I guess I never bothered to read sithloard's edited post (he should have just posted a reply that said so) but his tournament is cancelled.

Anyhow, I guess I'll hold one. Everyone I've played at A3 online is not that good (no offense) outside of maybe sffan, Moley, "5", and a few others. I think a tournament would be a good starting point for people start learning how to play the game and maybe one day we could all be pros! :encore:

Anyone wishing to enter send me an e-mail at jhuang214@gmail.com. Im guessing target minimum entry is 12 people, and a maximum of 24.

Date will be announced once I get at least 12 people.

Well has always I am up for it. Is weird since yesterday I was playing in kalilera and I noticed that a lot of people are srcubish and only do random attacks. Has kalilera turn out to this?

I only remember playing you a couple of months ago and i think you were still learning the ropes of the game. You were just starting to learn V-Sak. It was kinda laggy back then too, but the time you just mentioned which was like a week ago or somethign? I couldn't even move right and I'm sure you couldn't either so I can't make a valid judgement of how you play yet. I'll file u under the "neutral" file lol

Heh. I can enter, but I know the tournament probably won't happen, or it will suck because of lag. If I start now, this pad might actually even be broken in and I won't be totally rusty from not playing the last few months. So much for buying a stick though.

You're #12 and Joe's #13. Now we definitely need one more person. Don't worry about this tournament not happening, I'm one stubborn mofo so i'm definitely going to make it work. Explains why I still use V-ryu and Jin in t5 when I could go easy mode and use V-sak and Steve respectively

HHMM seems im late. Oh well, I'll join if there is still an open spot or if someone forefeits. I did SFA3 tournament about 2 months ago in the Kaillera forums and it was somewhat of a drag. I made mines a 2 week tournament and it would have been finished on time if it werent for the 4 people that never showed up. So 4 weeks after I forfeited the missing people, we finally finished the tournament with the remainig people. LoL, I lost in the final round to Darknatas. Hope this tournament will work out in one day.

Hey Ryu1999, If you dont want to make the same mistake qwazy made when he was gonna do so his tourny today. I would suggest that you make this a multiday tournament. I know for sure youre gonna get messed up big time if you do it in one day with all the people talking at the same time and you trying to figure out whos their next oponnent. You can do what I did once and just have people post their winnings of their matches in the forum and then you can update the brackets here. But unless you are really patient and can take all the havok that a one day tournament will bring, then I guess you can go on with it.

Just a suggestion though.

I've never seen a multiday tourney work. A few of them completed, but everyone says they sucked and most people don't bother playing their matches. I've seen a million one day tournies work, and I've hosted a few of them, even impromptu, back in the day. And in all my one day tournies, there was pretty much no doubt that the best man won. This is both from real life and online experience.

This multiday tourney probably won't work either. I can tell you that I feel no sense of urgency to play my matches. I'd have to go out of my way, and theres no point to do that if its not one block of time. Also the point of tourneys is to play competition in one time span. It adds to the mental challenge, especially when you start getting to the semis and everyones good and you don't have much time to rest. It never gets quite as taxing as a real tournament when you're online, but theres still a certain bit of mental endurance needed if the tourney is done correctly. This one isn't.

I fully agree with serp, multiday tourneys remove the fun and urgency.
endurance is definitely part of the challenge that isnt apparent w/ online multiday tourneys...

though on teh flipside 50-some matches we had over 1-2 days was fucking taxing, serp

Oh, and where did my opponent run off to?

Kwaza

Hellsap, all tournament have their bad sides even if its a multi day and one day tournament, there always someone who doesnt show up in either. Now stop complaining and lets play our match. give me a time or look for me in the servers.

But i am a frequent alhpa 3 player and have been itching to join a tourney :( I wish i was in us.

Easier to point fingers than come up with a solution. Its practically impossible to get a whole bunch of people who don't have frequent contact to finish a tournament in one day. If you have a better idea I'd like to hear it as 1) I can't even find my own opponent, and 2) a lot of people can't find their opponents at all. Having immediate DQs would simply make this a 6 man tournament which would make it worthless

I don't think he's pointing fingers, just stating the truth. I've been in a couple 1-day kaillera tournies and they worked fine. All you gotta do is make sure that everyone exchanges AIM sreen names and everyone be online at a certain time. There was this one site where this guy had a pretty good system to run the tournies. give everyone 15 min. to find their partner for their match. If one doesn't show up, DQ him. It really is not that hard.

Any open spots left? If so, I'm in. I'll likely get owned hard, but I might make nice warm-up material for someone. I'll email you in a minute.

Which emulator's being used anyway? The best one (Kawaks) or the common one (MAME)? My vote goes to Kawaks, better interface and easier configuration.

Ok, some solutions.

1) Set a hard time and date, preferably a few weeks in advance.
2) Ask around, try to get people that you play to ask around and enter as well.
3) Get AIM sns and create a chatroom, or have everyone meet on mIRC. You can create your own channel in IRC instantly, and you can make that the official tourney channel etc.
4) Ignore people that say its a bad date for them. If they won't make the effort to show up at a certain time, they'll never show up anyway.
5) Ignore people that say multiday tournies are better. They are not.
6) Remain confident that people will actually show up, and then on the tourney date make the brackets after people get in there.
7) Make an emphasis to start the tourney on time/have a cutoff time for entry. If people come in before the first round ends, you might be able to add late entries, but that decision is yours as the tourney organizer.
8) Don't bother having a hard cap for entry. If you do have one, make it a higher number than 15.
9) Have an official emu and version. You've already done this one.
10) Don't worry too much about the turnout. Since this is the first tourney, you're more concerned on getting the name out. You'd be surprised if you just gave it some time who might turn up. Since winter vacation is coming up, I'll see if I can get anyone, that is, if you really are serious about running it.

And lastly, this isn't really tourney specific, but I think A3 is unplayable online without atleast Excellent connection rating. I tried playing someone yesterday with Good, and I couldn't DP lame jumpins that Id see coming a mile away. I have really good DP ability in the arcades and in excellent, on good I cant do anything. The guy I was playing, I beat him 2 matches and was winning the third, and then it lost connects and he claims I did it on purpose to avoid losing. Funny, he didnt win a match and was losing that one. I didn't feel like continuing with stupid delay. I hadn't touched kaillera for months, and only played a few matches at CTF on A3 in those months. Meanwhile I'm listening to this guy act like he's some God. I mention this because you actually said this guy was good, but I won't name names. Just a bit annoyed enough to rant about it though.

Kaillera really does suck though. I'm only interested in playing people I already know are 'good' and I don't mean only on kaillera good. Stupid shit works online that won't work in real life, or is way more effective. People use macros and turbo. It's not really a problem when you play with people that play similar to how they play in real life, but when people play a kaillera style it becomes stupid because it won't help you in real matches.

The KOF tourney will probably work because we had a decent community several years ago. Almost everyone that played back then also played heavily in arcades, and they bought this arcade style back to kaillera. Its not the same, but its certainly closer than learning on kaillera. I'm not sure if A3 really has this on kaillera. The emu sucks now and I think kaillera itself went down in quality. I kind of want to go back to the old emu and make that the standard again. I don't see it happenning though.

if you wanna win the tourney, follow these simple rules. pick chun and hit lk or pick gief and do his body splash. game over, you win.

ps: almost forgot, you can pick sak and birdie too and do the same thing

yeah that's the guy, aenima. IMO he had a pretty good system. I think you should be strict about the rules. BE ON TIME. give people there 15 min. to play find their opponent. IF they don't show up, then they get DQ'd. As for the aim thing, just make up a new screenname for the tourney.

Damn people complain way too much. All I see is people bitching about the tournament and yet they arent even putting an effort to play their matches. I bet no one even pm'd or emailed their opponents yet. Ive already had my match by private messaging my first opponent and I pm'd my next opponent as well. All you people who are still in round one, you guys need to stop crying like little babies and start looking for your opponents if you want to finish this tournament. And to the people who are still bitching, then just forfeit and thats that.
