I for one, am that big a fan of colored moves. Hell, I don't even think tournaments should use custom marvel. Reason being, we have been playing the game for so long and then all of a sudden we see some crazy ass Cable grenade color and did not block. It is awesome, but seems like it would just throw people off, and confuse those who did not even know you could edit such things.

I lol'd when I read this...negative gold/black 'nades FTW...
The only thing I can say to this is when it comes to actual color edits come tournament time...either stick with OG Marvel colors or go 'monochrome' with the projectiles and shit (all one color basically, different shades ov that color are acceptable). Anything else...especially multicolored stuff...that would prove distracting...jest erf them! And this is as far as high caliber tourneys like EVO go...
...but then again...there will be those GDLK color edits that you jest can't leave out...or the marvel mixes (less Trance...more Metal)...

Evo used some custom mix for the finals, and then switched it during the finals which I thought was a good move.
My first mixes were pretty crazy, now they are much more basic.
Music wise, most of the mixes I hear in vids are random and sound like crap. I guess it is all a matter of taste. However, I stick witn instrumentals because vocals are distracting to me. I use some non-vocal trance, guilty gear tracks, or rap instrumentals. The music in the game should compliment the action, not try to overshadow it.

These are some of the colors I got so far. Let me know if something looks off. Critiquing is welcomed and appreciated by all.
Doc, how does that Iceman/Human Torch look? Did you edited all his ice, like the super, Big Giant Boulder/ Ice when he grabs you, etc..? Damn, I know he looks sweet. If we could change ICEBEAM!!! to FLAME OUT!!!, I'd actually play him (not against Cable, though)
General idea: Attack buttons will be assorted colors, but Match-up wherever possible. Example: Many characters will have the white/grey/black color scheme. That edit will always be LP. Red/Black edits will be at HK.
A1 will be any Marvel character they resemble (Psylocke as Elektra, with all her Psy attacks, supers a silverish grey color (Shurikens, etc). If they do not have a Marvel counterpart, I will try to make a edit of a costume they actually have worn. Black/yellow Colossus as Ultimate X-men costume.
A2 will be the DC counterpart (see above edits.)

you don't know how to do that? on my computer i hold voice activator and say "copy page." and it does it and automatically saves it as .png under my pictures folder. it's fucking awesome! :woot:

I swear I did an edit just like the first one.
I just started messing around with this stuff today, my first few attempts (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/tsdcs/DC/MvC2SRSDCMBH.jpg). I notice some of them look like stuff that's already been done (Geronimo putting in mad work!), but at this point that can't be helped.

Problem
Using a self boot copy of mvc2 (a cdi) i followed all the stops... burned it and the DC starts up and proceeds to sega screen and then restarts... wtf?
it's not the DC dying cause it plays my other backups fine.
could the cdi i got not be self boot?
Does the mvc2 in toodle's TDCfinal2 work as a base version?
Could it be a bad 1st_read.bin?

if everything went right your storm should now be Throwing fire when you push fierce punch or whenever you do lightning storm or typhoons. The only drawback is that the hail, lightning and the typhoons are shared for all the buttons. Also to get the complete effect that she is really throwing out fire you have to color the extras that correspond to the color each character turns when they get hit by lightning (or anything that makes them turn blue). This color is blue as we all know, so we have to make them turn orange just like if they were getting hit by a yoga flame. This extra is going to be almost the same number for all of them but i'm not sure. I only did it for the top tiers and their assists
Psylocke, cable, magneto, storm,commando color extra 50-51(again number outside of box) color them with

coloring the special moves for Magneto, cable, sentinel, cpt commando, is easy. Storm is the one that took me a while to know what each of the extras was for. hope i get credit for this if nobody else has done it before me, if somebody has, oh well lets move on then, next lets try to modify the sound effects and then the stages and then lets add new moves and then....................

Still needs some work. I'm not sure about the black/gold color scheme overall, and I could use more red in the repulsor blast (looks weird in motion) and ditto the light on WM if I can, need to change the smart bombs' color when they explode, etc. Also I need more orange in some of the beams, and c.FP/s.FP are too pink. But otherwise decent.

-Select the right pallate files (you may want to copy/paste 2 sets into different folders- one to mod, and one in case you want the OGs around for some reason)
-Start up PalMod and load them up (you can load them all at once so you can just scroll through
-Copy/paste them back into the mvc2 folder
-Do whatever you would normally do to play Marvel; in my case I stuff I mess around with the file and burn a new copy, since I don't have any Dreamcast emulators.

The Gold War Machine 2.0 is kool with the red proj.'s (I'd try to implement another color into those at some point to make them stand out even more) but I would stray away from Gold/Black color edits cause EVERYONE AND THEIR BROTHERS are using it...

I have an old 1962 version of MvC2 that requires a boot disc to play.
...is it possible to customize the songs and character colors on this disk?
I read about all the selfboot talk and I would like to avoid locating a new MvC2 iso/cdi file.
Does anyone have any great MvC2 edits they'd like to share on megaupload or a torrent? I'd like to try some great edits.
Any Sentinel/Devastator and Psylocke/Poison Ivy edits are hot shit! :D

I do want to make a note about Iceman's human form though. The muscle definition line for chest/torso are always black by default (and looks really bad). If you want it to look good, make it the same color as the rest of his costume, but darker.

PNG owns GIF but images with a large number of colors often turn to be compressed more efficiently with JPG.

That's not true. JPEG looks like crap when used for this purpose. It's not a preference, they're just being ignorant. Once you actually realize how awful JPEG is making the image (versus the fidelity of PNG), if someone ACTUALLY prefers JPEG, I'll eat my hat.
My "hat" is a chocolate chip cookie, but the point remains that anybody using JPEG here is doing it by accident or laziness.

When you say "People shall always have their preferences...so it's no point to steer them otherwise", that doesn't point out to them that saving as JPEG caused their colors to bleed all over the place and the image to look like absolute crap.
Allllll you have to do is initially Save As PNG instead. Voila. This could not be easier. :confused:

So, those of you who have figured out how to edit certain normals and projectiles, are any of you willing to share such knowledge? I know Doc and company will withhold such info until after evo, but know I there are some out there that have already figured out and posted such pallets.
More specifically, I am looking for some normal attacks such as sentinel, Magnus, and Iron Man. I think I got them, but if I can save 50+ blank cds it would be nice.

I tried to change him into more of a bronze/copper color, but it's still a work in progress. I'd like to change the color of the Smart Bombs when they explode, but overall it's pretty good. Or, at least, relative to most of my other edits.

I now need to switch my focus and work on populating an extra header (for full automation of supplement palettes). Me and Magnetro were discussing of a way in which you guys can help me out on this: Make a program that parses a text file that has the extra information and parse it in a c++ format.

Using bitwise operations to tweak RGB levels should be straight-forward-ish. I haven't really looked into the Saturation / Luminance math, but since the code already has math to apply that, imagine that could be borrowed for some magic new ApplySaturation( UINT16 uintARGBInput, WORD SaturationLevel ) function.

Sorry if this has been covered, but i'm not finding anything with search and i only remember this covered briefly here. I'm having a problem with one of my colors remaining transparent. Palmod refuses to accept any changes to my HP ryu's gi highlight color. It insists on leaving the alpha at 0 regardless of patching, applying, or using different pak files (I have the ps2 version). Is there a way to just hex edit that one color from the palette file, should i be reinstalling palmod, or am I missing something really obvious? Thanks in advance!

So I experimented with color edits and decided that I don't have the patience to do my own edits. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I took WAY too much time to do just one character... (*cough* Storm) ...then I remembered the problems about "extra palattes". That's when I decided to wait until a faster process is available.
...but I degress. Keep up the good work guy's!
I'll just be content with my custom soundtracks.

THey're in the PS2 folder archived in AFS02.AFS . You'll need to grab DKZ Studio to extract and and then import them back in. They're the PL**PAK.BIN files. You'll also need the japanese ps2 pak files to view in palmod. I dunno why they're the only ones that load initially, but you can then put them in the american ps2 or xbox version. (seriously can someone explain that? :) )

If anyone wants to help with the palmod updates they can get http://zachd.com/mvc2/pictures/MvC2/sprites/complete_sprite_sets.rar and look through the folders and pick out the images that are listed in Eidrian's document, then send them over to me or suupabuu to organize them and stuff. Since there are a ton of images for everyone it'd be much easier to get help from more than 2 people, hopefully you'll be able to see the extras that you're editing soon + if there are any programmers that are willing to help with features and stuff, let him know.

And those are way too many images to scan, the variants are just one image and are easy to identify, unless you want to add animated preview to the utility.... Which seems not like a bad idea at all.

I talked to magnetro last night, and I suggested him to rerip the extra images manually. Sorry if I didn't get to you guys earlier, but if you guys are doing it now, STOP! It will be too time consuming for each side to manually manipulate each index and creating an extension of palmod to do so.
The plan that I have now is set each extra with a dummy palette, grab the image and crop the extra (on training stage prefferably), and the programs that I have made will handle the processing of clearing out anything but what's on the palette. I've done it with the character images and it was a lot easier for me to handle other than the way that I have to handle the images in the rar.

For example: Say you make psylocke's 01 extra (butterflies?): (#10000FEDCFFEDFDEFFCDEFBCDFABCF9ABF89AF789F678F56 7F456F345F234F123) instead of (#10000F111FFFFFFDDFFACFF8BFF6AFF49FF28FF06FE06FD0 6FC05FA04F904F803) , when you go into the game and do the move (to screen cap it), you'll be helping b pyro a lot. SO: use that code on all the palette extras then screen cap it (png please) --> crop it so that there are no other artifacts using that palette and send it to bpyro or me. THe idea is: black pyro's program will not use anything that's not that code so it'll map everything out and save him countless hours of mapping extras to images. : )

They're absolutely useless and cannot be accessed in any way currently. They're simply additional sprites in Servbot's files that don't appear to be used or accessible in any fashion whatsoever. So: pretty cool, but pretty useless. :smile:

Highlight one ov the boxes in the palette box on the right hand side...each individual box represents a ID, starting from ID:00 and ending with ID:15 as far as usable palette parts are concerned...it says it under that same box if you look closely.

Another concept I was brainstorming: If you develop/have a great color for a character, copy it as a 4 box and a 5 box code. Most of the characters main color (hulk's skin, for example) are 5 boxes. His pants are 4. So, you would highlight the skin boxes, then paste this code:
(#&FC70FA70F850F640F530) Five Point, Golden Brown
Then, highlight the pants (4 boxes), and paste:
(#%FFB2FEA2FB82F850) Four Point, Gold
Viola! Brown Hulk with gold pants!
So, we can focus on the main color (5 boxes) and the secondary color (4 boxes).
I tend to focus on the color as opposed to the character, especially when I am developing matching teams.

First thing: i dont really care what color scheme you're doing, just as long as it looks like you put some work into it.
1st way:write the html code.
2nd way: take a screenshot like the one i have on my site (where you dont see the OS, just the bg and the sprite).
3rd way: just post the color code and i'll get to them eventually. i'm stockpiling the colors and will update the site when black pyro gives me a new version with some features I asked for. if you have extras you want me to post up I'll get to them when i get the new palmod from black pyro sometime.
finally if you have a copy of something that's on my site already: 1) it has to be way better for me to take the other one down. 2). I'm not gonna use it.

I am almost finished with new preview code. Gotta add support for extra's on top of the original img.
Also gonna add automatic extra processing.
For the last couple of months, I've been working a tiny bit here and there. I am off of work for at least a month for now.. so programming is pretty steady.

I am almost finished with new preview code. Gotta add support for extra's on top of the original img.
Also gonna add automatic extra processing.
For the last couple of months, I've been working a tiny bit here and there. I am off of work for at least a month for now.. so programming is pretty steady.
I've been peeking in the thread here and there and the colors you guys make are great.
Good to see suupabuu is still on the scene.
Got my mix working on the damned dreamcast and its probably the sexiest thing ive heard/played/seen in a few years.

It's about modifying the game in general, not just palettes. If you don't find what you want, just make one. It's pretty straightforward.

I was messing around with the Spiral edits this weekend and may have come up with a way ov editing the Meta X palettes for each button 'properly'...if anyone is interested LMK I'm still messing around with other options...

Well if you want your own colors then make your own, there's a whole tutorial on how to edit every character pallet.

I know. It just that some character are so hard to edit. Specialy storm. You know how stupid n hard is editing that bitch. I read everything release by Eidrian but i still dont really undestand it. Storm's patches are quite easy actually. You just do 3 straightforward copies to particular button color you want to do and then just increase the luminace (or not if you just wanna be lazy). Process takes 10 seconds.

Random thoughts after seeing hits and misses at Final Round:
* We need a program / tool to check audio levels. My own mix fails because the audio is too loud and drowns out the sound effects at times. This is a fairly common problem. The first mix on the left I could not even tell what the hell was going on half the time because I could not hear the effects at all. I got punished for being more attentive to the audio cues that just weren't there. =\
* Don't bring broken/buggy mixes to tournaments. Flashing Storm and buggy Sent drones are bad. Cyclop's kick being broken is kind of OK. Cyclops changing color all the time is bad.
* Custom special moves are OK if they blend. But the really big changes take away from the game if you're not used to playing on them.
I would strongly suggest that custom special colors be banned from tournaments.
I'm thinking it would be a good idea to have a "verify extras" check built into PalMod to make sure people don't have buggy Storms, Cyclops, etc. Buggy extras just make all of your hard work look bad. :sad:

yeah, when I made music mixes the tut. recommended increasing the volume, which was too loud. then when I just left the music as is for a second mix, it sounded allright, or mostly allright...

Well, if they can rip the voices and FX from the game you could play the sounds back at the volume they come out from the game and play the music you made in .bin file at the same time in some other audio player.

It probably would be ideal to get/verify the levels on the actual default game music files and then tailor any custom music to those levels. That would be the simplest solution. :smile:

Of course you could just go to the options in the game and turn down the music volume a couple points but leave the FX alone, if you made the music too loud... duh:looney:

The main issue is once a song is converted from a wav / mp3 to adx format which some Dreamcast / PS2 / and Gamecube games use for audio (Which Marvel VS Capcom uses) the volume is nerfed.
Say for example you take an MP3 of a song which has 100% volume, once decoded and re-encoded to ADX the volume for the file while you didn't change the encoding process itself reduces it by like 10 to 15% thus it's not nearly as loud as it used to be.
I did the same thing when I striped all of the music out of the Xbox version of Marvel VS Capcom 2 which they also use the exact same ADX files as well as naming as the Dreamcast version. And use adxencd.exe with my new / changed music to replace the entire soundtrack.
Most of the work involved required me to open up Audacity or another Wav editor program and increase the volume by like 20% before encoding the file to ADX because there is a loss of volume due to result. Same thing when I used ADX files for never ending looping tracks for Mugen, The same thing.

Even with attempts at normalization, everything wasn't exactly at the same levels, so the proffered solutions still wouldn't reach the "all songs perfectly leveled to existing game sound levels" solution really needed to have things rocking fully.
I have yet to hear a perfectly leveled Marvel mix. My kudos to those of you who have produced one. It would seem interesting to have something that could reliably take any given song and perfectly normalize it for Marvel.
EDIT: As regards "increasing the volume so much", you're ignoring the lack of precision available currently. "Increase volume by 15%" or so just doesn't give you precise/great results - the levels are uneven and certain stages play differently as a result. =\

Goldwave has a normalizing function. Unfortunately it isn't freeware.

Yeah preppy, no matter how much i raise the volume by on the Clocktower stage music file it always stays at a very low volume level :sad: any idea on why this happens?

I have actually used normalized mp3s, but the results are not that much better. This whole deal where people turn their tracks up 25% is retarded, and that is why there are so many mixes out there that come across terribly when filmed. I have gotten some of my tracks pretty close after a bunch of trial and error.

Well until a solution is set as to finalizing music tracks in marvel a temporary solution (albeit it'll cost you at least 2 CD-R's at minimum...depending on how precise the creator is) is to put the tracks/custom colors and burn a copy. Playtest EVERY changed aspect in your version (noting any glitched palettes and low volume tracks...yes, even the bass on certain tracks) and then fix all that on the
