Here is my tutorial on how to change the music and make your custom mvc2 selfboot. It goes through everything and has pictures and all the downloads. Hope this helps anyone who wants to have their own custom mvc2.

anyone else having that problem? I used tables, not frames, so no matter what way you stretch the screen you should be able to see everything without having things overlap.
t-kimura- Thank you. :D I hate doing instructions without pictures, so i though i would add some. Cause its always easier when you have a visual aid.

I already know how to do this but that is one excellent tutorial right there. I think a person has to be pretty clueless not to get it right following ur instructions. "Thumbs Up Soldier"

-edit- I forgot to put in my tutorial that you can use CDRwin to create the image file too.
I still can't get it to work even though I follow every instruction
Can it be because I start it off with somebody's eles custom mvc2 copy ?
if that's what's causing the problem, what's the right one to get

So the MvC2 disc you use as a source CAN'T be a legit copy? You have to have a copy of it? Cuz when I tried it with my mvc2 disc, it just showed 3 random text files. :(

cd-roms cant read gd-roms so no.. cant be legit.

Daemon tools is a program that fakes your cumputer into thinking that your MVC2 image file is actually in your CD-Rom drive. So instead of actually putting a mvc2 disc in your drive, this program lets you "Mount" the image file to a fake drive. When it does that, the standard window pop's up when a Cd has been inserted into a drive.
1)When you download Deamon tools, install it.
2)Then you should see alittle lightining bolt icon in the lower
3)right hand toolbar by the system clock.
4)right click on the lighting bolt icon and select virtual CD/ dvd rom drive.
5)then click on "mount image".
6) then search for your MVC2 image file and select it.
7) a "now loading" screen will come up for like 3 seconds and go away. Then the window will pop up asking what you want to open the contents of your drive.
8) then load up ISOBuster
9) select the new drive that Daemon tools mounted the image too.
Search for daemon tools on yahoo or google, they should have a tutorial too if mine is too confusing. Hope this helps.

Nice, here is some stuff that can help, usually when you convert your mp3 into a wav file the volume will be to low when you play MvC2. So you may want to think about that. Anyways you can also make really neat art for it, provding you can find the template, but I lost the file, however you can find it on Kazaa somewhere if you try. Uhh random other note, you don't need ISO buster, you can just drag and drop from windows explorer, and you can also use CinePak to read the adx/bin files, it reads them and does other things, also if you burn with nero (the selfboot image) and you need to go through the CDI2NERO program AND it wont work for you there is an option you go through on the CDI2NERO where it asks you to chose whether you want it to be a TAO, or DAO image, the default is DAO, so you may want to use DAO... Anyways that happens to people sometimes, probably because of their burner (?). Let's see I think I may have forgotten some other things, but, meh.

I got as far as the self boot step, but I got an error DOS saying, "IP.bin file not found. Would you like to make an IP.bin file?"
I say yes, and then it asks me what name I want to give it. I try 1st_read.bin (it says it is common) and then the DOS screen disappears....any answers to this?
I thought it was that I forgot to replace the 1st_read.bin file in the first few steps, but I did it again and to no avail...

/\ It's probably because you're using a selfboot of MvC2, you need a non-selfboot.

I did it with a selfboot copy. And for the pictures overlaping the text on the page, try loading the page using internet explorer if you are not already using it. Firefox was doing the same thing to me.

Is it possible to start this process with a US self booting copy or does it have to be either non self boot or a Japanese self booting copy first? I tried this so many times and got a ton of coasters. EVeryone told me it's because the disc I took the image from was self booting to begin with. Any insight?

I also did it with a selfboot copy. I had the same problem there too. When you're making the image I think you have to use "track-at-once" and not "disc-at-once". That's how I fixed my problem.
In the end, I lost 2 discs with no success. It just wouldn't boot up in the dreamcast (even with a bootdisc), I'd go to the music screen instead. The first burn I used discjuggler and second Nero.
Just for reference: the file "ADX_HERE" is the "Here Comes A New Challenger" tune. You had it marked with a question mark on the site.

Take the WAV into Sound Recorder. Go Effects>Increase Volume by 25%. Do that around 3 times, and it should be much better.

Wow my post is now a sticky. I will be updating it with some of the info you guys have provided and some other tools for the whole process incase some of the ones listed dont work.
p.s.- has anyone tried cdi2nero and burned there selfboot mvc2? if so did it work for you?
And has anyone tried making the image file with CDRwin nistead of nero? CDRwin is fucked up on my computer, it makes winrar files not image files, weird.

I always use CDRWIN to make my image files, and it works fine.

Should i try and spice the site up with a new design on the next update, or should i keep the simple layout?
Anyone know why my CDRWIN would be making Winrar files instead of Image files lol?
KingzJuster16-i am not sure if it works in Win98. As long as the programs that are in the tutorial are supported under Win98 i think it would work.

Here's how to make a batch file to convert all of your WAVs to ADX as I mentioned earlier:
1. Open notepad
2. type: adxencd "name.wav" (ie. ADX_MENU.WAV)
3. Do the same thing for all of the wavs you want to convert, but make sure there's a space in between each command like...
adxencd "ADX_MENU.WAV"
adxencd "ADX_S000.WAV"
etc.
4. When you're done, instead of saving it as a .txt file, save it as as converter.bat or something (make sure to put it in the same folder as your adxencd program).
5. Make sure all of your wavs are named properly, then move them to the same folder as your adxencd program.
6. Run converter.bat from DOS, and it should convert the wavs for you.
This WILL NOT loop the sound files unfortunately, but whenever I make an MvC2 disc, I only loop the training stage anyway (with or without a time limit, your fights shouldn't last like 4 mins anyway, right?)
The attachment is just how your converter should look in notepad.

When you make the image it will only make it with one track. You have to change the file extension from "nrg" or "img" to "bin. Then you have to use Bin2Boot to make it a selfboot image file. The image file that Bin2Boot creates will be 2 sessions long.

Hey, does anyone have any experience with AFS files? They are archives used to store the ADX files in some games.
The PS2 version of 3rd Strike uses one big AFS file with all the game data stored in it. I can use an "AFS Player", and listen to all the tracks inside the AFS (and see the correct filenames), but when I extract them, it creates like 1,500 bin files, and only 5 actual ADXs (versus screen, opening, capcom logo, game over, and credits).
I've tried using 2 different extractors so far, and neither of them can extract the music properly. Not only that, they don't name the files correctly when they are extracted; they just give them generic numbers (as in the two different extractors gave the same files different names) as opposed to the correct filenames, which are named after the BG (such as 001_NYC.ADX...they rename it to crap like [AFS filename]_00264.ADX).
he;lp
edit: ALso, the original OST has 2 tracks for every BG..as far as I can tell, only the first one is used. Where is the 2nd track for every stage used for the original soundtrack? .... ok it seems to just randomly shift to the 2nd track mid-round?

well thats a yes and no. If you have DC coder cables, then yes you can. If you dont have them then no you cant. Just download a mvc2 image file from Direct connect or bit torrent.

Nope, the process is identical. The only things that are different is the name of the ADX files you are replacing. Everything about how to replace the files and how to make it self boot are entirely identical.

ComboMasher, I followed your steps all the way through and wen i try to convert some the Wav files to ADX files some of the WAV files will not convert? Is there something that im doing wrong that the rest of the files dont convert? Also, i am having major problems with the self boot program that i dowloaded form you site, it dont work on Windows XP, is there any way that i could get it to work on Windows XP? Do I need a newer version or i just cant use it?

Well it could just be that you have a bad WAV file. Try redownliading it and converting it again. Also make sure that you are typing in the right file name for the songs. Download that converter.bat file from my tutorial and put it with your WAV songs http://dhost.info/combomasher/converter.bat . That saves you time so that you dont have to type in every song.

Yo, I'm trying to make a custom mix with PS2 3rd Strike, but I've run into a problem.
The ADX music files for the PS2 version are inside an AFS archive, along will ALL the 3rd Strike game data.
I can extract the ADX files, but there is a huge problem. All the extractors I've used RENAME all the files when they extract! I know this because I have an ADX player that can view/play all the music files straight from the AFS archive.
For example, the filename for the opening music is:
o52_Open.adx (the "o" means it's the original arcade music, not the arrange version)
But when extracted, the filename changes to:
[name of AFS file here]_1348.BIN
Now this wouldn't really be a problem, since I know all the real filenames, so I could just name them correctly and pack them into an AFS file. BUT, the AFS file contains all the fucking GAME DATA too, and I have no clue what the real filenames are for those (the game data consists of like 300 files).
Is there any AFS tool/extractor that will keep the REAL filenames intact?

I am having a little bit of trouble on the step where it says to convert your nrg file to a bin file, i change it to a bin file without no problems, but the major problem im having is getting that self boot program that makes the Game Self Boot, im having trouble making work on my computer, i have Windows XP Professional, would that be the problem why it is not working? If so, is there an alternate program i can use?

you could try using this program : http://www.dchomebrew.org/zacmcd/Files/Selfboot.exe
When you change the nrg to bin, are you just making the name of the file mvc2.nrg.bin? I did that at first and it didnt work. but try that program, it might work for you. You can try this program too: http://www.dcemulation.com/files/needed/dreamboot1-2.zip

When you convert the songs to adx, it shows you a bigass number.
After the song is done converting, type:
adxencd song.adx -lps0 -lpeBIGASSNUMBER
replace "song" with whatever the track is (adx_s000, adx_selc, etc.), and "BIGASSNUMBER" with the number that adxencd spit out when you made your adx.
That should make your adx loop.

The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to termine the application." Then i have the option to close or ignore, either way it is not self bootable. Then if i try and play the game using a boot disc, it will have the red percentage number on the left hand bottom corner, and then it will just stop, and go to a black screen. I really want this cvs2 mix so if somebody could help me out it would b much appreciated...shit, i'll even send u the songs n everything to make it for me......or if i could juss figure out how to fix the problems.

DO NOT UP THE VOLEUME WITH SOUND RECORDER
Not only does it screw up voices, but it will screw up the bass of the song as well and make it all scratchy.
as long as the songs you download are 128 or 196 quality they will work fine with out ajusting after conversion to Wav.
and if you think its a little too low, then just turn down the SFX voleume in the mvc2 game its self

you dont even have to make the image file with the program. Just change the songs you want in your custom mix. Load up the program, click on Mode 2, and locate your data folder that has all your files in it. Then click on either the "burn to a cd" option or click on the "make image file" option. You do not need to make an image file at all, the program does that for you.

I dont get it. My selfbooting copy of CvS2 doesn't have a IP.BIN so the selfbooting program creates one so it can boot.

I've tried it without the IP.BIN and it wont boot.

Just a note: In the final disk you burn for the DC, there should NOT be a file called IP.BIN in the root of the disk. I dont understand why, but it fucked things up on the ones I made. If you put the resulting cd in your computer, and you see a file called IP.BIN, you boned it somewhere.

This has nothing to do with looping ADX files and isnt caused by trying to loop ADX files. This is entirely dealing with the IP.BIN and the 1st_read.bin.
IP.BIN may not be good. Try another
IP.BIN may not be pointing to 1st_read.bin
There may be a file called IP.BIN in the root directory of the disc; get rid of it if there is.
1st_read.bin may not be valid; try another
1st_read.bin may not have its LBA set to the correct LBA for your second session.
Dreamcast may not be able to read the 1st_read.bin because of damaged cdr, burned it too fast, whatever.
There may be others, but 99% of your boot problems arise from one of those problems.

Dreamcast may not be able to read the 1st_read.bin because of damaged cdr, burned it too fast, whatever.
There may be others, but 99% of your boot problems arise from one of those problems.
1. I dont have a IP.bin for cvs 2 and there wasn't one on the original copy either. most of my games dont have ip.bins either..
2.The only thing in the root of the remix and the original copy were all the game files, the dummy file, and 1st_read.bin
3.I've got 36 dreamcast games,i tried all the 1st read.bins from all of em..still no luck.. 43 cdrs so far..
4.What's a LBA and how can i set it correctly? hex workshop? any steps to do it/things to look for?
and as well as a selfbooting CvS2,I also tried to make a non self booting CvS2 and still no luck... always boots to the sega screen then resets..so any leads as to what im doing wrong?
I'll even settle for a non self boot version. i got a boot disc, I just want to play.

HAve you tried the selfboot program that I linked too a few posts ago? That program called ExoBot is the only program ive seen that can make cvs2 selfboot. It takes care of all the ip.bin shit. here is the link http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=21680&page=18&pp=15

I tried to make the songs loop for the first time, but it did not work. The game came out just like any of my other custom mvc2's, it works, just doesn't loop. Does it matter that I used converter.bat (the .bat file that automatically converts the files from .wav to .adx in dos)? Also, when we are talking about the big ass number, are we talking about the number on the last line after we convert the file (ex: in the attachment, this # would be 2534400)? If that # is correct, then my next step would be to type:
adxencd ADX_S000 -lps0 -lpe2534400
Is this correct?

It shouldn't matter if you use my converter, I use it all the time. It sure looks like you're doing it right, so I really don't know why they don't loop...
Try to catch me on AIM sometime, and I'll try and get em going for you.

1. I dont have a IP.bin for cvs 2 and there wasn't one on the original copy either. most of my games dont have ip.bins either..
Selfboots wont have a file called ip.bin on the disc. The one you create wont, however you do need an ip.bin in order to selfboot. Most ip.bin's are interchangable. If you have my 3in1, get one of the ip.bin's from just about any directory, and it will work fine. You use that ip.bin for the IPINS.EXE portion of the selfbooting.
3.I've got 36 dreamcast games,i tried all the 1st read.bins from all of em..still no luck.. 43 cdrs so far..
1st_read.bin's are NOT interchangable. If you replaced the cvs2 1st_read.bin with one from another game, it will NOT work.
4.What's a LBA and how can i set it correctly? hex workshop? any steps to do it/things to look for?
LBA: long block addressing. Its a number that indicates how far into the disc the second session starts. This is the number that 'cdrecord --msinfo' gives you, that you put into BINHACK.EXE to properly modify the 1st_read.bin
I use the echelon self boot tutorial to selfboot mine. But since I dont know what all steps you took to make the disc, I cant tell you what you did wrong.

x- death, could you put a pick of the way you typed in your info on dod to loop the songs. when Tharimrattler and i both tried to put the .adx after the adx_s000.adx -lps0 -lpeBIGASSNUMBER the program got rid of the s000 that i had just transfered frome .wav to adx. can you help in any way?
X-Death
09-26-2004, 03:00 PM
Fucking fuck fuck fuck, I screwed up, you don't need to put the .adx after the song. Here's the fixed tutorial, and a pic. Sorry people, I'm off my game.
When you convert the songs to adx, it shows you a bigass number.
After the song is done converting, type:
adxencd song -lps0 -lpeBIGASSNUMBER
replace "song" with whatever the track is (adx_s000, adx_selc, etc.), and "BIGASSNUMBER" with the number that adxencd spit out when you made your adx.
That should make your adx loop.
well,i tried exoboot and whenever i try to select the data folder..it starts using 100% cpu and won't respond. exoboot wont work for me at all. seems like a great program, but i can't use it.
here's the steps i took in making this disk.
1.copied all the files from a self booting CvS2 to the hard drive
2.converted the mp3s to wav to adx and added them to the disc
3.made a image and tried bin 2 boot with the 1st read.bin from cvs2
4.then i tried to make it non selb booting after like 6 tries, then the fun started.
5.swapped 1st reads from other games and went through like 40 cdrs.
it would boot then reset.
so i dont know what the probblem would be. but i know i messed up somewhere...just dont know were..

good shyt
I finally got it to work! I had to use exoboot 1.21 though. The newest version always quit on me when i try to select a data folder,so i went back on the thread that had exoboot and got a earlier version.
here's the steps i took in making this cvs2 a success.
1.started with a selfbooting cvs2 and copied all the data to the hard drive.
2.picking what songs actually took the longest and when i got done deciding what goes where,i converted mp3 to wav with nero wave editor, made it louder in sound recorder then used adxncd to cnange to adx then i renamed the adxes to .bin
3.put all of that game data into exoboot 1.21's data folder and created a .cdi image and it actually worked! it booted up and all the music works perfectly, volume and all!
Thank you everyone for all your help and advice! and i hope everyone can get this down now that i got it working!!

Anyone know why my CDRWIN would be making Winrar files instead of Image files lol?
KingzJuster16-i am not sure if it works in Win98. As long as the programs that are in the tutorial are supported under Win98 i think it would work.
I was just reading through this thread and I don't know if anyone aswered this yet so here goes. The image file that CDRWin makes by default is an iso image (.iso extension). Winrar is setup to be the default program to view ISO images/files. If you don't change this in Winrar, then any .iso image on your computer will have the winrar icon by default. Winrar will work like windows explorer in this case; you will be able to open up the image and either extract the information or just view it. It is still an image and you can burn it with most burning programs that can burn .iso images.

It is possible to my knowledge. On cvs2 and mvc2 there are .Gif files which easy to create and manipulate on the cds. I have replaced the .Gifs on cvs2 but dunno what part they show up on. And some people have edited the marvel vs capcom 2 title screens. Sure other stuff is editable just need right progs. So lemme know u people in programing schools and such.

Nope, its just bin2boot without the fancy gui, has nothing to do with selfboot.exe (fucking bullshit program). Download >this< (http://www.megagames.com/console/cgi-bin/dl.cgi?id=dc&file=bin2bootb!zip), put it in the same folder as your image.bin, then open the command prompt and get to that folder and type:

I don't think that any version of bin2boot will work. Bin2boot is meant to run with a 16bit version of dos, and it looks like it just isn't compatibe with XP (I hope this isn't true  ). I have been using b2b ever since it came out, but I had stopped just before I got my new pc, and now I can't use it. I have tried every version that I have and nothing. Exoboot might work, I am going to try it out now.

I just got through using Exoboot and I get the same error message that I get with bin2boot; plus, just above the line "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.", there is another line of text that says: "C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CMD.EXE". The only difference is that when I click ignore the program tries to continue to finish making the image file. When the program finishes, there is no image and it doesn't tell me if it was successful or not. I did a search on my pc for the image file and it isn't there, so I am left to believe that it didn't make the image. I don't know what I need, but there is something that I am missing. I even tried to change the compatability settings for exoboot to win2k, but to no evail. So I tried to use the loop feature in CVS2 since I only tried Marvel before, and it worked! Dunno why cvs2 works for this but not mvc2, maybe its the copy I have or something... I am glad it works on CVS2 though because matches are much longer, and songs often end before the match is over, but not anymore with loop. MVC2 matches rarely last long enough for the song to end so I can live with it, looping training stage would be good though.

Every mix I've ever made(25 or so), I've always done the following.......
1. Place all the wav files in adxencd folder(ensure they are all properly named ADX_Sxxx.WAV)
2.Run.....cmd
3.CD C:\
4.CD ADXENCD
5.ADXENCD ADX_Sxxx.WAV
6.ADXENCD ADX_Sxxx.WAV -lps0 -lpe(insert number here)
This has never failed me.
Please note that the 0 is a zero and the l is an L
For XP users, after line 5, you can save a bit of time by pressing the up arrow on your keyboard. It will put whatever you last typed on the next command line.(ADXENCD ADX_Sxxx.wav)
On another side note, ensure your not saving a wav file as ADX_Sxxx.WAV.wav.......I've seen more than one person do this

I think I found what my problem was when looping tracks, it seems that when I put "lps/lpe" in capital letters it doesn't work, but when they are lower case they do work. I even get a different message in DOS when I type the two.

its the EXACT same way for cvs2 as it is for marvel.. just diff stage file names...
on another note... anyone know of a wav edit program that will make songs louder, but NOT fuck up quality?

Did anybody ever figure out how to change the verses screen sound yet? If so let me know ASAP. I seriously want to get rid of that if possible.

Isn't the VS screen sound just another sound file? I remember hearing it when I modded my MvC2.

You know anybody who changed it? And yes, it is a sound file I believe.
Snowman

Don't you just replace it with whatever sound source you want but rename it to its original adx file? Just like when editing the stages. The same principal should work here too. I never changed the VS sound because it never bothered me.

I could never find which one it is, do you know which file it is in the data folder? The mvc2 data folder with all of the files? And are you sure it's ADX??
Snowman

I don't have the files on my PC anymore. If I can get the data file extracter then I'll check one of my MvC2's for ya.

I do believe that the verses screen is not an ADX file because my cinepack wont detect it anywhere.

I was trying to download the daemon tools from http://www.daemon-tools.cc but I keep getting this message when it tries to install:
Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windowns\Cur rentVersion\Run Verify that you have sufficient access to the key, or contact your support personell.
What the hell is that? And can you use anything else for it?

DrumlinerJoe: that's a registry key. go into START > RUN > "regedit"
then go look for that. it runs like explorer. make sure the key is there
if not... you're probably going to need to find a way to get taht registry key. go to microsoft.com and try to find an update to get it or something. i've never had that problem, but i've noticed that sometimes registry mechanic and ad-aware changes shit in the registry and fucks mine up
that's all i can tell u about that
i have a package made by forte on my website including all the tools to make custom marvel.
http://gamefaqs.servebeer.com/m1x4h/
go to the downloads section. the file with everything BUT the burning software is on there

Couldn't find it in the steps you told me, not under the "regedit" files. Nothing about Daemon tools in there. What kind of update would I download from Microsoft?

Yo Im just trying to get the files from my selfboot copy of mvc2 on my hard drive. Everytime I try to cut and paste the files I get an error on the files saying I cant do it...
Can someone help me out here.

01-14-2005, 06:50 PM
you couldn't find it in regedit because it's not there
you need to go to microsoft to download that part of the registry again. it should be up there on their site. if not, you're going to have to reinstall windows, or send it to a tech.
Preppy
01-14-2005, 07:38 PM
It should actually be:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Run
You should be able to find all of these keys. If one of these keys is not present, which one is it?
But basically, if the above key doesn't exist, Windows isn't really going to run very well, if at all.

That means you dont have permissions for installing it on your system. Log out of your normal account, log in as Adminitrator, and un the install. Then log out, and log back in as your normal user.

I'm 99.9% positive that i've done everything right as far as making the ISO is concerned, but the disc won't seem to burn properly.
For anyone who got this to work, what did you use to burn it (I have both Nero and DiscJuggler) and what version did you use? If there's anything special that needs to be done as far as the burning process goes, please tell me. Thank you much

How do I make an MvC2 image file, or is this a question I shouldn't be asking? (any legal reasons?)
I have the same problem. I am using XP Pro SP2 and this is the error message verbatim:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

To all of you with this problem, it's related to your system setup for handling MSDOS commands. You can find a simple solution here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767
It's a pretty serious problem that drove me up the wall for a long time, I hope this solve has helped some of you out.

Well, now that the site is gone/down, any body wanna explain this or post another site?
Does anyone know where do I find the AFSExplorer?
Iīm trying to mix a MVC2 for PS2, but I think the AFS2ADX is changing the musics (ADX) names for generic names created by the program.
OR, just to make it easy, does anyone know in What AFS are the musics (ADX) files that I need to extract, and what are the name of the usics on PS2? (Because I only got, for example, ADX00_0000.adx to ADX00_0022.adx (22 adx files) when I extract AFS00.AFS). Couldnīt find Others ADX in AFS01, AFS02 and AF03.

I have a copy of CVS2 that's selfboot but doesn't actually have an IP.BIN. Is there any way I could get someone's IP.BIN from a copy of CVS2 that has it, and then an explanation on how I can actually make this thing selfboot? I tried ghetto-rigging it by using an MVC2 IP.BIN and that obviously produced a coaster.
EDIT: Finally managed to download Exoboot. Will try to burn now. Oh shit!
