I there a way to convet adx files to mp3 or listen to adx files?
Toodles
03-27-2005, 05:41 PM
to play in winamp: http://www.boob.co.uk/usertools.html , look for Vmaj Dreamcast Sound Emulator
The normal ADX tools used in changing the music will allow you to convert them to wav's and back; if you want mp3's, use that to convert them to wav's, and any number of tools to convert them to mp3.

You can do a selfboot disc, Ive done it before. As for your other problem, your sure its actually trying to burn under 700 MB? Also you might try using some different CDs, doesnt sound exactly the same but Ive had times where I just couldnt burn something cause of the media, it'd just fail no matter what.

Can you make a custom CvS2/MvC2 with the Xbox versions?
ComboMasher
04-14-2005, 06:06 AM
!(•_•)! - I am not sure, assuming the song files are ADX on the Xbox version then I guess it would be possible. But you would have to extract the data from the Xbox disc differently then you would for a DC disc.
ruin- What do all the files added up to? Like 300MB or 600MB? if so then he sent you the extracted files from MvC2. All you need to do is make an image file out of those files and burn the disc with disc juggler.
Can this be done with the commercial release of the US version of MvC2? Thats all I have.
Do you mean the actual store bought DC version of mvC2? If so then yeah it is possible, but there is a lot of unnecessary work that need to be done like buying coders cables etc...Just download the Mvc2 image file from someone and go from there.

im having problems converting SOME of the songs to ADX, dunno why...
i had this ambicious idea about this particular game for DC and i might need your help (please say yes!).
I had got this video from gamecombos site something like 3 years ago (if not even earlier) from the same guys that managed to change MvC2 game music into custom ones, in which it shows some characters being mixed between them, like just renaming the characters files between them and actually the game worked. you can see Megaman being actually Marrow...imagine Marrow in Megaman's suit trying to do her supers, specials, etc. just like that. Thanos is changed by Psylocke so you can see Thanos doing some Psy-moves and screaming like her. the same goes for Sakura / Cammy, but this last one is very interesting, 'cause Cammy's voice is from CvSnk game from DC, not the MvC2 one. I can share the vid of course for the curiosity.
anyways, i'm not wanting to add extra characters to the game, i just wanna know if there's a chance to know which one is the sound effects file inside the CD, you know, the hit fx's, hyper combos sound fx's, the announcer's voice, etc. just about sounds, no need for new characters, really. also you know when you unlock new stages they use the same music for each version, for example: daylight navy ship and night time navy ship, they both use the same .adx file (adx_s000.bin) , i was wondering if something can be done about that, for them to load another .adx file, a brand new one, just messing with an hex decimal editor.
PLEASE answer me about this ideas, please if there is any tool developer here, even helping a litle bit would be greatly appretiated, i'm not getting support from anyone :(
thanx in advance, please help meee :'(

I was wondering if anyone has tried to change the music in SSF2 Turbo? The Echelon version, the only version that exists to my knowledge. I have made many copies of custom MvC2 and CvS2 and they all worked just fine, but SSF2X doesn't work the same. I've tried changing the LBA to specified numbers that I've ran across on some other forums, but they never got far enough to make the game work correctly. At this rate I can't even make a successful backup copy, much less a custom mix.
BTW, to all you people who are wondering where to get an IP.BIN, just extract it from the Utopia Boot CD. All you need is that one, and only that one since it will work for all three games 3rd Strike, CvS2 and MvC2.
Anyway, has anyone tried it on SSF2X? I can get it to boot. It will start off fine and let you hit start once, and then the controls stop working - can't even soft reset! The demo match will start and then start going reeeeaaalllllyyy slow and then both players' power bars will start to drain all by themselves. Then another demo match will start and it will keep on looping in this manner.
Anyone have a clue?
Let me know, and thanx in advance for any help!

Well, i'm not sure if anyone has made a successful copy of SF2X, Custom one in that matter.
It has never been asked about. The only game they want to know is CvS2, 3S, MvC2.
The best way might be to trying to get ahold of ECHELON if he is still around and try asking him. Since he made it, he might know
Hope that helped in some way.
i have, and it's the same as mvc2, 3rds, etc, i've replaced its music with HSF2 cps1 tunes...only thing you need to do is 1 extra step:
1.- make a cd image file of your SSF2X
2.- use IP Extractor from Megalexx ( http://members.lycos.co.uk/megalexxx/ )
3.- use this new ip.bin you just got for the selfbooting process
ps: see the vid please , can someone help on that one?
4.- you know what to do ;)

I dont see why not. I do not have the 3 in 1 ISO so i havent looked at the raw data of the game. But as long as there were seperate ADX files for each game or if you could locate all the adx files there shouldnt be any problem changing the music. As long as everything goes fine in the selfbooting process I think it should work.

Ok, so Im getting the same problem where the MvC2 disc will power on, disaply DC logo, display Sega logo, reboot and repeat. I followed the instructions of someone else at the start of the thread, where I deleted the IP.BIN file from the root of the folder, and tried to convert it in bin2boot. Bin2boot looked for an IP.bin file, if I say no to create it, it wont run. If I say Yes, it then creates the IP.BIN file, which leads me back to square one.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you, ComboMasher.... nicely done, very helpful.
For the guy that asked, I still crack the occasional beer with kafuin_gaira; he doesn't play fighters that much anymore, and doesn't really make customs (although he has been gracious enough to agree to teach me). I think making a number of 3S discs for people will take the taste for making customs out of your mouth somewhat... Anyway, I think that video tutorial was his parting gift, he never did it much after that.

I have the same problem. I am using XP Pro SP2 and this is the error message verbatim:
______________________
|16-bit MS-Dos Subsystem| <---blue banner at top of message
Command Prompt - bin2boot mvc2.bin
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application
_____ ______
|Close| |Ignore|
Sorry about the crappy buttons, but you get the idea.
I don't think that any version of bin2boot will work. Bin2boot is meant to run with a 16bit version of dos, and it looks like it just isn't compatibe with XP (I hope this isn't true  ). I have been using b2b ever since it came out, but I had stopped just before I got my new pc, and now I can't use it. I have tried every version that I have and nothing. Exoboot might work, I am going to try it out now.
I ran into this when trying to make my custom Marvel. Even though a fix may have been posted already, I used the following link for an explanation and some DOS files that can help:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/16bit.htm
Hope that helps somebody out.

If you know how to use linux, sure. But it would actually be easier to rebuild a 3in1 from the ground up with the new music than it would be to modify TDC_Final's music (which would still require linux knowledge. I haven't found a program in Windows that creates 'hard links' in ISO's)

I was able to get kafuin_gaira to instruct me on making a custom MvC2; at one point he was making tons of them and was taking requests both on SRK and on the GoForBroke hub. He likes doing a lot of the steps via the Command Prompt, and I was able to save the log when he did mine. It starts with him converting some of the song files; it doesn't contain the dummy file step at all because that part was already done. There was one erroneous part that he personally snipped out of the log.
If you know DOS well and are comfortable with it and have a good understanding of how making customs works, then doing at least some of the steps this way might save you some time. If not, it would probably just confuse you a lot & you'd be better off the conventional way. Anyway, here's the log.....

^^ There the best place to start to learn how to put multiple games on one disc. The method I used to squeeze 3rd Strike down and the soundtrack options in TDC_Final arent detailed much anywhere, because as far I can tell, they require linux know how to do. But if you just want to throw a couple of games onto a disc, the above link will help.

Look in the Z_mvc2 (I forget if its X_, Y_, or Z_. Its (letter)_mvc2) folder in the 3in1. Nothing was changed for Marvel in that directory, its the original soundtrack, so everything you need is in that directory.

i have, and it's the same as mvc2, 3rds, etc, i've replaced its music with HSF2 cps1 tunes...only thing you need to do is 1 extra step:
1.- make a cd image file of your SSF2X
2.- use IP Extractor from Megalexx ( http://members.lycos.co.uk/megalexxx/ )
3.- use this new ip.bin you just got for the selfbooting process
ps: see the vid please , can someone help on that one?
4.- you know what to do ;)
I am curios to know which method you use. I use the cdrecord method. Also, I want to know if you have to binhack the IP.BIN once you make it with IP Extractor and, if so, what LBA should it be set to? Or do you use a different program to make it selfboot? Like bin2boot or something similar. I follow Echelon's tutorial religiously and always use the cdrecord method. Works every time! Except with SSF2X  !

Are the 3 in 1's harder for the DC to read? I might make one if not.

Nah, data is data is data. With that much information on a disk, you don't have much room left over for a dummy file, so some games will load slightly faster by themselves, but there is nothing that would make it easier or harder on the DC.

They supposedly put more strain on the GD-ROM drive because it has to spin faster to read the games closer to the inside of the disk due to the missing dummy file.

They supposedly put more strain on the GD-ROM drive because it has to spin faster to read the games closer to the inside of the disk due to the missing dummy file.
From Wikipedia: "The optical drive in the Dreamcast works in CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) mode, which spins the disc at a constant speed regardless of the laser's position. "

From Wikipedia: "The optical drive in the Dreamcast works in CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) mode, which spins the disc at a constant speed regardless of the laser's position. "
From Wikipedia: "Since the Dreamcast works in CAV mode, occasionally, when there was space to spare on the CD-R, Dreamcast game pirates would fill the disk image on which the game was distibuted with empty space at the beginning, so the disk image size would be about 700 MB. Therefore, when burned, the data would be pushed further outward on the disc, mimicking the layout of an actual GD-ROM. This practice is called 'dummying.' They do this because CD-Rs are written in CLV mode, and the Dreamcast will not read data from them very fast if the data is close to the inner edge. Therefore, the data should, optimally, be as close to the outer edge of the disk as possible, for the fastest loading times. Some pirated games do not have this trait, presumably because they need the empty space, and therefore have longer loading times and choppy music and video (because the data cannot be loaded fast enough)." :pleased:

Anybody have a quick / easy way to loop the sound files? Evidently I've just been corrupting them when I loop them, which is sad. Right now I've been doing two pass encoding - encode once to figure out the framecount, and then a second encode using that specified frame for the loop. This seems inefficient, but I may be missing something.

Not sure what you're using, but I use adxencd.exe and pretty much do what you described. It's fairly quick. I also use Wave Splitter 2.0 (free) to cut the wav up so it's not so distracting when the track loops.
I was wondering if it's even possible to have the beginning of a track and then have it loop starting at 30 secs in or something like that. Don't know if it can even work like this...
snip
Maybe try using an ip.bin that you can dl rather than making one (?). Not sure. Good luck.

Any clue what im doing wrong?
Im customizing the mvc2 music for ps2.
As per a tutorial it said use 32000hz and 16bit audio, which seemed odd
because the default ones were higher quality. But nontheless I did everything, I rebuilt it. it loads up, once music plays it freezes.
If i spam buttons hard i can get to the char select screen, which then freezes.
I dont hear any music, just once it should be beginning, freez0rama

I guess you would either use GoldWave or some comparable program (maybe your Wave Splitter does it) to "snip" the song and then loop the desired part as usual.

actually you can do it with adxencd. just need to find the -lps value that corresponds with the part of the song you want to start looping. not sure off the top of my head how to do this, but in theory it would work just fine.

I have made a simple batch file that loops the song for you and then renames it from the .adx extension to the .bin extension. I would first do the first encode and test out the songs to make sure they work. Use the adx plugin for winamp or cinepak(cant get it to work) to test out the songs. But if you loop them, they will not work with the adx plugin for winamp, so dont think the song is corrupt if you try to test a looped song with it.
Here's a link to the batch file that will automatically loop and rename all your songs:
http://dhost.info/combomasher/loop-rename.txt
To use it just type in the framecount you got for each song you want looped right after the -lpe with no spaces between. Type in the framecount for every song you want looped then save the document. Once its saved, change the file extension from .txt to .bat , when you have changed the extension to .bat just double click on the file and let it run. It must be in the same folder as the adxencd program. Hope that helps.
Is there anyone who could help me make a silent Super Turbo (I don't want any music in the game), starting from a self-boot copy? I did this no problem with a non-self boot copy of MvC2, but for some reason I can't get it to work with self boot ST. Turns out to be a coaster every time...

Okay, here is a challenging request. If anyone here has done it, I would like some details if possible. I want to make a custom Triple Threat game. 'Triple Threat' is what I hear everyone call it, but it's that disc with MvC2, CvS2, and 3S all on the same disc for the DC. I have a copy and was wondering if the process is the same pretty much but 3 different times. There is an option to have the BG music from one game played on the other, mixed, and vice versa. Has it been done and will it affect that music bg option any? Thanks

Triple Threat, eh? hehe. The name it was released under was TDC Final (TDC is the initials I put into arcade high scores. Short for Toodles D. Clown).
If the games by themselves are small enough, it's easy to put them all into a single disc with a menu to select the game to play. You can find all of the information I had to work with in this thread: http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?p=224669
It should be pretty quick to see that 3s, MvC2, and CvS2 all together are a bit more the 700MB's. The technique I used to squeeze 3S down to size is called linking; there are three BGM files for each stage, so I picked the one out of the three I liked, got rid o the other two, and linked them, so that three files would be there, but they all pointed to the same blocks on the cd, and the space taken up on the cd was only of the one file. The same techique was used a bunch of times more to make the game instances with different BGM; every single file for those games with different soundtracks was actually not there, just linked to the original game files and linked the music to whatever soundtrack. If you open up that disk in Explorer, select everything in the root directory of the cd, and hit properties, it will show omething like 2.6 GIGs worth of files, far too much to fit on a cd. It does that because each game is linked like 4 times.
The thing is though, that I don't have a clue how to do this linking in Windows. I used linux to create the master ISO and burn it to a cd, and then imaged the cd with DiskJuggler to make the .CDI file that was released.
In linux, use the 'ln' command to make the hard link (not a symlink) you need, and 'mkisofs' automatically keeps the link when making the ISO. That's it. But again, I don't have a clue how to do this in Windows.
So, putting multiple games on a cd? Sure, easy to do (relatively), assuming they all fit on a cd, and everything you need to know is in that thread. Optional different BGM? Doable, but requires linux as far as I can tell. There's no reason it can't be done in windows, I just have no clue how.

I keep ending up with a .cdi that's around 350MB. When I copy all the data, it's off what is said to be selfboot (mdf+mds) and it has many files including all the ADX sounds ones. Am I messing something up or would it be ok to burn the small .cdi? Am I copy data off a non-selfboot? I also tried with the version I use on my DC and I don't use a boot disc. I'm not even deleting the large 0.bin file when I copy my data cause I don't see one :-\ what am i doing wrong?

Sounds like you need to make a properly sized "dummy" file. I'm not that great at making them, but that's my guess. Re-check the instructions on that part. Also, anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
And it's pretty cool to find out who the creator of the "Triple Threat" was; I tip my hat to you, sir.

350MB sounds like the right size for third strike, and a little large for CvS2 or MvC2. Its fine, go ahead and burn it and try it. Ignore the size. Once you can self-boot reliably, then you can worry about putting in a dummy file later. You may not need to anyway, depending on the game, only if music 'stuttering' is a problem. It may load a little faster, but I've never really noticed much of a difference.

SSF2X has some strange copy protection stuff in it that I don't think anyone has really looked into since it was released as an .CDI originally back in the day. Just about anyone who re-packages it ends up with a coaster. I seem to remember that you have to be careful and NOT use any binhack tools on the executable, you have to use the same LBA has the original release, and it would probably be best to manually extract the IP.BIN from the first sectors of the data session. Just repackaging it like you would most other games will result in a coaster.
When I get some time, I'll look into it. Can you make the empty .adx files, zip them up, and PM me a link to them or send them to toodlesdc at gmail. I have the rebuilding tools someone on my PC, but don't remember if I have the adx converter stuff. I make no promises that I'll ever actually get it done though.

My bad and terribly sorry, but I when I meant I wanted to make a custom triple threat game I was talking about the existing triple threat game (that I already own) and having customized music instead of the Capcom bgm tracks. I was assuming the steps were the same as it were ONE game, but there would be (3)? directories for bgm and was thinking, hell, I can just replace those adx files with my own custom adx (bgm) files and as long as the disc doesn't exeed the disc size.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I remember someone telling me something about a program that randomized songs. So, if you can get 3 songs to play in one stage and have them randomized then the game will most likely play different ones.
I never found the program that did that so I can't help anyone :bluu:.

I dont know what you mean by the caves, but the answer is maybe. If the game was setup to have different tracks for the same stage, then you can use whatever track for any of those. The only ones like this that come to mind is the abyss stage in MVC2, and any of the 3S stages (there are three track files for each stage,I assume for each round)
As for randomizing songs, uh, actually it CAN be done, but damn would it be some work. You'd have to use the linking technique to get fifty bazilion different copies of the same game with the tracks in different orders, so the DC thinks there are just fifty bazilion games on the disk, have the disc boot up to a browser, and use javascript or some other trickery to come up with a random number out of the fifty bazilion to play. The songs would be in that order until the DC rebooted, but each boot up would choose a random playlist. You'd probably run out of usable inodes on a cd though (in english, every possible combination of tracks would not be possible, but a hundred or so should be doable.) Plus youd never get enough people to agree on what tracks should be in the mix, or the game to do it with....too much effort and not enough reward.
EDIT: DOH! The caves stage from MvC2, because theres a light and dark version of each stage. just got it. No. Those use the same track file for the light and dark version of each stage, except for abyss's stage.

NKI, you got gmail.
Did you know the SSF2X, without the music, is only 25 megs zipped? If it wasnt for the damn copy protection crap it has going on, i could totally add it to TDC Final to make it a 4in1. I may still look into it, but make no promises
At any rate, how to change da tunez:
Rule #1: Do not modify any of the executable files! This includes using BINHACK on the 1st_read.bin. Just don't do it. Ditto for the ip.bin. Extract it from the disk using a tool like IP Extractor (from http://members.lycos.co.uk/megalexxx/ Note to mods: not warez!)
1. Extract the IP.BIN from the disc or image. Many ways to do this. The way I did it was to use cdirip on the original .cdi image, then use the dd command to pull out the first 32k of the iso ( dd if=TData02.iso of=ip.bin bs=2048 count=16) but if that IP Extractor works for you, have a ball.
2. Copy all of the files from the disc or image to some directory on your hard drive. Make sure all the sub directories and crap gets copied over as well.
3. Replace the .ADX files with the music you want. File names should be self explanatory.
4. Create a new .iso from the directory. I used mkisofs, which is the same thing I'd use in windows (command line tool. Yes, Im a command line geek. No, I don't know for sure how to do it with a windowed GUI program.) Command:
mkisofs -V TOODLESROX -l -C 0,11700 -o tmp.iso DIRECTORY_NAME/
Yes, you can put something other than TOODLESROX in for the volume name. NO YOU CANNOT USE ANY VALUE OTHER THAN 0,11700! (very important). Now you have an ISO, but its not quite ready yet.
5. Now we need to insert in the ip.bin. Any of the tools at http://dev.dcemulation.com/devtools-ipdisktools.htm aught to work. I did mine by hand [ (cat ip.bin ; dd if=tmp.iso bs=2048 skip=16)>newiso.iso ]
6. Now we need to burn 300 sectors worth of audio to your cdr, so that 'cdrecord -msinfo' tells you '0,11700'. This is slightly tricky, maybe. If you are lucky, use a tool to pull out the three second audio track from your original cd, or use the .wav file that 'cdirip' created. This is easiest, and it is recommended that you use CDR-WIN to burn that. You cannot use cdrecord to burn the 300 sector file, because it will be padded with 2 sectors to 302, and fuck everything up. If you want to use cdrecord, which I recommend you do, you actually have to do a little workaround:
a: You need a hacked cdrecord that will allow you to burn a 298 sector audio file, which it normally won't let you. Hacked versions of cdrecord for just this purpose can be gotten at http://cdirip.cjb.net/ (again, NOT WAREZ. cdrecord and mkisofs and most else there is GPL'd).
b: You need a file that is 298 audio sectors, or exactly 700896 bytes in size. It doesnt matter what it is, even all zeros is cool, but it has to be exactly that size.
c: Use the hacked cdrecord to burn that audio to a new cdr: cdrecord -dev=0,0,0 -multi -audio audiofile.raw
7. Use cdrecord to verify the LBA of the disc. the command is 'cdrecord -dev=0,0,0 -msinfo' (change the dev number to whatever matches your system). If it returns anything other that 0,11700, then something bjorked and you need to fix it. Its a coaster for our purposes.
8. Burn the iso on that disc. 'cdrecord -dev=0,0,0 -multi -xa1 newiso.iso'

AFAIK, the only release of SSF2X was the echelon .cdi, which is self boot. I think trying to make it anything other than self boot will break it. Those instructions were written specifically with SSF2X in mind; there are plenty of guides for doing this kind of thing for cvs2, mvc2 and 3s all over this thread. I'm not sure what you mean by hacking the ip.bin. The ip.bin is just the first 32k of the last data session on the disk. For most games, they are interchangable; just about any will work. For SSF2X, its much more picky, so you want to extract the exact same one used in the self boot copy. There's no need to modify it.
As for linux, version doesn't matter from any point I've seen, and most distros already have mkisofs and cdrecord in them. Just as long as your burner is supported by cdrecord, you should be fine.

If you want the same song to play through one, begining to end, for all three rounds without starting over, no. Same song that starts over each round, sure, just copy three times with filenames that match the three original track names.

I have one question about attempting to change the music in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike on PS2 (JPN version). I noticed that after the initial adx files for each of the rounds (in both Original and Arrange music modes), that there are a bunch of adx files following them basically breaking the song apart into smaller files.
Does anyone know how these are used? Do I have to edit them along with the full song ADX files, or can I just leave them alone and just inject my own songs into the intial song files?

If you are putting the music from marvel into SF3, then all you gotta do is just rename the .bin to .adx. Because the .bin music files in marvel are actually just .adx files, but they are renamed before the game is burned.

soo... I did the whole process using your tutorial using the cdi path. Do I halfto worry about the image file and junk when I burn it on nero?(i converted it to an nrg format)
& ty this was hella easy.
just a few notes that should be thrown in
-keep the wave files in the adxencd folder when converting adx files to bin(i moved my wav files to another folder, then converted, and all the adx files dissappeared...)
-the "adx_here" file I had to convert manually into adx format(from wav format). no biggie since all that was given.
- there was no links&keys file in the zip I downloaded, so I had to search the internet (inevitably getting popups >.<)...
-It took me a good 10 minutes fooling around w/ the selfboot.exe(which is titled bin2boot in the tutorial) to realize I had to get that little box to open, and then drop the .bin file in(not drop the bin file directly onto the selfboot.exe file)
that is all... take this constructively. I'm fully appreciative of this guide... I think it should go on the wiki...lol. I'll burn the cd and hopefully it comes out good when I try it this weekend.

I'd suggest buring the .cdi file with Alcohol 120. Whenever I tried the cdi2nero, just made coasters for me.

I must be lucky too, b/c the cd worked w/out fail ^_^;;;;

now I just need to get all the spyware crap I got while looking for those damn serial #'s
AlucarDudley

Just re-do it. Using a known-good ip.bin from MvC2 will work just fine, and if you've done it before, then you know you're just missing a step. There is really no difference at all between changing the music in cvs2 vs mvc2, except the file names of the music files. I'm betting the 1st_read.bin and ip.bin files were not BINHACK'ed properly.

What I wanna know is:
Will the CPS1/Arrange ADXes from Hyper SF2 work with SSF2X without messing with them?
If they won't loop properly (try playing a HSF2 ADX in CinePack, and it won't), I wanna know beforehand.
I'm sure I'll have to trim the dummy, as HSF2's are all 48000Hz, while SSF2X uses 44100...
This is the second place I've posted this, but that thread had a second question, and that track took over.
Edit:
Since I saw some questions being asked about looping files for ADX, and I can offer my 'expertise'...
For starters, you'll want (and this probably came with your sound card, if you still have the CD) a program called WaveLab Lite. This will allow you to PREVIEW your loops, so you don't have to go blind or go 0-end.
Then, when you have the WAV you want to convert, open it up, and play it once or twice. Find out WHERE you want the song to repeat from (and to), and select it.
Ther should be a button that says 'loop selection'. Use it to test your loop, and tweak it if necessary. When you have it where you want it (I'm a stickler for accuracy, but it's your mix, do what you like), zoom ALL the way in on the lower view, right-click and choose Go To -> Selection Start, write down the number, and then 'Go To -> Selection Ed' (again, write it down).
When you're done with that, throw those numbers into adxencd for the -lps and -lpe parameters. Test in CinePack or WinAmp.
I have images showing an example, but no place to host them. When I find someplace, I'll post 'em.

Cinepack has never worked for me and so i never use it to test out my ADX files. I always use a ADX plugin for winamp that will play my ADX files for me, but the plugin cant play songs that have been looped. So if you decide to try that plugin dont get pissed if your looped songs dont play. But I cant honestly say if the ADX files from a CPS1 game are any different than ones from a Dreamcast game. So you will just have to download that plugin and see if the songs play, which they should as long as the songs ARENT looped.
Link to ADX plugin - ADX Plugin (http://www.megagames.com/dc/files/in_adx.zip) . Just place this into the plugin folder of your winamp directory.

Is there a way to use different music for the stage variations? like a song for each version of the caves?
The caves stage from MvC2, because theres a light and dark version of each stage. just got it. No. Those use the same track file for the light and dark version of each stage, except for abyss's stage.

it's strange that my CvS2 backup doesn't have a IP.BIN and works fine. Is it really needed to make one with musics changed?
Toodles
05-15-2006, 07:46 AM
Cm, hope you don't mind posting the PM in the thread, but it seems you're not the only person that's confused.
IP.BIN is the name of the boot sector on a bootable DC game. It is the first 32k of the last data session on the disc. (I believe ,since the ones I make are all one session of audio and one session of data. I'm not 100% sure which session is goes onto on data/data multisession discs.) When DC warez first started being release, before self-booting, most of the ripping groups took a snapshot of those first boot sectors and included it in the game release as a file called IP.BIN. You could browse the disc and see the file called IP.BIN, but it didn't do anything.
On a selfboot disc, you can look, but there won't be a file called IP.BIN. In order to make it selfboot, they put that 'boot sector' back into the proper sectors on the last data track. In the Echelon selfboot toolkit, this was done with the IPINSERT step (or was it IPINS.EXE? I dont recall). This put the 32k of data in the IP.BIN into the .ISO file directly, not as a file, but as raw .ISO data in the header. The Echelon instructions were pretty specific to NOT leave the IP.BIN as a file on the disc.
For Katana developed games, which is by far most of them, the IP.BIN is completely interchangable. Grab the one you have for MvC2, and itll work for 3S or CVS2 just peachy, and visa versa.
So, to answer the questions directly:
it's strange that my CvS2 backup doesn't have a IP.BIN and works fine. Is it really needed to make one with musics changed?
Yes. When you copy the files to your system to make the new .ISO, you'll need to insert the IP.BIN into the new .ISO you created or it won't boot. If you are doing non-selfboots, then kick yourself hard, be a man, and make some selfboots. But an IP.BIN wont be needed for non-selfboots.
Hey, someone in my thread brought up a good point. (1) Why doesnt cvs2 have an IP.bin when the files are extracted but still work? (2) Is the ip.bin embedded in the 1st_read? (3) And would this make a difference in making a selfboot copy of cvs2?
I've only managed to make a few working selfboot copies of cvs2, I havent figured out why I cant make them work every time like mvc2. Any insight wouldbe great, thanks again!
1. Because on a self-boot game, it isn't a file; its embedded directly into the .ISO, and a tool like IP Extractor has to be used to pull it out, Or just grab another one from another game.
2. Nope, embedded into the .ISO.
3. An IP.BIN is needed to make a selfboot by hand. If you can't find one, grab one from one of the other big three fighters. Then follow the steps in the Echelon selfboot tutorial like normal (BINHACK, IPINS, etc)

I know I am EXTREMELY late, but I just successfully made a custom MvC2 after several coasters. I just wanted to post some details about my experience that may or may not help people like me who are just now doing this, if any.
Combomasher's instructions as far as using CDRWIN/DISCJUGS are spot on. However, I did have a problem with one aspect in the tutorial, which is to extract data from a selfboot copy of MvC2. I tried and failed several times using data from another selfboot custom MvC2 a friend made for me. I even tried doing the Echelon method but I think the thing that messed me up on that front was that CDRWIN was not compatible with my CD-RW drive. However, Toodles informed me that I could just use CDRECORD.EXE instead, but for some reason, that was not compatible with my CD-RW also. I could create the iso and everything fine, but I just couldn't burn anything.
Anyway, another friend of mine had a NON selfboot copy of MvC2, also a custom mix. I said fuck it, and tried making one out of the data from that copy using the DiscJugs method and IT WORKED PERFECTLY!
I would like to mention now that I did in fact read through this whole thread and some of the things I am about to mention may have been discussed already and I just forgot so I apologize if that is the case.
So now, minor things I noticed:
Don't know if this will make any sense, but the NON selfboot copy of MvC2 that I extracted data from that worked for me was a Utopia version, or at least needed a Utopia version boot disk.
Differences in data files between selfboot and NON selfboot copies of MvC2:
Selfboot: My selfboot copy contained six file folders that contained various files that I think are unnecessary. These file folders were NOT in the NON selfboot copy. The selfboot copy had a dummy.bin file, also not present on the NON selfboot copy. One last file on the selfboot copy that was NOT on the NON selfboot is a file called 0000KAL_MVCU.bin .
Non Selfboot: There were only two files that the NON selfboot had that the selfboot didn't, which are the IP.bin file and a file called ARCHIVE.RAR .
Apart from the aforementioned files, both copies share the same 720 other files. I have no clue of the significance if any of the files that I mentioned besides the IP.Bin .
To use the CDRWIN/DISCJUG method, the data extracted MUST contain an IP.bin, otherwise one would not be able to use bin2boot.
Now, I know it was mentioned that IP.bin files are interchangeable between different games. For the first six times I attempted making a custom MvC2 I was working with data without an IP.bin file and I was pretty much just burning a bunch of useless isos and bin files trying to get lucky. If I read right, someone on this thread mentioned that they created an image file, did NOT use bin2boot, and just burned the image and it worked. I tried that and it didn't work. However, on the 7th try I remembered that it was mentioned that one could use any IP.bin. Then I remembered that there is an IP.bin file that is included on the selfboot.zip on Combomasher's site. So with nothing to lose but a disc and time, I said fuck it, and threw that IP.bin into the data and made the image. Image was created, cool. I threw that image into bin2boot. Selfboot cdi image created, cool. Threw that cdi into DiscJugs, image is burning, YES, I could taste it! Disc was successfully created, ohh shit! Threw that disc into DC, and...sunk kerplunk, did not work. Why did it not work? I wish I knew.
The only conclusion that I could make from the extent of my knowledge is that to use CDRWIN/B2B/DiscJugs method of making customs, do NOT use data from a selfboot copy of the game.
Sorry for this extremely long post. If this post is deemed redundant and/or just not considered to contain anything worthwhile, expect it to accordingly vanish like a fart in the wind.

Crap, when i run cdrwin, the program crashes at the end but the image is still created.
I forgot to mention that CDRWIN does the same thing on my computer, and at first I thought it was just making corrupted or incomplete iso images, but that is not true. Although it crashes everytime, that image is good to go.
