A mirror match of any sort is always hard to excel in. Whether its me vs Y or Tariq vs Gian. Its very difficult to just obtain the main advantage and control the match in my opinion when the match can go either way, especially if your knowledge of each other's attack patterns and skill with setups is very similar.

Mike, watch closely at how they control the match with Chun. Watch their poke tactics, patterns and how they bait their opponents to do something where they can punish them. Watch how they react to certain moves done by certain chars. Chun has a LOT of counters per each char's pokes. I.e. her standing HK goes over sweeps and if connected at a certain range, you can actually confirm it with a super. Ridiculous move. Also, her back FP pretty much cancels out any pokes and can easily be confirmed to a super as well. Basically, what you need to do is every time you throw out a move such as cr.mk, back FP, standing HK (over a sweep), you do the super motion and just press kick if any of them lands to confirm a super. Learn that and your Chun will improve a great deal!

Also, cr.mk hit confirm is done by doing cr.mk and doing the super motion (two fireballs) and then pressing a kick button if you see it hit. Chun has the MOST time allowance to confirm a cr.mk > super. It's not that hard to get used to. Ken's is a lot harder to confirm. Less frame allowance. You can practically take a toke in between Chun's cr.mk, then put the joint down and still have time to confirm. Lol. Ok, not exactly, but I'm making a point on how ridiculous her cr.mk confirm allowance is. It's absolutely disgusting.

A really important thing you should learn is what pokes to use against what characters the most, cr.mk does beat a lot but some people expect that, if you mix it up then it gets tricky, of course, if your going for the super, cr.mk is probably your best bet.

Just make sure your catching him in the middle, or earlier, of his dash in and NOT near the end where they can block already. Far easier to see than hit confirms and adding a hit confirm to it just makes it the more easier.

This one move alone works WONDERS for Lifetimeboy's Ken and it limits his opponents dash ins. Great secret. And now it's everyone's to use.

You can either punish dash ins with cr.mk > super with Ken. Or just throw them as the dash in. That works 100%. Same with Makoto, when they dash in, do either her grab move, regular throw, or cr.lk > super art 1.

Also, with Ken, when they dash in, just back dash and cr.mk > hit confirm > super. With makoto, back dash, hayate > hold > if they throw anything let go and hit them or if not, cancel with a kick and go from there. So may options.

here's the guide

just stay in two ranges... one is outside sweet range. where they'll jump in at you and you're at the right angles for an anti air. IE: standing roundhouse, crouching roundhouse, standing fierce, back fierce

and inside kara throw range. this is a good place because you can do THREE things

1. kara throw. kara throws are good and it makes your opponent wanna either counter throw, OR do pokes to prevent your pokes

and here comes the tricky part.

if you think your opponent is gonna THROW, do a crouching medium kick into hit confirm super. since you're out of throw range, they cannot throw you, and they'll just be in the throw animation

and the second part, is if they're doing a poke, you anticipate their poke by doing a back fierce and hit confirm it into the super.

that's ALL i do.

Mike, You do fireball motion with the crouching forward, followed by another fireball motion which you will hit confirm with another kick if the cr.forward connected.

So it's like a fireballl motion with the cr.f with another fireball motion. qcf.k, qcf. When done right, the first qcf.k will result in a crouching kick, not a standing one.

One down parry by the opponent and he'll be knocked down, and can't be launched. The aegis then dissipates. I'd just add a tackle or headbutt instead of the aegis then do the aegis when he gets up for a 50/50.

all you want to do is have to press kick to make the super come out, so you do the fireballs beforehand to simplify things. and the first fireball motion can be put inside your medium kick. (the kick thats gonna hit the guy low to cancel from)

qcf+k(kick is coming out) then another qcf(wait) if it hits press kick to activate super. this all happens in the span of like half a second though.

Actually, I use this method for Oro, but only when I'm linking my chicken combo into SAIII. I actually got the idea from Jinrai in Edmonton: just after the second chicken, you do a hadou motion, then put the stick in neutral position, MP, and do another hadou motion and PPP. It makes the super cancelling a million times easier and that's why I can connect with that super almost every time. The game gives you a suprisingly large ammount of time in between the two QCF motions.... but I wouldn't use this strategy for Chun Li... just Oro :D

Mike, there's no need to look to the boards for where you stand. The amount of times people over-rate themselves and under-rate others on this forum is laughable anyways. If you think you're better than another player, money match him, and that will settle things more accurately. My Ken sucks against ALL Chuns, not just yours, but your Chun IS good and you are definitely under-recognized at the moment, but just keep up the rate of improvement and that will all come in time.

For the low forward hit confirm, listen to Tao first of all, for his reasoning behind his choice of moves (I learned something from that post), and use training mode to first of all just be able to do low forwardXXsuper on its own without strain or effort. Then youwork on the hard part which is _not_ doing the super on reaction to the attack being blocked.

The way I do it personally, I just stick out the low forward as a low forward and nothing else, and if it hits, I decide then to add a super. Somehow by not thinking about a super, I don't have the tendency to want to do one (makes sense)... in the end i may miss a super here or there, but I won't get any blocked supers... and according to Game Theory, this is the safer bet.

I totally agree Peter. It's funny how many people think they're better than you after beating you in a matchup where your character has a serious disadvantage. When you get out-prioritized by just about every move, you need to find a way to win SOME HOW, but it can take a few tries to even find a strat or move that works. Your Oro is much better than your Chun results and is quite beastly in fact. I'd like to see you keep using him and improving like you have.

Chun just flat out pulps half the cast in 3s and merely wastes the other 25%.

The truest sign of skill to me, in 3s, is winning with low tiers. Look at Navid w. Sean, Tao with any character, me or Mazdak w/ Necro, Sal's Hugo.

Is it something like cr short x2 XX super with shotos that is hard? For shotos, that's pretty key, and with Ken you have the cr. strong and foward into shippu cancel which IS hard to get down consistently.

Oro ,you know how to exploit advantages such as Tengu Stone after a knockdown, and getting full damage when you get the launch. OK perhaps I throw out the world 'beastly' a little too liberally. I do have trouble beating your Oro with Necro, he's just such a small target to try to hit in general.

If you would rather use a different character, I really recommend just going ahead and using them from now on! I just did that with Akuma. I've always wanted to use Akuma as my #1 because I felt he suited my strengths and my tendency to want to use highly technical characters. For the longest time I just didn't believe in my ability with him.

Is it something like cr short x2 XX super with shotos that is hard? For shotos, that's pretty key, and with Ken you have the cr. strong and foward into shippu cancel which IS hard to get down consistently.

Oro ,you know how to exploit advantages such as Tengu Stone after a knockdown, and getting full damage when you get the launch. OK perhaps I throw out the world 'beastly' a little too liberally. I do have trouble beating your Oro with Necro, he's just such a small target to try to hit in general.

If you would rather use a different character, I really recommend just going ahead and using them from now on! I just did that with Akuma. I've always wanted to use Akuma as my #1 because I felt he suited my strengths and my tendency to want to use highly technical characters. For the longest time I just didn't believe in my ability with him.

Short short is easy enough... that's just mashing :P. It's hit verification that I have troubles with, ESPECIALLY on the 1P side. It's not that my reaction time is fast enough, it's just that I can't do the QCF x2 motion without jumping or something... I am getting better though. I was practicing today at Lesters.

Tao, my Hugo is apparently only good against your chun if we play at jzee's where i'm MOST comfortable. But I'm certain that my Ken will do a LOT better than my Hugo vs your Chun. A Lot better.

And I'm aware of how GOOD Allan's Yun is vs Chuns and vs all by that matter. He may not be able to do all of Yun's comboes the way Ernesto can, but his gameplay pretty much makes up for everything. I'm pretty sure his Yun can do that thing Tao tried to do, One guy vs BC, and be able to pull it off. It's that sick.

But yeah, Allan would be a sure bet to take you out Tao, far more than my Ken or Navid's Chun, but it doesn't mean that we can't do it as well. Like you said, it would be a coin toss regardless.

A lot of you may not have noticed, but I've been changing my Oro strategy quite a bit. I'm starting to realise the funamentals of the game. Before I used to play a 'tricky' Oro, where I did random shit or random parries and hoped for the best. Yes, this strat works on a lot of people (the majority of people, in fact), but you'll never see a top player fall for shit like that. Doing a lot of dumb mixup or those wakeup EX shoryus certainly play a large part of the overall gameplay, but they should certainly not be abused.

I've had the opportunity in the last few months to play a lot of good players at Lester's: Tao, Jesse, Darnell, Will, random Asian Ryu player who swears a lot, and especially Navid have all seen past my old strategy of randomness and hit me back hard. I've realised that the most effective way to play an Oro is to be as SAFE as possible... well, maybe not ALL the time, but for a great deal of the time. This means not doing the whole chicken combo if you already have super stocked, or being patient on wakeup. It's definately a more difficult way to play but is ultimately more effective. Watching Vic play: that guy is so good at just verifying and not making stupid mistakes, and it seems that the only time he'll ever be 'random' is with parries. I mean, random is good and all, and you can certainly win with doing wakeup supers and empty jump supers, but you'll NEVER see a top player do shit like that, and in turn they will NEVER fall for it.

That's my rant for the night. GG's everybody. It was nice to finally play against Mike, Gian, Vic and Tariq again.

Peter and his excellent Oro. One day, I will figure out what crossup is what and be able to block the right direction... one day. Your comment about your gameplay is correct though. I noticed less forced setups, and more overall defense and sure hit offense. VS Chun is pretty tough, so don't lose heart about that Chun roadblock. You'll eventually figure a workaround.

Hmm... I didn't get to play too many people in 3s though. Hopefully next time we all meet.

last night at movieland I figured out how to hit confirm cr.mk -> super... its actually not that hard... I find i throw less supers when i am tryign to confirm it... now i just need to practice it more cuz I was staring at the characters feet and just kept spamming the cr.mk when i saw it hit - i confirmed it :D

Lester's is really bunk. That place is getting worse and worse. Yesterday that fat chinese lady went apeshit on some guys in the LAN centre and kicked them out, and the guys proceeded to throw chairs and break her vaccuum cleaner and shit. It was kinda scary. And the sticks are kinda getting worse too, and Marvel is being silly as usual. Lester's is cool but I'd much prefer a console gathering.... but we can do Lesters. Movieland is too far out to go to for us.
