I always loved DOA 2 over DOA3(very damn scrubby). They removed some moves from DOA3, and they made the counter for kicks different from punches. True it doesn't bring back the glory from DOA2 Arcade, at least it's a step in the right direction. I'll be playing this one for sure though...
Anyone notice that the BGs in this game look incredible? I would have never thought the Xbox could pull off visuals like that, it really makes my PC games look subpar in comparison. Anyway true Dolby 5.1(wait till you hear the train, or the cop car chase in one BG),the music is back to the greatness of DOA2(DOA3's tracks weren't awful, but 2 was MUCH better IMHO), and of course 480P in Widescreen. Truly made for anyone who has a good setup. As for lag I'll find out tonight...
3 hidden characters on the VS screen, I assume, Tengu and Bayman, but the third eludes me? Raidou could make an appearance considering he's in the opening intro(and looks damn cool), or maybe they threw in Hayate... I dunno I'll just have to unlock them as well as all the costumes. As for extra modes, you have training, story, tag battle(my fave), team battle, Survival and of course Watch mode. In Options you can set your age, customize controls, select the announcer's voice(the male voice is just too crappy!) and even Kasumi's voice can be switched to her old DOA 2 one.
On a side note the game also comes with the Saturn version of DOA 1, why they ported the Saturn version over the Arcade version is beyond me. Surely Xbox could handle a Model 2 conversion. Anyway the Saturn version is pretty much the same as it was years ago. Only thing I see different in the options screen is the fact you can change Kasumi's voice.
Overall if you're a fan of DOA2(not many here are, most on here never gave it a chance), or if you really want something like VF on Xbox, this is the route to go. For those who have DOA3 and hate it, this game probably isn't for you. As I said before they removed some moves, and made countering a little harder to do(which actually might be a good thing to some people), but the core gameplay is pretty much the same. Still to me it's better than most 3D fighters where all you do is block, block, block, wait then attack. I'll be playing this one online, and I hope you will too.

I'm plaing practice mode right now. This is game is fucking G O R G E U S! The 8 way run is alot better than it was in DOA2:HC, meaning you don't have to hold free then double tap up or down. So far thats all I can post right now.
Anyways...got the wallscroll when I picked this up and didn't pre-order the game so that's a  .

I'm guessing the 3 box is Hitomi. Since I'm looking at the c.select screen now and don't see Hitomi.
On another note, I'm glad I gave this fighter another chance(man can't survive on VF for 3d fighter alone) and back Bahn on this one that everyone here should at the very, very, very least give this a rent.
BTW, Bahn :smokin: av.

Whoever said this game was lag free is dense. Every game I've played so far has been laggy as hell. It seems that other users joining/leaving the game creates a lag spike.

I played couple lag-free games earlier today, but it reared its ugly head while I watched a few matches as well. Besides the online shit, this game kicks ass, though I see they dumbed down a few moves as well.
The wallscroll does indeed kickass, WasFemto!

the lag on this game is not bad at all. I've played people to where it skips like every second but that's usually their shitty connection. I've played tons of games where they felt just fine online. MK runs better online but doa runs just as good in alot of occasions and it has alot more options thanks to live 3.0

Well i bought the game with no expectations and I was still disapointed. Cant comment anything live wise, but ahh for the ultimate version of doa2 they sure did take away a lot for doa2. =/

I ddin't play too many games online, but the both I played were VERY laggy. I think it had more to do with my connection, but I would definitely say that MK:D is better online connection wise. Sill DOAU is very, very fun on and offline. I'll be playing more online. Gotta love the ranking systems. it's so good.

DOA isn't Live 3.0:
Posted by IGN
And you can switch games and rules at any time so that you and your buds can hang together for three or four hours playing DOA. There's no Live 3.0 support, but if you have a friends list, you should do just fine getting your group together.

This game rocked online, a few laggy matches, i have no fucking clue how the single matches ranking system works, but other than that, it was a blast, best online experience ive had on xbox yet, next to burnout 3.

So is this game going to get it's own section?
I think it should. The game has some kick ass gameplay, the online play is awesome for the most part and the online options for the game, like setting up tournaments and such, is top-notch. So how about it?
GGs to Dios < X >. I unlocked a coustume with Lei Fang I think you'll like

10-29-2004, 04:28 AM
Well I just finished unlocking all of Lei Fangs coustumes. For the first 15 I beat it on normal and the last 5 I beat the game on hard. I was talking to a guy after you left and he said that doesn't work(forgot who he used), but for me it did. I just left the options for Story Mode on default except to get to the last 5 when i bumped it up to hard.

passed story mode again....nothing, and again...nothing. Survival mode, nothing....time attack....nothing....wtf am i supposed to do?
Had a blast playing this online. How cool would it be if Capcom implemented the "Winner Stays" function into its games? Seems like a no brainer for any and all online fighters from now on.

I have 17 costumes unlocked for Ayane by playing story mode on hard. I heard from some people online that you need a DOA3 save before you can unlock some options. I don't know if thats true or not though.

After playing this game online for a while, so far it's been pretty laggy for me. I dunno if my connection just isn't strong enough for this game or what but, the majority of the matches I played yesterday had horrible lag. I'm watching my bro play right now and that shit is skipping like hell. The latency is ok though the game skips like every 2 fucking seconds. Messes up your timing on shit. Hopefully this shit will get patched or something cuz CVS2 lags less than this. LOL.
My bro did play some DOA1 matches though and those were pretty lag free. :p
slayerx4
10-29-2004, 10:31 PM
The lag will mostly did with the connection you have. The biggest way you can tell is if you play a lot of matches with diferernt people in different lobbies. If you are watching and the gameplay is pretty much lag free untill you start playing, then it's your connection. That's what's happening to me. stupid college internet.

Awesome games to just about everyone I played yesterday too. ****, this game is fun! I'm about to pull something I really haven't done on a consistent basis since I was a kid - play video games early on a Saturday morning. Hell, I might even throw in some cartoons on the side later on, though I wouldn't know what to watch. It's right at 5AM here, and I think it's time I turn on DOAU again and go to "work". I've got much to learn. And after seeing that something like half of my games(or even more, perhaps) ran VERY well yesterday, I feel like I could put in some serious time with this.

From http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=36779&topic=17184601 . . .
I've noticed a number of people having trouble with their profiles getting corrupted, so I'm making this topic to inform everyone that you can "uncorrupt" the file.
DOA:Ultimate automatically detects if you have an internet connection from the moment it starts. Here is how the profiles work:
If you make a new profile while your XBOX is connected to the internet, you will need your XBOX connected to the internet every single time you want to load it (even to play offline).
If you make a new profile while your XBOX is not connected to the internet, you can only load your profile while your XBOX is not connected. However after you load it, you can then plug your ethernet cable in and play online. You should make this kind of profile if you ever want to play offline without an internet connection.
If you get a message saying your profile is corrupted, don't delete it! It is not corrupted, you just need to either plug or unplug your internet connection, depending on which type of profile you made.
I hope everybody reads this before they delete their profiles.

DOA3 skills will help a bit but if you play 3 first then I wouldn't spend too much time with the wrestlers cause then you'll just get pissed that 2 has no air grabbing, or no ground grabbing with certain characters. The change in counters might mess you up a bit, too. There's also a lot less stuff you can do in tag battle, like attack while switching out and stuff. You also might get mad that certain characters are missing, like Christie and Brad, though for some reason Hitomi is in the game (not that I have anything against Hitomi.) They're both fun games though, but if you plan to spend a lot of time online then you should just start with Ultimate so 3 doesn't mess you up at all. Other than for playing online I kinda prefer 3 but that's just me.
And hey Dios, hope we can play online sometime.

DOA3 skills will not help you in this game at all. DOA3 is a scrubby excuse for a game. If you wanna get good, just go into practice mode and learn your characters.
IkananXIII
11-01-2004, 05:36 PM
Well I think it's a little unfair to say that DOA3 skills wont help AT ALL. You can definitely say that they won't make you the best at the game and they wont help as much as just picking up 2 off the bat but I think that anyone who is a fan of DOA should try both games.
You say 3 is scubby, of course it's scrubby, so is 2. DOA has always been far fom a legitimate fighting game, thats why its not played in tournaments or anything. DOA is just a game you pick up with your friends and have some random fun with because the game is very fun. I dont think it should be played competetively cause I dont think thats the way the game was designed, it should just be played for fun and I think 3 has a lot more things in the gameplay that make it fun. Both are great games, I'm just saying you cant tell someone to never play 3, pretend it never existed and go straight to ultimate, they should all get a chance.
But seriously, calling DOA 3 a scrubby fighter is like calling Mario Kart a scrubby racer, theyre just games for fun.

Geez. I play Bass, and that REALLY sucks for me. In your opinion, which DOA3 character plays closest to his/her DOAU incarnation?
IkananXIII
11-01-2004, 07:42 PM
most of the characters play pretty closely to the way they do in DOA3, provided that character isnt a wrestler. most of the characters lost a few moves but with many of the characters they are moves you wouldnt even notice are gone, the kind that they just add for eye candy. the closeset to their DOA3 character would of course be Hitomi cause she is her doa3 character, Bayman is about the same, too. if you like wrestlers then Leon or Bayman are both good cause they have their ground grabs. All the characters are still pretty fun to play as, if you dont know if you want to buy it cause ur afraid of it being too different then i wouldnt worry about it, i would recomend to just pick up the game and see that theres tons of fun to be had in it, or at least rent it and see.

coo another bass player. good thing u use bayman cause its like bass is so weak in this, and bass is the only character i use. I like bass so much that I cant sub him with another player . I dont even play tag matches. just lettin u know when playin with bass dont be afraid of losin. One thing I like bass is he like a comeback player. I have comeback on a lot of close matches with him. thats why its good to not be nervous when u real low on life and dont fuck up. Hope to see you online so we can get some cool bass vs bass matches. cause all i see online is a bunch of ayanes, jann lees- especially him. i dont know why ppl like dude so much, maybe because of his flying kick? and theres a lot of kasumis and hayabusa. i see those 4 all the time. oh and about the d/f,d/f+F+p thats his double arm driver.

Considering what I've seen online, I'd have to say I recommend getting this game if you're playing for the fun of it. I have had games where it played FLAWLESS with 8 players, and lots of lag with 4 (very rare for me). In comparison to any other fighting game online, I must say this one plays excellently under normal conditions. Team Ninja may not make perfect fighting games, but damn do they know how to execute a game well. If Namco decides to go online, and it does as well as this, I won't be able to stop playing.

Actually, if you notice the rankings of Most Played in the Records option you would see that in North America Haybusa is #1 picked. In Asia, Ayane is #1 picked. Bass is rather low down there and lower than Tengu (mostly because I see a bunch of SS players using Tengu).

Hayabusa is a friggin SUPER NINJA! why wouldn't you pick him?
Hayabusa is indeed powerful. The fact that all of his Punch Counters can lead into the Izuna Otoshi makes him a very deadly opponent. I have won countless matches using Hayabusa against people who proceed to use Ein and Jann Lee. Three Hi-Counter Holds is all I would need to turn the match in my favor. However, I couldn't proceed further with Hayabusa other than relying on a punch counter which resulted in me losing many matches. Hayabusa just isn't my style. I prefer to use Ayane.

Been thinking about trading this game for Halo 2. Not that the game is bad, but the rank whores in DOA2:U totally killed the game for me now.
SvC, CvS 2, GGX2 those three haven't give me such a hard time with rank whores. In DOA2:U, lets face it, I don't care about the popularity chart on xbl, but it sucks that the mid kick counters were changed to make me feel like a scrub playing mind games against a SS-A graded player. What's the strategy now? Pick a character from popularity chart to win. If a bad SS-A graded player see's me picking a least popular character, he/she will call me noob. Or, if I defeated two A graded players with Bass against a popular character, they think it's a bullshit win.
I don't understand anything in DOA2 XBL anymore. How about it, trade this game for Halo 2 or Street Fighter AE import? :xeye:
DOA2:U rank whores= I'm going back to playing DOA 3 against the cpu.

I haven't seen anyone act like that. Either way, it's a great online experience if you find the right people to fight and learn from them. I could care less about rankings just so long as I improve. Of course I haven't had anyone call me a noob for not using a less popular character mainly because I use Ayane. I would hope you keep DOA:U because I enjoy fighting the less popular characters just as a change and to see different strategies. If you care for a game, just send a friend request and I'll invite ya. I wouldn't mind trying to see how ya are before you trade it in, if you do so.
Halo 2 and SF:AC are both good games with great online play (Definitely Halo 2) but it depends on your preferences.

you gotta keep DOA, Anniversary Collection's online experience is pale in comparison. hit me up and i'll give you some Lei Fang and Ryu action. i have SF:AC and it's pretty weak. don't get me wrong. 3s is my favorite fighter ever, but it's not so hot online. Halo2 is good too.

All those three are still not bad. Maybe a few more months getting matches with better players including you two might keep me getting used to online fun factor aside from it's horrible rank whores compare to the other fighters.
Damn, Ragnarok Online is occupying my fighting game needs. :wow:

Add me to Silent Ninja. I want a high rank but if I lose... well that just means I need to rethink my stragety. Big deal if I lost points. It's all good fun

to further add to the request to keep the game, remember that you don't have to talk or listen to people online. I mean. just dont' fight with your headset, and if you hear them through your speakers talking nonsense then oh well. Don't let the rank system ruin the game experience for you. the scrubbiest people are ones who complain because they lost to an unpopular/low-tiered character. If they're that good, they shouldn't have lost. And I personally don't think that all of the people of high rank are that extradordinary right now. Most just know the game better than anyone since it's a remake (not trying to take away from highly skilled players at all).

dont feel bad about losing against those players because those guys have been playing since day 1 on live and been doing better than anybody else. if you are bad at counters, dont use them period. i do not have live but i do know that its more beneficial to play lower ranked people as those people would be more on your level and you learn a lot more rather than getting your ass kicked repeatedly by these high ranked players.
when they start countering a lot, start throwing, or trick them into thinking youre gonna attack but then, throw instead. counter throws do a lot of damage when you catch someone trying to counter you.
also pay attention to the tier listing, and read up on why the characters are placed where they are, you may be at the top of your game w/ a certain character but have a tougher battle against a higher tiered character, play counter character (if you can) so you have an easier time vs that character.

hello, been awhile since I've been to this site.
Perhaps some of you might have seen me in this game, I go by the xbox live name of jotunstrom, and my nickname is scrub power. Bass is my primary char, and when I want to switch it up, I usually go Bayman, Kasumi, or Helena.
I know I saw a game channel at one time named Dios SRK or something.
I mainly play this game for fun, I could care less about ranking> I never really cared for this game competitively, but the way multiplayer is set up (up to 8 in a room, what other game has that?) makes this game kind of addicting. :D
