I can't remember much from the 1st few days so i'll point out some random stuff...most ggxx thank you.

-Family Fun is a great arcade with shitloads of mvc2/cs2/3s cabinets. They even had a bunch of jap cabs for 3s, and some other random games.
-I used to thing Soomighty was full of shit, but after watching him play, and getting resetted twice in an infinite, I quickly changed my mind...hes fucking good.

-There were 4 serious japanese ggxx players (Daigo, RF, Miu and Kindevu). Daigo only played in the tourny but the others beasted on casual. Watching Miu play sol was actually fun cuz everything seems to flow in his direction...he even had some sick sol combos ive never seen. (didn't stop me from ending his winstreak!!!whoo im 1-1 with him:D). RF is a little guy like Miu but is much scarier. I used faust a few times at FF and he was watching me for a while. Next thing i know he plays me, picks faust and i get peaced out like nothing..I can't even explain that shit. Then theres Kindevu, aka 2nd best eddie in the world aka the guy who got 103 wins at FF. His style and execution was amazing. I had a few close matches with him, but he'd always come back, always. I also hate eddie but he made it fun as hell to watch.

-marvel was fun. I went 2-2 and didn't qualify.

-ggxx was even better. I lost 1 match to David Navarrette from NE and later found out he lost to a guy I beat in our pool. Now theres a problem, us 3 have equal ammount of wins (the other guys in our pool got rocked) and now we have to play a sudden death match. This means 1 player has to beat the other 2 players. I face the Cali guy who beat David and beat him then go on to lose to David himself...I lose. He then goes on to play the Cali guy...and loses. THIS GOES ON FOR 4 FUCKING SUDDEN DEATH MATCHES!!! Last match i beat out the cali guy again and pick faust (cuz David seems to do bad vs him) and lose by a few fucking pixels to david, then he finally beats the Cali guy so both David and I qualify. Boy, that Cali guy was really pissed.
-I make it to the next day and win a few matches (managed to beat unconckable, a guy whos known for his baiken and his dust loop) before finally losing to Eric Choi, another baiken user...i love her but she hates me. In the end, I probably placed between 33-40th.

other highlights:

-All of us managed to beat a japanese player in our respective games.
-Roger beating Daigo was the sickest match for cvs2, I'm sorry i couldn't record it in time.
Adam almost beat rick ortiz in 3s. He played so crazy in those matches and the crowd was so into it too.
-ST is gay, but the final 8 was actually more fun to watch than cvs2. Kuni all the way!!
-every final 8 tourny (cept for marvel), was exciting and fresh. Marvel wasn't that hot cuz seattle didn't come and Jwong completely controlled every game.
-Antoine's mvc2 and 3s' imitations were dead on man. too fucking good.
-clayton doing a 360 degree nipple pull without a shirt on...good god

I'll leave the rest to the others cuz they can say it better..

ps. for the record, I THOUGHT ADAM'S ARM WAS THE BAR. DO NOT LET THESE FUCKERS INFLUENCE YOU...FUCKERS..2200

yo just wanted to thank the cats who came out to evo this yr. U guys made the trip that much more bareable for me. Good job representing CAnada my friends, despite the sticks being shit and all i think we enjoyed ourselves to the fullest. Next time lets try to hit up more clubs though. So Paul Lee and Mike Watson from Socal are planning to venture all the way here for T5. Seeing how these 2 names are more well known than Daigo and Tokido, i'm gonna bust a nut when they come up here.

The problem is, they dont have housing and most likely will not come if they can't find it. The price of the plane tickets is already so much. If anyone can house one of the 2 people, or perhaps both, for about 4-5 days, that'd be totally cool.

I might be able to house them both but i won't know for sure for quite a while.

So ask your folks if you can have a friend live at your place for like 4-5 days. It would basically only be for sleep.

Sorry Karan but Jaime (The Cate) has already challenged me first round in CvS2. If you like, your team can face my team on the Friday night first round in the Team Tournament. Other than that I can't help you much short of booking you in the same pool and same bracket as myself and that wouldn't be quite... balanced.

GGs at Orbit yesterday (Satuarday). I was there from 11am - 6pm that day. I got better with those sticks and I like them better than SW sticks now.

I bought myself a whole lot of PS2 games, including GG:Isuka and 3rd strike. 3rd strike looks fun. WTF is GG:Isuka? This game is too whacky

I'm getting bored of CVS2....this game is really broken and stupid now that I think about it.

Word up homies. Just cuz I’m on the west coast doesn’t mean I can’t post up my Evo log in the TO thread. I know this is a bit overdue but fuck I work full time. This year’s trip was more than just Evo. Last year we learned that to make the trip a little more worthwhile, we should hit LA longer and have a bit more of a vacation. So last Tuesday, I flew out of San Fran to land in LA around the same time as Marvin, Adam, Antoine, Stephen, Roger and Bryan. Wandering through the airport I couldn’t find them at first but after a random “BEEEeeeeoooooOOOPPP!” caught my attention I saw them and it was on.

We grab our luggage and head over to Budget to pick up the minivan we rented. Head out to the van, start loading it up and all of a sudden I hear “What the hell is that?!” Apparently there was some sort of unknown bug flying nearby. Adam freaked a little and took a couple of quick paces to get away. Little did we know that this would be the beginning of his bug ordeal.

We drive to Shilo (our hotel) and check in. On the way there we talk about what should be the saying for the trip -- the one thing we yell out for no reason randomly. We go with Jonstar’s “Here we go”. Simple, yet effective, and pretty damn funny when used at the most inappropriate times. After dumping our stuff at the hotel we realize we can’t play DC cuz for some reason Roger’s DC doesn’t work with the RF adapter... we need a VGA box. Great. Whatever. Time to hit the town.

After a quick stop at Radio Shack to fix the DC problem, and another stop for a quick pop-in I had to make, we park on Hollywood Blvd. and walk down the street checking out the walk of stars and Man’s Chinese Theatre among other sites. Unfortunately, we couldn’t really get to Man’s because they had the street blocked off for the premiere of “White Castle” starring Adam and Antoine or Jay and Ian, however you wanna put it. I dunno what that movie’s about, but it looked pretty stupid and if the number and types of people waiting for the stars to arrive was any indication of how the movie will do, well I wouldn’t go buy stock in that one.

Adam got pissed that because of the premiere he couldn’t see Michael Jackson’s star. Fortunately a Batman look-alike was nearby and Marvin convinced him to be put in a headlock for a picture so it all worked out. Later while walking around Marvin put his cigarette out on Michael J. Fox’s star. I was a little disappointed seeing as Michael has a debilitating disease and has done nothing wrong, whereas the star two stars up from him was Kenny G. who clearly has made the world a worse place through his music and just in general by sucking so much. We also found out that apparently Jursuck also lives in LA.

From Hollywood it was time to hit Family Fun. For me this wasn’t an entirely new experience since I was there during E3, but for the rest of the guys they got to see how an arcade should be. Between FF and University Pinball, I kinda like U Pinball better. Awesome sticks, good music, you could smoke back then. Not knocking Family Fun though. FF is all about Capcom fighting games. It’s not about watching girls play jits, which sets Metro apart from anywhere.

Anyways, we leave Stephen, Roger and Brian at Family Fun after playing for only a few minutes while Marvin, Adam, Antoine and I drive down to Malibu to hit a bar a friend recommended. The drive took forever, and in retrospect, maybe I should have taken the highway rather than the 40-minute Initial D stage that I chose to drive. But whatever. We get to Dukes of Malibu and the place is rammed, rammed mind you not with seedy truckers, but with hot beach blondes, some with implants, some without, all of them no older than 26-27. Holy fuck. If heaven is half as good as that I’ll be happy. The bar itself sits right on the beach so while you’re drinking a Corona and looking at the fine hunnies, waves are breaking and crashing, spraying up right behind you. Pretty cool shit.

After a few hours there we head back to Family Fun to play some games. All the 3S heads are there -- Pyro, Rock, Mopreme, Hsien, and a ton of others. Can’t remember them all. They have so many 3S cabinets there that you hardly ever have to wait for a match. I play some games, win some, lose some, and learn pretty quickly that for some reason I can’t dash as well on the US sticks. I don’t have a problem on the Japanese cabinet though. After a few hours of gaming, we all hop in the van and spend an hour driving back to the hotel (it wasn’t close). Once we get back I crash to sleep and I think others did shortly after.

On to Wednesday. So it’s the afternoon. Yeah, we slept in until like 1:00-2:00-ish. Nice. That leaves us the rest of the day to hit Universal Studios. Roger doesn’t want to come with us so we drop him off at Family Fun before hitting the theme park. We park in the Curious George section and head over to the park entrance which is a good 20 minute walk from there. Along the way some random dude working at one of the restaurants there looks at us and goes “Hey, Toronto guys”. We’re like “What the fuck?” Apparently he’s a regular at Family Fun and saw us there the night before. That’s cool. He was WAY too polite though -- think Adam but without the sarcastic shit talk behind your back after he meets you, lol. Anyways, we stop to get sun screen. Stephen didn’t want any. I don’t have any clue why. We frolic in the water before going to line up for our passes.

So $50 US gets you into the park, but some random people leaving the park come out and give us their “Front of the line” passes, three of them. Can you guess what those do? That’s right, you don’t have to wait in line for anything with those. Sweet. We head in after making fun of Bryan for good reason. While Bryan, Stephen and Marvin head into the Terminator ride/show, Adam, Antoine and I chill outside. We’re all astounded by lack of service at the concession stands. Adam has to wait three minutes to get the attention of one of three employees that are talking about jack shit. Meanwhile, two employees staff an ice cream cart and clearly have ice cream but then tell you they’re not open, and that they’re never open. (Later I went back when another two employees were there and got the same story. Fucking racists.)

Some girl running one of the games decided to have a bit of fun and spray us with some water as we walked by. I said fuck that. I had a $3 bottle of water with me and I unleashed -- fucking money shot on that bitch. Adam scared the shit out of some dude walking by with a T-Shirt that said Canada -- he yelled “Canada! Canada!” I don’t know if the dude knew Adam meant we were Canadian or if Adam was some American guy that was really upset with Canada, lol.

Okay, Back To The Future. This shit is classic. Antoine, Stephen and I go line up for the front of the line section of the ride. We get to this turnstile and it won’t budge so we move out of the way. Just then these three girls maybe 11-12 years old come up behind us and I’m like “Go on through ladies, don’t worry I work here”. Well this overweight girl tries to go through the turnstile and of course it doesn’t move. We all bust out laughing and the girl tells her friends to hit me. It was pretty funny.

After the ride, we meet up with the rest of the crew who are having some chicken or something. They’re at some tables near a bunch of trash cans and of course, bees are everywhere. Well, Adam can’t take it. He bolts from the table a couple of times and finally gives up. Again, no biggie. No one really notices that he’s got a bee phobia at this point.

Next is the studio tour where a big train (kinda like the ones they drive around at the zoo) drives you around the back lot of Universal Studios -- it’s kind of educational and a show at the same time. You get to see sets and stuff but you also get like the Earthquake ride from Universal Studios Florida, and King Kong, etc. Well, at one point we’re supposed to cross this pond or whatever but the bridge is washed out so the driver tells that on the count of three, we all have to yell “Part the waters!!”. Well, this was the perfect opportunity for our trip slogan -- “Here we go!!” When the count came, I yelled it out, and of course the driver noticed. Click here for the video for shits and giggles. Marvin made it a point to make sarcastic comments to the tour guide the whole time which he apparently didn’t like that much, lol.

Some of the guys hit The Mummy The Ride while Antoine, Marvin and I eat and look at hot girls. After, Adam, Stephen, Antoine and I hit Jurassic Park. Think Wild Water Canyon from Wonderland combined with Timberwolf Falls, only the falls don’t soak you as much. All was well for most of the ride, but when we got to the top of the big drop, that’s when all hell broke loose. We plummet to the ground and after the big ride, Adam turns to Stephen and asks “Hey, did you try to grab my arm?” and Stephen’s like “Uh, I thought it was the bar.” Yes. Adam’s vertical arm is very easily mistaken for the horizontal bar. Well, in the picture they snap of us going down the chute, you clearly see Stephen reaching back for Adam’s bicep. Fucking gay. You also see Antoine holding on the bar for dear life, but that’s another story. Funny pic. I’ll try to get it scanned in.

Next we do some special effects show where the highlight is Adam being chosen as an audience participant and having to use a giant cats paw to poke and prod at some fat chick. Too good. And that’s about it for Universal. We made fun of a lot of people, rode some rides, and Marvin raced everyone up the escalators and won.

Back to Family Fun we go and this time the Japanese guys are there. KO is owning shit up with the most deadly rush down Makoto I’ve ever seen. He had like 30 wins before someone took him off. None of that command grab, fierce XX hayate, grab again or low short XX hayate shit. Every time he was near the corner he’d parry then fierce XX SA2. Every time he wasn’t near the corner he’d do command grab then fierce XX EX hayate. He also had a way of using EX uppercut and getting it to hit on every opponent jump in (it was done really late).

Sugiyama, the Japanese Necro is damn good too. I was hoping he would have made it farther at Evo, but his plane left on Sunday so he threw his match to KSK. Anyways, this Necro is fucked. He gets you in the corner and then stands right outside throw range and does nothing. No matter what you stick out, he parries you into a tornado hook combo XX super #3 and god help you if you dizzy because he’s likely to follow up with electricity, stand jab, low fierce (not the down-back elbow, low fierce, wtf!!), another jab, etc. Just crazy.

The throw an impromptu team tourney and I pair with Ken I. (Makoto) and 720 (Hugo) from Family Fun. I sucked (as was expected) and we won I think one before going two and out. Marvin, Adam and Antoine did well, but Marvin was the MVP. He got in the zone and beasted on Hsien and Mopreme. Not ownage mind you but when you’re facing players of that level, you can’t expect that. To put it in perspective, last year Marvin couldn’t touch either of those guys. This year, he beat them to send team Texas to losers. Too good.

After Family Fun we hit up Denny’s for some food, then back to the hotel.

Thursday we’re late for the big 3S tourney at Family Fun but so is everyone else. For my part I go two and out (or maybe I won one, not sure). Anyways, I wasn’t expecting much. The others did relatively well but I think it was about then that Antoine and Adam were humbled about the level of the gameplay down there. Adam made a good point about a year ago if he had shown up for Evo he would have done really well because people weren’t playing at that level and I tend to agree -- a lot of those guys have come a long way in a year.

Anyways, highlight of my day was sitting beside the Jap cabinet for the 3S semis and finals. Daigo comes over to play and leans down to get a stool just as I lean down to offer him a stool behind him and of course we bump heads -- that’s right, I headbutted Daigo. Word up.

Tourney ends and again Denny’s. Our tables get split and Antoine and I pretty much ignore Bryan and talk to the Family Fun guys at dinner. It was around this time that we noticed that all Bryan does is agree with whatever you’re saying and then repeat it back to you in a different way using any expletive possible and the word “eh”. So for example, I go “We gotta jet at 10:00 tomorrow night” and he’d say “Fuck shit, 22:00 yeah eh?” Adam took this to further lengths by adding a ton of curse words. The next morning when Bryan said something we’d all answer him with “Fuck shit yeah bitch cunt ass nipples queef pussy fuck, yeah eh?... Fucker.” Pure jokes. It took him a while to figure out what was going on, but he eventually got it. Even Roger joined in on that.

Okay onto Evo now. I sucked. I shoulda went 4-0 in my bracket and I played stupid and impatient and I went 2-2 and didn’t qualify. I wasn’t too disappointed though, I mean, what damage was I gonna do? Marvin qualifies in CvS2 and 3S, Adam got scammed in the brackets by having Amir and Ricky in the same bracket so he was gone, Antoine qualified in 3S, Stephen made it in GGXX and Roger qualified in CvS2. Let’s go to Denny’s.

At Denny’s our waitress for the night was Virinder, which Adam aptly pointed out sounds like a robot’s name -- V-Rinder 3000 (pronounced Vee Rynder). We carried that on throughout the trip. Speaking of Adam, earlier that day we were walking to the parking lot and all of a sudden Adam breaks into a dead sprint for 30 feet. Well apparently it was because there was a bee near him. Yes, Adam is deathly afraid of bees and we made fun of him for it. Every time he was near a garbage can with bees he’d carefully navigate it, and on one occasion in a Little Caesar’s there was a bee on the inside of the glass and it was all Adam could do to slip out the door rather than busting through the window to get away from the bee.

Okay, so we all eventually lose and we’re out of Evo. That’s about it for the tournament. Finals were boring for most games except 3S. I’ll end off with some random good times:

Sorry I can't help you on housing. My parents smoked that idea.

The Team Tournament entry fee is per team. So in the case of CvS2, each member pays $5 if it's 1:1:2 but price per player changes depending on if you take 2:2 or Ratio 4.

Hell, Japanese sticks are superior to American ones, in terms of execution (shorter shaft = faster movement, and faster movement = faster execution). You should play better on Japanese sticks.

I think most players who have played exclusively on American sticks have a very hard time playing on Japanese sticks, regardless of how intrinsically "better" they may be.

You should go check out the CNTower, its dt and its a pretty good sight. I believe EX (its like a big carnival/amusement park that happens once a year) will be open the 20th..not too sure.
And if your dt, check out the eaton centre for some shopping but beware of church street....it belongs to the homos.
Pacific mall comp is random during the week but usually has players on fri-sat. If u go to orbit and meet some of the 3s guys, they can point u in the direction of bars/pool halls.

So it's one day before T5. I go to work as usual and take my gf home and hang out at at her place till 10 pm.

Time to go home to clean up, since a couple of people are sleeping over on friday. Ah, what the hell, I'll just check SRK before I go.

What the fuck!??! This guy isn't supposed to come until friday. So now I have to drop by Orbit to get this idiot, even though my gf told me to leave his ass there. Guy doesn't even have my cell phone #.

So I drop by Orbit and we take the bus to my place. It's late at night, and there are a couple of 'thugs' sitting in the back. Now, for some odd reason, Geese is wearing a giant fanny pack around his waist. And starts pulling out 20's and counting them. Jesus Christ, we're gonna get robbed. I tell him to put the fucking money away. It's at this point that I realize that this is going to be one of the longest weekends in my life.

Anyway, we arrive at my place and order double double panzerottis. This turns out to be a very bad idea because, for the rest of the weekend, he can't stop talking about them. I mean they're good, but he thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Apparently he kept talking to Paul Lee about it.

So we play some games after, and Geese INSISTS on showing me some elite tactic with Q vs Chun-Li. It consists of Q hitting standing roundhouse, Chun Li supering him with SAII, Q blocking the rest of the hits. Wow, that's beautiful, block super, that's awesome!

Friday, August 13th.

I tell Geese to head to Orbit by himself so I can go pick up my gf. Anyway, I head off to Orbit after dropping her off, and looks like people have started arriving for T5. This is the best T tournament ever, there are so many people here.

I start looking for people to join team tournaments with. And let's see who I find:

CvS2 - L.S.D. That is all.
AE - Angry Black and Dogberry. But that get's cancelled.
3S - Gerjay and ......GEESE.

Someone give me my money back.

Anyway, I walk around, watching people play and see THE WATSON tearing people apart in AE.

So I decide to play a game. And win. And spend the rest of the day doing this:

I pick R2 Yun and Tony picks R2 Bison. Now, he's been talking to me all day about how his Bison is fucking awesome. Ok. So I beat Watson and half of Paul Lee. Here comes R2 Bison with full life and full meter.

I sit back and chat with Wing, then look back. WTF!!?! Why does Bison have NO LIFE? OMG. I see Tony trying to mash lvl 3 super the whole round, and keeps dying.....finally kills Paul with it.

This is not good. But we win anyways.

We get OCV'd by Jonstar then by some Elena.

Anyways, we're out, and I'm just dead tired and sick as shit and want to go home. But guess what? Fucking Jon decides to be in the finals for all 3 team tournaments, and single handedly delays the tourny for like 5 hours. I'm gonna kick him in the nuts the next time I see him.

So Me, Watson, Paul, and a host of other people drop by Markham Station. Which is apprently some sort of 24 hour resturant. It's pretty good, but the floor was sticky. I mean really sticky, like my shoe almost came off. And this whole entire time, Geese is like "when are we going home? who's driving us home? are we going to take the bus back? when are we going?"

Shut up.

Ryan drives me geese watson and paul back to my place. We basically just crash 'cause it's like 6 am. Even though Geese still wanted to play.

Well we eventually go to sleep.

Saturday, August 14th.

So Mike and Paul are hanging out in the living room, and out walks Geese.

First Observation in Japan : Our level of 3S play in Toronto is pretty good.

Second Observation in Japan : We still get owned againast the top tiers.

High Point: Getting 12 win streak at Game newton on random guys.

Low point: Best Necro in Japan shows up and perfects me 5 times in 6 rounds.

High Point: 1000 Yens later, I finally can adapt to his style, and even managed to perfect him twice.

Low Point: Some guy who`s suppose to used to be the third best Dudley in japan comes up and owns me up. He`s probably winning 70% of the matches. This is pretty crazy. cause I consider this my best matchup. And he just runs me over from time to time. Crazy mind games. c.LP -> walk forward -> swing punch and other stuff like that. Everytime he lands a c.HK it`s ducking hit and SAIII, evertime he lands the HK overhead, he gets the super. EVERYTIME!! wtf... This leaves Toronto and the GTA without a major tournament director. It's time for someone else to step up. If someone seriously thinks they wanna do it, then you have to realize it's a thankless job and that patting yourself on the back for the job done is reward enough. That being said, if you do want to do this, then start running tournaments now, get to know arcade owners. Build that trust where they'll let you run a T scale tournament. Or perhaps it's time that the T tourney goes to console? Either way, someone has to step up, or the tourney scene is gonna die here.

small tournies are fun to run and u get to know more ppl...Large tournies like the T series are hard, annoying and the ppl around you are full of shit and go out of their way to bitch about everything.

No offense to anyone but the only ppl that could possibly make the T series work were will, ryan and nagata (sorry justin, I like calling u nagata better). There are a few people who I think could run it but I doub't they would even bother. Our only solution....is js, and I'm serious. If he gets some help in organizing/running tournies/have someone speak for him when dealing with orbit staff, I'm sure the tounry/T scene will stay alive.

Well from what I saw, the only hard part about running a major tournament is getting extra machines and being organized. Its pretty obvious. The brackets once constructed can be run by themselves by people passing the brackets around and filling them in. Or just leaving them at the machine.

I'm pretty sure anyone could do it if they tried @_@.

I was at orbit today. I was um using dudley ken yun makoto. Makoto sa1 the most. Getting used to these sticks, but I don't know why the fuck I randomly jump up .
