So I wanna know what the deal is now that #R is out with its domestic release. Would people want to attend XX tourneys at the arcade still or have console #R tourneys? I'm just asking because I think there are a lot of good GG players in different areas of SoCal and it's important to get everybody's opinion on this. I'm also willing to lend a hand in helping organize the GG comp around here since other parts of the U.S. have started throwing #R tourneys already.

I just noticed this thread! I think, as a whole, SoCal is playing #R more than XX. A lot of people I know agree that #R is a better game, and I think Evo is making the switch too.

hey matt.. u know the differences w/ millia on #R? all i know are her combos are weaker. :amazed:Sup Josh! Here is a list of Millia's changes. It's from the gamecombos.com forums, and it was originally posted on SRK by my homie Kugler a long time ago.

Millia's changes in #R

Movement: Air Dash 22.0->20.0 dots. Air back dash 16.5->15 dots
Dust: Startup 27->25F. Recovery 27->23F
Jump D: Damage 40->36. Normal hit causes the opponent to fly sideways. Active 6->7F. Landing recovery 5->6F. Increased priority
Tandem Top(HS): Increased guard damage
Far Standing S: Added hittable frames as it comes out
Jump S: Decreased priority
Dead Angle Attack: Recovery 28->33F
Normal Throw: Base damage correction 50%->40%
Jump: Startup 2->3F
Air Back Dash: Increased size of hittable frames
Iron Saber: Damage 48->36. Base damage correction 90%
Bad Moon: Base damage correction 80%. FRC point added at 6~8F after hiting the opponent or touching the ground. Landing recovery 4->7F
Silent Force: Base damage correction 80%. Guard damage set to 10. Distance to retrieve needle 128->100 dots. Attack level 3->2. Max stagger 52->49

Basically, they made her airdashes shorter for some reason, changed her j.D around, made her far 5S a good zoning tool (dash in, far 5S->5H->2D is really good to score a knockdown), her ground throw scales more if you combo after it (which is lame), and decreased the stun on her hairpin. I think she's still good, maybe top 6 or 7 in #R.

selfscience: Is your Xbox Gamertag just "SelfScience"? Mine is (once again) "Sir Phobos84". We would probably have minimal lag if we played on Live.

You guys wanna do monthly #R tournies? Bi-weeklies? Strictly casual play? At people's houses?

I'm down for some #R wherever. Unfortunately after playing #Reload over the summer and now on live.. I can't really go back to normal XX, especially when there's no Robo Ky. Arcade Infinity near Pomona/Clairmont has a #Reload cabinet though. But yeah let's try and get this shit organized.

Everytime I go down there, there is never any players on the cabinet. Mostly just KOF comp and 3s Ken comp.

It does have a nice kick-ass screen on #R.

AI is pretty much a Bemani centered anyways, I'll be there
Friday afternoon-evening for a 2DX fix. If anyone happens to stop
by randomly and play any fighting game (maybe not Kof2003 ugh..) I'll see you there.

I'll be the random white guy there. My name is Andy.

Corona/Rico peoples: Casuals sound good, I'd like to play some
#Reload since Camelot is kinda hit/miss anyways. Since most of the GGXX players in this area know Alfred that would make it easier to meet more of the regional players.

Hey you

We should get more meetings on GGXX and whatever shit that is popular around Corona/Rico. Since people are playing #R more.

The only time I might go to AI is when they get CFE, just to try it out and use my Warzard characters. But I'll play anyone on #R.

#R Console Tourney at UCI's Zot Zone on Saturday, November 6

Calling all gear hunters! UCI will be holding it's first #R console tourney at Zot Zone on Saturday, November 6. Signups are at 12pm and the tourney will start at 1pm. The entry fee will be $3 since we've never held a console tourney at Zot Zone before and we want to see how things will turn out. If time permits, we will hold a 2v2 or 3v3 team tourney after singles and that will be $3 dollars per person as well.

Other info:

-we will have two console setups: 2 PS2
-prize money will be split 70/20/10 for singles but will be winner take all for team
-bring your own controllers or joysticks
-singles will be best 2 out of 3 double elimination format throughout except finals which is 3/5
-team tourney will be head to head "last team standing" like Japanese style 2v2's or 3v3's but also will have a double elimination format
-people on a team cannot use the same characters, ex. no team of all Robo-Ky's
-EX, Shadow, and Gold versions of the original characters are banned
-Kliff and Justice are also banned
-no SP colors, only original default arcade colors are allowed
-you are allowed to configure your buttons and test out your controls before the match starts however you can't map buttons in a way such that 1 button = 2 or more different buttons, ex. no 1 button RC's or FRC's
-please keep close watch on anything you bring since we aren't responsible for anything lost or stolen

Other featured games include MvC2, CvS2, and 3S all on arcade. Click on this link for more info on those games:

http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75154

Please check this post again for updates since I will be making some. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also reply in this thread too if you or anybody else you know are going so I can get an idea of how many people there will be for the tourney. Thanks!

I agree that people need to start banding together and playing. Otherwise the scene is NEVER going to develop. I would be interested in getting some sort of north-of-LA scene going. As far as I know, there's no GG scene in So.CA anywhere north of the valley.

Okay I've been contemplating whether to have 1 XBOX and 1 PS2, 2 XBOX, or 2 PS2 setups. I'm leaning towards 2 PS2 setups since I think most people have sticks for PS2 and not XBOX. Also I don't wanna risk any PS2->XBOX adapters failing in the middle of matches. I might still bring an XBOX just in case.

If I'm going to go with the 2 PS2 setups, I'll have to ask someone to volunteer in bringing a PS2 with a copy of #R. Just reply on here or PM me if you can help me out with this. If anybody has an opinion on the dileema with choosing the console setups, feel free to reply as well.

Alright, well how about we start planning for a tourney, and shoot for mid-late January. People should be back from vacations, and settled into their school schedule, but not yet bogged down by homework and stuff. If we pick a date far enough in advance, those that need to can get the day off work so they can come out.

Def1n1tely's right - we are REALLY spread out. We should all move to one town, claim it as our own, and rename it Guiltopolis. What we should ACTUALLY do is figure out just how far spread out we are, and pick a focal point that's the most convenient for everyone. Hell, even a couple focal points. Then we can start gathering at those points and get the community blood flowing.

Fi.p.L - good to hear, man. I'm lookin' forward to it. You can rest assured my Johnny is ready to throw his pocket change in your face! :pleased:

I think a lot of people are off on vacation and doing family stuff so these threads will heat up a little more in the coming weeks.

Fi.p.L says there will be a tourney in Irvine sometime in January, so that'll be good stuff. I expect we'll hear about it early enough that we can still make plans.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on upcoming Reload tournies...from what I read FFA is holding a SBO qualifier Reload tourney on the 19th of Feb. I'll more than likely be there for sure...it's suppose to be 2 man teams...and only 1 character can be used the whole tourney. Also I believe you can't both use the same characters...I'll have to double check that. I'm not really sure if it's going to be held at FFA inside or at someones place near by. hey can everyone who's interested in consistent #R tournies (possibly biweekly or monthly) post up their locations so we can find out where would be closest for everyone to meet up? like i've said before, thousand oaks would be perfect for the 3 of us in SB, and we should be able to host them fairly often.. but we need to find out how far everyone is from there, and who all would be willing to go and get the WC / SoCal #R scene going again..

Well, we've got SBO coming, and then Texas Showdown in March.

I don't know how many of you SoCal #R players are gonna try to go all the way out to Texas to test your skills against that scene, but I probably won't be (unless I get a free ride and lodging). Would people be up for staggered tourneys? That way the dates won't conflict with the other ones, and people will be able to go to both, or one or the other if they like.

So how about we try to organize something? I can do a tournament at my place in Thousand Oaks. It's about 1 hour directly north of LA (on the 101), and about a half hour south of Ventura. I'd need about two weeks notice before I held one there.

For reference, if you guys wanna check mapquest or some junk to see how far it is from your place, you can go ahead and use this address:

1588 Longridge Ct.
Thousand Oaks, CA 91360

This weekend me and the rest of the SB crew plan to iron out the details on how/when we would want things to go down, and I will post it here and in the tourney event forum when such a plan is formulated.

Also, those of you able to host tournies, or those who have friends that might be able to... or shit, even just host a big casual gaming party thing, post in here about where you'd be able to do it.

For now though, what do people think of Thousand Oaks? I figure we can try some different places out till we find a spot that's good for the largest percentage of the SoCal scene.

On one last note, I read in one of these threads (maybe this one? I don't remember) that there was a pretty strong #R scene up in Davis. Maybe we could issue some sort of challenge, and try to put together a team tourney or something. We could send like, 4-5 SoCal teams and try to take out theirs. Anyone else game? unf unf!

EDIT: heh, looks like SHiFT here had the same thing in mind, at the same time. You know what they say... Great minds play great Johnnys. :badboy:

Dont forget about me...I want some Venom vs Venom matches haha, I'll show my true power this time ha. I'm planning on trying to make TS5 not just for Reload but other games as well. The drive wouldn't be so bad for me since I've driven a lot farther for Garou gatherings ha. More than likely I'll end up carpooling with the rest of the Lancaster players in my car. If you need any help with the bracket or what not Render I'll help out if you need it. Unless Dash will be there since he's the pro at it ha...but I'll see what I can help out with. We should probably do like a pot luck thing for food...or just have a big food run.

I'd be willing to bring a TV if needed...I can also bring my xbox or what not. I would love to be part of that Team Challenge idea you mentioned Render. I'm not that great yet though ha...I still need a lot of work on Venom. Maybe we should do like a Team Venom how about it Shift and Definitely ? Alright guys like Shift said lets keep the Reload scene alive in Cali. Take care.

Can we leave the unconstructive trash-talking for PMs or something? Let's try to stay on topic so we don't kill this thread instead of helping it along.

I personally think another small-scale tourney would be good. Where's the incentive to improve and win if there's nothing on the line? And seriously... $5? That's like nothing. If you have a job, you can make that in technically less than an hour. If you have a parent, you probably know where they keep their wallet(s).

version b of Def1n1tely's vid is set to "Wolf and Raven" by Sonata Arctica. They're one of the many insane metal bands that don't just scream like demons into the mic. A gathering Saturday. Interesting. Now I just gotta get that day off. I didn't want to drone on about details, so I cut the explanation short. My work requires me to ask a day off by at least 12 noon of Tuesday in the week before the day off is to be. I'll try my best to get it off. Hopefully score a switch with someone else. Worst case senario, I call in sick. But that doesn't really look so good, so if you are able to move it back to the 12th (the following Saturday) then that'd give me ample time. I really don't want to be a hinderance on anyone else, though. So you wont hear any complaining should you keep the original date.

Render - I like your anime tastes. Heheh. And from what it seems, your music tastes, too. That "Wolf and Raven" song rocked so hard! That's pretty much my favorite kind of metal. If I can't find some torrents for them I'll be sure to bring some blank cds over to Thousand Oaks.

Def- Those guys at GCC better like it! Cause I mean no BS when I say this, that was a really damn good Millia. I was truly impressed.

Shift- My friends have been telling me you have an insane Eddie. Your gonna have to show me some tricks since I'm toying around with him right now, and seriously considering picking him up.

render
01-26-2005, 09:59 AM
Actually, the 6th is my sister's birthday, so maybe pushing it back a week would be better. As it stands, shift wouldn't be able to make it to a February 5th gathering anyway. The only qualm I have with doing so is those that plan on attending the SBO qualifiers would end up with two weekends of a lot of driving. I'm still debating whether or not I want to go. How would you guys feel about moving it to the 12th? So far that would better accomodate Robo, Pignutz, and shift, which is already a fair number.

Def - You probably mean Sol's bandit revolver, but you can throw him out of the bringer, too. You just have to know when it usually comes - generally after a sweep. You do it after blocking the first hit, cuz there's a little window in there to hop up and snag him. If you instant block the first hit it'll give you even more time. It's not exclusive to Johnny, I don't think. I've done it with Ky plenty of times. Another thing kevin is really good at reading is Johnny's divine blade... which again you just have to anticipate what move it's gonna come after. It often follows 5H or 6H.

And holy crap, man, you have to explain to Tim and I how to option select air throws. We kinda get how you do it, but like, what is the input exactly? How fast do you have to do it?

Robo sol - I'll just bring my whole folder of stuff. I've got a ton of vids (in addition to the music) and you and the rest of the Lancaster crew can pick which ones they want.

Ok, so how's the 12th sound, everyone? Is that too close to SBO qualifiers?

Shift- My friends have been telling me you have an insane Eddie. Your gonna have to show me some tricks since I'm toying around with him right now, and seriously considering picking him up.

haha, well, I certainly appreciate the compliment, but I think the only reason I can win with Eddie is because he's really easy to rush ppl down like hell with, and it's really easy to get confused on where to block.. (I should know.. freakin ruin owned me for free with him at my first tourney - plz don't dl the video haha) =] I actually don't know his really damaging setups/combos and stuff, he's just super fun to play and tank with.. goddamn drill is annoying as hell... =] I'd love to play him against you though and try to help out.. what we both really need is to have id or ruin teach us lol.. those fools have got him down. I too am still considering pickin him up.. he's too good to pass up =D I have a feeling whoever goes to SBO is gonna be facin him a lot, I heard there were like 14 Eddie's used in the Japan qualifiers.. @_@

Robo Sol
01-26-2005, 10:15 PM
Shift - Yeah. If ID or Ruin showed up I'd definitely have a notebook ready, hahah. I learned a lot when ID was teaching me some hints about Sol. And I just got a stick so I'm getting used to that AND Eddie.

Render - If you have a computer at hand with all that information I'll can have Zephyr bring his External Hard Drive. He wouldn't be able to play though. He's on the road to recovery after just cutting his thumb, had to get stitches for it and all.

Def - Thanks for the music links. Had quite the time listening to them. And what's Render talking about? Option select?

Sir Phobos
01-26-2005, 10:45 PM
Option select?Hey, I'm not Def, but I thought I could help. Option select airthrows are a safe method of attempting an airthrow on a jumping opponent. Basically, while you are airborne, hold back on the stick/pad, and with two fingers, hit HS, and then S quickly afterward (while still holding HS). This cancels your character's jumping HS with faultless defense before it even comes out. So if you are able to airthrow your opponent, an airthrow should come out if you are holding back on the stick. If you can't because you are too far from them in the air or whatever, you will use faultless defense in the air.

Render: I'm surprised you didn't know about option select air throws, you are already too good without them!!

Def1n1tely
01-26-2005, 10:52 PM
my friend, selfscience taught me how to do this.. but to do a throw option select.. you jump, and hold back.. then tap and hold hs, then immediately press s. so you're basically just quickly strumming with hs to s. the way i do it is.. i use my middle finger for the hs, and then my index for s. what happens is you're doing a hs.. but immediately cancelling to a fd. so if you're opponent is around the range, they're gonna get air thrown. if they're not then you're just fding. you wont leave yourself open, whiffing a hs in the air. you can keep your air mobility also.. (double jump, or air dash), if you attempt to air throw with the option select. if you get really good.. and you get it in you're habit.. every time you jump in the air you should be doing this. and you keep doing it while you're in the air. so basically you jump hold back.. hold hs.. tap s.. release.. repeat about 2 or 3 times.. before landing on the floor. thats 3 air throw attempts you just did in one jump!

i know a couple of US players that do this. im sure ID and cblue knows about it. but most of the japanese players i see.. do this. especially kaqn.. comes into my mind. everytime he jumps.. you'll see a flash of green from the fd. or sometimes you'll see characters doing combos in midair... and then all of a sudden they just start fding over and over.. thats cuz they're attempt to throw out of a burst. u don't need to option select all the time though since some characters already have a good hs. like slayer. or millia .. since its 3 hits. when im trying to keep someone in the corner and they're trying to jump or air dash out.. you dont need to option select since if they get hit or block the hs.. they'll end up in the corner anyways. also keep in mind that all option select are backwards throws. so chars like faust and johnny really benefit from this since they throw forwards (back in to the corner) when they do backwards throw. but chars like slayer or sol dont really matter.

also option select works on the ground too. not sure if it works w/ all characters.. but i know it works with millia. when your running and you wanna do instant stop.. just option select it. that way.. if your run at slayer and he does a mappa.. if you option select and time it right.. you can throw him out of it. if you mess up then you're just instant blocking..

wow.. ok ..sorry for the long post.. but i hope that helps.. and i hope u guys understood me lol. i tried my best to explain from my stupid typing.

EDIT:: wow ok... i just saw matt's post above me and he just explained the whole thing.. lol.. that foolio is hella good at option selecting. fuckin air throws me all the time.

Kuro - If you're willing to put on the show, then I'm pretty sure people would be willing to drive out there. Start talking about dates and a more specific location and people will respond better to the prospect of a gathering/tourney. A tourney at a park would be a little odd, though, unless it's enclosed somehow. And not cold as hell.

Ok, well, forget the park. It doesn't have outlets like all other parks in existence  . Plus, the whole weather thing is seriously killing any outdoor possibilities. So I was thinking that maybe I could rent out like a hotel club house or something, and host it there. One of my buds roomie's lives there, and it'll be done by about mid-March. If I could find an official date, I could ordain something as soon as this weekend. But that's all pending because of the weather. Another option, since I still live with my parents, I could possibly ask them if I could use the house for about 8-12 hours for the tourny. As long as everyone helps me clean up afterwards(black moms are neat freaks), we could do like Little Caesars for food and crap. What do you guys think?

P.S.: What kind of head count could I expect for this?

render
02-23-2005, 02:17 AM
I think an outdoor tournament is a bad idea. Getting a conference hall at a hotel room would be FREAKING AWESOME, but would probably require not only a reservation, but some sort of rental fee. I can't imagine they let people hold events in those rooms for free. If you can hook us up with an awesome club house at a hotel, though, that would be rad. I don't expect anyone would want to spend the cash to stay in a room there, though. That stuff gets pricey.

Barring that, I think the best option is to just offer up your house for the day.

Could you put up an address or something so people can stick it into a map-finder and see just how far away Norco is? If it's central to a large portion of the community then I'm all for it. If not then I don't see why we don't host a gathering/tournament at a more central location.

I don't think there will be a problem with people cleaning up. Everyone that attended the tourney I hosted was incredibly tidy (though my mom did help quite a bit). All you have to do is make trash-cans easily accessible and prominently placed, and remind people where to throw stuff out and things will be fine.

As far as food goes, Domino's has this medium-pizzas-for-$5-each deal that worked out really well. We ordered like twelve and it only came out to like $6 per person, and everyone got their own pizza.

Anyway, that's my input. Hope it helps. I think I might be able to put my house up again for a tourney in either late March or early April, for those that are interested.

Like I said, I'm pretty damn sure I can get a reservation at my bud's clubhouse that's up and coming mid-March. It only costs like $35 for the whole day. Also, here's an address so you guys can see how far Norco is:

Not only can we hold about 15-20 people, but we can be there until the uber-wee hours of the morning. Food and spills wouldn't be an issue either  . Thoughts?

Edit: A thought had just occured to me, are we going to be recording any of these matches? If we did I would need someone with a camera or something though.

Kuro - Man, worry about getting the tourney happening before you start even thinking about recording matches. I think most people would rather go to a smoothly-run tourney with no match footage than a crappy one that had the matches recorded. I know I would.
Also, I think it'd be better to run the tourney in something a little bigger than a hotel room... in my experience, hotel rooms get pretty expensive when they get big enough to host, say, 15+ people.

acggod - I'm sure there are some, they're just being lazy and won't speak up. =/

If you make the tourney entry fee like $2 more and use that extra cash to pay for the place, that might work out alright. I'd be amicable to a slightly higher fee for the chance to play in some awesome club house...

Yeah dude. Let's get this one on the road! Aw, man, I'd really be up for holding a tourney in my place, but it would probably be set random when my mom and step dad aren't here. I mean, big screen TV #R!! It could happen, some day, but for now, I guess I'm going to travel for teh tournies. I'd be up to pay a little extra for a tourney fee. Not too stingy when it comes to cash.

Edit: Btw, think it'd be possible to slate this tourney on a Saturday? Even though the only ones I've been to are on Saturdays... that makes it all the better. Weekend tournies are own.

Ok, I've decided to change things up a bit. My friend just recently notified me that the clubhouse will not be done until April because of the weather here in the recent weeks. That changes things a little bit, but also opens up another window; I could have it closer to everyone. Now, I need anyone who thinks they can go to pretty much give me their location, so one, I can get a head count, and two, so I can find a place much more towards the apex of where we all live. I wanna do this so it won't be too much of a hassle.

The major areas, as far as I know, are Lancaster, Riverside, LA (this one includes like, 40% of the SoCal players), Santa Barbara, wherever-Jo-and-Sir-Phobos-live-cuz-I-can't-remember, Irvine, and like... Oceanside. There's also NorCal, and right now their scene isn't exactly thriving, so they have been coming down to SoCal tournies lately. I think if you want to hold one central to all of them (let's disclude NorCal, cuz that's just not really possible) you'd have to hold it somewhere in North LA county, or somewhere in the San Fernando Valley.

I may be able to host one in Thousand Oaks again in the beginning of April or right at the end of March. I'll keep everyone posted.

Alright guys, here's how things are lookin':

I hope to be able to host a small gathering on the 26th of this month. That's two weeks from tomorrow (the 12th). It will be "held" at my place in Thousand Oaks again. I will post a thread in the events forum with more details. Any and all are welcome. There is no entrance fee or anything, it will be strictly a casual gathering.

Two weeks from THAT, I hope to host another tournament similar to the one held last month. That would be April 9th. Who's down? I will post on here one more time before it's totally official, and once I get the go-ahead I will post a thread in the tourney/events forum.

Practice up, hombres, cuz SB crew is gonna take you to school.

I don't want the gathering to be too large-scale. If you can only make one trip out, I would suggest hitting up the tourney. The gathering will be loose, and isn't going to be for all day. Maybe just a few hours. Any who wanna come are welcome. I will have a date finalized soon.

Jo - Yeah, I'll help you out with tapes and recording and crap. I'll see if I can't figure out those jacked-up VCRs of mine. It'd be great if we could get every single vid up. (apparently the vids have rekindled the country's respect for the SoCal scene)

Alright, the gathering is a go for March 26th. I'm not gonna put up a thread in the events forum, cuz I don't want it to get too huge. But for those of you that want to come, please do - and bring whoever you can. If you have a TV and/or PS2, it might be a good idea to bring them. I don't think we'll need more than 2-3 total, and I've already got 2 TVs (and presumably, 2 PS2s).

I will, however, post in the thread at RC.com. I will also put up directions there, so once I put the thread up I'll link to it in here. Please refer to that thread for times, directions, and uhh.. regulations? haha. Hope to see you guys there!

Good games to all. Sorry I can't make it to the tourny, but I can make pretty much any gathering after that. One question though: is anybody here going to Anime Expo? If not, wpuld be interested in going?; If so, would be interested in going with my group. I mentioned this to render and Vormav actually, I can get a hotel room with Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Holiday Inn & Suites(any hotel on the Choice Hotel chain) for $25 a night. If you were to pre-register for AX before June 15, I can get you all four days for $40. The reason I ask is because they have a GGXX tourny over there. So anybody who's interested get back to me.

On a second note, I got quite a bit of fun out of this. Vormav's Dizzy....it gives me a reason to hate her. Having to deal with Jo, render, and Shift all as Johnny was not an easy feat :wow: . I'm surprised I even got wins against them, heh. Def's Millia I couldn't even keep up with, but it was all good, I got my ass okiseme'd in style. BUMP!

We need to start planning where to hold the next tournament. Carey? What's the deal with that hotel idea? Do you have to hold it at the one you work at? or could it be any one in your chain? If the latter is the case, then we should find one that's optimal distance from most people. If not, then, that's cool too. :D

There's talk of a possible tournament in Lancaster, which I'd be down for. I vote (for entirely selfish reasons) that it NOT happen on the weekend of May 1st. Beyond that, a tourney there would be slick.

There's also the possibility of the RiCo tourney being rescheduled. Any word on that? Anyone heard anything?

Also, what are the dates for the AX tourney? I might drop in for that day just to browse around the convention while I'm not at the tourney.

Hasegawa Kazuma

I heard that tourney in RiCo was going to be changed up. I don't know when, but Phobos is going to be running the #R side like last time. Other than that, I have no idea what's going down. For Lancaster, I'd be up for it since it's closer than Thousand Oaks (by about 20 miles or so) so it shouldn't be too much of a problem for me. I'd be up for that if anyone is willing to throw up a tourney. So yeah, what's goin' on guys? I was about to bump but render beat me to it. Too good, man. You're always ahead of things.

Kuro Fuugetsu

Alright, it looks like any hotel in chain that I work for (Choice Hotels) will honor my employee discount, contrary to what my managers are saying  . So a possible tourney may be held at one of the the locations central to every one. If I'm lucky, maybe I could drag the SB crew down there so RyuKnight's not the only one sporting the fan man. But yes, the hotel idea is a go render, I just gotta find a day off.

Also, the tourney at AX held for GGXX#R is usually on the Saturday of that weekend. If the day changes I'll let you know. I'm all for a RiCo tourny as well, since it wouldn't be but a walk from where I live, so just let me know.

Well, that's pretty much it for now, unless any of you wanted to attend AX or help plan the hotel tourney. Also, it would seriously be better for me to do this thing in May since our Choice rooms are being used quite frequently now, so it would be little bit more than ass cheap (15-20 dollars more). Ok, well anyway, enough of my rambling, start coming up with ideas, dates, and all of that other jazz.

Nocturnal was throwing some ideas up in the air about having the next tournament at his place, so I either think you should ALL come out to Lancaster again or we do something with Kuro's idea with the 25 dollar hotel room!

Plus if anyone has a long drive we got enough of Lancaster crew to house a few people who wanna stay the night.

SO I say THIS month as in April we could host another Tournament if Jaime is up for it. Then next month in May we can host a tournament at one of the hotels Kuro can get us.

Also sicne everyone has a real long drive from Northern Cali and more people North are expressing an interest it means that Lancaster is about an hour closer then TO or wherever else. OF course people down south (sorry purrin!) gotta drive further.

I'm all for going to a tourny this month, just not hosting one. If it means coming out to LC again, sure, but not too much further north since my wallet is starting to scream at me(which will immediately cease this Friday[payday] ). Anyway, if Jamie wants hold another tourny, I'm in.

Hey Cali...

Speaking of tourneys and drives - how about one in AZ?

I am hosting a big tourney in May and thought I would drop our neighbors (..well...sorta) a line and an open invite.

I have already hit up Vegas and it seems that a few of them will make the trek as well..

From the registrations so far it seems like a good turnout but I am a greedy bastard and would like to be the guy that got all kinds of players together...eh.

Here is the link to the website for information and registration: http://www.thetemplearcade.com/.

If you are worried about a place to stay I think we have that covered for you - the drive (or flight) is all you though - heh...

I will tell you guys that there will be more there (prizes, etc.) than just the entry money listed - I am only telling you and the other long ways off guys because you may need more incentive (to make the trip) than the players that just live here...

So, check it out and let me know if you have any questions etc.

Should you want, here is a link to the tourney thread: http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2285317#post2285317

Maybe Blitz and I need to go roading and hit up that tourny. Who knows we might even be able to visit Gasaraki or something while we're up there. Oh also, since I'm at work right now until about 7, I'm going to see what I can do about reserving a Choice room - Kuro.

Edit-I'm going to go ahead and post a set of addresses and tell me if the distance is feasible or not.

888 E. Dominguez St

Kuro - Those are all approx. 2 hrs away from SB, so they're pretty much all the same to us.

Alright, so in the coming months we have several tournaments in the works:

Possible Lancaster tourney - ??
Kuro's tourney - ??
The Temple Arcade Inaugural (AZ) - May 28th
http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88101
East Coast Championships (NY?) - May 29th
Midwest Championships (Chicago) - June 24-26
http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79282
Arizona Challenge (AZ, duh) - July 2nd
http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87603
Anime Expo tournament (Anaheim) - July something

Am I forgetting any? Of course, we can organize more SoCal tournies beyond what's listed here, but.. for now I figured I'd list things so people had an idea of what's goin' down.

If timing and transportation allows, I will surely go to Lancaster and Kuro tournies.. I wanna to go the Temple one, since a caravan of SoCal players sounds pretty slick. I'd like to go to MWC, since it's pretty much the only major tourney before Evo, but I don't know if I can travel that far.

I am definetly going to The Temple Arcade Inagural tounrmanet in Arizona on May 28th. Seduce is gonna hook me up with a place to stay and so far its me and Jaime(who MIGHT go)but I am going for sure. If Render wants to hop on thats all cool with me.

AWESOME and thanks!...but you need to friggin register on the site...(I got brackets to seed, space to make, and times to work out...) So, I have updated the tourney page with some links and crap to, hopefully, inspire you lazy asses to get up and register.

It is my hope that if people see who is registered I may get a two-fold reaction...

- Or, the people who are registered will give a ration of shit to those who have not yet and get them with the program :bgrin:

So...a reminder:

Those of you planning to attend the AZ tourney that play with a pad would do well to read this:
http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2343582&postcount=32

Looks like they won't allow button mapping at all, even if you use a pad.

This is also apparently the case for EVO, and I'm curious - what are you pad-users planning to do about it? Gonna switch to using a stick? I think many of the stick-users will agree that FRCs and such are actually much easier on sticks, but I'm sure tournament officials aren't willing to just take our word for it. *shrug*

Directly from the evo site... http://www.evo2k.com/rules.php

"Game Specific Rules

General Rules (apply to all tournaments)

No macro buttons allowed. This means you cannot assign special commands, throws, soul charge, roman cancel, burst, etc... to a 1 button input. However you are allowed to map the buttons to your liking, for example assign Left Kick to a pad shoulder button.

Bring your own controller (either pad or stick can be used).
If you pause the game at any time during a fight you will forfeit the round. "

The AZ tourney, in hopes to help gear everyone up for evo, are complying with evo rules. This is so we have an even playing field. if this is something that you feel you will need time to practice on... i would suggest showing up early and getting in some casual play.

I also agree on the no one button RC stuff. I mean that completly kills the point of having execution. It's like having a dash button with xvssf. All of a sudden, because of one button, people can do bad ass shit they hardly could do before, like dash infs with character like chun, storm, rogue, etc.

I mean, people practice execution for a reason, so say when it comes to tournaments, they don't mess up on something like pressing three buttons at the same time.

One more suggestion to help the people running the tourneys

BRING SOMETHING (Piece of paper) THAT HAS YOUR BUTTONS MAPPED OUT. Like

up
left right Circ Tri L1
down Square X L2

Everyone's stick is mapped differently, therefore a lot of configuration is necessary. For games like 3s, pressing the button will not change the mappings, you gotta move left and right for each button, unlike GGXX. So if you do this, it will be much easier, so please do so.

hmm, I'm gonna have to disagree with this.. (not that I'm biased or anything since I currently use a pad predominantly.. hehe =) at least from my own experience using a stick, I have found it to actually be much MUCH easier to nail my FRCs, probably because of the better response time of arcade quality buttons. I mean how many #R players feel they miss their FRCs most of the time because they don't hit all 3 buttons? I'm just guessing, but I would say most #R players would say when you practice your execution, you're practicing FRC timing, not hitting the buttons.. at least for this particular game, I don't think having FRC mapped gives the sort of advantage you're talking about, i.e. suddenly allowing a player of lesser skill to do amazing things.. I dunno, just my .02c, and I'm not asking for any changes to be made to the rules or anything since I plan on buying a quality stick and getting used to it before Evo anyway, but for everyone else who's gonna stick with a pad, this rule will really suck..

~shift~

TGC
05-06-2005, 01:49 PM
well hitting three buttons on GGXX is WAYYYY easier than on a game like xvssf. I'm just comparing the two, because on xvssf, hitting all three buttons isn't that easy. I can guarentee say 30 reps of rogue's dash inf with 1 button, but with 3 buttons i can do maybe 10 on a good day. It's different, and to make everything fair, have everyone play in a similar way. Not everyone has resources, like to play with a stick. But having to press three buttons regardless of what controller is fair.

I think many of the stick-users will agree that FRCs and such are actually much easier on sticks, but I'm sure tournament officials aren't willing to just take our word for it. *shrug*

Haha. I think shift better start 3 button RCing/FRCing it. Watch out, shift! :o
