damn, I was already going to get a custom stick but I think I'll get this just because it is badass. But seriously, $50 for a sanwa stick? There has to be a catch. Must not be using quality parts or something in there...

Well yeah but they only seem to say then include the artbook is why I was unsure. But the press statement seems to come from one of the higher ups from HORI USA so I guess its all good then.

Hot damn, and I was about to order a CFE RAP from lik-sang today. This one still has the so-so layout, but it doesn't have the damn turbo DIP switches. I can get this, play with it a while, and have a local machine shop make a replacement metal top and get that sucker looking the way it should. Thanks for letting me know, this kicks ass.

i have strong reason to believe! that! this will be a real arcade pro, exactly with REAL SANWA PARTS!
anybody remember this post from a while back?

well that pic in the opening post is linked from vgonetwork, and the thread starter of that thread i linked to is no other than mark of vgonetwork. so i guess his promise did not fall through.

It certainly LOOKS like an RAP.
And since Hori just put out that "Fighthing Jam" stick, which was a Hori RAP. Did that one use standard RAP parts?
I hope this means Hori is testing the waters for bringing its joystick line over.

The SPECIAL EDITION is the one with the HRAP that costs $100. The only thing up on sites is the regular T5 that comes with that.
At this point, there's no reason to believe there's any difference between this HRAP and Hori's version 1 HRAP, just swapped art like the CFJ one. Sanwa stick, Seimitsu buttons. It doesn't make alot of sense for Hori to make a stick that looks exactly alike then put in different parts. Then again, I don't see any pics at sites other than VGO that shows that is the Special controller that comes in the SE bundle, but assuming that stick is a real pic of it, Its pretty likely its just a re artworked HRAP. And for those of you that cant seem to believe Hori would be selling a HRAP for $50, they aren't. This is setup as a specific anniversary bundle, they arent selling it apart. Not like they'd be losing money anyways, a HRAP is going to cost less than $50 to make at the factory.

Just to be sure, and you sure you put down your money for the 100$ set with stick, or the $50 bundle?
Edit: Whoops, Akuma is right, GameCrazy has it in their computers now. They dont use UPC's, they use whats called a TiKey ('tie key'), and to hopefully help, I jotted it down for you folks. $99.99, and specically says with stick. If they don't find it, have them look with this number. This number will only work for GameCrazy stores; other stores use their stuff. Start preordering boys:

Looks eerily similar to my custom stick layout. Dang, does that mean I have to adjust my layout? Mine has Feng, Raven, and Asuka with a blue background and a big T5 logo bottom center.
I just might have to retool my new stick, doh!!! Still, I kind of want this package as well. Perhaps sell it off later on, who knows.

too bad they didnt have the balls to make it a 4 button stick.
At this point, there's no reason to believe there's any difference between this HRAP and Hori's version 1 HRAP, just swapped art like the CFJ one.
The Tekken LE HRAP (http://www.vgonetwork.com/media/data//tekken5-collectors/t5stick.jpg) doesn't have any turbo switches like the Standard HRAP (http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2005/hardware/reviews/horirealarcadepro/horirealarcadepro_screen001.jpg) but I never liked the turbo switches anyway.

would you be able to switch out the square gate for an octagonal one? I think people have done it with the hrap before but I'm not sure. I imagine it wouldn't be too hard.

There's no reason to think that this stick is really different from any of the HRAP's, except for the lack of turbo toggles. So, its safe to assume the answer is 'Yes' and 'not hard at all'.

02-05-2005, 04:06 PM
Even if we can't peel it off, it should still be a metal plate. A sander should get it off right quick, and you can buff and polish it as much as you like. Myself, I'm thinking of either sanding the paint off, or getting a replacement plate with a button layout I like better; then taking the plate to get powder coated, and maybe a single color and clear acrylic decal on the top.
No, no, no, there will NOT be a 'Type R' sticker on it, but it should look slick.
KnownasWolf

Thats a lot of work for different art. I think I just keep the T5 art and maybe just swap a octagonal plate. :pleased:

Toodles
02-05-2005, 08:36 PM
No one will no for sure until they crack it open. I haven't seen any report from any source that indicates whether they are sanwa or seimitsu parts.
What I *DO* feel 100% confident about is that they can be swapped out dead easy. The other HRAP's had this metal plate welded on the bottom of the top sheet metal, with threaded holes for installing the stick, in a way that made swapping in a sanwa or seimitsu or other clone sticks very easy. Buttons of course can be swapped in and out all day.
Even if it comes with seimitsu buttons and stick, its still a steal at $50, and a simple upgrade if you need to down the road.

in my opinion, i think the worse case scenario if they don't offer what's in the picture is that they do the soulcalibur style stick box with only 5 play buttons (tekken tag uses 5 buttons i think) and stock hori stick and buttons. there is nothing in that article that says anything about partnering with sanwa, just hori. it would be easy for them to keep costs down by using existing hori parts with 1 less button and just have a different overlay over their smallest box. hopefully this won't be the case but after reading this part loosely,
“Our newest peripheral was designed for TEKKEN 5 and those who love the best fighting game franchise of all time.”
it makes me wonder if they will add all the ps2 controller's play buttons of the rap rather than just enough buttons to play every tekken game (i think tag uses 5 but don't remember). it would be the easiest way to keep their cost down after using their own stock readily available parts.
i'm just thinking worst case scenario speculation though so don't take none of what i'm thinking as any truth. i really want the rap with sanwa parts for $50 extra but i gotta prepare myself to get dissapointed after reading what true_tech posted.
hopefully what your friend is saying is just a disclaimer that stores use to cover their ass like when they give wrong preorder dates or have low store availability. but yeah this deal seems almost too good to be true. you get so much for the $100 preorder like the game, stick, artbook, and special dvd case. full sanwa or seimitsu parts is like icing on the cake to what i consider an already great deal.

I can't really be mad because TrueTech only said it wasn't guaranteed. He didn't say it won't be the one pictured, but it sure felt implied.
The notices of the limited edition came from a press release from Namco. I can't see it for myself because the press section on Namco's site requires registration as press. If any of you want to try and fib it so you can see the press release yourself, be my guest. But the two images that were released on VGO's site should be from the press release. You want to explain why Namco would photoshop up one picture, and plan to sell a completely different stick only six weeks out? That makes no sense. (Caveat: I did see one site who mentioned it was a modified Hori Fighting Stick 2, but no pictures. Frankly, I think they were talking outta their ass and haven't seen a HRAP before.)
Until someone can give me a logical reason why it WOULDN'T be the one picture, this speculation of a five button SC2 stick is FUD, pure and simple.
TrueTech, is this just sour grapes 'cause of a stick you recently bought? Expect to see a picture of a middle finger over the stick and a loud Nelson 'Ha Ha' if youre wrong.

Just me, but I'd like the american black box and button layout with the Japanese art. That would look slick. I don't have a problem with the symbol buttons being in the middle. You could probably just remove the microswitches and put plugs in there if you didn't like them (that might be what I end up doing).
Oh yeah, and the guy who posted the picture of the american T5 stick at VGO is also known as MarkMan at Tekkenzaibatsu. Vgo is also selling some hori stuff, which may be why they got that picture. I just can't think of any reason to doubt what the stick will be. If you want, I can PM him about it and hope he replies.
P.S. the people on this forum actually know something about joysticks reasonably well, so nice! THNX MUCH!

I recall someone telling me that tekken 5 arcade cabinets use sanwa parts.. Is this true? If this is true.. Then, as they have quoted "The Tekken 5 limited edition peripheral offers highly accurate controls replicating the arcade game play experience currently found on the coin-op version of Tekken 5." Meaning it will have sanwa parts.
I sort of refuse to believe that they are even going to release a bundle that includes a japanese style stick. Generally speaking, the North American definition of "arcade style controls" usually reffers to a bat stick and concave buttons (bleh) and the general market wants a Bat stick with Concave buttons. But this is a limited release, and they got pics of a nice looking stick. So I can only hope what we see is what we get. (sanwa parts! yay!)
Like others, I too would rather have the japanese style White casing with plain tekken 5 logo on the top. It just looks classier to me...

Don't worry guys, it will be a Hori stick. It's official. The reason Hori sticks are taking so long to come over to the US is because they were seeking the official Sony Playstation License(endorsed by Sony) to be a first party product. This was just recently agreed to and then the deal with Namco was struck just recently.
It will be a Hori RAP(minus the autofire button features), I will go into depth on the stick after I get my hands on it either next week or the one after.
The reason eb and gamestop don't have it in their systems yet is because the press released hasn't been sent out to retail establishments til the end of last week, it will most likely be in their systems(depending on how fast they update), early/mid this week.
Keep your eye out on more Hori products comin soon. (seals lips)

I don't know if many people know about this or not but if you pre-order it from Game Crazy stores, it also comes with a free T5 t-shirt. I think it's only certain stores though. Also, does anyone might know if Game Crazy is going to be offering the artbook and/or that DVD case thing also? I might go ahead and cancel it from Game Crazy and pre-order it somewhere else if it doesn't include other extra stuff other than the stick and t-shirt.

If it's for the same price as the press release, it sure as hell better include the DVD holder and the artbook.

IMO it is definately shipping the 25th (or 22nd since that's a Tuesday I think) The reason is that Death by Degrees kinda bombed in reviews, It's the newest release date given by Namco to EBgames AND the guy at EBGames said the release dates are usually accurate if they come out that close to the current date (15 days away).

EB Games has NO idea when something actually comes out, they just can't preorder without a release date so they assign one. It could be knowledge as much as it could be a random guess. The SF stick, #R for xbox, and about a million other things were delayed well past EB's original dates.

Just in case, I got two on preorder at a nearby EB, and two at a GameCrazy. I'll take mad photos of it disected as soon as I get my hands on it, but you'll likely see reviews elsewhere (MarkMan, if he follows through with what he said) before then.
Even if the parts are shiite, $50 for the case/housing is worth it, and stocking it with sanwa stuff will be a breeze. Even if the parts are crap and you replace them with sanwa parts, you're still looking at the same price as an imported HRAP.
Everyone reading this should go put one on preorder. If you decide down the road its not worth it, no biggie, you get your $5 back. But if it isn't, and Hori never gets around to releasing the rest of their line here like they should, you'll be mad kicking your own ass for not getting one when you had the chance 3-12 months from now.

It's good to get more than 2 joystick bundles, that way you can sell one on Ebay later on for big mullah.
Question for everyone:
I am going to trade in Fable, Mechassult 2 and Blinx 2
How much would I get for all three with the specials in EB and Gamestop
EB: trade 3 earn +$10 ( is it just $10 or $10 extra for each game )
Gamestop: I think they are having the extra 30% when you trade in games.
Which store will give me a better deal.

Im estimating here, but
Fable: 10 - 15
MA2 : 20-25
Blinx:8-10
so 38 - 50
EB gives you 48-60
GS gives you 49.40 - 65
But also it seems EB generally gives less per game than GS, so I'd say Gamestop is probably the winner...

I got 65 bucks credit for 3 games....so yeah..gamestop is a better deal and you can put the trade in credit towards the tekken bundle

I just preordered it at ebgames. They said it comes in feb. 26th. I did some side by side comparisons of the HRAP and this stick and they look the exact same so hopefully there is a sanwa stick in there. I already ordered an extra octagonal gate.
edit: I found it kind of amusing that when I asked if they had the bundle in their computer he went to the side and opened the flap to the SF anniversary stick and said

it's more like 50/50, since the shitty games u trade will get .50/2.00 at the MOST trade in value, on top of the $10 for 2. It's more accurate to say you're spendin about $50 for $100 trade in value if you buy 20 games.

The stick itself, I'll probably tool around with it for a little, or maybe leave it in the box and not mess with it at all. So if it's a RAP, that means the buttons will not be Sanwa then, right?
I just hope my wife will be cool enough to prepay for a game related purchase for me.

Assuming:
1. you can get a sanwa flash. They stopped making them, but himura might still have them in stock
2. the sanwa flash can run properly off of the 3.?? volts from the playstation. I don't know for certain if it can. I know lots of people have put them into namco sticks, but I don't know if they used voltage multipliers to increase the voltage to the proper +5v, or got the power from the higher voltage line that the vibration motors run off of and used voltage regulator to drop it to +5v. Sounds like a question for Spiffy, Arm, or coN.
then its a very simple mod, requiring only one wire, soldered at the pcb and ran to the power in on the flash. Physically attaching it should require nothing more complicated than a screwdriver.
Is it worth it? Matter of opinion, but the sanwa stick already in it should do me just fine.
SpiffyShoes

As in "click" like when bugs bunny pretended to turn off the light to try and fool that criminal Baby Face by just saying "click!"
I hope Byrdo is still holding on to one of those flash sticks for me. He's probably had much better offers than what I've given him. Me wants the no clicky...
Stanman
02-15-2005, 11:48 PM
I just sold my flash stick because the luxury of no clicking didn't seem that appealing after a while. Now that I have a sanwa standard stick I now realize how obnoxiously loud the clicking is. But whatever, it's not bad and I'm sure it will go down when in a box. I can always make up the excuse that it pushes the stick back to neutral faster or something to make myself feel better...
edit: If you still need flash sticks, supposedly himura is getting the last 40 ever in with his next shipment. So, if you missed your last chance to get the elusive discontinued flash stick... then evidentily you have another last chance to get one!

"The Tekken 5 limited edition peripheral offers highly accurate controls replicating the arcade game play experience currently found on the coin-op version of Tekken 5."

I went to gamestop tonight and they wouldn't let me preorder the ultimate collectors edition. They couldn't explain it either except to suggest that preorders are closed. WTF?
Anyway, they weren't even sure how many if any they were going to get in. I live in Santa Fe, one of THEE lamest gaming towns in the nation, so I just hope they actually get a bundle or two. As it stands, I'll have to rush in there next Saturday and see if I can secure a bundle.
Sadly, I will just sell the stick later on altho I may use it until I get my custom flash from Darkside.

As long as you can swithc out parts I think it will be cool. For me at least anyways since this stick has the design I was going for. I can just replace the picture in it if need be. I was thinking about (learining first) about putting in an optical...forgot the name...but it's from Sanwa and the stick doesn't click when you move it. I heard about it at the virtuafighter.com boards.

I like the stick itself alot. The layout is fine also the only thing that really bothers me is the select and start buttons being so close to the fierce. I also don't like that r1 and r2 are parallel to each other. I will rewire it to be r1 and l1 because the converter I have for my dc maps l1 +l2 as one button and r1+r2 as another, I may unwire the select button so it doesn't get in my way when I activate in cvs2 . I actually dont even have a PS2 but right now I'm contemplating buying the stick and selling the game + bonus or just keeping it all and buy a ps2 just for t5. its a great game either way. But I would like to be able to switch out the gate to octagon instead of square. If I wont be able to do that I'll be a bit disappointed

I'm pretty sure it's a Sanwa stick but not Sanwa buttons.
It's the exact same of the regular HRAP but colors and such. If it does come with Sanwa buttons I don't think that would be the button format.

How loud exactly is the clicking sound? I didn't read all of the posts on this thread (only the last few pages), and it seems like the click must be distinguisably loud. I'm content with the clicking of the sticks in T5 machines (which isn't loud for me - the way I like it). Maybe a comparison with that would help me "sound it out".

the clicking is just the sound of the microswitches. Compare it with any american button or the DC agetec stick.

From the looks of things, the American T5 stick has the original HRAP button configuration and most likely has a Sanwa joystick with non-sanwa buttons. The japanese T5 stick has the new special edition HRAP button configuration and I'm guessing it would have both sanwa joystick and sanwa buttons.

A 4-way joystick only detects up, down, left and right, like for pacman, digdug, etc. No diagonals. An 8-way joystick can hit diagonals.
To answer what you asked: sanwa sticks can switch from 4 way to 8 way with just a screw driver, no additional items required.
To answer what you prolly meant: The movement of the stick is square, but swapping it out for an octogonal gate is easy, but the octogonal gate would have to be purchased separate.

Read what he said again. The original poster of that was likely talking about restrictor gates, like square or octagonal. Square gate only has 4 "corners" and those are on the diagonals, for up/down/left/right you basically have to go in between the notches, even though there is no notch for it. A square gate is still 8-way, the stick default is 8-way, it can only be 4 way if you change it.
Man you're hella paranoid.

I doubt the original RAP will stay at it's current price wants the new versions come out. Either way i don't think it's wrong for people to want perfection if they can get it. I would rarely use a PC out of the box, possibly even a car out of the box, same with joysticks... no harm in that.

for all of you guys who own or know a lot about the HRAP, does it use a dualshock PCB? i'll be using the tekken stick for xbox fighters, and since the stick is pretty much a HRAP but without the turbo buttons, both sticks should work with similar converters...
i've read that the magicbox works great with a HRAP, but i don't have the slightest clue where to get one without paying crazy shipping costs...and on the other hand, the dreambox apparently works very well with sticks that have a dualshock PCB, and i have much easier access to acquire a dreambox...
does anyone know? thanks

i got this same BS at gamestop.
a story from a friend who relied on EB and a preorder.
He preordered World of Warcraft Collector's Edition months in advance, and paid his deposit. When it came to release date he went there after work.... "I'm sorry but we don't have anymore left, but we can give you the normal edition."
very unfair. How many of these packs are being made? 20K? I really hate EB and their preorder policy this way. Maybe your best bet is to run down to your EB (or other game shop) before it opens to guarantee you'll get your T5 pack.
I bet we see these on Ebay going for totally crazy amounts (like I saw of WoW CE, when one of my friends was still trying to get it - $150 to $200 USD for a computer game @_____@)
