Definately man I really felt like playing this afternoon and it was good that you were online, I wanted you to play on speed 3 with the lag/delay: it made me miss a lot of crucial stuff as you could tell with some matches that were really close. There were matches when i was trying to combo (the Ryu matches) and instead i was throwing you -> I hate doing that shit, so sorry about all the lame throws. After the 15th or so match I couldn't take it anymore, I thought fuck this. I figured I'd drop a note on here but you were faster :D

I'll check again later tonight, at around 2 o clock am. Play again soon man, hopefully under better circumstances.

That's the "Old" version from Super Turbo. There are some differences...I think characters get faster walking speeds, faster fireballs, and changed bufferabilities from the regular Super versions.

I have the Anniversary stick. The switches stick on nearly everyone's controller. Check out the hardware support section of the SRK forums to see how to switch the stick out to something with a bit more life to it.

My sentiments exactly. For people who use him, is it even fun for you? I can understand using him in a tourney, I guess, but in casual play, why? Vermillion, and whoever for that matter, I was probably complaining/getting pissed about the lag on my end. I haven't had a decent internet connection for about 5 days now. Something is up with my internet provider I guess, it keeps dropping connection or going from ok connection to totally unbearable out of nowhere, so you probably heard some sort of random string of cursing. haha. ;) I have to call them and get that figured out, because it's getting rediculous at this point. I think the only decent connection I've had this whole week was with Zeruel, which doesn't surprise me considering he lives like 1/2 an hour from me. Otherwise it literally goes from playable to complete crap most of the time. *sigh* I can't wait for ECC and EVO to play everyone in person.

Yea, I had to play a bit smarter. As you can tell, I'm not a rush down player, and I'm not exactly a turtler either. I think the easiest way to deal with Chun-Li is with one of the Shotos, but that becomes boring pretty fast. Good games.

Hey man. Yes, I tinkered with my router trying to get it setup for Zbattle again. I'll restore my previous settings so we can play. I think that's why I can't connect to several people on Live. I can't play the following people: retiredjerk, Savalas, Zeruel, Alwayscharged (sometimes). Hopefully restoring my settings will fix that.

Todd, I'm leaving on April 20th, a week from tomorrow, and at this point looks like I'm going to be back sometime late May, but possibly early June, depending on if our last couple of shows become definite or not. Recently, my execution hasn't been so great, and I've been missing a lot of stuff that I used to regularly get. I think because I've been playing with a lot of other characters, mainly to not bore the other person with only DeeJay, lol. As for the crossup question, I am not sure if it is your timing, but a reason might be that DeeJay is just hard to crossover in general, along with Balrog. Both of them have the slickest shoulders in the game.

If you're not a "really good one", I'm frightened at what a better one can do. Weird thing is, only recently have I found Honda intimidating.

Don't get me wrong - Honda has his problem matches, but I think that he has some advantages when being played online. His HHS is a great move to use as an offensive advance. The move has range and can close in on an opponent rather quickly. He has a plethora of antiairs (headbutt, vertical slam, standing fierce, standing forward, forward+standing roundhouse) to use in various situations.

There is no doubt that players should use the Arcade version of ST Honda. Take advantage of the storage exploit in the Uchio Throw! Honda has a HUGE counterthrow advantage with the Uchio Throw, moreso than any command throw in the game. If you are storing the throw and are jamming away at any punch button, you should be able to outthrow nearly anyone, even Gief's SPD setups.

Basic gameplan is to get in and use the Uchio Throw and pressure with the HHS. The trickiest part of Honda's strategy is to get in on the opponent. Shotos can play a distance game and drain you with fireball/tripguard, so the Honda player needs to know when to advance and when to sit there and take the block damage. It is very rare that a Honda player gets a perfect - it usually happens if Honda can get in on the opponent immediately after the round begins.

Some of the more advanced things that Honda can do are to get in with the HHS while the opponent is waking up, time the HHS to stop once Honda's right next to them, and Uchio immediately. You can also Uchio right after a close multihit Super. There's also his crossup down+forward (splash) and his linking strong punches. Another tactic is to get the opponent in the corner, Sumo Grab them (fierce throw) and walk through crossup with the low roundhouse. It can be an ambiguous crossup if timed right, so you can screw with anyone if used properly.

Play around with it and let me know if any of this helps. I would think that any other Honda players would back up anything I have said above. Like I said in the beginning, some matches are tought, but Honda can win them. Patience and massive throw damage are your keys to victory. Good luck!

Your welcome. In my opinion, players improve when strats are spelled out for others to see. The opposition can come up with tactics to negate the initial player's strategy, forcing them to build a newer counterstrategy.

There have always been some great Honda players. Bob Painter (CA) and Bill Gould (PA) come to mind. Before ST came on the console in any sort of semi-complete package (not 3DO), the Honda players were very few and very far between. Painter's Honda match VS Pete Talley on the B5 DVD got me motivated to start playing Honda, as Painter took out Talley's Sagat and Old Ken, no easy task. I have been playing Honda now for the last four years, and my Honda game has improved dramatically thanks to Xbox Live.

Ryu can play fireball/tripguard games, like I mentioned before. Simply distance yourself from Honda, throw fireballs of various speeds, and low roundhouse Honda whenever he comes in from a jumpin.

Sim loses this match. Honda can Uchio Sim's close range attacks, counter far pokes and spears with the headbutt, and HHS until the cows come home. Technicalmonkey and I played that match several times and reached the same conclusion.

Gief can go either way - Gief can counter headbutts and splashes with the lariat. Honda can counterthrow an SPD with a stored Uchio and a rapid button press. Gief can wakeup counter the HHS with an SPD, but the window to get the move in gets tinier and tinier based on the HHS speed. Honda can counter lariats at a distance with the forward+roundhouse attack. Note that this attack is a trip.

Balrog and Bison - Don't really run into this matchup too often, but on paper it would seem that Honda would have an advantage in both scenarios. Balrog may have an easier time with his headbutt and devastating Super, but I think that if Honda puts the pressure on that both of these clowns would have to succumb to "THE FATNESS". If anything, I do beat CE Bison players quite easily with Honda, so take that for what it's worth.

Good luck with your fights. I usually play ST Honda, Turbo Balrog, Turbo Chun, ST Sim, Turbo Blanka, Shoto, and ST Guile. I think I'm pretty good with all characters mentioned, but I should let my fights do the talking. I should be online during the day tomorrow as I'm going to hang with friends later tonight. Add me to your friends list and we'll see about getting some matches in. ^_^

Just curious Afro, what type of stick do you use? Is it an xbox stick? I only ask because I'm evaluating my options in terms of hardware as my snes pad, though sweet, is only a ps2 pad which runs thru the dreambox (button delay). I never really noticed delay with the Dreambox, until I went to BestBuy this past weekend. They had AE running and I played with the standard xbox pad, but it felt so responsive...so I was like wtf? Immediately went home and did some lateral movement tests with my snes ps2 pad, and it just seemed slow and unresponsive. I guess I never noticed it because never actually played the xbox version offline, only the Jap Ps2 version. Even playing 3s with the xbox pad felt dope :razzy: So anyway, I'll be shopping around for some hardware so any recommendations would be appreciated.:tup:

Yeah, playing late at night rules because connections are at its peak. Oh, and don't worry about the DeeJay vs DeeJay matches, I don't know anyone else that plays DeeJay online, so I love to train against him, and plus your DeeJay can give anyone fits. As for the stick I use, my oldest brother built 2 custom sticks using happ parts, an xbox controller, and the competition stick. It's very responsive, but for some reason, we can not do Gief's spinning lariat on-call when we press the 3 punch or kick buttons together, it works but it will not come out 100%, probably closer to 65-75%, but I don't really use Gief, just my brothers, so that isn't a big issure for me personally. As for recommendations, I'll let you talk to my brother next time I see you on Aim, I don't know much about them, I just use and play what my brother makes, lol. Take care.

Can anyone recommend any pad/stick that allows you to do 3 punch/3 kick moves pretty easily? I play as N. Blanka a lot and without 3 kicks I lose a lot of my game. I was thinking I could just map jab to 3 kicks since I literally NEVER use jab with Blanka. But then guys like Hawk I don't know, I can't think of a button I don't use. Trying to hit the 3 xbox controller buttons at the same time worked maybe 1/10 times...

Truth is if you are going from pad to stick I'd choose to go with Sanwa....not just because they are technically better on paper but they its an easier transition IMO.

Go with one of the sticks you posted up in that link. Any of those is fine but ask for both the square and octogon gate for the stick....swapping out gates is super easy and you can decide which one is best for you.

I went with a pelican because I didnt wanna wait for a custom built stick but looking at those makes me want one badly!

You are going to spend a pretty penny for japanese parts though...but its all worth it. You can go with us parts but if I were you I wouldn't....it'd be like playing pool with a louisville slugger...but thats just my opinion.

Not true, against your Chun and Bison, I have jumped in with the jab probably 75% of the time because it stuffs your Chun anti air and Bison's strong juggles, you've played me a couple of sets these last few weeks so you should know that something was wrong when I was jumping in attackless. Try these:

- Connect the CAT5 you are using for Xbox Live directly to your cable/DSL modem. Restart your connection and see if there's any improvement. If you do, you may have something going on with the router.
- Reconnect to your router if the above didn't work, go into your router settings, and set up the ip of your Xbox connection to DMZ, and try Xbox Live again. DMZ (demilitarized zone) will leave that port open for all to see. This also relieves the port of any and all firewall protection etc. in the router.
- Try another port on your router. Sometimes these things just go bad.
- Disconnect your cable/DSL modem and hook it up to the main line, before your splitter. See if you see any improvement. If you do, you may need a new splitter (that's what I had to do at one point)

Well, then I guess you probably wont be joining our(DG & myself) games then :P We live for matches like that because it's the ultimate game of zoning. You'll never see us pull out a huge combo. That has never been our style. We're more of the, "break his spirit until he folds" kind of players :wgrin:
Funny thing is, our idea of a great match is one that features barely anything but chip damage, both players being constantly aware of their positioning, and in the end resulting in a time over. Now, THOSE matches, are priceless :cool:

I don't mind playing someone like that in a arcade experience but on live its so fustrating partly because i play characters that need to advance on a projectile charater to get that "spacing" and it just can't be done on 99% of the connections cuz u see the fb coming as u walk forward but yet u still don't get to block it cuz that little bit of lag and thats always been a major complaint for me. Not only this but kaillera and even the pad pro's beloved ZBattle. So with that being said i'm in it for the fun factor as well just that my fun differs from the Zoning department.

Its not accurate enough for high level matches like DVG is trying to explain. The true arcade experience is completely different, advancing on the projectile spammers is a piece of cake. Toss in some live lag and it sucks.

So, it's settled then. See you guys on Z***** :karate: As far as lag and not being able to advance...well, it's a 2-way street. As a shoto, all you can do is just anticipate and do early DPs and hope for a hit. This is why EVERY charge character gets a free-pass against a good shoto on XBL. I have yet to truly nail a late DP on a charge char yet. As for fun, it's really just relative. Competition is what breeds the fun for me. You can play the same way for 150 battles straight and I wouldn't care...so long as you were going all out. But then again, Arcade Sprite Size SF is still new to us, so we're still in the learning & adapting phase. My take is, If you want fun, play a lesser skilled opponent and work on combos. Other than that, expect your opponent to come at you full force, regardless of whether or not you like it *cough tick throws* *cough ST. Ken's mid-air hurricane kick into grab*

Hey Vintage, are you gonna be on tonight? I've been training and making up new strats against Sim for DeeJay, and it's been working lately. Sim has always given me the most trouble and I want to test these new things I learned against the best Sim I ever played. :tup:

Hopefully we'll be on tonite. If so, it will be later (midnite,1am PST). You are overstating my Sim's prowess way too much. If you want to play against a good Sim, play Shirts. My Sim on Arcade sprites is average at best. However, my Sim will make you work on Snes though.

As for Evo, we'll mostly likely go but wont enter the tourney though. Seeing as it's going to be ST run on DC, that means we may have adapter issues (blue screen). And based on what I read on the Evo thread about switching custom periphs to a standard stick (that will be provided by the staff) that don't register within 30secs makes entering the tourney pointless. Unlike most of the players on here, we can't just simply substitute in a stick for our pad. So, should we go, the BYOC room for sure.
