Only modify the A setting for the first box (overall character alpha-blend) of the palette. Don't modify them on any other box. That's about it as far as I'm aware.

Transparent/ghost lunch rush... :lol:

I generally have tried tracking all the "special" basic character edits required at the bottom of this page (http://zachd.com/mvc2/colors), but if you're going to get all fancy and try to edit specials/etc, you'll probably have to brute force it. =\

P.S. I'm getting a general idea of which palettes effect what for certain characters...but there are some w/ palettes that are too similar *cough*Cable*cough*. Jus' sucks that all of Iceman's icebeams are affected by one palette :lame: :wtf:.

This is in regard to the colors...

I need to find out which default colors for the frequently used chars that are considered 'respect colors' so I don't replace them...the ones I have so far are:

Magneto LK Blue
Storm LK Gold
Sentinel HK Stealth

I'll most likely move the 'respect colors' to the A1 slot since I'm working on top tier player-specific color palettes for their specified teams in the other slots besides A2...

Anyone who's able to recommend some palettes for me would be greatly appreciated ...but I'm only doing top tiers and several mid tiers (OR, Venom, Morrigan) for now...

Re-clarifying Storm edits, but not dealing with Hail, etc:
So, for each color you want to edit for Storm:
LP: edit Extras 19-1b
LK: edit Extras 1c-1e
HP: edit Extras 1f-21
HK: edit Extras 22-24
A1: edit Extras 25-27
A2: edit Extras 28-2a

Probably want to just add +6 luminance each time.

hmm I'm not a pro but I think I can help you out.

When you burn the .raw first, it allows you to get the msinfo value afterwards. That msinfo value comes in two forms, 11702 and 11700. That # is then added to different parts of the entire process before you come to the point where you have to create the ISO so its essential that you do that first. If you try to guess the msinfo value, you could fuck up the entire process and just end up frustrating yourself.

Follow the directions :rock: they're there for a reason.

so is it just for the msinfo? because I've done it plenty of times before and it's always been 0,11702....so technically THAT is the msinfo and I don't have to do the whole audio.raw process again?

also I get a lot of problems...when I even do the shit right!!! lol I've finally been able to create a few burns of it...but there's still random problems...like whenever I try to burn the audio or the iso, it just doesn't work...and I have to close cmd and try again, sometimes more than once.

also, near the last steps, when you type in "mkisofs -C msinfo -V custommvc2 -l -o data.iso data" when creating the ISO...what is "custommvc2" and does it have to stay saying that or can I rename it?

because I tried making an iso and I put "mkisofs -C 0,11702 -V PsynalAudition -l -o PsynalAudition.iso PsynalAudition" and of course it didn't work.

Everything listed in a guide follows a process, you can't randomly change something and expect it to work. Save your previews as PNG, not JPEG! It took me a while to realize why everything looked really bad. JPEG will make the previews look horrible. PNG is your friend. :tup:

I like how everybody is going for a Stealth Iron Man. It'll be interesting to see which one looks best.
Green Sabretooth looks hilarious.
A2(?) Omega Red looks hideous. A1 "J-Pop" Omega Red looks awesome.
I've just made all my Juggernauts black now. He strangely looks really good black.
I love the pink Ken.
I love blue Amingo. Pea Green Soup (HK) Amingo is also hilarious.
I really like all the Hulks except for HK. Blue and red Hulk are particularly great. :tup:

It's really hard to look at all of them due to how badly JPEG has mangled the images. :sad:

P.S. fobi0, I got a lot of those same colors, or ones that are real similar :bgrin::lol;. But from quick glance, they look good. A couple seem a bit dark, but I'll look again when I have more time. Oh, and I agree w/ what Preppy said about PNG. JPEG's look like their color "bleeds" out, PNG's lines/colors stay crisp.

png relies on exact indexed colours system, while jpeg fucks off colours index and adds noise-the more compressed, the more noise you'll create in the image, even in high quality settings, you won't notice it, but it's there. You won't notice it opening your image in an image editing prog like photoshop, but if you open it with a quick preview prog like the default one in win (or if you ever try to print), you'll go all wtf, omfg, etc...
You need to redo the captures, since the jpeg images are already screwed.:xeye:

Oh no man, I wasn't accusing you or anything. And to tell you the truth, unless leaked, the only ones here who have seen my latest stuff are Preppy, eidrian, and doc.

So yeah, I was jus' pointing it out...and like I said to doc, 'cuz we had the same ideas too (he actually did'em first though, since he had to explain to me how to do it), "I guess we geniuses do think alike." :razz: :wink:.

Seems like you've found a way to test 'what's not there' yet. So i'll go and applaud you for that. :clap:. Now, can you find the palette glitches on the characters after doing certain things? =P

The How-to guide is a pain in the ass to complete, despite finding an easy way to edit Shuma and proper instructions to edit Colossus, but it's coming out pretty good. Christmas might come early this year. As for a new PalMod, Buu is MIA, so i haven't talked to him about this. I really REAAALLLLY want Tron (girl) preview support. =(

I think Spiral's 09-2A palettes is her Metamorphosis super.

Problem is there are 32 out of 34 edit-able palettes, and her super hits 26/27 times only. Which leads me to believe, there are some transformations that don't hit, or just extra palettes.

I'm currently trying to figure out who is who in the palettes. Shame her super doesn't automatically use the edited character's LP color.

I just recently edited my (LP) Magento color in PALMOD. Should I copy and paste the new color unto { 01 LP (Extra-02) - 07 LP (Extra-07) } also or should I just leave the extra color alone.

any suggestion would be helpful

I dunno if this is late or not since i'm too lazy to go through this entire thread, but has anyone discovered how to edit fireball colors? I think I might have pinpointed the psy blast color schemes

01 LP(Extra-02) Psy Blast for lp psy
01 LK(Extra-0A) Psy Blast lk psy
01 HP(Extra-12) Psy Blast hp psy
01 HK (Extra-1A) Psy Blast hk psy
01 A1 (Extra-22) Psy Blast a1 psy
01 A2 (Extra -2A) Psy Blast a2 psy

again, this is only a hunch since I'm still learning how to burn my own marvel copy. But it really does look like these colors correspond to Psylocke's fireball colors. if someone could test this out, it would be greatly appreciated.

edit: i think I'll go make me some red Hadokens for ryu and blue optic blasts for cyke...

well i used fraps to capture a video of the super in action... then i just ran it in power dvd and ran it very slow. it took me about 10 min all together to get it all done

loading up nulldc and selecting chars - 2min
capturing the super - 2min
opening movie file in powerdvd - 1min
documenting the super frame by frame - 5 - 6min

Is there anything specific I have to do to get my nullDC to not run like ass? Sound is crackling and disgusting, and the characters have these little lines on them. I really doubt it's my comp, as I'm pretty sure a GeForce 8800 GTX can handle a fucking DC emu, so it has to be an off setting. Any ideas?

Uh, my nullDC runs ok off my old ass GeForce FX 5500. So can't help you with the lines and why or how it's doing that.

As for the sound, mine does the Rice Crispies; snap, crackle, and pop.

If anything, it might be the RAM.

4 GB of DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) running at 1033 Mhz. :wasted:

In the past when I made selfboot copies I had no problem...now when I attempt to type in cd/selfboot on the dos prompt screen it comes out with the following:

invalid switch - selfboot

what am i doing wrong here...?

Also this is for Geronimo...what was the custom ST that you made for the ohio seasons beatings tourney...just interested...especially for the desert and pirate ship stages...

DOS uses backslashes. Unix uses forward slashes. Don't mix and match.

Stick with the backslashes, obviously.
Are you in your c: drive when you do it? If the command prompt is in the D: drive, it won't do it because there is no D:\selfboot directory.

and there is a 1.6 beta out
quite a few changes
maybe try that one

i havent been able to try it out on my comp... you know the problem

oh and i think that surge might have fried my CPU too
damn this sucks
i might just break down and buy a dell or HP, my friend got a decent one for 700
but damn my video card i just got prob wont work in it
arg

oh well editing on the laptop it is =/
10 min compared to 1 min to completely build an image... shit

I'm on that beta 1.0 too, that could be it. I can help you with the edits if you want and build the image for you, but by the time I SS and resend it's prolly the same amount of time. Sucks about your PC, hit me up we'll see what we can do.

Well, after trying out nullDC 1.6.

I must say, it does run alot better than the 1.0 versions. Although it's no where as smooth/fast as a physical DC + game, it is playable.

Ok... here's the updated skinny on making your own Super Turbo custom soundtrack:


ANY ip.bin will work.
You can BINHACK your 1st_read.bin (this might be necessary to generate a usable ip.bin), but then you MUST:

Open 1st_read.bin in your hex editor of choice
Go to where it says 'CD001' and find your LBA (if it's 11702, look for 2E5A0000, and remember it)
CHANGE the 2E5A0000 to 6EB00000
Go to address 21D444. THIS is where the LBA information actually goes. If you need 11702, make this 2E5A0000.



Once you've done this, you can use the rest of the Echelon tutorial as you see fit. The only thing to worry about is taking space on the disk. If you know how to resize the dummy that comes in ST, you should be good to go.

Why do the BINHACK at all? If you have a translated version of ST (i.e. TDC Final v2), you have lots of ip.bins right there on the disc that will work perfect. Just figure out if you need a different LBA, hexedit the address, and be done. Theres no need to add the extra 2-3 steps.

Once you've done this, you can use the rest of the Echelon tutorial as you see fit. The only thing to worry about is taking space on the disk. If you know how to resize the dummy that comes in ST, you should be good to go.
A few notes for anyone who wants a standalone ST:
1. Grab the ADX's from the original Echelon release. Any ADX's on the TDC version have been scrunched down for size. Might as well use the originals for any you dont replace with your own music.
2. Translated ST is in the folder \TST\ on the TDC disc.
3. There are regular and arranged versions of music for each stange. For each version, there is the normal music and the 'tense' music when someone gets knocked below 25% life. If you use you're own music, be aware that the 'tense' music will interupt the original music at any point.
4. There is a folder on the disc with some rough notes about what each adx is for. Mostly a best guess, some info may be off, but its a good starting point.

Well, when I -didn't- do the binhack, it coastered on me. Read ip.bin, but not 1st_read.bin (showed SEGA logo, but booted me to the main DC menu). After binhacking and changing the changed string, it worked. Why? Beats me. All I know is it worked like that.

Also, here's how the ADXes for ST are named:

- An A_ file is the 'near death' (also called 'pinch') music. For example: A_GOU_D6.ADX
- An E_ is an ending. See E_CHU_26.ADX
- S_ is Stage. The normal version. S_CAM_0E.ADX, for instance.
- Most of the others are self-explanitory, except for TOCYU. This is 'Here Comes A New challenger!!'. SEAT_C3.ADX is also a bit odd, being ST's character select.
- All files have their sound code at the end, with the leading 00 chopped.
- Character names are shortened to 3 letters using japanese names: RYU, HON, BLA, GUI, KEN, CHU, ZAN, DHA, BIS, BAR (remember the voice: 'Barlog wins!'), SAG, VEG, FEI, CAM, THA, DEE and GOU. The one exception is T.Hawk's ending. There, it's TEE.
- There is also a NET.ADX, but you'll probably never hear it played. My guess is it's for the Matching Service, when waiting for a game.

But why you'd want to even THINK about mucking about with the godliness that is the Super Turbo palettes... well, that's something I just can't understand.

If so, I don't know...I ran into that issue before when I had 2 PalMods running at the same time, so I just closed and reopened and it worked fine. :confused:

You can upload the PL**_DAT.bin file for the specific character and then they just have to save over it. The ** is the number next to the characters name in PalMod.

Ex: PL05_DAT.bin would be strider, so send them that file to override into their data folder and presto, they now have your colors. :wgrin:

Where is the "dummy file" placed on the cd when making custom Mvc2

is it at the beginning of the disc?
at the end?
or somewhere in the middle?

ideally you want it in the beginning i assume as you want the actual data on the outer edge of the cd. I have to ask this because for the longest time a buddy of mines who is in the works of his own Mvc2 buring program, said if you name the dummy file to "!!!" it should be place before all the rest of the data in the marvel data folder. he menitoned if you name it "dummy" your actual dummy file may be in the middle (worst possible place) as you will have data before it and after it making the DC n DC laser work way harder. later he mentioned maybe labelling the "dummy file" to "000dummy" as another option.

anways i would like some input on this, what program(s) to use to test it and if anybody has actually tested where the dummy file is really placed. oh yeah also if there any sort file system setup when making the custom mvc2

The DC reads discs from the outside in. The dummy should always be burned first, followed by everything else. At least, that is how I remember it. Not sure how DC iso does it.

I appreciate your tenacity, but just use ALT+PRINTSCREEN and then paste the result into MSPaint and *save as PNG*. Do not save as JPEG, it'll dither the colors.

It's hard to tell me what they look like at 1x. I like pictures at 2x - even though they will look more like the 1x characters onscreen, 2x shows the detail better. =)
ones I don't like: black/blue Iron Man and Doom looks too dark. black skin/red shorts Hulk looks too dark. red/black Cyke looks a little too dull.

I think the dark colors are really hard to edit - some of those look pretty good. It'll be most interesting to you to see them on the TV screen anyways. White and black seem to look a lot different on the TV monitor. =\

As regards using the color scheme over everybody, hey, that's what most everybody is doing anyways. It's nice to have the buttons synced up so that LP anybody is some certain color. =)

I'm having a problem with palmod. I can't use preview anymore. I can load directory and see colors to edit, but the preview button is not active.

I'm running on version 0.3. I did a google search and got this page:

It looks like there is a version 0.22 but it is corrupted when I open the .zip. Is this legit? Is there another place to d/l these?

yeah, ask doc i have done that with the entire cast
i color syched them all to my personal best colors

but anyway, yeah my laptop and my PC crashed, i have no access to my colors or anything luckily a certain someone got a copy before it crashed.
i had big plans and started on some big shit but its on hold till i get something else

thanks for the criticism preppy. yeah I actually agree with pretty much everything you said. the ironman and doom were both done in accordance to what a friend of mine wanted ( he purposely asked me to make them that dark. for what purpose i do not know haha ) but yeah im curious to see what they all look like during gameplay

hey, i've been having trouble with my dkz studio ever since i updated my computer w/ microsoft. everytime i try to convert my wav to adx the usual microsoft error popups everytime for ever track im trying to convert.

the screen goes something like this:

ADXENCD.exe has encountered a problem and needs to be closed. We are sorry for inconvenience. blahblahblahblah debug, send error report, or don't send.

now i've tried multiple ways to resolve this problem, i've tried reinstalling me the dkz studio that was in the selfboot files, didn't solve the problem, then i tried finding another adxencd.exe to replace the one in the dkz studio directory folder, still didn't solve the problem. then i went and found the newest dkz studio which was in spanish and i tried that and that seems to have failed too. I'm not sure if this is a problem for anyone else.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Also, be PRECISE about the crash. If you supply the DMP file from the crash (you should get at that if you click DEBUG), I'll take a look.

i did mine the ghetto way and print screened the photos in preview mode then saved them all to a photoshop file then uploaded to imageshack. you can just copy the code and save them in wordpad and put what button each code is for.


the proton cannon edits are fucking sick.

for cable its XX 01 (Extra-02) and XX 03 (extra-04) "xx" is the button for your character (replace xx with like lp lk hp hk....) edit those and you can edit the colors for the spear, beam, gun, and gernade

if you need the extra help let me know i can specify the ID: numbers for you

and what ever you wanna edit with other characters colors let me know cuz i listed everything on my excel to the very detail of every templates took me 3 days but i did it

I try to do that in CoolEdit Pro, usually with mixed results. Let me know how that works for you. :wgrin:

I don't know about normalizing, but I have gotten some good results when I boost the audio volume by 25% 2x using Sound Recorder. Sometimes tracks will be a bit on the loud side, but that is much better than the tracks being low volume.

I have tried "eye balling" the volume before but I am a perfectionist and I hate mixes where the music just comes out way too loud. It sounds really stupid, just look at most tourney vids where they use custom mixes. It sounds like the speakers have been blown out.
