I'm the webguy for Midtown Comics in NYC and I noticed that Street Fighter Eternal Challenge TP is on our invoice for Wednesday's books. Oh yeah! I'll try to scan a couple pages on Monday (assuming I don't have to damage the book too badly to fit it on the scanner hehe)
edit: the SF #12 power foil cover is also out Wednesday

Had mine here in the uk on friday! £22.99 the price for us english fans.
Its ok the paper quality is a little poor and i was under the impression that the book was going to be a hard cover or at least a harder cover then the one provided, it could have done with a dust cover.
The features inside are ok i mean that art is superb but the writing is littered with mistakes and to be honest expect for the breakdown of each character section there not much to really care for.
The endings section is pretty good but im not sure if a lot of the endings in there have the dialogue taken from the Japanese versions and translated into english or if its the Americanised endings.
But what i did find quite interesting was the round table interview in the back of the book, some silly questions but still and entertaining little read but not essential if youve got the Japanese version.
Anyone wants a copy in the UK i can do one for £22.99 plus shipping depending on your location for as long as stocks last.
EKO any chance of a 1.5 verison with better quality paper and a hardcover or at least a dust cover? Later down the line anyway/

You killed my interest right there. For the same price i can buy 12 comics or a japanese artbook (like Capcom Design Works: Early Days). I guess i´ll pass.

It was not my intention to put you off it was just my opinion its that kind of thin and shiny paper which for me personally makes me feel that i may rip it as im turning the pages no matter how careful i am.

It's the information I care about primarily. I probably have most of the art anyway. So I'll still be over the moon to have it. And I have bought LOTS of art books in the past with sub-par paper quality and still be very happy with the product. Roll on Thursday!! :D

The paper used is 80 lb glossy. We have gotten qoutations of different weight of paper and eventually settled with this stock due to the balance of the printing cost.
We have orders of only around 2000 units to begin. While I am sure that we can possibly move much more that this, we have to look at the real hard number that come back in from Diamond and decide what to do. Do we want to use a thick stock but have to raise the price to about 45 bucks retail instead? Or keep it affordable to everyone at 35?
We printed 4500 of them, double of what was ordered, coz we believe in our product. COMON! This is the VERY FIRST SF history book EVER translated into english! But until those sells through, we still have to shell out the printing cost of the stock, let alone pays for all the translations, layouts, output, and of coz Capcom's licensing fees.
And yes, as Jim said, there are some typo and minor mistakes that we missed, even me, Jim, Gala, and the people looking at the files for approvals at Capcom have gone through the book so many times.... I guess by looking at it everyday for 2 months, we are getting blinded by it...
Will we be doing a Version 1.5? It is too early for us to say. If the overprint stock sold out, I would certainly like the idea of a revised edition sometime in the future.
All in all, I am still very proud of the project. 300 pages of Capcom history that finally can be shared with all the english reading fans. I hope you would enjoy it. It's our sweat and blood for more that 60 days work that brings this book to your hands!
Thank you!

i placed my order for this book already and can't wait to get it. i don't have much of a beef with the paper quality. for as long as i can see and read what's on it and it's not toilet-paper, i'll take it for the decent price range it brings the book down to.
i understand Udon's a young company, and they'll need our support. one way to support them is by giving some consideration for the products they're providing us with. like erik said, this is THE first piece of capcom history to be fully released in english, and is even better in terms of content than its japanese counterpart. i'm happy i waited out on the japanese version to get my hands on this one.
given what Udon's given us for the relatively short time its been existence, i'm quite pleased and give my full support to them. thankfully they've overprinted, as i'm sure a lot of fans will want a piece of the SF history. :)

I got it and am very happy with my purchase! Great job Udon! Currently pulling an all nighter to read it from cover to cover...

I haven't picked it up yet, but I got a chance to browse through the open copy the shop had. The store had about 5 copies for sale.
The book is softcover and is thick but light. The paper quality is similar to what is found in Gamepro and Nintendo Power magazines. There were a good number of art pieces that I'd never seen before. I noticed a couple of interview sections. The character sections seem to have screenshots of each character's super moves. The history of SF games section look pretty comprehensive. The ending section have the USA endings. I didn't notice these, but in another thread it was mentioned that there are notes of some kind if the Japanese endings were different than the US ones.
Overall, it is a good purchase for the SF fan, but may not be that interesting to the casual comic store patron.
I just finished reading the book (this took me literally hours!) Having the Japanese version already I already had the artwork (but it's cool to just look under the drawing and read the Artist's name instead of looking everything up...) though the best parts for me were definitly the parts that described the history of the Video Games and the great interviews. (I can't read Japanese...) The stories were good but a bit brief (But the Japanese version is like this too.) I also liked the bonuses you added, the San Diego Interview, the SF merchandise in the US and the translations of the Japanese Move names. I found errors here and there but nothing too big. Thank you so much Studio Udon for all your hard work, this is a great addition to anyone who even remotly likes SF!

First off, don't ever let it be said that I'm not a fan of Street Fighter and Udon Comics! For I now have in my possession: A COPY OF STREET FIGHTER ETERNAL CHALLENGE!!!!
I was lucky enough to just walk into my local comic book shop and there it was, staring me in the face (The store I go to sometimes gets exclusive items such as SF issue #0...). After a quick trip home to change my shorts, I was back at the store and I swiped it up quick.
First off, quick question for Udoneko (I practically cheered out loud when I saw you guys at the end, BTW. ). Did you guys have Shinkiro do a cover just for the US SF Eternal? It was pretty good.
It was a good read. Most of the artwork I had already seen in some form or another, but I really liked Kinu Nishimura's work most of all. She needs to do a cover for the comic, or a back up story. Then again, like Shinkiro, you could probably only get her to do a cover. (Cover-only was best for Shinkiro though IMO. I've never seen anything from her that depicts the characters doing anything else but posing or standing around.)
Also, the interviews & game histories make for good reading.
Also cool was the US media section. Though I find it odd that while you included the US cartoon and the Alpha movie, the SFII anime, SFIIV, and the Van-Damme SF movie were nowhere to be found. Maybe you could do another book with synopses of the various comics, cartoons and movies of SF.
Also, in the character art histories, most of the SF Alpha 2 art was labeled SF Alpha 3.
Don't get me wrong though. I am very happy to own a copy of this magnificent book.
Cheers to you Udoneko!! :bgrin: :bgrin: :bgrin:

I know I'm not Udoneko lol but that pic was in the Japanese version in the merchandise area, originally it was the artwork for some kind of mat? It's the pic with Chun-Li, either the Earth or moon in the distance and some shadowy characters such as Ryu, Sakura, Bison, Guile and Akuma in the background right?
I still haven't got this yet, I won't be paying my seller for it for a little while as I can't afford it but I am most definitely looking forward to seeing the book in English

WHEW! I am so glad that you guys liked it! Anyhow, as Jim and myself said before, it does have some errors so if you happen to find them and got the time, please e-mail them to us (info@udoncomics.com) with the subject of "SFEC fixes", that would be great help. And I do prefer e-mailing us would be better than posting them in a thread. Jim has already started going thru the book with a red pen, but we are all only human so there might be something that we miss among the 300 pages....
As for the cover, it is used in Japan as the 15th anniversary lithograph that is sold for hundreds of dollars. We like the art so much that we decided to use it as the US cover!
And for Shinkiro-sensei, he was actually a manga artist before becoming an illustrator! When we were at Capcom Japan, Kinu-sensei came over and showed us her prize possesion of a copy of an old manga by Shiniro! It is in some old fashion manga style but you can still very clearly see his touch. Now he rarely picks up a pen. Do you know, Shinkiro-sensei does not even use pencil and paper at all? Everything he has done is just on the computer. Sketching, layout, drawing, painting. Even with the CFJ images! It is pretty amazing to see how he works. (his desk is the cleanest of all Capcom artists, coz there is not a piece of paper and a pen or pencil on it, while all others are messed with sketches and layouts and design sheets like any artists in the world! LOL!)
Udoneko - Great. I've jotted the errors I noticed down (some of them seem to be errors in the original Japanese book translated however, wrong info on what happens in some of the games in the History section, where most of the errors I found are, not your fault) and I'll send them along.

i just got my copy of this in the mail today.
it was one hell of an eye-opener for me, i'll tell ya that. all along i thought it was bengus' artwork i was being impressed by, and it turned out to be either nishimura's or edayan's.
on a strictly quantity basis, i'd say my favorite artist or them all is nishimura, but ikeno, with his dynamic angles and poses and rich colors comes in a close second. :)

Book stores is a wierd thing. They do their orders by the season. By the time we offer the SF EC book to them, they are already doing season 4 of 2005, so they listed that as available by Dec 2005 instead of anytime sooner, as their system just cannot back date.
Now, I am not sure what will happen if you actually order it now. Will the order go into Diamond and get shipped to them (Walden, Amazon, etc) and will they in turn ship it out immediately? I really donno....
I have asked a few tomes to Devils Due and Diamond, but not one seem to be able to answer me as it seems more like what the big guys will do than any of us can control....
so... if you want it like ASAP, either go and tell your comic store to order it, or you can try www.herofix.com or ruppsworld.com
