Good parrying and punishing ability you have. You should start using Ken, cause he has a lot better chance against Chun than Ryu does imo!!! You have the basics down for sure, so I dont think it will take you too long to learn Ken.

My thoughts exactly. The 3s OG's of BC are (in no particular order) Navid, Sal, Tao, Allan, Keni, Ernesto, Miguel, Chris F, Dave F, Mazdak, Tariq.

All the new comers should be ranked and should compete in some type of ranking battle to see where you guys stand. We know where we stand, because we've been playing each other for years. I mean this in no offense, but you guys are not yet in the same level as BC's OG players mentioned above. Except for Baofu, I have not yet seen his game and he did beat Navid 1 out of 3 in their last money match so he's obviously not a scrub but a new comer. But it's clear to see that you guys are improving greatly. Jesse improves a shit load everytime I play him. Victor's yun was like what the fuck, where did he learn all that combo? And jjj improves at a ridiculous rate it's not even funny. And Tariq, I don't believe Victor and JJJ's Dudley is better than Migs, no way! You must have been joking. Roy, you have to admit HAS improved a lot too. And Ryan beat Tao in a best of 1 team tourney. That's an obvious improvement. Lol, fucking best of 1s are insane. Hanz and Gian are improving fast. I'm having difficult with my Hugo against them now. Mike I haven't played in ages but I'm sure he's improved. haha I'm fucking mentioning everyone here. What the hell. My thoughts exactly. The 3s OG's of BC are (in no particular order) Navid, Sal, Tao, Allan, Keni, Ernesto, Miguel, Chris F, Dave F, Mazdak, Tariq.

All the new comers should be ranked and should compete in some type of ranking battle to see where you guys stand. We know where we stand, because we've been playing each other for years. I mean this in no offense, but you guys are not yet in the same level as BC's OG players mentioned above. Except for Baofu, I have not yet seen his game and he did beat Navid 1 out of 3 in their last money match so he's obviously not a scrub but a new comer.

What ever happen to top tier players training new comers for a match. Was it Tao training Ryan vs Keni training Mike?

See, that's the problem. I've played for over three years in Toronto and since my arrival in August here in Vancouver. I'm not a scrub, I'm an experienced player who's plied a lot of his trade in the game he's played in.

I'm at the point where I need to regularly be trained by playing against some of the top players in order to improve further. I can't improve simply by playing guys like Ryan, Mike or what have you, but by playing against the likes of Navid, Miguel, Keni and Tariq, I can. It's how I was able to hold my own against the best in Toronto, by constantly being forced to sharpen my skill, to up the ante and to get even better at parrying by playing against skilled 3S players who diversify their attacks to confuse my parrying attempts.

I have doubts that Simon will be able to beat Groundmaster as GM does take a lot of games off me as well and overall I believe I can beat Simon more often than he can beat me. I put him up there because he also has about the highest potential to be good because he's not doing crazy combos nor supers and is still able to compete with us and sure give us a run for our money. I think hes either 50% against me or maybe higher than that even. But being in K-groove he does lack some assets against roll cancelling but thats easily learnable as he plays more. He doesn't at all play outside of UBC either. Chris F once swore aloud after playing against the Groundmaster as he got turtled to death or something to that extent. GM knows how to beat everyone but yes execution is a problem thats why hes still containable hehe.

Notice this is pure speculation on my part and probably isn't totally accurate.

I play k-groove of course.

My top team is still: Blanka, Geese, R2 Sagat.
Other variations may include swapping out blanka for either Rock, Cammy, Rolento, Ryo, Gief etc...

Hard to say because GM hasn't ever played in a tourney before :P He knows he cant super as well so he cant punish with big hits nor can he do setups into supers. If he can do a super, his game will change a bit IMO.

I don't care. This is getting out of hand. Let's have monthly ranking battles and MORE tournaments. That way there will always be different placings and we can all just get a feel on how good everyone is. Remember when it used to be "fun"?

Like the more tourneys the merrier. If you guys can make videos, I'll make a website for 3s bc scene, and I'll ask keni, Hanz, and Gian to give me a hand with the site if they like. I need to make a website for my final project anyway. So people can actually see bc footages. Let the world know the likes of Archer v.2, atmspidertao, nanitaberu, shmoke, etc. There's only a hand full of bc vids out there. And I've only seen like 2 of them.

My parents arent really mad and they dont know about drugs or what we do. I just actually have been feeling like a sack of shit so I told a couple people a white lie.

Maybe tournyments are more fun but

a) not everyone will ever be able to turn up

b)they don't really determine anything you didn't already know, if peoples skill levels have changed drastically then just call out a top player. Thats what i'll probably do if I become really good. But I actually doubt ill have to just because if i'm that good I dont think anyone whose good in BC is gonna argue that and they'll be honest about what they see in other peoples skill.

I think tourneys are great, cause it allows for the newbies (like Darnell and myself) to meet the majority of the community. Unfortunately many of you have never met Baofu but the guy is really good... he beat Darnell Jesse and me like 40 straight and although I'm pretty scrub it's still an impressive feat. Plus tourneys bring in completely new players to the game... like lets say that a CvS2 junkie comes and sees us all playing 3S... and he's all like "Shit yo! I gotta get in on this!" and voila we got more competition.

I do agree that not everybody can make it to tourneys (believe me I'm a full-time student AND a member of a very dedicated band) and many of us are poor (again, me) but at least there is an incentive for us sucky players to get better... dreaming of making top 5 or something.... tourneys FTW in my opinion.

I need to get noticed. Three years of 3S and not a single notion. I don't even think the Toronto players remembered a guy in a bowler hat competing in the harsher venues of Funland and Chinatown Centre. That was me, god dammit!!

Last time I tried going to Ryan's I got lost! I need an address so I could at least stumble over in the general direction.

Dammit, I need to get better and I want, no, need redemption for the $30 I lost so far.

I was one of the biggest scrubs in the 604, so I feel you more than you feel yourself.

Even now, players like Tao and Ernesto have doubts about my level of play, because only about a year ago they were streaking me for 10 to 30 games on a regular basis.

If you haven't noticed, everyone who tries to prove themselves by defeating an "OG" player seem to pick me lol, it appears that I appeal to them as the weakest link

but anyhow, I'll tell you the 'secret' in becoming a feared warrior:

I think only another tournament would solve thise debates. But with so many factors like: some are only good on arcade cabs -> some are only good on US or jap cabs; only way to play US stick vs Jap stick is on console....

so unless somebody bolts down a console stick onto a solid table to mimic an actual arcade cab, the debates may never end.

Not only that, but some players are weaker vs other players. So many factors, so little braincells to figure out a solution.

Honestly, just play Makoto like you are now and maybe work on execution a little more and you'll be fine. Makoto's a slot machine like I always say and will have her up and down matches against everyone. Theres no surefire way to teach you to be better against a certain character other than saying practice your hi low games more and your cross up games more. If they guess wrong, they lose fast, if they guess right, you won't be able to do enough damage to kill them before they kill you.

You'll probably have it easier against chun than honestly against ken who has a free 0 meter reversal that has invincibility. The only thing Chun can do is use ex SBK to stop your rushdown or ex lightning legs, which both cost meter that Chun can't really afford to lose too much of whereas Ken can spam uppercuts to get out of Karaku sa mix ups or instant overhead mixups. Chun li's backdash is also slower than the shotos which leave her less room to just backdash her way out of problems.

What you want to avoid is needlessly taking free damage from trying to jump into Chun at poor angles because theres almost no way to air parry your way through if she buffers lightning legs after back + fierce AA. Make your way in safely and proceed to rushdown. She will have to EX her way out and put you on the search for an opening again but if the dice is in your favor, you shouldn't have problems :P

I don't think K-simon should be ranked at 6. Ive beaten K-simon with Raiden, Ryo, Gief, Haohmaru, Honda combinations in K groove. He knows his stuff but has a very linear pattern of attack, no offense but just my 2 cents on playing him.

Korean-Guy definitely knows his stuff but I doubt Chris F or GM or even Ron would lose to him in a pride match. People seem to just laugh at his combos and get hit anyway hehe.

Since Kostas hasn't played for ages, I think a lot of us are much closer to him now than we ever were, so Id say expect the 3-6 positions to interchange quite a bit in the future.

Moses wouldn't lose to Scruydan either with K-vega because he likes to abuse the low jump which can eat scruydan for free.

I might interchange K-simon with Chris F but then even so, I remember Ron being able to beat Simon as well so...

Hard to say. We'll have to play for it :P

Navid you are good at CVS2, I've had some problems with your RC'ing, esp the Vega RCing, but you seemed to be into the game for a week at a time then stop playing. But you def. have the potential to be one of the best if you wanted to.

There's a common sentiment I'm feeling on this topic... Everyone seems to know what they're truly capable of, where they could potentially stand. However we're lacking any scientific method of proving it beyond a doubt... Yeah that sounds kind of stupid but we're all resorting to "so and so is better than so and so", when what we actually need is more tourneys. So if people aren't willing to join tourneys, they should probably shut up about rankings?

Another thing that I believe that was first mentioned in another thread somewhere is that just because you can beat a particular player over 50%, doesn't actually mean you should rank higher than him. Every player no matter how good, is going to have his nemesis, a guy who isn't 'as good', but can beat him. Perhaps he's very comfortable playing against your style. Maybe he can read your mind. But for some reason, you just have problems against this guy. And maybe this guy gets destroyed by players that you can beat easily.

That's why people use tournament placings as an accurate measure of how 'great' you are. And this is only possible if tournaments are _frequent_. So for 3s's sake, Tao and Navid are absolutely without question the top 2 out of the players that attended. For CVS2, the last tourney proved that Tao and JJJ are without question the top 2 out of the players who were there.

The inaccuracy is proportionate to the missing top players. The tourneys here have so much time in between, that some players are completely out of practice and the attendance is extremely random.

Navid you are good at CVS2, I've had some problems with your RC'ing, esp the Vega RCing, but you seemed to be into the game for a week at a time then stop playing. But you def. have the potential to be one of the best if you wanted to.

There's a common sentiment I'm feeling on this topic... Everyone seems to know what they're truly capable of, where they could potentially stand. However we're lacking any scientific method of proving it beyond a doubt... Yeah that sounds kind of stupid but we're all resorting to "so and so is better than so and so", when what we actually need is more tourneys. So if people aren't willing to join tourneys, they should probably shut up about rankings?

Another thing that I believe that was first mentioned in another thread somewhere is that just because you can beat a particular player over 50%, doesn't actually mean you should rank higher than him. Every player no matter how good, is going to have his nemesis, a guy who isn't 'as good', but can beat him. Perhaps he's very comfortable playing against your style. Maybe he can read your mind. But for some reason, you just have problems against this guy. And maybe this guy gets destroyed by players that you can beat easily.

That's why people use tournament placings as an accurate measure of how 'great' you are. And this is only possible if tournaments are _frequent_. So for 3s's sake, Tao and Navid are absolutely without question the top 2 out of the players that attended. For CVS2, the last tourney proved that Tao and JJJ are without question the top 2 out of the players who were there.

The inaccuracy is proportionate to the missing top players. The tourneys here have so much time in between, that some players are completely out of practice and the attendance is extremely random.

Off to another topic. I like watching SF match vids, so here are some of my favorite players of late.

Yamazaki (Twelve) - From the KSK Ranbats. This guy is amazing. Fun to watch. He always loses to Chun if you notice. I've seen more 12 players of late acutally...

Aruka (Ibuki) - Very smart player. His mental game is very strong. More proof that your choice of character is not as important as your own fighting prowess. Ibuki is actually quite strong, and the block damage super is super annoying.

Dan (CVS2) - The guy who uses Ryu/Ken/Sagat... my favorite CVS2 player. He uses the same team as me not surprisingly. This guy has maximum balls.

Combo Fiend - Fun to watch, great intuition, original teams.

I think the problem with people thinking they know where they stand, is that they're wrong. We have a lot of fucking scrubs here in BC. I was talking to Tariq about this last night. A lot of the players now don't care half as much about the competition as they do the rank. They dont care like we used to back in the old days. We wanted to kill our opponent, not learn from them. Most of these players have the wrong mindset. We never asked questions. We never said "do you think i'm getting better?". We never changed our characters multiple times without becomming GOOD with the one we chose.

We didnt care about rankings, we cared about who, individually, we were better than.

That's the difference between players like me, tao, tariq, mazdak, sal, chris f, ernesto, keni, and even roy and alex and allan, compared to the rest. You want to get good? Actually try.

If Ryan's place is open Ill be glad to money match you in CVS2, Sal. My rankings are just personal opinion based on my experiences with those people and yes they are not 100%. I don't think anyone can accurately rank the top 10 as anyone has a chance to win given an arbitrary day but some people just win more than others.

I like Chris' description about certain people doing better than others against certain people which is completely true and part of the reason why rankings are skewed as they are. Groundmaster can beat me really well because of his playstyle. He usually tries to run me out of meter when I get raged instead of trying to fight back. Also... Another example would be certain players are more susceptible to rushdown than others. Like Navid and Tariq in my opinion is easier rushed by me than lets say Tao or Koost because theres just some poke patterns that Navid and Tariq are not familiar with (Rock's corner mixups) and will just let me build enough momentum to run them over. Conversely, I probably do worse against Tao and Kostas then against anyone else because of how they use RC to keep me back during rushdown. Consistent RC's is really good against me as I never give my opponents credit in getting those down so consistently.

I might go to Lesters tonight for some 3s/CVS2 so feel free to join me. Very tentative though but Andre and I plan to play some 3s.

I'm mainly for the tourneys just so I get to play other people and the scene... I'm very new to not only 3S but SF and fighting games in general... Darnell was the one who got me into them. So my level of suck is so sucky right now that it's unbelievable. It's hard to have the determination and drive to kill your opponent when you still have difficulty super arting. At least with tourneys and casual play your skill increases... I think this is why us scrubs ask you guys if we're getting better etc.... I unno.

and about players, i agree Dan is GOOD. but more than anything, i like his playing style. i wont go as far as to say that turtling is scrubby, but there's an utmost respect i have for those fearless rushdown players. i saw some matchvids where he traded with d44.. Dan is definitely one of the top players. But i think i like Nakanishi more than Dan. maybe cause he plays a beastly c-guile, haha.

imo, about money matches, i think tourneys/competitivecasuals are better than money matches. it's true that moneymatches give u crazy motivation but i think it's for the wrong reasons. either you're taking them to make money (which i dont blame anyone for, haha) cause u know u can rape them, or you're forking out money trying to make a name for yourself, OR you're bored as hell because there is no competition (like that time i paid tao off at UBC).

Tournyments are fun. But with the ammount of people who play 3s.

I just kinda agree with hockey and pro sports I guess. Playoffs don't involve everyteam. they involve the best teams. usually the 7th and 8th spots in each conference are up for grabs. Well thats an idea, we could have 16 player tournyments and force people to battle to enter the tournyment. Or at the very least we really need preliminary. I was actually looking over the sheet and there were errors. but tariq actually randomly choose from two people sometimes who was going to fight so and so.

like there would be andre. then there would be hanz len and chris f. he'd make like hanz and len play. then make chris f and len play. then the winner play andre. but really at the time hanz len and chris f were all in the same part of the bracket but he improvised a sub divide. not that it matters really. because really all that matters is if you can beat andre. but who knows what kindof shit can happenn when you got a 19 player tourny. gets confusing. people get called out and they play their games and then its like oh wait i called out the wrong two people.

I would personally rather see just a tournyment of the top people. Not for rank but to make people of mid skill level compete to enter and then you can watch and see a cut and dry tournyment take place. you can see how the people will advance and fall in the brackets without. unless you like the fun factor i just dont think if you really arent good, you should get good and then try to compete in a tournyment. tournyments are usually only for the best teams or players across all sports
