Alright the game drops in two days. I'd like to hear other people's impressions of it when it comes out and possibly their online strategies, etc. I downloaded the online guide from somebody at Mkonline.com, so i have all the moves and combos already. did anybody see Zombie Liu Kang yet? man that dude looks scary. I'm surprised they would let the former MK champ go through that phaze.

Basically, its an adventure game whee you learn the fighting styles and interact with a lot of characters from MK History, by doing certain tasks, you earn koins to unlock the characters,backgrounds,costumes, etc in the Krypt.

I can't wait to play puzzle fighter and the chess game! They put so many extras in the game as well. Plus if you get the Kollectors Edition (Thats how they spell it) you get an arcade perfect version of MK 1.

I played a few games and its real smooth. Konquest mode is fun if you like unlocking shit.

Out of 6 games I've lost connection twice. One of them even counted as a drop on my part?! WTF. It's a nice change of pace from CvS2 though but I don't see myself playing too much of it. Also, does anyone else think that the 60 second rounds are a bit too short for this game?

Edit: OK now it says I've dropped three times when all that happened is I got the "Unable To Connect To Host" error. So I take it you can't differentiate normal players from dropping scrubs.

Stores are getting the Kollector's Edition tomorrow because of a mess-up on Midway's part. Supposively, they forgot to include the limited edition card with the game. At least, that's what I heard. All I know is that the GameStop store I work at got the regular edition in, but not the Kollector's Edition.

I'll be getting the Kollector's Edition tomorrow. I'm planning on unlocking as much stuff as possible before jumping online.

I thought the combo timing for DA was pretty damn strict already (especially the alternating stances combos). Maybe it was just the dual shock controller but pressing R1 multiple times in between juggles was hard

This game is amazing online! I have played 25 matches online and have been dropped twice. There is no lag to speak of. The AI on the game has been toned down some (which is a good thing!) My gamertag is aenima5983 on XBOX live.

right now I would say it's the best fighting game online period... There isn't lag from what i've seen and the worst case scenario is your connection drops out... I actually had someone drop on me when he died and it registered as a disconnect which is ok i guess. It's a great game online

It's Like Spf but slightly different the common general ideal of chains/breaking is the same
in stead of the spiral thingy like in puzzle fighter it's mk symbol color coded of course. and the diamonds in pf are a black ball.. and as ya get break/chains etc each char have different special move it may benefit themselves or fukk your world up it's pretty cool concept i mean it's not a pf clone no counter gems nor char pattern so i've noticed

I wish GGXX#R played this well online, but oh well I can still play that offline...anyways while I think the fighting engine for the most part isn't that good, I still have fun with this online. The people I have played have been really cool and I've learned a few things about this game which I both enjoy and dislike, but overall a pretty descent fighter. I don't think I would pay $50 for this tho', maybe when it goes down in price and I got the $ laying around.

But If I were to pick Baraka most of the time and take advantage of his long reach and deadly blade combos, like alot of the players on MKD online, I'd probably have a better ratio. My list of top tiers from the core 12 are: Baraka, Kobra, Ashrah, and Scorpion.

goddamn i suck at this fuckin game. we need the 2d MK fighters online. id gladly pay $50 for each of thse. i used to be a hardcore MK addict up until ultimate, then it just went to shit with 3d. i bought the xbox and the ps2 versions so i could play everyone online, but after playing it tonight for about 30 matches i think i may have made a big mistake. i dunno its just not that much fun. duck down and block, then counter, lather rinse repeat. that and baraka seems unstoppable. also it's a bitch for me to pull of regular special moves for some reason. screw 3d.

The characters in MKD are so much better than any other fighter. Their designs and stories are top notch and all the effort that went into the weapons, fighting styles, and alt costumes is awesome.

When you play online who's characters are unlocked? like if i unlock everyone and my opponent has noone, what gets used?

You can use any charcater that you have unlocked in the game so far. Same goes for your opponent. There are no restrictions to who you can choose. For instance, say your opponent unlocked Raiden, then he can play as him against you. If you havent unlocked any chartcaters yet then you have to choose from the core 12 and dont have the option to choose raiden.

Only played it a couple hours last night. Completely new to MK 3d style games.

Some thoughts - Konquest mode is pretty boring. Lots of run around and fetch quests, enter every building for koins, crap like that. I'm in Netherworld now. Anyway, characters who I assume you can unlock if you beat that I have seen so far: Sindel and Kira(Kina?). Both were pretty hard, especially Sindel with the half life and bleeding crap. I don't even know what the hell I'm doing let alone half life bleeding.

Anyway, after that boredom I went to practice mode and picked the uber cool Darrius (look, bio, everything) and tried to see what he had. Figured out his special moves and like one weapon combo. Took that online and got mauled 1-2. Still have no clue what I'm doing so its all good. Blocking button is hella awkward, so is general movement / flow so far.

I don't see whats so good about Hotaru. I guess it is hard to break his combos since he hardly has any..and most of them Launch.

I mainly use Darrius, Liu Kang, Scorp, Sub, Kabal, Kenshi, and Nightwolf.

Hotaru's only two special moves are kinda weak. The lava explosion only hits your opponent if he's far away and the chain kick is too slow. He doesnt have many combos either.

Anyone playing konquest can help me? Ive just trained with scorp in nether and went to unlock puzzle fighter mileena. In order to do so, i had to go through a main gate (literally, gate was down). I got the treasure and tried to go through again... only this time, i was stuck behind the gate and couldnt go "through". Is this supposed to happen?

It aint as colorful or as rich and vibrant as SPF, and I miss the sound effects...but it retain that classic SPF gameplay(for the most part), and that's good enough for me. I'm still trying to figure out what you do with your super meter. Anybody know?

Just played online for the first time on ps2. Very fun. Went 1-1 with a player named ThunderGD or some kind of variation of that and went 2-1 in Puzzle Kombat against a player named Jayson. Good games.

"Shaolin Monks" is supposed to be a MK spinoff adventure game like MK mythologies was, and from what I hear, takes place during the MK2 era. I'll be getting it. MK7 is also being developed at the same time for PS3 and xbox2.

random glitches ive found/noticed:

1.if u do a fatality before it says fatality the game will go crazy and freeze and your xbox will make a crazy sound like its gonna blow up

2. nightwolf has a random glitch where if he throws u and then does something specific it makes the other person invincible to anything but hp (fucking random)

3. this was a 1 time thing and i dunno wtf happened.. but i was doing sub zero style change combo on someone on the beach stage with their back up against a palm tree and when i got to the 2nd part nothing came out and i was like wtf.. and then i noticed that i couldnt move and i couldnt press anything.. not even start.. so i thought the game froze.. then the other guy starts actually attacking and shit and heres the wierd part.. everything was going through me.. completely invincible.. and the time had stopped.. he was able to quit out tho.. ya that one was really fucking random

Hotaru has scorpions top tier ass stance from fucking da. Pai gua or whatever. You can get a sick high/low/throw mixup with him on wakeups.

Just playing around in practice mode w/ Liu Kang and noticed he has a pretty easy (without lag anyway) 6-hit combo that does 40% damage :confused:. Dairou's got an easy 39%, and the uber simple 3 hit 32%'er. Any other characters have stuff like that? Haven't spent much time trying.

Aight, picked the game up from GameCrazy (best job in the world, discounts rock) and I pretty much have made my decision that this game fscking rocks. Many people have complained that the game will eventually boil down to a pattern of duck, counter, and repeat, but for anybody who's actually trying to beat ass there are many more real options out there. I guess I get down to specifics:

Control: Spot fucking on. If you press a button too many times you'll fuck up your combo. Every fighting style (from the styles that are actually used in realy combat) look authentic(sp) and all seem to have weak and strong points. The specail moves all have various uses in the game and, all in all, there are no complaints here however...

Single Player: Konquest mode fucking sucks. PERIOD. Don't give me any bull shit about how there's shit to find and it's exciting and how there's a story line. No, it all boils down to a damn tutorial(sp) and an extended way for people to find the damn characters. And I really, really, hate that, because if they spent more time makeing this more fun the games would have been so much better. The krypt however is very entertaining(sp). It feels rewarding to have to go through the bull shit Konquest and get to unlock tons of cool shit that are actually exclusive to the game.

Gameplay: The fighting is great. Really, I could spend a few hours playing through Arcade mode to get the various endings. Puzzle Kombat and Kombat Chess are actually full games, not just tacked on mini-games. Both of which are fun ass hell and will keep you griped for hours. The only game I've played that's as addicting as PK has to be Tetris, and tetris doesn't have cool ending moves or graphic fatalities. KC is interesting because you can actually set traps and cast spells to use on your opponent. Basicly it's chess for people who hate chess. All this stuff though amounts to one fucking thing...

Multi-play: EVERYTHING IS ONLINE AND DOESN'T LAG. Honestly, that's where it's at. As a hardcore fighing gamer, I get pissed as fuck when I'm playing GGXX or CvS online and there's delay. But MKD is smooth like butter. Obvisiously(sp) X-Box gets live play so it'll be sightly better on the box but PS2 gamers luckly get the addition of it being broadband only, so rock on there.

Graphics: Blood is beautiful. I'd do every girl in this game. And the fucking stages are awesome. However KONQUEST MODE LOOKS LIKE CRAP. I mean really, how bad does a character model have to look so that you'll clean some shit up. Damn.

Other: Camera is standard fighting fare. The only real addition I have is this: HOW COME THERE ARE NO "C" ANYWHERE IN THIS GAMES. I know it's "Mortal Kombat" but seriously "the kyrpt, konquest, puzzle kombat, kombat chess," why? It trips me up when I'm typing it's so fucking annoying.

Overall I'd give it an 9/10, because the game is fucking great, but in order to get all the crap, you have to play komqest mode to get the locked krypts.

when i first played mkd, the controls still felt damned stiff but i can blame tekken for giving fluid controls all these years for spotting that flaw. Once i got used to the rigid controls and getting random disconnects online for about 30 mins (20 mins spent looking for games) i finally played a full game. It was damned fun. Best online game, at least performance wise. Even though my tight matches came down to who crouched and who threw, it was still disturbingly fun.

Even when i was done fighting i still spent hours just playing puzzle and losing a ton. This is the only online game i played so far that cant piss anyone off. If you lost then you just got outplayed. Plain and simple. Thats why it owns. No sore loserness, cheap tactics or bitter feelings after each match kept this game fun. I know there are mk haters around here but i think puzzle fighter justifies a purchase alone. Its that damned good!

-in falling cliffs arena, while we fought near the edge, sometimes one guy would randomly float in the air OUT OF BOUNDS and not fall to their bloody death
-im not sure how this really happens but this is what it looks like. One guy starts a string and the other guy jumps. the jumper will cross the fighter doing the string and would take the all the hits in the air when theyre not even facing.
-i mashed out kobras hara kiri without knowing the command =\
-they killed chess. CK is NOTHING LIKE IT so dont get your hopes up for ppl that dont have it already. Frankly id be playing it alot more had "klassic chess" been available

This really goes out to people who respect the art of throwing, and have no problems with defending against it while playing online.

I'm reading and arguing at Ign now, and I'd like to read from players here... is there a problem with throwing in this game?

I mean, in CVS2, we don't consider throwing to be an "exploit"
because it can easily be prevented if you're awake and wise.
But there are some people that feel throwing in MK:D is cheap... that it is sooooo easy to pull off without being punished that it then becomes classified as an exploit when players do it excessively.

Is this true, or are they whining without legit cause?

Throwing is easily evaded and punished in this game. Can it be thrown into high/low mixups... yes. But I definately wouldn't call it an exploit.

Good to have a thread where people are talking not only about the game, but also how good it is. I haven't unlocked all the charaters, and I haven't played anyone in it yet(until tomorrow, tourney in Bloomington Indiana), but for the characters that I have unlocked, I think Noob/Smoke is pretty cheap and hella good. Is it me or is there zero lag time after doing the Teleport behind punch move?? And doesn't Kobra have that same move?? That is sick, thats like a free move. Plus they have juggling combos, particularly Smoke, and Noob has some cheap shit in the corner. I can do a 50% combo with Smoke on point. And there's a 53% combo with Noob in the corner. 61% possible if the player doesn't roll. Kenshi is a juggling freak, too bad he's a little slow, and the damage, u gotta work to get it. He's waaaaaay better in Deadly Alliance. He's my top person in Deadly Alliance, but he's changed a bit here, I think he is just okay. Lots and lots of juggles. I like Kobra, descent enough damage, not a lot of work, has a lot of moves, not the quickest, but quick enough. U + kick, zero lag. Nightwolf is descent. Nice juggles. Ermac is okay. Just unlocked Jade, and another female fighter. Haven't tested them yet.

Computer does cheap combos that aren't possible. Thats cool though, always love a tough cheap AI. I can't wait till the tourney tomorrow to actually play people. I don't have a CPU (at home) so I can't play anybody for now, but hopefully someone at the tourney will have it online, and maybe I can get some matches with ya'll. Noob/Smoke my new favorite(s)

Well well, I can't believe it. Finally peeps are giving this game its props! I always found this game to be very fun, especially online due to zero to minimal lag. I have learned to apply Streetfighter tactics to this game by playing footsies and letting loose with speacial attacks and going in for mad rush downs, espeacially with Mileena. I thought she was weak at first until this guy named Lt. Rikki worked my ass 23 to 4 with her. I learned his style and added my own flavor ala-Streetfighter with pokes and footsies and now many a player has dopped me and/or shouted obscenities at me. Last night I had some very good opponents who were deadly with Scorpion. I usually bring in Noob-Smoke to devistate Scorpion players but I tried my luck with Mileena and my tactics frustrated this one player into dropping me! :clap: !!

If you stick to her second style Mileena has a ton of options and combos, her crouching game is very safe and if your opponent is conerered you can poke the hell out of them with d+1 coupled with d+4. Her rolling thunder should not be abused but not overlooked either, I bust that shit out when they least expect it. The reason you want to stay in this style is because her first style is very weak as far as damage is concerned but its easy to catch players up in her mind games. average damage in that first style is 16%. Her second style averages between 24-31% and its easy to force players to use breakers with her mix ups :tup: . It's fun to suprise players with Mileena since they believe her to be a weak character. She seems to be the Ibuki of this game: Lots of combo options and mind games but low on damage, but lots of fun to play :pleased:

Indeed she is. She's one of my favorite characters, next to Baraka and Noob/Smoke. Speaking of Noob/Smoke, how many players out there has had the pleasure of playing with him? He was a bit tricky to learn at first, but soon, I pretty much got the hang of him, and he's now one of my star players.
I don't know if there's a thread for discussion of combos, but if anybody out there has developed their own combos for Noob/Smoke, please, let me know. Here's a few combos I've worked out for Noob/Smoke myself:

NOOB COMBOS:

- B+2,B+2, 2, 1, 3
- B+2,B+2, 2, 1, 1, CS

SMOKE COMBOS:

- Stinky Cloud, Smokeycut, Smokeycut, 1, 2 , 4, CS, 1
- Stinky Cloud, NoseBreaker, 1, 2, 4, CS, 1
- Stinky Cloud, SmokeyCut, Dark Assasin

Anybody know anymore tricks with this team that I should be aware of?

Is it possible online to own practically everyone by doing stuff like BRC's puke infinite and Shujinko's 70-80% combos? I rented the game a while back, and I saw some videos, and all I have to say is there are some seriously overpowered combos. The worst of all is Shujinko's 87% juggle combo. So I wanna know if it's possible to own everyone by doing Bo infinites, Shujinko high-damage combos, etc.?

I think it's highly possible to own newbies to this game. On the other hand, u might also be owned by those who noe how to execute the same kombos. In the end, Practice makes better. One question, where did u get the videos that show these kind of kombos?
