do battle in upcoming volumes. The Kyoto Arc is just AWESOME!!
I saw eps 2-3 of Excel Saga. Man, this stuff is so freaking hilarious. I was going to watch eps 4-5 but my friend who let me borrow his DVD said for some reason they wouldn't play. I can't wait to see more eps of this series. I haven't even read my vol. 1 of the manga. I think I may end up liking the anime even more just from the first 3 eps I've seen.

Alright well I recently finished Maison Ikkoku. Great stuff but I got a bit annoyed near the end by all the misunderstood drama and stuff. My friend gave me manga vol. 1&2 of Louie the Run Soldier and I was pretty happy. I never heard of the series but it was entertaining to read. Gonna get the next vol. later on. I also got GTO boxset 1&2 for Christmas but they were ordered online so they haven't arrived yet  . Hope it's real funny! Lemme see... well my brother gave me a subscription to New Type for Christmas so that's awesome. I just saw Escaflowned the Movie and I thought it was cool. Heard the episodes are alot better though so I dled them but haven't watched them yet. And I think that's about it. Still waiting for Dark Horse to release the new AMG GN.

YOU HAVE TO PICK THIS UP NO MATTER WHAT! Okay so that was overdoing it, but this show was fucking awesome. I picked my copy at BB for $9.99. It was the ADV's Anime Essential collection. It comes with the two discs in one package(3 eps per discs)
Started watching Xtv again and am loving this shit (on vol.6)
Also been watching Maison Ikkoku. I've had the first two box sets forever and watched them but wasn't feeling them that much. So far I'm on vol.2 box 1 and am enjoyin it alot more. When I first got the boxsets I was on my way to my cousins and watched them there but couldn't get into them 'cuz everyonw kept asking questions why I like anime.

Since my failure to finish One Piece II in Japanese (too much freakin kanji) Ive now started and am halfway through Yume no Tsuzuki (Continuation of a Dream) in japanese, much much easier than One Piece.
May I also recommend a few Japanese dramas:
★Beautiful Life (This has Koyuki in it, the girl who played Taka in Last Samurai)
★GTO- you may be familiar with the manga or the anime version, but nothing beats the drama version! (plenty of cute jpn girls for the otaku obsession)
★Summer Snow - Starring one of the guys from Kinki Kids (jpop)and one of the most famous jpn actresses (except I forgot her name hehe)
...and the list goes on, if anyone is interested in titles, let me know, Ive seen a ton of them.

Those drama series are as old as cvs2 / 3s...
I liked Beautiful life cuz there is that smap guy and TM revolution in there.
The girl in Summer Snow is Hirosue Ryoko? I dont think she's still popular now

It's very hard to tell if you're being sarcastic or not. But just in case you aren't, that "ugly girl" is a guy, Gackt. The Japanese MJ is probably the easiest way to describe him.

I've been (unfortunately) watching anime since before I could remember. First series I saw was Escaflowne, back in the days of fansubs on VHS through the mail. After that we watched all 96 episodes of Kenshin... Holy fuck that was alot of tapes. Anime is so much easier now with the internet. But yeah, I've been around the anime block a few times, she's an expensive one for a good nights pleasure, but you get used to it.
So far series I recommend that might not be entirely mainstream:
Scryed: Hands down this is my favorite series so far. The boxed set is out and its 99 bucks (got my from bestbuy). The dubs are ok until people get to fighting, then when they yell stuff out it just sounds ridiculous, so stick with the jap voices and subtitles.
Sexy Commando: Oh hell yeah, this is an awesome series. Wacky highjinks, comedy... I need to pull my pants down at the next tourney I go to. I don't think this has been released in the states, so you'll prolly have to find a torrent.
Junni Kokki: Much slower paced anime with a pretty twisted plotline. This isn't something I recommend for everyone, its kind of a slow paced show, and I don't even feel it falls into a 'male or female' category like most anime does. The protagonist is female, but the role could have been played just as well by a male. My only gripe with this is that it ends at episode 45, and the series was originally planned to be like 108 episodes. So the story is incomplete, but I still thought it was an amazing watch.
Shadow Skill: Definately a 'boys' anime, though it features a female protagonist. Sometimes the animation got really slack, but on the action scenes where it counted it never lacked. Elle (main female) is voiced by Megumi Hayashibara, and though she has some fucked up teeth she still is an amazing voice actress. This series is mostly fighting, over the top action, and was just really really cool. Onigiri did subs of the TV series, and I think the OVA or movie was released in the states. Either way, I loved this series too.
Thats about it for me now. I just finished watching Tenjou Tenge season 1 tonight, and I'm actually hoping for a season 2. I really liked the manga, but they changed so much... and they whomever was scanlating it stopped cause I think DC comics picked it up. So I'll actually have to buy the rest of it... lets hope it comes in graphic novel format instead of issue by issue. But yeah, I've had my finger off the pulse of the anime community for about 3 years now, once I realized I was spending more time watching crazy japanese cartoons than I was anything else. So now I spend my time playing crazy japanese video games instead, so much more rewarding.
