Sk !!

Thanks for the matches last night. Brought back a "LOT" of memories bro. I just wish I could've been more comp for you, but I haven't played sf2 since xband died. I've forgotten soooo much it's embarassing! Sorry I had to leave, I was having a blast. I had to go pick up Halo 2 for my daughters upcoming birthday. (She's actually starting to become a gamer.)

Anyway, nothing has changed. You are still a beast. But make no mistake, my desire to learn this game "AGAIN" is just as strong as it was 9 years ago. I will take as many @ss whippings as necessary to ensure that. :)

LET THE BEATINGS BEGIN!!!!!!!!

(I definitely want to practice with you in 3s too.)

Man, any of you other Xband OG's still post around these parts? I'm setting up a former Xband contact list (link in profile), and I know someone will have to see this message sometime.

I know i'm posting a LONG time after that last post but I used to be on SNES XBand as well......back then my handle was WINNER! and then briefly Mr. Win Collector....I played mostly SSFII and Super Mario Kart with some MKII thrown in there.....yeah we should have a reunion of XBand OGs! Like PacJam was saying in another thread, I played XBand so much I still remember those 4 theme musics that used to play like it was yesterday! I always wanted to know what happened to people like Da Phat Lady and Vincent Delpino......we all know Dream theater+ is still the man in capcom games, what about Virus (U*D), Iron Monkey, Soth, SK-40......and the man himself, Dark Gaiden! I remember that guy was THE BEST around the end of XBand's run.....wow memories. Who else that used to play XBand SSFII or any game for that matter is on these SRK forums now??

Holly fucking shit!! NO way Mr. Win collector. I was -BoB-Of(U*D) on xband and you must have handed me my ass more times then i can remember. Your Sagat was one of the craziest and most anoying matchups i had ever played.

Here is a break down of some of the ppl you mentioned.

Soth - Goes by Lukes Balls on here. He works for Tips and Ticks Magazine in LA. www.myspace.com/208410

Iron Monkey - Doesn't play any more and he runs a Fry's Food here in the Phoenix area. www.myspace.com/452481

DreamTheater - Works for Pelican as a product development lead. http://www.myspace.com/dreamtr

Vincent Delpino - He was around for a while but I have no idea what happend to him. Im Sure DreamTR knows.

Virus(U*D) - No clue. He disapeared right before xband finished.

SK-40 - He worked for Microsoft as a game tester for a while in Seattle but he is now working for Lik-Sang (sp?) in China. If you want I can see if I can find his work email.

Dark Gaiden and Vintage - They are very active on this forum and you can find them playing on Xbox Live under DGV. They also play on Xbox360 SF2:HF.

It is good to see you found us finaly. You should jump on either Xbox with HSF2 or Xbox360 with sf2:Turbo. Im sure you will remember how to play in no time.

Just a couple of updates: Vincent Delpino lives in CT, and owns his own company. His AIM name is: vincentaerostar

Sk-40 is not at Lik-Sang anymore because they went out of business. No idea where he is as of today.

I was formerly known as Piffle/Deece back in the XBand days.

Although towards the end, I just went by Piffle, or Mr. Piffle, I forget exactly.

I think I spoke with most of you over the phone at one time or another, back in the day. XBand calling card #1.

For all of those past phone calls and retarded comments I made, I owe at least half the people who've posted on here an apology, especially DreamTR, whom Badd Karma and I prank called way too many times.

For my retarded immaturity back then, you have my apologies.

That said, I got a custom stick and had high hopes of getting some major competition going again on Hyper SF2 on XBox Live. Sadly, these hopes were quickly dashed, as there just isn't the player base I had hoped for.

About two months ago, after much frustration at the lack of competition at Hyper SF2, I switched over to SF3, and am still learning the ropes, but enjoying it a lot none the less. Usually a steady stream of players to face too.

Anyway, quick shout outs to SK-40, Soth, and Winner!!. Good to see you guys are still playing.

Oh, quick update on DGV. He mainly plays on Kaillera and ZBattle.net, which runs off the ZSnes emulator. And he's a bad ass still, at least he was last I played him about 6 months ago. Had no luck at convincing him to give XBox Live another go, as he said the lag kills it for him.

My skills at SF2 improved a good bit since my XBand days, and I was even cheesier than before, though since I've moved over to SF3 though, I think I've slipped.

Would be cool to have some old school matches with you guys some time though.

Good to hear from you all, good to see you've still found the time to get some matches in after all these years.

Hey all these people and I still remember.....Piffle, wuzzup man? I remember talking on the phone to you and asking, what was up with the Piffle/Deece name, are you reppin a law firm or something. You laughed and told me that you shared that XBand account with someone else so you guys traded off. Aw the memories!

Hey Winner!!, word.

Deece got his own XBand after awhile, so it was around that time I switched my XBand account to just Mr. Piffle. After he got his own XBand, he switched his name to Ryan J NBK.

Anyway, back in the day, we had a lot of head to head matches. Your stinking Ken vs. Dhalsim. ;) Fun stuff though, good memories.

I remember playing Cyko+, Nothingness, Da Phat Lady, you and several others towards that twilight period at the end of XBand. Was cool stuff, had a nice little community going there.

Ken's wake up DP was the bomb.

Holy shit that's right! You two......and I remember for a second you guys were trying to start up a new club on Xband and you kept trying to get me and Da Phat Lady out of -TGF- to go......amazing that I even remember this shit! Your boy Ryan J NBK and that damn Balrog.....I remember he used to headbutt the shit out of my ass, just like Cyko and those damn noogies! Good stuff....

Ahh, I was the Balrog player. Ryan J only played Ken and Guile.

I played Rogger, Chun, Guile, Ken , Ryu and Dhalsim. Balrog was probably my best, although my Sim was pretty good too.

Yes, I tried to get you to join +*, a.k.a. Fighting Legends. The short-lived club which I almost convinced you to join, but I had to leave that night to go hang out with some friends.

Odd that I still remember it so well.

Holy crap- I dunno if you guys remember me, I had an account under the name "Punk Negro". It actually was given to me by a friend who created the screen name, lol. But I remember some of those names... I played super SF2 almost an hour every night, and I used Dhalsim most often. I changed the name to something else not too long before they cancelled the service, but anyway its good to see that you guys still play!

Hey Catalyst!

This is Aqua Blood. I remember playing you on Hyper months ago and having a lot of fun, even though you destroyed me. ;) If you’re ever in the mood again for some old-school SF, I’d love to play some matches in Hyper again (always looking for new people to play since Hyper has been pretty dead lately). If you’re interested, I could add you to my FL and send you an invite if I see you’re on. Or, we could set up a specific time with PMs or something. Just a thought. Laterz. (And sorry this message is a little off-topic. Man, I wish I had had XBand back in the day -- Mario Kart online would have rocked!)

Xband was WAY better than XBox Live is. Less lag and crap if you believe it on a 900baud modem.

I know everyone babbles about Kaillera, but without the rankings, Xband mail, and "feel", it'll never do it for me. SOMEONE BRING BACK XBAND!

Don't forget your 'league of fighters' (LF) rankings.......those were actually more accurate than the official XBand rankings because of a couple of cheaters! If they can't bring XBand back, they should at least get those 4 theme musics from XBand onto Xbox live. That would be funny...

Sup Winner. It's been a long time man. I last heard you were studying or pursuing a career in engineering? So how are things going? Playing Soul Caliber now, hehe its definitely a different change of pace from og sf. I know you mentioned that you haven't played in awhile, but you never really forget some of the matchups/strats...sure the reflexes/reaction times have slowed for most of us old men, but we still find ways ;) I wish I had a chance to play you in person when I was still in school up north. Your guile was insane :karate:

As for the other xbanders, I know Cyko has a myspace group just for Xband. Alot of former players have posted or signed their names on that group. I can only give a little info regarding some former players:

Virus (U*D) graduated from UC-Riverside..when i last emailed him, he was still into fixing cars ala Toyota Supra.

Killa King NBK, haven't had contact with in over 6 years, but when I was in school I randomly stubbled onto an Xband site. I posted some of my memories, then shortly after he literally posted numerous times about how he could beat me. When I look back, I should have played him for old times sake (at the time, was busy with school). I think I still remember his email...maybe I should challenge him on Zbattle

BTW, Catalyst/Piffle I came back to Live for over a month now. If you want some games just let me know. I usually play on Sat/Sun. Fear warning, I'll probably only use shotos...since that's all I can use on stick ;P

Whoa, you use a stick now?

You're the best person on a pad I've ever seen.

I don't play old school SF2 much any more, kind of moved on to 3S, but if I do come on for a little bit I'll look for you. Glad to see you back on Live though.

Oh, and beware of AfroLegends. He's one bad mofo.

How did they do that? It was nuts, I don't ever remember having lag issues, and when I got SF for xbox, I was kinda shocked, cause I had broadband...!

My dad works for the phone company, and his explaination was that the phone companies only keep the lines as effecient as is required by law. Before, they focused on a good quality connection, but now they use average to bad dialup connections as an incentive to sell DSL service. that is his theory, anyway.

All I remember about the soundtrack was chuck d sampled... "Hear the drummer get wicked!"

I think I still have the xband cart and the keyboard around here somewhere... I wonder if I can do anything with it?

I remember playing xband one time on a friends account. I played mk2 one game and there was lag. I have no idea where the dude was from but i stop playing after that.

Also I have to say that SFAE has a really good netcode imo. When I play people from the EC that are relatively close I can't even notice any button lag.

DreamTR
02-18-2007, 09:09 PM
final_cut, back then DSL and Boradband were basically non existant. It was peer to peer, and worked amazingly well.

Captain Ryu: MK2 for SNES was laggy. Not for Genesis. Genesis actually was better and faster, no noticable lag whatsoever.

Winner! You're right, once the cheaters began, the national rankings were a joke. Back at the end, Dark Gaiden and Vintage were near the top, but no one was even playing anymore at that point. All the good players really stopped playing 4-6 months before it shutdown, I still don't know how those guys can keep playing Zbattle and Kaillera for SNES SSF2. Then again, I don't know how this scene stays alive with old games, no arcades, and less than stellar players these days. Ah, the good ol days.

Final_cut, I sent you a PM

I personally think the net code on SF3 3S is the best I've played.

ZBattle has the best net code for any of the SF2 games, which is why people still play it, in my opinion.

I thought XBand's net code was crap, especially compared to XBox Live SFAC games.

SFAC games on XBox Live lag a lot less for me than XBand games did.

Catalyst, you must not play 3s offline at all or something. The netcode for 3s is horrible. You can't parry precisely at all. 3s online makes CHun-Li look bad, and makes Urien look impossible to beat with random projectiles that you can't parry, and endless shoulder rushes.

Xbox Live SFAC netcode is horrible, plain and simple. Can't play footsies much at all, pausing here and there with certain people, Xband's netcode was really good for Genesis, and poor (MK2, 3) to average (SSF2), but even so, it's better than what we deal with online now. DOA4 and MK5/6 to me play the best online.

CVS2 is not bad, everyone used to rolly/scrubby for the win at one point, though.

CigarBoB
02-20-2007, 04:27 PM
HSF2's net code is much better then CvS2's. And I agree about 3s.

SSF2 on xband was still the best of them all. Some times it was almost like Dream was sitting right next to me. Lucky he wasn't cuz he would have had a knife through his heart back then. God I wanted to kill him so bad!

Oh and when he got his CnL stick for snes it just got worse.

Have you played XBox Live lately? I seem to hear this from people that haven't played on it in months.

It's really good for me. Very close to playing in person. Maybe it's where I'm located and my connection speed. *shrug*

Xbox really fuckes up your game. If you play on live and then expect to play the same off line you will be in for a rude awakening. So many things are so much easier to do and you will begin to alter your game to work better for lag. That is where the real down fall comes.

LIVE sucks. But its better then training mode.

I have to say that I can get connections that feel like offline speed with certain people in some games. Usually only people that are in or not too far from the NY area.

I have to say though when it comes to netcode I think CFE and AE have it the best.

i used to play on xband under the name Grail NBK or something like that

mostly KI or MK2 or Doom

I ran into Finster on UMK3 a month or so ago, no idea if its the same one from PI

i miss the free long distance calls when long distance cost a lot of money. record the sound on your TV and play it back into the phone all hackers style, or play it into a pager then it'll be like are you sure you want to send "4823908439082" then just use that code

remember the trick, reset as its connecting and you get 2 wins instead of 1, then just do it over and over and over so you'll get 100 wins off of 1
