I heard the T5DR sticks @ Oakland don't work properly. Unfortunately, I'm more of a stick player instead of a pad player so I'd like those sticks to work correctly. If you are interested in playing T5DR, I suggest you try making it up to Pinball Pete's in Ann Arbor. I don't play much anymore, but I'd do my best to show up if you can make it.

It's true that you can use your own stick, but the only stick I have is a MAS Stick. I've never carried it with me to the arcade before and most likely won't in the future (too bulky and makes you look like a nerd carrying it around).

Sticks are most likely better at Pete's than at Oakland (at the moment). Plus, there are two machines there: one machine is set to 50 cents start/25 cents continue. Good deal for those who aren't that good and want to get more game for their buck.

The only con is that card readers aren't working. Actually, 2P side card readers only have coins in them last I've been there, so you can either a) jam your card in until the reader recognizes the card or b) do a little bit of excavating and dig out those coins. If successful, the cards will fit properly in the slots and you'll probably get a few quarters out of it too.

Just let me know whenever you or ShawnTackle visit. I only play Tekken unfortunately, but there are a few that play CvS2. (I believe they monitor this thread, but not sure).

I don't see why a competitive player would intentionally pick lower tier characters, just to prove that it's their skill that wins. Skill almost always wins. That's a given.

I would bet that tier trumps skill maybe .1% of the time. The players would have to be at an absurdly similar level of skill for tier to make the ultimate difference. Unless you pick a ratio 4 King in S-Groove or something, and at that point you're just using the wrong tools for the job.

Simple Directions - Obot's idea.

IRC is basically a bunch of chat rooms.

Mirc is the program most commonly used to Reach IRC.

When you first start up you will be asked to select user names and server.
Search around on the server list, for EFnet, It doesn't matter which one you choose, As long as it says EFnet "there are a bunch with EFnet in the name" Basically.

Once all of that junk is set, you click on the little Lightning Icon, it will connect you to EFnet.

Once you are connected, click on the "Commands" tab, and select join server.

Type In , MIG in the field and it will automatically connect you to our server.

If you don't see me or muffdaddy in the server you are probably not connected to EFnet.

Although it's not a big reason, the fact that school is almost over for quite a few students always brings the crowds down this time of year. Typically when the weather gets good enough here to the point where you know it's not going to snow again has the same effect.

My solution, if only for a little bit, was to draw more of a crowd for AA Pinball Petes by having the tournament there. That way, they could prolong a little of their business before and after the tournament. But...they didn't listen, and apparently they're paying for it. They can't be making money at this point and they have so many opportunities to do so. They know summer is a slow time, but I don't see what they're doing to alleviate the situation. Also note that w/o the players, PP hasn't really held a tournament in over 7 years in regards to fighting games. Every one of them held has been through a gamer: Rusty, Cheese Master, myself, and to an extent, George Massu. All of them are either gone, doing other things, or taking their business elsewhere.

Even w/o CvS2 and 3S, this is going to be the largest tournament a MI arcade has seen - even beyond Wizzards. PP needs to carpe diem...but it's too late from my perspective.

Alright, seems like I have to take the initiative on these things:

1) How 'free' is everyone? I will be working Friday, but only a half a day (until 12pm). I like to leave as soon as possible (I have been told about the construction traffic in that area, and I don't want to leave on Saturday b/c there's a big chance that traffic will be terrible that day and I don't want to end up being late and losing a chance to participate). I also will be going back home on Sunday (basically staying the entire weekend). As an advanced warning, make yourselves available for the all weekend deal. If you can't, then you can't come with me.

If you can, move onto 2):

2) I can drive, but I can only hold 3 passengers comfortably in my car, unless one of you is thin and really doesn't mind sitting in the middle back seat for 4 hours (I may make a rest stop somewhere in between so someone can rotate), then 4 passengers. If there are 7 people that want to go (excluding myself), then that leaves 3 of you behind. Nothing I can do about that.

Next...

3) I don't know how many people from AA are going... I believe Rusty's the only confirmed body, possibly Kolonji (if he doesn't work that weekend)? I do play Tekken, so not sure if any Tekken heads are gonna want a ride too. Anyhow, I will call them today and ask if they want to come. If it turns out that they can't/don't want to, then I will immediately post up and let you all know how many spaces I have left.

All out of towners will have to come to AA. I believe my place is a lot easier in terms of parking cars over the weekend, so I can give you my address later and you can find directions on how to get here. More details later.

4) I will reserve a hotel room today (or attempt to). I was able to find the hotel that's right next to Nickel City, and they seem to have vacancies so I will reserve a double bed room today.

5) Be prepared to have cash on you for lodging, gas, and food. I'm going to use 4 people (including myself), so if I end up having 5 people then of course per person cost will be cheaper.

Here's an estimate (over-estimate, but better be safe than sorry):

Lodging: The two-bed room is at $77 a night. I will get the exact price, but if there are going to be 4 people in that room, then it'll be $19.25 per person, per night. I don't know if there are taxes to go with that, so you may end up dishing out a bit more. I'd say keep $40-$50 for this weekend for lodging.

Gas: I will undoubtedly be filling up at least twice for the entire to/from trip. With gas prices as they are now, I fill up at around $40 a tank. I am going to start with a full tank and will be coming back home with a full tank, so you can bet I will be filling up just before I arrive home to drop everyone off. So... let's say $120 for gas this weekend. That means $30 a person for gas. Might sound steep, but hey, better than driving by yourself and paying the full price.

Food: I don't know your eating habits, so you can bring whatever money you have left for that. I think I have a mini-cooler somewhere, so I will be bringing myself a few beverages and possibly snacks.

That's about it for now. Start saving up money for the weekend and make sure you have it b/c I won't tolerate "IOU's".

Room has been reserved. Few things about the room:

1) It looks like there is a maximum capacity of 4 guests per double-bed room. Not sure if it's possible (or advisable) to sneak in a 5th person. So the 5th person estimates are out the window.

2) There might be a 12.00% check-in tax fee. Don't know what that means just yet, but if it is what I think it is, be prepared to dish out some more cash.

3) I don't know if any of you are planning to play games on Sunday. If so, then you might be out of luck. I'm only getting charged for two nights (Friday and Saturday night). It'd be nice to leave Sunday morning.

So... here we go (again):

Lodging: $154 total (2 nights). Each person pays $38.50 (~$39). If that 12% tax fee is included, then total will be $172.48. Each person pays $43.12 (~$44).

Gas: Still probably going to be same as mentioned in my previous post. (about $30-$35 a head).

4) Please don't forget to register for your tournament games. (I just did now).

I have no idea who initially set up those plans. I don't keep much tabs with the SRK people here, but figured I'd offer my assistance if needed.

Hey Matt, the Evo tournaments don't start until Saturday. Friday is just side tournaments, I believe. However, the Saturday tournaments do start pretty early, so it's recommended to leave very early to compensate for traffic and whatnot.

But if you can't make it, then we'll do our best to rep MI.

It depends on which Pinball Pete's you're referring to. The one in Ann Arbor is busier overall compared to its Lansing counterpart.

Also, you came on a wrong weekend...I'm sure you couldn't control the date, but the vast majority of players went to Ohio this weekend for a huge tournament that Fugee is holding. I think they went 15-20 deep. The few that stayed had other obligations (work, etc)

This year I went to Pete's a number of times: during the week, during the weekend, in the afternoon, in the evening. I don't think there's much competition for most of the fighters there anymore. Generally I see 2-3 people standing around the DR machine, and sometimes a person on CvS or Marvel.

Yea, I went to the arcade like 3 weeks ago and found that the 3s machine was dead. Then I came back like a week ago and nothing had changed....they hadn't bothered to move it or put up a sign or anything. Considering how little play that machine got over the last 2 years, I think it's pretty safe to assume that 3s is gone for good.

*edit* To my surprise, they have 3s back up now. But, at the moment both sides are fucked up.

who here is going to NEC, if anyone is carpooling let me know if there is room, I want to come with you, I can also pay my fair share of gas/hotel fee.

This year I went to Pete's a number of times: during the week, during the weekend, in the afternoon, in the evening. I don't think there's much competition for most of the fighters there anymore. Generally I see 2-3 people standing around the DR machine, and sometimes a person on CvS or Marvel.

No offense to anyone, but they (PPMgmt) deserve what they get based on what transpired over the past year.
