Cuba High lights:

- I was all ways drunk. I mainly stuck to beer, but rum and cokes, mojitas, brandy, and random bitch drinks were had as well.

- I smoked at least 20 smokes a day...ever thing was a reason to smoke

- I fucked 3 times, got head 5 times, and thats from 5 different girls. 3 from montreal, 1 from thunder bay, 1 from orogon...all three of the girls i beat were from montreal, proving montreal is slutier.

- a girl squezed my balls hard when she was giving me head...i made her stop using her hands.

- A cuban guy squezed my balls hard...i punched him in the face.

theres no question it'd be fun as hell, but for me, a guy who doesnt have enough money to take more than 2 trips a year, its a choice in the summer between evo and anywhere else, i simply chose anywhere else....id still like to go :sad:

i was also saying that we live too far to just go and get last. dont missunderstand my post to be "dont go to evo, its bullshit because we suck and its not worth the money unless you win" i just think that compared to almost everyone else that goes (except japan) we live too far away for all of sauga to be making evo a priority, that doesnt mean im telling people not to go, im just trying to rationalize why I'd rather go somewhere else.

edit: i dont think i once said that this logic accounts for everyone, or anyone but myself. if this is my opinion on why i would rather go somewhere else, you trying to convince me im wrong is like telling a skater that they're wasting their time and should be playing basketball.infact, in every post regarding evo i keep saying that this is what I would rather do. its all personal choice.

James feels that a trip to BC would give him the most value for the money that he has. I think a lot of us (myself included considering the role I play in this community) lose sight of the fact that in the end this is just video games we're playing. We take it up a notch (or maybe a few notches) than the average player but at its base it is just SF. It is for that reason that when you think about stuff like vacations, it's important to think over the fact that not all of us would like to hit a spot on vacation that involves video games at all.

I could have gone to EVO year in and year out, as could someone like say Jason as we both work full time and actually have the extra cash either through money put away or through credit card to just get on the plane and hit EVO. However, it doesn't mean we should and it doesn't mean we will. For $900 USD I could hit any number of all inclusive resorts in any number of hot islands, drink myself stupid and fuck random girls every night for a week (Hayvren can testify, he just got back from Cuba). That sounds alot more appealing than a week, while greatly enjoyable, in California with 400 guys playing something we really enjoy but will always be there when we get home.

I'm goin to montreal on march break with my buddies. Break away tours is the way to go for sure, cause they put you in a hotel with a bunch of other teenagers, so you don't need to worry about the noise, plus they provide shuttle buses to other areas incase you wanna shop (which you don't). I'll go out with you guys one night for sure though.

The Italian guy:

It was around 1:30 a.m when i went into the pool club/bar for a beer. I get to talking with this 20 some thing italian guy, and we were both pretty good at makin each other laugh. So he goes to me "wanna take a shot with me? its my last night." I obviously agree, and thats when he tells me "its not 1 shot, its actually three." I still agree to take it, and he proceeds to tell me the italian shot is : whisky tequila whisky. I end up takin this shit, and let me tell you, its not fun. I was all right afterwards, but about an hour later he got me to take another round of his "shot" and right after taking em again, i proceeded to walk out side, hang over the balcony, and puke into the lake.

We then went out knoking on doors lookin for two sluts from montreal. We found them. He also stole a bottle of mint vodka, which we drank with the girls, and a sign that said the cabin numbers of a building, which he stole from the girls.

The 2P stick seems to have an alignment issue. It couldn't go up-right for nearly two hours, resulting in a lot of random up and down rather than rush down. Then for some reason it started working but the down-left started failing off and on, resulting in a couple of losses that just shouldn't have happened. A small adjustment and it'd be good as new.

We really should try and get a good turnout next Sunday and maybe a small tournament if possible with no entry fee, just get Event Mode and play through.

Skybox really doesn't need that many changes to become a truly effective arcade on the west end.

First off I wouldn't change the amount of money needed to play either CvS2 or MvC2. It's obvious that both of those games bring in a regular amount of players regardless of whether it's 50 cents or 25 cents. Dropping the price while already having an established revenue stream with no sign of decline is just burning potential profit.

As it concerns Tekken 5, that game is what I consider a losing project from a long term perseptive. With the exception of the established East Asian obsession with the card format (see ORBIT having multiple machines all being used continuously for a prime example) there is no other demo holding down a strong affiliation with this game. The massive investment needed just to play it is ridiculous considering the game is due for a late spring domestic release and any of the people holding out now that want to play it will get it in April. So arcades are left with a useless machine in the end. If arcades actually hold out and keep their machines after domestic release, you'll see the drop in price (both for cards and each play) that were mentioned earlier because they quite simply won't have a choice.

Bringing in 3rd Strike is an obvious choice and is almost a necessity as tournaments are always held around the big three (CvS2, MvC2, 3S) and will continue to do so until either CFJ gets a wide arcade release or Capcom comes up with something remarkably new and actually fun to play.

Alpha 3 and Super Turbo are both niche games at this stage and while I love both games more than just about anything else outside of CvS2, I would never spend the money to bring in games that five people would regularly play. It's just bad business.

DDR is a constant cash cow and if anything I would bring in a second machine. BTW; to everyone complaining about the volume of the machine, that's actually a great marketing tool. Has anyone ever noticed how often random couples and parents with small children walk by the arcade and stop because of the noise and the players dancing? That's potential revenue from people who may walk in and play a game of something else or who's kids are drawn to the arcade and want to play a game or two. Volume stays, I hate it as well but it's a good marketing tool.

Pool is a waste of time in a place that's on mall hours and uses it's non arcade space for fooz ball.

Speaking of fooz ball, I'd scrap the air hockey table and add another table. I don't know what it is about that game but it's always played, has low overhead (maintenance/repairs in this case) and the tables are no more expensive than a mid tier arcade cabinet while bringing in far more revenue.

I'd scrap just about everything on the right side of Skybox and put Inital D (whatever the latest version is) in there and add another Inital D as well (think METRO setup along the wall).

That's all I can think of right now.

I don't see arcades as a very profitable business. I wouldn't have created an arcade in the first place.

In the future, we'll most likely be able to hold even bigger tournaments online with future generation consoles. Eventually the fighting game scene will fade from the arcades. But it probably won't happen before you retire.

I wouldn't invest in any fighting games at all at Skybox, unless I can get an acceptable quality machine for super low price. Skybox has already established the reputation of having the shittiest fighting game machines on Earth. It'll take time to rebuild player's confidence but it's probably not worth it.

I think CFJ is a crappy game and very few people will play it after a week. 3rd Strike and GG are fine games but I doubt they'll attract the non-SF player demographic. Skybox should just make sure the DDR fags and the Initial D people are happy, as these two groups probably generate more money than all other games combined. Get another DDR machine, but a different type. Don't turn the volume down and if anything, turn it up. Get another foozball machine. Make room by getting rid of those games nobody ever plays.

Other changes that are probably not beneficial to the arcade but I would really like:
-REPLACE THE CVS2 MACHINE!! I don't like the tiny little bit of space between the players.
-Get 3rd strike
-get a change machine

There's a huge difference between the two. With the exception of the MvC2 machine at METRO, the rest of their cabinets run great. I have never had a problem with the CvS2 or 3S machine at METRO in the two years I've been frequenting that arcade.

ORBIT, while it has had it's many many moments of fuck ups has the luxury of an on site technician that fixes machines on the fly. With the change in attitude lately by the staff, their machines have been running great and whenever there's a screw up they fix it ASAP. If people actually bothered to post on the ORBIT forums and let Simon and their tech know the problems they'd be fixed even faster instead of going through the random clerks who may or may not remember to tell Simon and the techs about the problems.

Skybox doesn't have the worst cabinets in the GTA. DT Funland is worse. Wizard's Castle when it was around was far worse (Brampton stand up and testify about the 2P Roundhouse that NEVER worked longer than 2 days) and Shoppers World before Roger bought into it was a shithole. Let's not forget Woodbine, which somehow has the God's 3S machine but has a crappy MvC2 and the single worst CvS2 cabinet in Ontario bar none.

I figured we'd get a decent crowd today based on who said they were going to show up over the course of the week. I was pretty disappointed that Team White Boys V1 didn't come but otherwise we had a good turnout.

MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2

Vs Teddy (1st Round): This is a match I'm going to have nightmares about. First match I blew not one, not two, but THREE different opportunities to ice the game with Storm and watched my lead evaporate. Second game was tight and I got Invincible Boots to smoke Teddy's Sentinel and Capcom at once. Third game I get pissed because the one game I actually beat Teddy in for a tournament wasn't taped. I get stupid not caring anymore and get run over. Whatever...

Vs Shumayel (2nd Round - Losers Bracket): Shu ran away with Storm until I got frustrated and started chasing with stupidity. He smoked me both games with the same strat.

CAPCOM VS SNK 2

Vs Teddy (1st Round): Despite what Teddy thought, this wasn't revenge for Marvel. This was actually revenge for the bullshit broken stick win he's been holding over my head for the last couple months. Anyway, both games were 2CV's (never saw R2 Vega IIRC).

Vs Shumayel (2nd Round): Shu runs A Ken/Rolento/Bison and both matches were pretty tight but Vega > Bison once you get pinned in the corner and don't RC reliably. I take this two straight.

Vs Gerjay (3rd Round): Once again we meet in Winners Semis and it'll probably go this way every time we play in a Skybox tourney. Gerjay takes the first game with Sakura doing all the damage. Second game looks the same but I made the big comeback with Vega and pinned him down in the corner. Third game I make the comeback again with Vega. We both had no health left, the timer was running out and I turtle waiting for a poke. The poke comes and the stupid 2p side still doesn't low block properly on the left and I eat the c.hp. GG's though both Gerjay and I know I got scammed.

Vs Anant (4th Round - Losers Bracket): I'm stuck on the 1p side that has no medium kick. That pretty much kills Guile and Vega dead so I switch my team to C Yuri/Chun/Kim. We go even until Kim comes out and I rush him down. Anant kept trying to JD my c.lkx3 and kept eating it and the Triple Kick follow up.

Vs Tyler (5th Round - Losers Bracket): Tyler runs K Kyo/Hibiki/Athena after switching his last team off but it didn't really matter. He ate a ton of backfists and for some reason fell for roll Flash Kick a lot. Anyway, I never lost the lead and Vega cleaned it up. I need to play Tyler more so I adjust when I throw out pokes that aren't JD'd.

We didn't finish the tournament but considering it was only Roger, Gerjay and myself left we all agreed on how it'd breakdown and I take my 3rd place for the 2nd tournament in a row at Skybox.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Teddy pulls one of the biggest comebacks I've ever seen on Ramy. :wow:

Ramy's new Egyptian Tactics were too good. :tup:

Hayvren doesn't defend The Master Of The Universe Title. :tdown:

Watching Roger vs Tyler, Tyler vs Wilson was pretty fun. JD, JD, JD, JD, back and forth back and forth.

Today was ok. Beats the hell out of writing about stuff and studying at home. I wish we had a casual instead of a tourney. But then Roger would have a 452151507 win streak. I don't mind. Casuals are more fun because I can pull out a random team without any pressure.

The matches weren't too satisfying. I was disappointed that the machine wasn't fixed. I knew mk didn't work since I played at Skybox on Friday. So I adapted with a team that doesn't need mk. But obviously it wasn't my best team. I ate 2 billion sagat jp HK because I thought Mai's st. HP had more range. Oh well.

CvS1 is still kind of fun. That game is broken. Ryu/Ken's jumping lp is god-like. I forgot about Ex Balrog. I should have used him.

I need to play Justin more...his curt system is best described as "magical". I'm stunned in awe everytime he lands a roll super or a throw. I should develop a counter system when I have time.

Teddy: beat him first round, pulled a nice comeback after getting raped, but threw it all away with a poorly timed ahvb. BEasted on him 3rd round

Teddy: Played like crap again (i wasn't as high so i played stupid. Not to take any thing away from teddy or gerjay, they both beasted) so i leave the tourny with 3rd.

I have to be at York U early for last minute prep and to take registration. BE ON TIME! DO NOT FUCK WITH MY SCHEDULE!

If you're coming with me, bring money. I already promised Team Hamilton that I'd go for dinner with them after the tournament, in all likelihood at Jack Astor's. What I figure is going to happen is that we'll head to the Jack Astor's at Square One after the tournament is all wrapped up. That way it's on the way back home for everyone. Now if you want to take a bus from Square One because you don't want to it that's fine but otherwise you'll eat with whomever comes to Jack Astor's and then I'll drop you home.

The tournament registration is at noon. Tournaments start at 1:00pm. PLEASE BE ON TIME!

As for directions, the easiest way without getting complicated is to take the 401 Eastbound to Keele. Exit Northbound (left) and take it to Steeles Avenue. Make a left on Steeles. You first entrance into York University (you'll see a sign) you make a left and you're on campus.

You'll hit a stop sign and a semi circle. Enter the circle and take it left. Keep along that route until you see a parking lot with it's gates up (free on Saturday from what I understand). Park there and walk past the automated garage. You'll see an entrance to the building "York Lanes" and The Cove is in there.

Matt; Gerjay and Teddy are both going. If you don't want the spot please say so now so I can have it replaced as I'm sure someone like Maiwand would take it in a second.

Gerjay could have beaten Eric in Winners Semis. He was within an eyelash of taking it in the first match after a comeback and he had the second match without too much trouble. The third match was all Eric though. Losers Finals was a different story. Eric's Nako always put Gerjay into a big hole and then he had to keep clawing back. When Gerjay refines his Honda just a bit more he's going to be in fantastic shape to be holding top 3 in CvS2 no matter what venue he's playing in around the GTA.
