It was so quiet, I was like, the only person getting excited about it pretty much. Well Tao I wouldn't say you have no technical ability, I mean you don't screw up combos very often, so that's execution, which is part of the technical side of the game.

Okie, I'll try to write up on what I've noticed about people's styles on the games scene in Vancouver. Tao is right, everyone should do this cause everyone will notice different things about people.

Since you asked Miguel I'll start with you. I first remember you at Johnny Zees and I played you Ken vs. Ken and my friend Peter was watching. He said 'that guy kicked your ass' afterwards so I definitely lost badly to you. You did throw in the corner, juggle with Shippu super. So I thought, I am totally out of touch with this game, man. Anyways you use Dudley now. What is most difficult about facing you is the string of continued pressure after a knockdown of any kind. Many moves when you connect with them, bring the opponent into a juggle where if it's in the corner, I think you gain a good psychological edge.

Short,short super I think is the one 'killer' combo you should train to hit the most. That one you can sneak in because it's a light hit. Doesn't Dudley have a low pressure chain like low short-low forward? Mix that in more with the high pressure for a better balance and more difficulty to react to or predict. But I shouldn't talk since I usually end up eating the combo. It's already deadly but since it's the centerpiece of your game you should always always improve upon it and impose no personal limit on how good you can make it. Just perpertually improving.

The resets and high-low game in the corner is obviously where you're trying to get people. I have found that in ornder to beat you I have to be playing a strong anti air game, predicting your jump ins. I've noticed that after some quick flurries at mid screen you have a tendency to try to jump in a bit too quickly. When you get hit by my Necro low strong it means I've predicted your jump. Perhaps you need to play it a little more cool when you feel the pressure and jump up air back in that situation, or just fake out more? I'm not too knowledgeable about Dudley or what he's got in the 'safe playing' dept. He's rushdown, so I guess his weakness could be kjeep-away. Like how Kyo is in CVS2, always trying to get in for the combos and mixups. And I think you dwell too much on the fact you missed something earlier in a round that I feel it affects your performance in the round. I say that when you miss something, forget about it like it never happened and return the focus on what's happening right now. So often I've noticed that the opponent can also screw up in a round just seconds later and you can make up for it. Otherwise off the top of my head you seem to have Dudley down really well. What I noticed from Alvin is you can never know the range of your moves/ opponent moves too well. Standing at a range you 'know' is safe but the opponent doens't know, = free wins all day. Alvin was mopping me up with those tactics last time.

So in short, your Dudley I think should be more patient, because all it takes is one combo and you can potentially win the round.

I'll do one of these for all the 3rd Strikers at Movieland and JZees. Then I'll do CVS and ST later I guess...

Gumby: I have noticed that he uses a lot of characters. Yun, Alex, Yang, Akuma, Q, Probably more... I'd say the YUN is the most difficult to deal with, firstly because Yun is widely acknowledged as super top tier and rightly so. Gumby is really good at combos, so don't expect him to miss them, I think Gumby is a bit of a showoff and I should know this cause I am also a showoff. So basically unless it's a tourney I think Gumby is playing around and taking it easy, with brief periods of trying, where he beats you down badly. Saving energy for when it matters. When he's playing really well there's not much you can say wrong about his game. I've been mixed-down really bad at times. I think his other characters are quite good but YUN is more suited to his style because YUN is a laid back character, higly combo-oriented, requires creativity, so it's tailored to his style. Only thing I can say is that he doesn't seem to try hard some of the time so that's your chance to beat him?! LOL. Sorry Gumby for referring to you in the thrid person, haha, it's just that you rarely post so it seems appropriate. Yeah. I think Urien is another character Gumby is probably good at. Yang is good too, are you good at the Seiei Enbu super? That is pretty badass as well.

Vincent: What have I noticed about your playing style... You use Alex and Urien, I know that, I've seen you use Necro, and well, probably others but I remember seeing you beast with Alex and that I was impressed with your all around 'wielding of Alex', haha. I notice you play the game in a somewhat similar style as NAVID, in that you play the game at high speed. This can be good especially when you are doing rushdown, but what I have noticed is that high speed game can get a little out of control at times. Play top speed runaway to balance the fast rushdown, and practice turtling more. I don't know what character you consider your best so I've commented on your play style. You seem good at the Stun Gun Headbutt, you've got a knack for landing it on people.

I've played you in SUPER TURBO as well. You definitely know how to use the characters and your patience will increase with your confidence. You just lack experience because ST is all about the knowledge of the matchups.

Alvin: well all I can say is that I usually lose when I face you. Basically you use Ryu, Makoto and Ken. Ken is the hardest to beat. With Necro I have to try to stay out of the air and avoid the double shoryuken. I will practice the ranges better to try to avoid your sweeps, dashes better and land more strong XX ES on you. I tnink that you gained a stronger throwing game from LTB, but I have to say LTB's throwing game is still stronger. Otherwise is feels the same playing you or LTB in that matchup. You apply that grappling style where you stick to your ranges like glue and leave no unneccesary gaps in your attack presses and timings. What could I recommend? Relax more, less thinking, more playing by feel and intuition.

Navid: at JZ you're behind Alvin as second hardest to beat in casuals. I think a more laid-back style would elevate your game to the next level. Technique wise you can perform the tough combos, but I've noticed that you sometimes miss opportunities to punish on the most crucial points in a fight. A solution to this I recommend is to treat the game as being meaningless, playing like it's not that important, and to relax the muscles. That's the key to performing in those moments. Total relaxation. Otherwise you have fast reflexes and can play fast. You've improved the most at 3s for sure so I gotta try to get better to be able to beat you. At CVS2 your best character is Ratio3 Blanka. THat block damage is ridiculous. I know you hate that game though. At Marvel, your Cable is cheap. So that's a compliment, haha.

Tariq: I've mostly faced your Urien and I've never beaten you. I think you know how to beat Necro pretty well. You know the game more that I do so it's hard for me to critique your style. SUPER TURBO though your Blanka is fearsome, I really have a hard time with it. I think Blanka has a million tricks he can pull so I think you should work on those.

Mazdak: Along with Alvin you seem to know this game really well. What I am impressed with is the laid back style, playing with patience and knowledge. Well sometimes I have seen you play too agressive, I myself do this way too often though. Well I have no idea if you're going to the tourney but I think you would have to be one of the favorites, I guess you don't like the sticks though. I say give it a shot, though.

Dave F: You gotta stick with Q, man, that Remy shit isn't cutting it. Unless you start damaging people by learning some hit confirmation links to super or get a good throwing game going. Work on the parrying too cause Q is a big target and you have to be able to parry. You're good at using the taunt, and you're good at beating Necro with ease. I hate that fight. And stop using the critical combo super, use the Daily Double super. It's more violent looking.

I'll do CVS2/ST some other time. Did I miss some 3s players?

yeah, the biggest chink in my armor is my tendency to wanna jump in all the damn time. it killed me in my money match against Tao and it kills me against Alvin :shake:. the second is well, i can't uppercut facing right :lol:.

i will definitely try to be more patient and see openings instead of being headstrong and forcing one.

I always try to rushdown, no matter what.
I guess it's ignorant and stubborn of me, but I'd rather lose by rushing down than win by turtling. It's just a principle of mine; we come to play fighting games, not Mr. turtling chicken....I always question in my mind people who turtle: What are you so scared of? It's just a game, so why do you play so dishonorably? Face me like a man.

I admit, slowing the pace of the game is good and right, and that is neccessary. But if an opponent just runs away all day, wtf is he playing the game for? I don't care if I lose, i'll just start pressing the taunt button over and over.

Nevertheless I do need and do slow down my game, esp vs Ken and Chun, because they can readily punish my attempts to come in.

It is neccessary to turtle at times, esp in certain matchups (eg Remy vs Urien, Hugo, or Dudley) but that is all someone has, that's just weak.

I dunno, it's just my life principles that I apply in gaming; If you can't face it up like a man, you should go home.

BTW, this was not directed at anyone. Everyone here plays a good offense/defense style. It just disgusts me when I watch turtlers in videos.

Thoughts on Chris' gameplay: Force the opponent into the corner more, or throw them into the corner more. Necro's corner game is too good. After knockdown, fake out a throw (purposely wiff throw animation) and walk up. A lot of players expect a throw afterwards or at least a high hit, so try for a low LK into LP hook. Although I find Necro best with an "in your face" playing style, don't be afraid of playing the distance, esp ppl with nasty wakeups, like Ken. Most of the chars have pretty decent wakeups, but for those who don't (Urien....45 degree Aegis aside, Yun, Yang, Makoto with no stock) I personnally rush down like there is no tommrow, because that's where Necro's greatest threat of stun comes in.

Awesome man I appreciate the feedback and pointers on my playing style. You're totally right man I have to back off more sometimes against waking up players. It's that 'revenge' factor that I sometimes lose track of against people. I've been working on my 'Okizeme' with Necro and I have a couple new tricks to show you. And definitely I'm gonna try to throw towards the corner more.

Chris F: Thanks for the advice :tup:, it's just me whenever i play i'm always hyped up that's where i get my fast reaction from the adrenalin. :nunchuck: But you're defenitly right, got to relax more often, less thinking and more in feeling and intuition. LTB is really good in throwing games and by playing him, i've learned alot. I'm not really good analyst, but i think your Necro is getting better by the minute, i always see improvments. I don't know much about Necro, but I think you should explore more on him and watch more vids from the Jap players and get some tips from them. :tup: Good luck on the Tourney, i hope our practice session helped.

Haha, Seattle vs BC #R tourney would be too good. Hope it could happen someday. The group who plays regularly up here is ~8 people, and growing pretty quickly. I guess 12 if you count the Langley guys, who are apparently making a surprise appearance at the tourney. IT'S BEEN ALMOST A YEAR, GUYS :(

Tao wins Marvel, but I get the same amount of prize money, so technically I won Marvel as well.

All went well, except the tournament started a little late, and we had to stick to small TV sets. The losers' block was a good design as well since it gives players a second chance. I was also surprised that #R tournament had the most participants. (15, I believe?) Hope this is enough to get a GGXX #R machine at J Zee's.

Sounds like the tourney was fun and I'm sad I missed it (SC2 only got 9 people; God damn I wanna run T5 instead). Surprised you mentioned having a loser's bracket, 'cause that's standard for most of us. You mostly play single elim tournies?

Congrats to Stephan, I wanna play this guy. He looked mean as hell in those vids Sycho put up, and our only remaining Sol player doesn't use him in #R.

If JZ's gets a good #R cabinet, I'm sure myself and maybe 3-4 other Seattle peeps would be willing to drive up and play you guys during Winter break. Are they looking to get a Japanese cabinet or put it into an existing machine?

guilty gear was a good turnout... did i even beat anyone that was good? that stephen guy was pretty good, the shit he was doing reminds me of the sentinel commando traps in marvel.

i HELLA wanted to beat koost... holy fuck... RC's are hella good... holy shit... especially for homos without uppercuts... makes you play differently.

chris F is still my hero. aside from allan cabatic, i knew that guy the longest out of everyone at this tourney. except maybe gumby...

third strike was nutty man... sal getting third and taking out max and shit... gumby was tearing shit up but lost to navid in the end.

and most of all. my sincere apologies to bernie... cuz i forgot him at richmond when i finally convinced him to join.

will has red lips and ron stayed mostly quiet this whole tourney.

Terry: I was the most nervous I've ever been in the matches I played against your Johnny. Especially in Game 3, round 3 - after getting hit by the L2 Mist finer combo, that was too scary. Anyway, very nice to play against you in a serious matchup, it was a great experience. :tup:

Hey it was great to see all the familiar faces yesterday. I really think there should be a tourney like that at least once a month. I think it was really well run, and I know many people helped to run it, so thanks all of you.

Tao you were telling me b4 the tourney that you, Koost and Jay were all really close and it was pretty clear that you guys are just that but Koost, you proved you is the one the to beat and has "the belt" as Vincent would say. Nice job man, you have the highest level techniques here by far. Tao's tactics almost sent you to losers but you pulled it off and won the best way possible.

Tao I think you're going to up the level of your techniques like basically getting customs down perfectly, and comboing into them perfectly. And you're going to be unstoppable after that I think.

Jay is going to come up with something cheaper than A-Todo so we better be prepared for the worst. I gotta learn something cheap too.

Once I get down the RC, It'll be an all white man finals, guaranteed. Every tournament. LOL.

Unless Tariq starts using Blanka, R2 Cammy, and another strong P character, then he's gonna win the next tourney. FACK. I beat him game 7 in a best of 7 marathon where he parried me as much as LTB parried me. He used P-Ryu-Ken-Blanka. Awesome mang.

Miguel I got rocked in 3s. I only have a chance in this game with Ken. I can't exploit my worlds-finest uppercut with Necro. That's for Ken and maybe Ryu. My new characters, shotos! LOL. Besides Mazdak's Necro is the truth. His Sean, is also, the truth.

To be honest, this is my first big fighting game tournament. There was one at Anime Evolution this August, but it was tiny. There're only about 8 players in total participating in GGXX #R.

Congrats to Stephan, I wanna play this guy. He looked mean as hell in those vids Sycho put up, and our only remaining Sol player doesn't use him in #R.

I just talked to Stephan on MSN a while ago and asked him how he did in those match clips. He said those were possibly his worst performance, so expect something better when you play him. :bgrin:

I had to admit I played too passively yesterday, which wasn't good. I wasn't confident enough to attack you until I threw a Tiny Faust. You've got a lot better with Chipp and Baiken since the last time we played. Way to go, man! :tup:

By the way, I have an idea about keeping the tournaments going. If we host a tournament on a game every week, and switch to a different game a week after, we'll have a five-week rotation before we host a tournament on the game we start with. Say, we have a tournament on KOF 2002 this coming weekend, one on MvC next week, one on GGXX #R a week after that, and so on. Hosting one tournament at a time instead of five is a lot easier as well.

PS: Would it be possible to put GGXX #R in a Japanese cabinet? The American joystick feels awkward to me.

the really fluky thing that i pulled off was that bison teleport out of jay's super. I just mashed my hand on the buttons out of frustration and escaped the super and won the match after that.

I'll ask him, but I don't think he can make it. As for the console gatherings, Stephan and several other players do meet regularly, perhaps once a month; due to space problems, however, the gatherings aren't too big, only about 5 players at a time. I don't know other gatherings which I have never been to.

I think what Zig's trying to say is that Pot's not really execution-heavy like Venom or Eddie. Which is pretty true, his most practical and useful strategies don't require as much work to learn as other characters. (Mindgames are a different story though)

We do play #R at Stephan's place fairly often... we haven't played recently in the last 3 weeks 'cause of school, but before that it was every week or every other week. Always at least 5 people, sometimes up to 8. Also, me and a few others play #R 2 or 3 times a week at my place at the university here during the weekdays. 4-5 people regularly, a couple more on Fridays.

From reading the BC thread, I think most of the gatherings here are smaller and mostly at arcades like Movieland, JZs, or Rush. UBC arcade is always full of CvS2 players on Monday/Wednesday/Friday during the day. Only really large gatherings are tournies, which don't come nearly as often as they should...

Akao-Naw, I'm just talking about execution, 'cause Pot is the easiest in that regard IMO. He's actually kinda hard to win with in the long run, being a pretty flawed character, lol. That, and, well, there's Dizzy. 'nuff said.

Only 5 man gatherings? That sucks. We're hella fortunate, 'cause our host has a fairly large apartment with 2 TV's and plenty of room for a third one (usually mine, 'cause it's easy to move). We average 6-8 people and meet on a weekly basis.

If JZ's gets a good cabinet, though, that sounds like a good place to meet and play. Seattle and BC are the only two sizable groups of Guilty Gear players left in the Northwest, it seems.

Edit: Oh yeah, you all must start playing Tekken 5. Trust me.

And Gumby is better than me, but that was expected.

I'm almost 100% sure I can beat Sal, who came in 3rd. But Sal beat Gumby, who came in 4th. But Gumby beats the crap out of me. Why do I think I can beat Sal? Cuz of character differences; I personally think Alex has quite a big advantage over Hugo and Q, and is on equal grounds with Necro. It's not a challenge to Sal, nothing like that, it's just the tourney turned out the way it is.
Even in "theory fighter" I could not of gotten 3rd, because even if I was in Sal's bracket and beat him, I would of needed to face off Gumby, which would of been a loss for me, so I still would of tied for 5th.

I mentioned the ocv's to give further credibility to my skill, as to NOT give the impression that im fluky. I don't think im fluky at all.

It's just that I thought your comments were interesting, so I'm replying to them.

I guess "random" means that it's something that you're not used to seeing when you play the game.

For me, there are 2 instances of random: Controlled "random" (which really isn't random at all but a ploy on the other party which is a technique that whoops your ass that you're not used to) and Random "random"

My examples:
First time I played Tao, he got Miguel's game, so he used Dudley. Tao's Dudley was controlled "random" because he used really wierd shit to beat me, esp empty jump Corkscrew blow. Because that's the first time i've ever saw it, I got my ass handed to me by Tao in that money match. He hit me with that technique over 6 times over a period of 10 matches (Race to 7, Tao won 7-3). It seemed random to me because Miguel, the usual Dudley user, never ever did anything like that, nor did anyone I've played in 3S. It seemed random to me, because it was unexpected and effective, and that no one ever did that, but it was controlled. Controlled "random" is skill, I guess you could say that.

Another instance of controlled "random" is my Makoto. I don't use her too often. Most ppl when they fight Makoto, always are really scared of the karakusa, and always watch for it. Because my Makoto is only average, but I know that they watch for the karakusa, I never do it. Because they are looking out for the karakusa, they always get hit by my Makoto's pokes, jump attacks, and throws. And when I actually do DO karakusa, I almost always land it; my grabbing percent with Karakusa is like 90+% because my Makoto doens't play like most Makotos. It's a controlled "random"

As for random "random", that's just how it is. If someone doesn't really know how to play the game, and plays with very basic knowledge, they don't know the mindgames associated with the game, so in essence, they have no fear. Because of this, they do really awkward stuff that may or may not work. But because they're a n00b or whatever, they don't have a consistent playing style, so you can't read them at all. Because of the awkward style, your own playing style and pace of game is thrown off, so you may actually lose one set of games. But if you have like 10 sets of games against that person, you learn to read them MUCH more, and with superiour knowledge of the game, it doesn't become random anymore, and I'm sure that your wins percentage will increase exponentially. Random "random" isn't necessarily skill, but moreso luck and not knowing your opponents style.

We don't really hear "oh I beat this guy because he was so random" because we usually associate that he was a n00b or a scrub. Like, once you read random dragon punches, you block or parry, and you punish. Because we don't see that as random, just scrubbery, we usually would associate it moreso it with "oh I beat this guy because he was such a dragon punch scrub"

Personally, I play games without caring who won or lost. Obviously I'd like to win, that's the point of the game, but if I lose and have a lot of fun, it's 100000x more enjoyable to me than if I win and feel terrible at it.

My own example, as I have said before: I'll purposely lose my set before I win at fighting games by running away from my opponent. Winning by turtling just leaves me feeling like chickenshit. I feel that that isn't the true point of a fighting game. It's true that a win is a win, but I guess I have my own personal ethics in it. Defense is indeed a part of the game, however and should not be neglected.
A related point in 3S: Sure Justin Wong is one of the best 3S players in the US, but it's boring as fuck watching him play. Yea, i'm sure he'd whoop my ass bigtime in 3S, but I'll never stoop to the level of turtling to win at a fighting game. The japanese players are better than him; almost all of them rush down, why can't he? Chun can be played VERY effectively as a rushdown character.

I find competition to be fun, and I try not to make it into a bitter grudge match. Win, loss, "the belt" or any title isn't really too meaningful to me, cuz what I'm playing for is the BURNING DESIRE OF COMPETITION IN MATCHES! but seriously, when you're in the fucking zone, beasting on your opponent and they can't escape, that's the shit I play for, win or lose. It's all about the competition.

Well you've made it pretty obvious you don't know how double elimination tournaments work, which was all you had to say to avoid this whole thing. Since I'm in a good mood, I will expand your tournament knowledge today.

If Tao had won that game he would've won the set 4-3 (and pushed another set) because in double elimination tournaments you have to win 2 sets in the grand finals if you're fighting back from the loser's bracket. (Tao was sent there by Koost, and Koost didn't even touch the loser's bracket.)

Thats what I meant.

that way, in a best of 7 set in third strike, the most one could lose is $40, while the minimum they could lose is $5

and in cvs2, the most one could lose in a best of 3 would be like... $30, or $5

Depending on how things go, I want to play Sal sometime, but as casuals.

The reason why I pointed this out is because of character advantages that override actual player advantages; he's probably a better player than me with execution and stuff, but Alex just has an advantage over Q + Hugo. If he got good with Ken or Chun or whatever, he'd probably whoop me or something.

It's not an excuse or anything, but Hugo has a pretty ok fight against Yun. I watched the set btwn Sal and Gumby pretty closely. Whenever Sal got 2 taunts off from Hugo (defense + offense up) Sal won the round. Gumby's Geneijin beatdown, which usually takes off 30-55% off anyone else, resulted in about 10-20% damage. And with Sal's knack for pulling SPD after divekicks, and Yun taking heavy damage, it's hard to maintain consistent pressure 100% of the time for Yun. But admittedly, Sal has some mad skills: pulling that superair backbreaker on Yun's Fwd MK overhead, etc etc.

NOT A CHALLENGE. I repeat, NOT A CHALLENGE.

JUST RANDOM THOUGHTS.

Necro is ok against Alex, I think in VERY HIGH LEVEL PLAY Necro has a slight advantage. Necro has slightly below average defense, and slightly below average stun, and Alex has a long ass stun bar and higher stamina than the avg char, so Necro needs to be on consistent all the time, because Necro can't punish Alex's EX Elbow slash with anything, unless he parries. Which is a risk for him, because if Necro gets knocked down, he doesn't have a 100% safe wakeup apart from SA1, and Alex's biggest game comes to play when the opponent is knocked down.

I'm pretty damn sure Alex has an advantage over Hugo. Even though in all the JP matches I've seen it's been 50/50 for both, Hugo is the only character that all Alex JP players use Stungun with. Because it's HELLA hard for Hugo to escape Stungun setups. It is possible, but it's definitely hard for Hugo to avoid it.
Also, after dizzy, Hugo is considered crouching, so he takes an extra 25% damage, so that's quite a bit from HP FlashChop => HP Suplex. Hugo gets a defense up after holding his taunt for the 2nd time, if I remember correctly...or was it 3 taunts? First taunt is for all damage except throws, 2nd taunt is for all damage including throws, and 3rd taunt which you hold and continues to flex his arms is defense up. I think.

I want to play you again sometime, FOR FUN, because you were using SA3. Use SA2 next time, cuz SA3 stopped my jumpins. Anyhow, yea, for fun, not for coin.

just to let you know guys, i booked a flight going to Edmonton and they charge like over $200 for like 1 hour flight, i booked that flight months ago. But for sure right now, they'll charge even more because of the Holidays comming up. Unless you guys want to drive there, i'm guessing 16 hours of driving or more? compared to 3 hours drive going to Seattle. If i didn't have to go for the holidays on Dec. there isn't a Super in 3rdStrike that has a 0 frame start up. 1 frame is the fastest in the game. i think Gigas Breaker is at 1 frame. so is Yoroi Doushi and Shun Goku Satsu (aka, Raging Demon). Shinshoryuken maybe as well. not sure about that.

My friend and I have made a site www.illusionsofoasis.com It is a Canadian Street Fighter site that plans to unite the 10 major Canadian SF regions. The site design is done for the most part so what we are doing now is advertising it in hopes that we can attract as many players from each of the 10 regions as possible. More info on the larger scope of the site can be found in our statement, which is on the main page. I encourage everyone to join as the Canadian SF scene is not very united and this could be a good chance for everyone to come together. So far, I thank Justin (aka Nagata Lock II) for agreeing to help with communication among the Greater Toronto Area (GTA SF). If anybody else from any of the respective regions would like to help us, here is what we are basically in need of at the moment.

1) business people to help with the future services and business aspect of the site
2) advertising people to help promote the site in their respective regions
3) website caretakers to update the site as well as admins for the forums
4) content providers, which includes but is not limited to match videos, pictures, custom videos/tutorials, articles, and news

If you are not interested in being part of the team, then we would appreciate if you could agree to join the players league. An example of Eric (aka JS Master) shows what questions must be answered. dunno, ideas that come to mind right now:

- during tourney mark bc and seattle seattle ppl/matches (similarly for east vs bc and east vs seattle..although east would rape us in terms of quantity per quality), and whichever side wins most win champion of universe belt title best something

- exhibition style, each side chooses one dude (1 dude = 1 set), and do their thing..max 1 turn per dude of course

i like exhibition style, and since lanwerx is gonna charge us a flat rate for space, we should be good..although i dunno what zig and the others are gonna think about this, since this'll eat up some of our gathering time. i don't think they'll mind that much though..anyways, i know your'e reading, zig get to replying ye bald one

Chinaman-Hmm, I guess it depends on what we wanna do. We could just have a normal tourney and see who takes top spots (while doing a good job seeding of course), have a regular tourney AND some kind of side tourney for BC vs Seattle, or have it all be BC vs Seattle with a special format.

The old fashioned throw-down style is to have a team tourney. Considering how it'd just be two teams, though, we could do exhibition style.

Doing round-robin would likely take forever, obviously, so I guess we could come up with some way of matching people up. I dunno, maybe just list who all would be attending and ask who wants to play who? What about prizes and crap?

Heh, this could prove difficult to set up, but we have roughly 3 weeks to set things up. I think the main issue is with how many BC players can actually attend. Sounds like transportation is an issue.

Hey Ron, ever since SF Alpha 1, I've been using anti air supers and I know what you're talking about. I have a theory that if you're trying to think of too many counters at once, let's say you're thinking while miscreen out of range slightly:

I need to punish a whiffed move...
I need to anti air a jump, I think a jump is coming soon...
I need to punish the roll.. this guy is random...
I need to keep up the momentum...

That's way too much to keep track of I've noticed. By the time the guy jumps, there's no way to react to it because you're looking for too many things. If you're ONLY looking for the jump, you'll miss chances to counter something else.

When I was at B3 in 1996, I was debating this with James Chen, who used Zangief in SFA2. I had quite an inflated ego back then and claimed I could uppercut anyone who jumped on me at anytime basically, and I was totally basing this off my SF2 playing, which was a true claim but nothing special, as any good shoto should be able to do this, but this was SFA2, and James knew what he was talking about. I played Adon vs. his Zangief and true enough, he would jump at me at a random (ie. well placed jumpin) time and I could not DP it in time, in fact it came so fast (he used down+fwd knee) I blocked it intstead, then tried to reversal DPkick but I got SPDed anyways each time.

Anyways, I noticed in the Japanese CVS2 vids and such, that they hardly ever use anti air supers for a variety of reasons, Ie, the opponent is almost never going to jump at you when you HAVE an antiair super, it's too risky, and they also know it's too many things to react to if you're trying to punish jumps exclusively with supers. Stick to the dragonpunch moves instead. I've also noticed the top players almost never antiair a charged up A-groove because it's a clear setup to CC through the AA.

But yeah, what's a better way to land the anti air super, there's an old uppercut method that I use for Sagat in SF2, it's to DP motion and hold the last motion (off. crouch) as long as possible to allow the enemy sprite to fall as deep as possible so your invulnerability can beat the move clean. I've done this with Sagat's low tiger super in that you can do the motion slow and easy and let them fall deep into the super. Also you can do the motion a modified way so that in the super annoying situation where the guy jumps behind you, it'll correct the direction and turn around to hit him. You had Sagat super the guy the wrong way? Yeah same. Anyways also make sure to DP deep w. Sagat so you always get the backwards uppercut if they jumped over you.

So yeah, I think it's better to try to land your super in a combo, or counter-poke, etc... are you still using P groove? Or are you still playing A groove? I went 2 and out in 3s man, but it don't mean I suck at it. You should try to place really high in Seattle if you're going.

chris and ron... lol what game are you guys talking about? cvs2 or third strike? cuz cvs2 is HARD.. when people start walking up to you, you wanna poke, and if they jump, you first fuck up your poke and get discouraged, and then they usually cross you over, so you're fucked eitherway... in third strike, it's the EASIEST shit almost.... people with fucked up jumps like necro and yun who can change their rate of fall are difficult to beat... but anyone else... just use like chun, elena, necro... pretty much anyone who has an invincible AAA with a short meter bar, and you'll be set... i know your pain, jay used to beat my ass in cvs cuz he would jump over my poke and like... cross me over... when they're good, it's HELLA HARD to capitalize on something like this... and it's usually easy to tell when someone wants to do something like this. just keep play, watch out for certain things, and it'll come naturally.... it's all gettting used to your arsenal of moves. like when alvin in the first third strike tourney was looking to super on reaction to my standing fierce... i was able to trick him with universal overheads... and when i was only looking for koosta's dash into RC electricity, i lose my focus on other aspects of the game. just keep playing, but practice on supering all jumpins... it's why when you're in P groove, and jumping in trying to parry all the hits of an uppercut. it's HARD, cuz your opponent might not react fast enough or do something really stupid but totally random and yeah, you eat a standing roundhouse like hella early.

Sounds like a good idea... about not hearing any news, check out the other topics on this forum.. me and Paul were talking a lot about it.. basically, i told the Manager, he seemed to like the idea, he told the owner, and the owner couldnt argue with statistics, so now he's looking into a supplier to get the game ASAP. I'll ask the manager about the whole TV thing to attract interest etc, But unless we can make some sort of money off it, i dont think he will allow people to play for free (money means too much to JZee's i guess... =[) but yeah.. I'll still ask... With all this hype, i think it would be a good idea to have the combo videos atleast.. i really do hope we get the arcade.. but dont blame me if we dont.. I want it just as bad as you guys, but if the owner says no, its a "no"... just letting you guys beforehand to not hate me if we dont get the arcade. Chances are tho that we will.. heres to hoping!
