yesterday I was just passing by 2000+ and tried playing one game of mvc2, but damn I feel bad for scrub killing this random student.
I had to make a decision, either I keep beating him every round and make him loose more money, or beat him pretty badly so that he stops challenging me. I chose option #2 and beat that poor guy perfect, he immediately moved his stuff over to the cvs2 cabinets :badboy: :devil:

They were fixing the left cvs2 second player stick when I was there yesterday. But idk about 3s. I wouldnt be suprised if someone breaks the stick for cvs2 today :tdown:

As far as CvS2 goes, it's the same as it always is. The furthest to the left cabinet works fine but the other one has problems.

Oh and yesterday I decided to play some 3S at 2000+ and both sides were busted, the repair guy was there... he opened up the machine and "fixed" it. A few games after the machine got fixed it broke again, the second side light kick doesn't work so that means no tech grabs or grabs for that player. The first player stick is busted, doesn't work properly.

Still didn't stop me from getting 37 wins though. :badboy:

I had applyed in computer sciences but dropped out 2weeks into the semester upon realising how dismal and sullen the school was.
There was just never any fun to be had!!! :tdown:
On an unrelated note, you wouldn't know any student or teacher in computer pragramming who would need/want "Introduction to Java programming" would you?
If memory serves, I think its price is in the 120$ range or thereabout, but I'll readily sell it for 50$ as it is just a burden to me.
In my current financial state, I sure could use a little bit of extra money. I don't expect you to commit yourself to finding someone interested in my book but if you ever come across someone who is PLEASE let me know.
By the way, I also play MVC2 but only on an on-and-off basis now because nearly everyone (if not everyone) has stopped playing it.

There is absolutely nooooo talent/deftness/precision involved in rotating the stick half a circle backward + QP to load up the swords and rapidly pressing QP + assist to empty them and bring in your assist and in that respect she's arguably the character with the shallowest learning curve

Being a character that's hard to win with doesn't automaticly translate into being a complex one. IMO, Spiral should not even be a top tier character given the small amount of time it takes to master her. It's infinitely more difficult learn to dash with precision, do the infinite with magneto or to do a fly/unfly combo with sentinel than to rotate the stick halfway backwards and hit QP with spiral.
What makes it difficult for her to win against the other top tier characters is her low adaptability level.
Spiral is a one-trick pony.
There aren't 1000 different ways of playing with her, her main gameplan merely consists of fending off the oponent and chiping his/her lifebar away. Once your oponent can getting around that you're pretty much helpless.
This is best exemplified by the noticable decrease in the number of Cable users. People have not ceased to play with cable because he is difficult to play with, but because they've found some many counters for him that his effectiveness has been reduced to an extremely low level.

What makes spiral hard to play isn't good coordination with the stick per se, but mind games.

1. keeping the opponent away. This is anticipation/training your opponent to do what you want him to do. And at the speed mvc2 goes, it's hard.
2. precise knife positioning can shut down characters well, but is hard to do, and mashing is definetely NOT compatiible with it.
3. being quick enough to do damage if your hit connects. Pretty hard if your opponent is in the air.

Spiral has the tools to be top tier for sure, you just need to work a bit harder to win. Same with Cyke.

on Saturday October 30..This IS the Official Date

This tournament will be organized by Wildestroya and Karamba at
"The 2000 Amusement Arcade" on St. Catherine Street, corner of Crescent. 1381 St. Catherine Ouest (Between metro guy and Peel)

A TECHNICIAN WILL BE THERE TO MAKE SURE ALL THE MACHINES ARE OK .

The tournament will take place in 3 or 4 different games (If

there is enough people for GGX).

The tournament will be in: - CAPCOM VS SNK 2
- STREET FIGHTER 3(THIRD STRIKE)
- MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2
- GGX

TOURNAMENT FEES: - 5$ FOR INSCRIPTION + 2 COINS PER GAME.

The tournament will start at 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. to past 12:00 a.m.


SUGGESTIONS

-TEAM TOURNAMENT for cvs2(2$ FOR INSCRIPTION + 2 COINS PER GAME)

-We want the words of everybody so dont be shy to send us (Wildestroya or Karamba)your answers, questions or suggestions.

DAY 1: One of the most craziest day

Well I woke up at 8 am I dont know hy but I couldnt sleep I tought my flight was at 11 but when i check again it was at 10:05
lucky me It was a good thing.I arrive at the airport everything is cool I board on the airplane and I arrive at Philadelphia at 12:35 and the boarding is at 13:30 so i got time to go eat something.I go to that pizza restaurant and theres that stupid nigga that think he can do multitask omg this guy is so gay anyway I ask him a plate of Spaghetti with meatballs he give me a fucking tiny plate with one meatball and on the sign it says meatballS yes thats right so after he ask me what kind of sauce i want im like err... tomato sauce ?? Is there any other sauce u can put on a spaghetti?I guess not and this cost me like fucking 8$ for so little... so now im trying to find a place where to eat no place its all pack so I have to wait after 5 mins i found a place so im like cool.Im starting to eat when i found out that it wasnt tomato sauce it was a fucking spicy sauce and for those who knows me i hate spicy things so im going back to change my plate and this fucking guy said he cant im like wtf why u gave me the wrong sauce i just want u to give me another fucking plate he doesnt want to because i already took a bit or some shit like that and he s saying its the policy im like wtf this is so fucking gay so im mad and its like 12:45 im like fuck that i throw the shit in the garbage and I go buy some fucking Doritos..Never Never buy food at the airport thats one tip.Aight now i go sit at gate C13 waiting...and they announce that my flight got delayed till 2:30 wtf is that shit...w/e.I arrive at Cleveland around 4:05 and I met Skisonic.He says he lives in Oberlin College im like hmm k and i ask him if he has any plan for tonight he says yeah we are going to a party around 10 pm.
So we arrive at he s room its really small.We go eat at the cafetaria its like a damn buffet and its really good ^^ he present me to one of he s friend then we go back to his room go play some Vampire Savior.Around 8 pm we go to he s friends house cuz he wanted to smoke some weed Im like cool as we are travelling through Oberlin College we see a that building with light glowing and and a fire alarm im like holy shit wtf is this
and Ski says dont worry its nothing its a fire drill im like hmm k whatever we continue then we arrive at my he s friend he meet us outside and we see some security with a Chrono im like hmm we were about to enter the building but then again we see light glowing and a fire alarm the security start pressing the chrono we wait and about 15 mins later people start getting out of the building called Fireland..the security guy is like wtf guys what happen if theres a real fire..and start giving a fucking speech for about 10 mins nobody listen to him but whatever we finally get to he s friend room they start smoking weed in a Bong (for those who doesnt know what it is its like a Sheesha )after that we start playing Vampire Savior again...Anyway time to go the party its halloween party (im like err its only the first week of october weird people...)Its 3$ entry fee and 2$ if u have a costume and on that day i was all in black so i enter in for 2 $
in the middle of the building theres one guy sit that look like Jesus and ask people who just entered if they wanna go to hell or Heaven.. He looks at me and he says Heaven im like fine i go upstairs nobody...I go downstairs everybody is down there sigh..

Day 2 : What a long long day

We woke up at like 10 am because we hear this bed doing some fucking noise and some fucking girl moaning im like wtf its fucking 10 am geezz waht are they thinking...cant sleep no more and i ask Ski wheres the bathroom he s like go right right right then u ll find it im like ok i do exactly as he said and i fucking end up where i start its a fucking circle im like fuck that im gonna look by myself I see a door says Women only im like ok... i continue and i see Gender Neutral (wtf is that shit)

2000+ Tournament

MWC 3 is happening over October 30th-31st so I doubt you'll get people from out of town to come, because if they are going to travel to a tournament it won't be this one.

I expect a Montreal only turn out with maybe some Ottawa players. Everything looks ok (in terms of tournament organization), just don't get your hopes up about every machine working. I don't know if the technician will be doing something different but everytime he "repairs" the 3S machine it still doesn't work. The second CvS2 machine first player stick needs to be replaced. I don't know anything about the GGXX/MvC2 machines so I can't say much about them.

You compare 'rotate the stick halfway backwards and hit QP with spiral' with unfly? Since when is mashing swords a viable technique? I thought you were better than that.

What makes spiral hard to play isn't good coordination with the stick per se, but mind games.

1. keeping the opponent away. This is anticipation/training your opponent to do what you want him to do. And at the speed mvc2 goes, it's hard.
2. precise knife positioning can shut down characters well, but is hard to do, and mashing is definetely NOT compatiible with it.
3. being quick enough to do damage if your hit connects. Pretty hard if your opponent is in the air.

Spiral has the tools to be top tier for sure, you just need to work a bit harder to win. Same with Cyke.

There's no gainsaying the fact that there's a certain degree of anticipation involved in spiral's gameplan but regardless of what character you play with, there is always a certain degree of anticipation involved, but how much of it is used in fast-paced game such as MVC2? Furthermore, it is highly debatable as to whether what is believed to be spontaneous and skillful anticipation isn't just a systematic, reflexive and haphazard manoeuver. I daresay that because of the incredible speed at which MVC2 is played, the latter is much more used than the former. With the number of swords spiral gets from one single charge, once can afford to throw them (from afar) lavishly and aimlessly throughout the game without making himself REALY vulnerable to counter attacks thereby partialy eliminating any real need to play a with any real precision. On the other hand, characters like magneto and storm require a great deal of precision because they can't attack from a distance. Sure, how well one will fare (playing with spiral) is reliant on one's ability to keep the oponent at bay and grounded by "trying" to anticipate the oponent's next move as best as one can, but how much adroitness does one need to counter an oponent's air attack with a S-Jump + FP and tap LP a couple of time. What i meant by spiral has a very shallow learning curve and that she's a one-trick pony is pretty self-explanatory. Casting anticipation aside, all one needs to do to master spiral is to learn to rotate (without sliping or spraining one's wrist) the stick half a circle backwards and tap QP whereas with Storm, Mag, Sent it's a whole different matter. One can't claim credit for being able to rotate sticks and tap LP as it is like wanting praise for being able to spell one's name right on a test .
Anticipation is irrelevent in determining a character's learning curve because regardless of who you play with you need to be able to anticipate. In addition to having to incorporate ancitipation into their gameplay storm,magneto,sentinel players also have to incorporate difficult-to-manoeuver combos, the same can't be said about spiral players who spend the entire game rotating sticks. In summary, spiral is by far the easiest character to learn and what accounts for the fact that she's hard to win with, is not that she's hard to play as some people might think, but her lack of adaptability.

A character's learning curve is how good you are to do the moves? it's true, but manual dexterity is not enough to win. Doing the moves properly are the character's tools, so to speak. Knowing how to apply these tools is also necessary to be good with a character.

How many players do you see that can do an infinite, but can't land it? a hell of a lot.

Knowing how to apply Spiral's tools to win against sent/MAg/storm is not an easy task, and that's why she's hard to play. Once you can use spiral effectively though, she can hang with the big 4.

Keeping an opponent pinned, wether it's on the ground or in the air, when your opponent is fast, is tough, since you can't lock opponents down anymore (I don't know why you specify that spiral needs to ground opponents, since guard canceling nullifies the trap, and spiral can pin opponents in the air just as easely) Spiral needs to manage the "holes" that appear in the knife patterns. That's why mindlessly throwing knives is not such a great idea anymore. If the gap is not timed properly, your opponent can get to you.

You also need to avoid long range ennemy attacks while you're pinning your opponent (an easy example is preventing storm from doing her hail while avoiding her ground tornado) A lot of players try to shut down spiral with stuff like that, so it's iomportant to know what to do against all strong characters. (As opposed to other character strats, like cable, mag or storm, who can rely on one general strat to win)

If her strats were easy to apply, she'd be used as much as Cable.

Spiral teams work somewhat like doom/bh, sentinel/bh, cable/bh teams. If u can block and get away from rushdown for 1 second, u can pretty much controle the entire match by zoning and trapping.

That's the way it is with most MMORPGs, I know some people who play FFXI from when they wake up (around 4PM) until early in the morning (about 7AM). This is what they do 24/7.

You coulnd't be further from the truth.
One of the determinants of character's learning curve is the AMOUNT OF MOVES LEARNED in relation with TIME, and it goes without saying that spiral's moves are rudimentary and can be learned with ease and effortlessly in a very short period of time. The ability to perform them should be inbred and inherent in those who have been playing SF since the early versions. Putting the learned moves in practice during a match is as hard (if not harder) for any other character than it is for spiral. While it is true that the effectiveness of spiral's trap has been reduced to a very low level by the discovery of "gard canceling" it doesn't make her more difficult to play with, it it only makes her harder to win with. Guard canceling does not fully nullify the trap because it stil fills up her meter and the oponent still takes damage(however little it may be). An example of this would be Magneto's MAGNETIC TEMPEST. The MAGNETIC TEMPEST was rendered very little effective by the discovery of "button mashing" or whatever it is called, but it hardly made him more difficult to play with because he has high level of ADAPTABILITY. Sure, Guard Canceling forces a spiral player to more accurately time his swords and rely more on anticipation however it is just as hard for the oponent to COUNTER-ANTICIPATE. Anticipation can hardly be considered a skill because it only comes from knowing your oponent but i won't digress into that. So with anticipation out of the equation, we are now left with ONLY coordinational prowess, and it's an axiom that spiral's moves are elementary and extaordinarily easy to manoeuver.And I should add, lest you misinterpret my post again that I'm not suggesting in any form or shape that spiral has the shallowest learning curve in the game but compared to characters like mag/storm/sent, characters whose gameplay possess much depth, spiral's gameplay is relatively repetitive simplistic.
You will understand once you've learned to diffirenciate between a character that's hard to win with and a character that's hard to play with. Ryu (or Spiral) is a perfect exemplification of a character that's difficult to win with but very easy to play with.

If by "a lot of work" you mean "1 day", then YEAH.

In any case, you're 100% correct about the fact that it requires a nimble monkey to carry through mag's combos because the monkey in question would have to be able to control mag's speed.
But to execute spiral's technics even a crippled schizophrenic monkey suffering from hemorrhoid can do that.

I recently chat with Bryant (the guy who used to work at Daniels and Pino, he's one of the best TKT/TK4 players in Montreal), he's working at that Langelier arcade right now.

I don't know if u guys are gonna be down for it, but I asked him if we could hold MAT out there since everything's broken at 2000+ and MIRA, he said he'll see what he can do.

That arcade should be perfect, it's the biggest in Montreal and it's inside a mall (for all u mall hunters); however, they still don't have 3S or cvs2 :confused: :sad:
Hopefully Bryant's gonna get them before MAT.

In light of all the bad decisions made by the Mortal Kombat TEAM over the recent years, I'm a bit skeptical about this new one entitled DECEPTION despite the many favorable reviews it has received. The title is rather ironic in itself. :badboy:
At first glance, the game seems to have significantly improved over the previous versions (playabilitywise), though I don't quite understand why they've decided to introduce of the use of weapons thereby making the game look just like a more gory version of POWERSTONE. I may be wrong here but i don't see how incorporating weapons (in the way they have) will add depth to the gameplay. :confused:

Ok, Toronto isn't even going to come even if it's 5$, 10$, 20$. They already know the arcade is shit and nothing will ever get fixed. Ottawa may show up since it's only about 1.5 hours away and since Fred might be coming.

The repairman fixes the same machines every single week and same things break the same day he fixes it. The WHOLE cabinet for 3S is ruined, the owner has to order a completely new board and probably cabinet. For one of the CvS2 machines a new stick has to be ordered and the board also has to be replaced. The only working CvS2 machine there is starting to break down too...

And I'm afraid Nadir is right, it's not really the money that matters but the real scrubs from 2000+ will not want to participate once they see who's playing. Even in casual they change machines when the "good" players are playing.

C'est un happening,une expérience interressante et une bonne pratique pour MAT2. Encourager les nouveaux a y participer, dites leurs qu'il y a une double élimination( donc qu'il jouerons pas nécessairement contre des gens "imbatable" puisque dans le looser braquet tout le monde a perdu, et dites leurs aussi que se n'est que 2$).
Je préfères avoir 30 joueurs qui se font du fun a 2$ que 15 joueurs qui jouent 1 contre l'autre depuis plus de 3 ans.

- MVS2: le techniciens veut l'approbation du owner pour la vitesse, je l'ai obtenu..donc le prochain qui voit le tech dite lui que le owner est daccord pour la changer MERCI.Double élimination. A part de ca, on me laisse entendre que le cabinet marche bien en général. (le tech devrait passer faire la révision des buttons la veille).
INSCRIPTION au coût de 2$ ( si il y a un conscensus par les participant , et pas juste le top 5,le prix sera de 5$, a vérifier l'opininon la journée même).

How are you going to properly organize a tournament if you are going to ask everybody what their opinion is on what's the best thing to do?

Everybody has different views, and you will never get everybody to agree on the same thing. If it's one thing I've learned from seeing people organize tournaments and organizing tournaments myself is to just stick by what you say. If you say the tournament is going to be 10$ entry fee, don't change it. If the date of the tournament is in two weeks, keep it that way. If you decide to make rules like: NO ROLL CANCEL, HOP SUPER, P-GROOVE, PAINTING THE FENCE AND ROLL SUPERS just stick by it.

If people don't like the way you organize a tournament, they won't come - BIG DEAL!

Here's a suggestion:

If there are more than 12 people for CvS2 make the entry fee 5$. If there are more than 20 people for CvS2 make the entry fee 10$.

5$ or 10$ isn't alot considering this is a special occaison... I doubt people will mind, some of those people spend 5-10$ at the arcade everytime they are there anyways.

Do you really think the technician will actually be there from about 1PM to 1-2AM? I really doubt it. He'll be there to make sure everything is working then he'll bounce.

Yesterday, I was at 2000, to have an update on all the machines and here it is.

Capcom VS SNK 2:- Left machine: 1st player joystick and buttons ok :tup:
: 2nd player joystick ok and HP buttons works about 80%. Today the technician his coming to make the final adjustments. :clap:

Marvel VS Capcom 2:I don't know WTF happened but: 1st players' LK does not work and 2nd player joystick connection is weird :xeye:

BUT DONT WORRY I AM COMING TONIGHT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE TECHNICIAN DOES HIS MTF JOB PROPERLY. AWRIGHT!!!!!!!! :clap:

STF 3: Yesterday, Seb and JD told me that the joysticks were still unrepaired.Sincerely this is an old game, and I dont know what the tech is going to be able to do with that shit.

I never said the 3S sticks were actually broken for real, they are just really bad quality sticks. Very uncomfortable to play on. In other words, they might aswell not be broken because that's how bad they are.

I'm not sure the 2nd CvS2 cabinet will get repaired since the technician has tried to repair it so many times before and it still doesn't work. The buttons work fine it's just the fact you can't block low on both sides. I hope he fixes it, if not we can't use that machine... for anything tournament related.

Den: I'm not sure those CDs will play on your DVD burner (I just tested it). However, it will play on a VCD player. If you are still interested I can arrange to send them to you via-internet. Let me know on MSN or here.

Well, the only game that is for sure is CvS2. It has the only good cabinet in the whole arcade. I don't know about the other games though. It'll probably be a majority vote for games like MvC2/GGXX/3S... depending on how many people are going to participate in those games.
