link to hi res pics www.geocities.com/lazydel prolly wont work...

quick down and dirty.

pros

1.headset port for xbox live

2. very large, decent weight, with rubber feet for friction

3. artwork is nice

4. works for xbox and ps2

5. the joystick is weird looking but awesome. feels exceptionally better than my my HAPPS competition stick.

cons

1. parts are happstyle

2. parts are not happ

3. artwork is nice but its just a paper inlay under thin plastic
mine appears to have some moisture wrinkles also...

4. short @ss cord about 3 feet long...

I have a redoctane that i modded with happs comp stick and buttons, redoctane has similar weight at about 1/3 smaller size. Redoctane feels sturdier and is built with thicker particle board (arcade quality)SFAC has thinner particle board, but the SFAC Stick has nice graphics and is... uhhh official

OVERALL the stick is pretty nice but not exceptional the headset port really helps. if you have a nice stick already i cant recommend it unless you are a SF junkie and just like having official junk

PICS game play and moddability review to come!!!

The handle looks like a mix betweeen the ball and bat style. But the black just may be messing with my eyes.

Can you unscrew that bat handle off?

nope thats what it is a combo of bat and ball... it appears to be pretty functional feels pretty good in hand

It looks like a decent stick for beginners and people who dont want to pay a lot of money for a high end one. As long as dp's and fireballs are easy to do, that is all that matters to the newbie.

The Joystick part is the same as what is found in the X-arcade and the buttons are worse than X-arcade buttons. It's a much better price than the X-arcade though.

Should I get a Capcom Fighting Jam Real Arcade Pro Stick, HORI Real Arcade Pro Stick, or a SF joystick? I need to play it online on the xbox. Do magic box or dream box lag with those joysticks?

if you wanna talk junk while you play get the official sf stick from nuby. if you want the best stick get an expensive custom built or do it yourself. bottom line if you want the most portable stick get the nuby sf official, if you want the best possible stick get a custom built or one yourself. A REDOCTANE stick is a good start for building if your going that route.

the CFJ RAP is the same as the HRAP except for the artwork. the SF stick apparently sucks, so go with one of the others.

SF stick does not suck by any means... imo it is a great value. but if you want the best possible stick for competitive play get a custom built with arcade parts. the sf stick can be modded in that fashion. Ive posted pics of the sf sticks guts it is very easily moddable.

Is the sf stick clicky like the pelican or smooth like the arcade?

lazydel

Is the sf stick clicky like the pelican or smooth like the arcade?

depends on what you mean by clicky. if you listen closely you can hear the switches being actuated, ppl are saying most arcades use the 360's because they last longer they dont have the clicking switches. search forums ive heard the sf stick and pelican use the same stick.

So the SF joystick sucks? Is it anything like this?http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41054&item=8157860536&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW#ebayphotohosting

I hate that joystick. What are your opinions on it? Does the HORI Real Arcade Pro Stick lag with the dreambox or magicbox online? I don't want to get a custom one.

dude the SF stick does not suck!!! it isnt the best but it has a lot going for it... headset slot, and the stick is arcade quality just not HAPP or IL.

why do you hate the Dreacat stick? the hori's are the same design dedicated console sticks with ball tops.

What don't you like about the Dreamcast Agitec stick? If it is that you don't like the Japanese style joystick and buttons then you probably won't like the Hori RAP stick either.

Cryptlord
01-03-2005, 07:54 PM
So all the Hori ones are like that? I didn't really like to buttons or the stick. Maybe I need to get used to those round joysticks.

SpiffyShoes
01-03-2005, 11:22 PM
They don't all feel exactly like the agitec but for the most part they all feel similar. If you just don't like Japanese parts in general you might try looking into getting something with Happ arcade parts.

I got ahold of one of these sticks today and here's my ass-sesment:

1) construction and circutry is more than decent. It's generally well built considering the China fit and finish. (no offense)

2) Button choices is probably made because all they hear is "concave" but the fact is that these BL buttons are generally kinda ass. It is playable and the joystick is sorta a "happ Supper" clone. It's a fair choice considering the price range of the stick overall. Sticks on par w/ X-arcade and buttons kinda similar to the early RedOctane... (both not so good)

3) Design: I would have not gone for the overlapping T-molding but it does hold the acrylic down. It just produces an odd lip that I personally don't like. They may have done this so that the acrylic doesn't scratch your wrist. I think that the sticks generally kinda high and I don't like the placement of start/select. Those two buttons are too close to the stick. Centered would have been better.

4) Asthetics are very nicely done. It's a good looking box and the artwork is well laid out. The 15th Logo looks good as well as the Udon Alivin Lee art...

Who knows when I get a chance to open it up and really tinker inside.

armad1ll0
01-05-2005, 02:08 PM
Hmmm...

1) The buttons can change out easily. I changed 2 just for fun.
2) I found that the red and black wires coming off of the main cable are for power 3.5V and 5V from PS2 and Xbox respectively.
3) The Screws/nuts for the joystick spin when you turn it so you'll need to loosen it from from both sides. This means that you have to take off all of the buttons, acrylic and T-molding to get to the screws holding in the stick. This is huge pain in the ass... I'm too annoyed to do it right now. I think that a P360 will work fine but it's a bunch of labor to take it all apart. Soft MDF like this doesn't like you pulling out that T/E-molding also...

SpiffyShoes
01-05-2005, 02:41 PM
How is the joystick bolts spinning any different from any other stick with them counter sunk? I mean I normally have to pull the buttons and plexi off to tighten the bolts on Red Octane sticks. Thats why it's a real pain in the but to have to replace a joystick.

armad1ll0
01-05-2005, 03:11 PM
Often times in RO boxes the bolts are wedged in there so that it actually doesn't spin.

Your right the expectation is that you'd have to take it all apart. Maybe I just hoped to be lucky.

Its a good buy for the money, if you want the best possible performance get a custom made stick, if you want the best bang for buck get the SF anny stick, its a solid performer out of the box. to make it better just mod the stick and buttons, that'll run you about 25$ for stick and buttons direct from happ.

 no lag, xbox communicator slot, universal xbox and ps2, beautiful art.

 short cord, some units have sticky joysticks.

Hey everyone, I'm new here. I've been playing SF since the first one came out in the arcades. I actually bought the Nuby stick the other day & it's pretty good. It's not as good a mod stick but it does the job. I must admit I play with my modded REDOCTANE stick, while my son uses the SF anniversary stick, im just used to the happ comp stick and i actually prefer concave buttons :wow: maybe this will change someday but i doubt it. I can not give A+ ratings for the sf stick because of sticky stick issues that keep popping up in these threads, but i still highly recommend it. also a good choice is the pelican real arcade cheap and moddable.

what should I do to my SF stick? The stick got the same probme other people mentioned. It randomly behaves like someone is holding it back, while actually i leave it in a neutral position. I did open the stick, but could not figure out how to fix it.
I got several pelican real arcade stick at home (universal/ps2/gc). If I go to buy some happs parts and swap with those in my Pelicans, will those Pelicans be a lot nicer than this SF stick?

I bought one of these just yesterday and here is my review...

The Stick- Very good stick, and interesting combination of ball and bat. Very comfortable and moves come off with ease and comfort.

The Buttons- They look odd and feel odd at first, but they really are not that bad, just a bit small.(this is probably the only thing I will mod)

The Box- Big as fuck. It feels good though, the spacing of everything in relation is really good, and you have plenty of room. The start and select next to the stick is not that annoying at all. Sucks to not be able to wear this on my lap like my SC2 hori, but It is still good. The art is amazingly beautiful on it!!! He stick looks tight as hell.

The connection- Sweet that is has ps2/xbox, finally they start putting that on shit. The cord really isn't that short compared to most sticks cords.

Downsides....
1)When I reached into the back where the cord is stored, there is a lid on the compartment. It did not snap immediatley down, so I did a little smack and the whole compartment broke off into the box. I came to find that It wasnt secured in any way but some little globs of glue randomly on the edges. I will now have to super glue the thing.

2)SO big you cant sit it comfortably on you lap, you must put it infront of you on a bench , chair etc.

3)Small buttons make your hand get lost quickly, I'm sure once im used to it I wont get so lost but right now I get the occasional R2 isnted of R1 press.

-final thought-
For the price, this is one amazing arcade stick. There is nothing on it that really demeans it or makes it bad. Plus, you can just go up to your local EB and buy it and not have to order it from Japan. I think even oldschool SF players will have to appreciate the old design and the great art. Generaly this stick is worth the money and I recomend picking one up if you are looking to buy a decent stick for a decent price.

my SF anny Stick has that sticky stick prob... it doesn't happen way too often but when i jump it stays jumping even when the stick is neutral , aside from that and that the buttons are just a little too close the stick is pretty good n yeah my ps2 almost fell cuz of the short cord...

N64FanBoy
01-09-2005, 10:56 AM
For those of you bothered by the short cord, Mad Catz sells a PS2 extension cable for $5. I know they carry them at Gamestop and Gamerush, I would assume EB does as well.

I'm new here, but I just bought got my SF stick Friday so I'll share.

The chord did not seem too short to me. I thought it was incredibly short, until I unwrapped it, but I'm an idot sometimes.

Anyway, my SFarcade stick had the sticky stick problem. The stick would return to the center dead position, but characters and menu icons continued moving to the right. This was do to the incorrect centering spring adjustment. The stick looks to the eye to be in the center, but it is a tick off, and would not allow the little black switch mechanism under the metal flipper to come out far enough to disenage the switch, hence the constant movement to the right. I simply filed down the black switch under the metal flipper with a finger-nail file. This allowed the black switch mechanism enough room to properly disengage, depsite to slight pressure from the stick being off a little bit.

While I like the art work and the feel of the buttons (not as springy and nice as happs though), it's hard for me to reccomend this stick to anyone. A couple of my freinds were going to buy one, but we are now waiting on parts to build our own instead.
I also would not suggest to anyone that they should file that switch down, but on my stick it only required a small amount and I was too lazy to readjust the centering spring, nor did I know how. But the stick works great now. Not bad for the money, but if I had it to do over I would simply buy a pelican real arcade or another cheap stick with a good base and mod it.

saroorhai
01-09-2005, 08:46 PM
I am playing the ps2 version of the game. The stick though, i don't think it would have mattered which version u were playing with the problems i was having. The switch just was not disengaging.

01-10-2005, 09:41 AM
Well, I used one over the weekend with SF3 and SFIIHyper in SFAnni, SVC Chaos, and King of Fighters 00/01. I had no problems with it, no sticky stick or anything (for the time being, at least).

The only problem I had was that I hadn't used a stick in a while, and it took me a bit of practice to get the motion down for Cammy's "Thrust Kick".

DragonSama
01-10-2005, 06:09 PM
Well I went out and picked up the stick tonight. I am at school right now and I have not had a chance to try it out yet. I did get to put my hands on it at he store and the buttons and the stick felt pretty good to me  (but I admit I am no expert) I will post my review of it tomorrow. I plan to run it through SF:AC (Of course), Guilty Gear 2X, CVS2, KOF 2000/2002, A3, Drakstalkers 3 Tekken 4, VF4 Evo, DOA:U and SVC, MVC2 on the DC (Innovation adaptor), SC2 on GC(with the adaptor from wal-mart).

I want to run it through as many games/systems as I can to see how it performs for under different situations. I might not get a chance to take it on live until tomorrow night (meaning the Live review will come on Wednesday).

If anyone Mods this stick please post a the full details and diagrams on how you did it. Or at the very lease PM them to me. Thanks!

This stick is terribly ghetto. So I liked my fist one I bought, until just 2 days later my square button stopped working. So the back panel had fallen out and the square buttons was inoperable.

Then I went to EB and they gave me the other one they had as a return and the peice of shit stick sticks down!!! I am so fucking pissed that I am going to go demand my money back from those bastards. Screw modding or dealing with this poorly made peice of shit. I suggest not buying it unless you really wanna put the money into "fixing" your new 60 dollar peice of equipment.

Here's my impression of the stick.

I ordered it through ebgames.com. The outer box is in great shape, although the little round clear plastic stickers that keep the inside window part held down were melted from their original places leaving a sticky trail of their adhesive over both sides of the box.

The stick is nicely finished, a couple small (like 1/8") wrinkles in the graphic paper under the plexiglass but nothing too bad. Also a tiny 'booger' in the plexiglass, like the size of a grain of sand, under where the buttons are.

Out of the box, mine works fine. All the buttons and the joystick seem very responsive. HUGE upgrade over my old stick, a $20 Intec. Go on then, laugh it up ;) It's not as heavy as it might look, and the height and overall feel is nice for sitting back on the couch and playing. Much better than I expected. The cord is about 6' long (playstation connector slightly shorter) which is pretty short, at least for my setup (43" Samsung DLP HDTV with sofa about 9 feet back). For xbox, you need to get an extension cord that has the same female connector as is on the xbox itself. The ones with the round connector that accepts the 'breakaway' connectors will not work with this stick. I got an extension cord made by Hip Interactive from CompUSA and it has the dual connectors.

Anyway, I am more than satisfied. I would say it is a great entry level stick. It is solidly built, it is a gigantic upgrade over the sticks in the $20-$40 range. Heck I like it better than the x-arcade stick and the pelican real arcade, just for the big box form factor and how easy it looks to upgrade. If you wanted I bet you could even make a different graphic for it. At any rate, if I ever get good enough that I notice the inadequacies of the stick and bottons, I'll toss some Happ parts in there. Or maybe buy a custom. But until that happens, this seems like a great stick.

I Ran the stick through all kinds of games systems and on live. Here is how it all went.

First off construction. The box is very well built and has a very solid feel to it. It is a bit heavy but I have seen and played with heavier ones. The position of the live communicator port is pretty good too it is right in front and to the right. The only issue I had was the cord for my headset getting in the way every so often but this is a known issue with the headset anyway. Looking at the stick I can not see how you would get the stick out of it to mod it with out destroying the Plexiglas or the artwork. The Stick fells nice and rolls around very smoothly. It does click when you play but it is not as bad as other sticks out there. (Pelican I am looking at your and your loud clickly ness). Also the stick does recoil back to center from any position quickly and very firmly. The problem I encountered the most with the stick is that sometimes (like once every 30 minutes) it would not reset to center from up on a half recoil. Meaning that I would push up and let it come back down on it’s own (not let it do a full recoil down and not push down) and I would be stuck jumping over and over. Once I pushed any other direction again I was fine. This was not a constant issue it only happened once in a while. However I can see needing to replace the stick on this over time. The buttons are alright but I have seen better. They are springy enough to get the job done and rapid presses are ok. I think that the buttons might be a bit thick for this style (the have rounded tops instead of the caved in type) and it takes some adjusting to get used to them.

First tests were done on the PS2. The response was great from it. It adapted well to every game I played on it. I noticed no lag on inputs at all and no glitch outs what so ever. The games were easy to configure for the stick. Game tested

A3
Darkstalkers 3
CVS2
SF:AC
KOF 2000/2001
Guilty Gear 2X
Tekken 4
VF4:Evo

Next I moved on to X-box. Once again it played like a champ. No lag on inputs at all and every game could be easily configured to play on the stick. Games tested

CVS2
Guilty Gear 2X
SVC
DOA3
DOA:U

Next I moved on to live. Once again there was no issues at all the Communicator port worked very well and there was no lag on the on-line play sans the regular lag on live. I got in a few rounds of

CVS2
SVC
Guilty Gear 2X
DOA:U

Ok now for the tricky part. Testing it on other systems that it was not designed for. The first one was the most picky of them all in the past the Gamecube. I used the cheep adaptor from Wal-Mart on this and had no issues at all. The cube let me us the stick to navigate menus and start a game of SC2. Now the only sticking point is that you have to go into a practice game and see what button does what then pause and go into control options to reconfigure. This is a minor gripe. There was no lag on inputs at all.

Last but not least I tried it on my Dreamcast with the innovation adaptor. I hooked it up and started a game of MVC2. I picked my team and had no trouble at all. I noticed no lag on inputs and combos and AHVB came off with ease. I also tested it with

DOA2
SC1
VF3
Project Justice
KOF98
Jojo
SF 2X
Vampire Chronicles
Fatal Fury Mark of the wolves
Last Blade 2
SF3:3s

Over all it is a good stick. It might be best to mod it if you are looking to make it your competition stick. I also can see the value of having this stick moded because you have the X-Box, X-box Live and PS2 support built into it. But the stick as-is works well for almost everything. If you want a good stick for under $70 this would be it.

I think DragonSama just mentioned that the Innovation adapter (PS2 -> DC) works with this stick with no problems. I got mine from Ebay about 12+ months ago.

Innovation adapter allows Sega Saturn and PS2 controllers to work on DC (but i only used them for my SS pads on my DC)

dam this thing is easy to mod!! i didn't mod it but i just took the box apart. The molding on the edge of the plexiglass comes off easily and just as easily goes back on. Plexiglass and artwork come off easily also. Buttons come off semi-easily because there is some glue or something on them but them do come out with a little bit of work. Also some of the quick disconnects are hard to get out, just got to use some force. I didn't take out the joystick because i don't know how to take off the e-ring(someone tell me how!:) ) but looks like they bolt on with simple phillips head. I'm planning to mod it asap, but if anyone else mods it before me post pics and etc....

the seller, of the auction that finished, has 2 more in stock. Check his Ebay store. He might have more after those are finished. I find most sellers will only put up 1 or 2 of something to get the best price. =p

http://stores.ebay.com/Classic-Game-Source-Inc_SEGA-DREAMCAST_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZQ2d1QQsclZallQQsotimedisp layZ2QQtZkm

They are listed under different names sometimes, and also varying prices ($9.99 - $12.99).

Lung - Ok hold up man. Don't yell at your local EB guys - 9 times out of 10 they just don't know that something will be defective. How can they? Its not like we can personally test everything that comes through the door. Be mad at nubytech dude, not us. Besides, with that attitude, if you came into my store like that you wouldn't get shit back. ^^ Depending on where you live, maybe you can hit up my store and we'll see what we can do about getting you a good one. All the ones from my store seem to be perfect.

Also, I've bought 4 of the things for myself and as gifts and so far everyone's loved them. No stick problems, buttons hold up (though they will be modded anyways). So yah, love them to death. Just need alpha 3 and a decent marvel port for the xbox t.t

I picked this stick up today, and I really like it. I've never really used a fighting stick before, so I don't really have a line of reference. But its still making the transition from pad to stick moderately painless.
