Well it just makes things clearer. I just wanted to have the top6 for each region to promote competition. From what I hear from some Toronto players, most people don't even like to play the best like Roger and Eric because they're afraid they will lose. Hopefully, this Challenge System will spark some motivation for the "lesser" players to try and take a top spot. Plus, since anyone not top6 can challenge for 6th spot (and hopefully make it on the list), I thought that this system motivates all players to try and compete for the TOP6.

Guys, I have no idea who you are talking about when you say James, etc. Please just give me your list. If you're not sure about who you wanna place 4,5,6 then just place your gut feelings. I don't need this to be scientific, but I do need everyone to have a clear opinion. So Angel Of Rage, could you please just post your top6 in a list format with their SRK nicks. It makes it a lot easier for me.

And you can see how it's not as clear cut as many think. You said that Teddy doesn't play 3S but correct me if I'm wrong, isn't DaFlipMastaXV Teddy? He says he plays the most 3S in Sauga...so you see...it's hard to judge, so if I get enough feedback from all teh Sauga players, I can have a good idea of the top6.

I don't like it. The Sauga list for CvS2 is definitely missing out some good players. There are plenty of good players. They just aren't in your circle of friends and you don't meet them often. Rich, Alex, Calvin, Wayne, Wilson and me are the people I can name off the top of my head that probably deserve to be on top 6.

2 The rankings will be updated weekly. That means challenges for a certain week must have results by the start of the next week. Over lapping will create problems, and so no delays will be tolerated. If a player cannot accept a challenge due to time constraints, then he suffers a forfeit loss.

I just read the new challenge system.

What if the players can't agree on a time to meet? The challenger can purposely pick times that are inconvenient for the one being challenged and likewise the one being challenged can do the same. Or maybe they really are busy people and happened to be unable to meet. Either side can make up endless excuses for not being able to meet at the desired time of the other. If this happens, how do you think it'll appear to us (the community)? It might either look like the challenger made an empty challenge, or it might look like the one being challenged is indirectly refusing the challenge. And no one will be able to tell.

If you don't believe me that this kind of bullshit can occur, I can write up a scenario for it to show you guys

Selecting the top 6 is very trivial.

Everyone will never agree on the rankings. Instead you need to start with something. Select a few top players(ie: people who win tourneys and still compete, which excludes people like Jonstar, whom I recognize as a very good player, but the fact is he hasn't been competing for quite a while, and alot of things may have changed. Perhaps he's not as good now since he hasn't been practising, or others have surpassed him due to excess practise) in each region to give their top 6 and make something out of those.

Then if anyone thinks they should be the 6th or higher on the list, they can challenge the 6th and move up to where he thinks he should be, as your challenge system suggests.

I'm just saying don't wait for something everyone agrees with, because it won't happen, start a list so the challenge system can begin, then the ones who see differently can try to change the list to their liking.

I edited the ranks and I'm pretty sure these are accurate. My first order of business is to lay down a challenge to Jason for top spot in Brampton MvC2 (that's almost comedic) and to Steve for 3rd spot in 3S. I propose we have both of these challenge matches during our Sunday casual session.

Also, as Brampton's top CvS2 player, I'm laying down a challenge to whoever the hell the Sauga 6th man is so I can bust through that ranking.

I might as well address a few things:

The mystery person Geese is referring to was me. Now before everyone freak, the ranks I gave him A) were based only on the six people he gave me and B) were given as an overall (that's why Gerjay ranked above Bryan). Also, I did give Geese game specific ranks (only for Brampton & Sauga mind you) and my ranks are NOT what was posted in this thread for Sauga.

As for Tylor's post. Calvin & Alex, while very good players don't enter any tournament that isn't at Skybox (Alex hasn't even entered a Skybox tourney in at least a year) and can't honestly be ranked. As for Calvin being 2nd, that's ridiculous considering he came 5th or 7th (can't recall) at the only tourney he's entered for the last six months back in January.

Is Afro Rich even active?

Wilson has no place in any top 6 ranking for Sauga. He's very good but not in the class of the top Sauga CvS2 players.

Ok, guys I read all your comments. Good shit. I especially like Nagata's initiative to get things going. The thing about choosing 6 for start. That's exactly what I was going for. I'm not expecting to make everyone agree, but as long as I don't get a "OMFG THOSE ARE SO FUCKED", then I'm going to go ahead and start things as scheduled for March 1st.

Concerning CHALLENGE DAYS AND TIME CONFLICTS:

I have talked to a few people people and the weekend sounds like a good time for most people to have their challenges. Having said that, anyone disagree with the idea of challenges taking place during those 2 days (Saturday & Sunday)?

As for conflicts, I highly doubt anyone here is sad enough to purposely fuck with times so the other guy can't challenge him. If there are, and the person being challenged has a feeling that he is being bullshitted, then talk to me, and we will figure it out. But as I said, I highly doubt anyone would be lame enough to do that.

For Toronto, I know they have a GGXX scene so I will be adding that. The 3 main games will remain there until replaced by a new standard, but I will allow for ONE extra game (for now). If your region plays any other "lesser" game (A3, ST, CFE, etc), please let me know, give me the TOP6 and I will add that game to your regions rankings.

He usually shows up at around 1-1:30pm Fridays and stays for an hour or two. I can't guarante that he'll be there though. I also don't know if he shows up any other day since Friday is the only time that I go.

That sounds like a pimp idea. The main reason I've also loved watching big Japanese tourneys is cause they treat it like it's fucking Pride fighting or some shit. They're passionate and it shows in the presentation (smoke, lights, etc.). While it's tough for us to have that kinda level, a belt sounds reasonable and would be cool to have haha. Then you can add in the wrestling drama oh no! :wow:

these have to be the shitiest rankings ive ever seen.... I understand what you are trying to do Geese, but its kind of hard to make assumptions on who is better than who when you are all the way in London. Marvin is still one of the top six cvs2 players in T.O., my boy Danny could beat anyone on that list potentially (he beats me very often), i've only lost one cvs2 tourney in T.O for a really really long time (maybe a year and a half to two years), Poke Guy is definitely one of the best players in sauga, and I thought Alex was easily the best 3s player in montreal. If I were to pick apart all the shit I felt were backwards on these listings I would probably exceed some word quota or something. :lame:

Concerning Capcom vs SNK 2, I might as well address Roger's post first. Concerning Marvin and Danny, to put it quite simply they're not active and that's why they're not ranked. Neither Marvin or Danny has entered a CvS2 tournament since the season opened back in September. Couple that with the fact that Danny refuses to even play on Japanese sticks (which by the way things look will become the only sticks tournaments are played on) and you can see why he isn't a factor. You have to be active to get ranked, that's all there is to it.

Concerning the list posted, Roger is correct in being annoyed that he should be #1 ranked for Toronto CvS2 followed by Eric. He's only dropped one tournament (METRO November Tournament) in two years. Ian is probably deserving of his rank but again hasn't been active (last tournament was Christmas and he got 9th). Kin shouldn't even be on that list. Wing is deserving of #4 but would be credible if he had entered any tournament prior to February 5th (six months into the GTASF season). Omni is another case of "well he wins a lot of casual and he WAS good in the past." Last active participation was the METRO November tournament.

See Toronto has got the best player in the GTA, let's not kid ourselves. But if no one bothers to play in tournaments outside of Roger, Eric and Jay (who deserves to be on that list, at least in the 5th spot) then saying "well this guy deserves it and that guy deserves it" doesn't really hold much water.

Because setting up the starting from the rankings won't represent everyone. What if JS Master or Ratio1BeatDown don't make it? That means that they aren't the best in CVS2 and shouldn't be on the rankings? I think the rankings on the site now are pretty accurate for the regions that responded.

Hasn't anyone realized this whole ranking thing is stupid? Who is gonna actually take the time to meet up with someone to play for 1 ranking spot. A ranking spot on a website run by Geese. Think about that for a moment.

So according to your rules, if Ian challenges JS and JS can't make it due to school or whatever for a couple weeks, he loses his spot. Then Ian challenges Roger. And then Roger doesn't go, because he knows this thing is stupid. So Ian would be ranked #1. Like anyone is gonna believe that. And then what, he's #1. Does he get a prize? Nope, he gets name on a list, on a site, that no one cares about.

It's cool you're trying to bring some life into the scene and all. But there are too many problems getting this to work.

Oh sorry that's old rule. It's changed now to a round robin tourney among the challengers who are fighting for 6th spot. If there are 6 ppl challenging for 6th spot, then they have a mini tourney, and the losers can't challenge for 6th again for X number of weeks, where X is their place in the tourney (ie. 6th place can't challenge again for 6 weeks). So yeah, no more money match rule.

Wait for it a bit to load. Concerning Byron, I really dont know what's going on with those 2 regions (Calgary and Edmonton). I asked for a top6 a while ago on SRK and nobody responded. On the Illusions of Oasis forums, some guys responded, but although their effort was appreciated, it wasn't enough (because the SRK nicks weren't there...just ppl's names with short descriptions). So yeah, unless they take the organized initiative to give me their top6, then there isn't much I can do to setup their rankings.

I'm sure many of you are aware that Sauga's cvs2 machine at Skybox (EMTC) is as responsive and functional as a keyboard plugged into a washing machine after being repeatedly smashed by a giant hammer. 19 out of 20 times I go there the machine is shit. After some thinking, I thought of many questions and opinions regarding the challenge system.

1. Who's actually going to challenge Sauga people on those machines?

2. We can just play on console right? If so, are you going to make rules on joysticks? I'm asking because some people prefer PS2 sticks while some prefer DC or whatever. This may lead to another question. If we can play on console, can we use those unlockable characters?

3. Can I make multiple consecutive challenges in one week? For example, I don't really want to drive all the way up to Hamilton 6 times to take 1st place. Maybe it's just me but any driving trip that takes over 1.5 hours is too much for just playing a game. I imagine that people who make it to top 6 of another region will quickly lose that position because people in that region can just keep challenging that player knowing he won't really want to make another time costly trip to defend the title, thus forcing a forfeit.

4. If it's a 1v1 challenge, and no other SF player is present, then there will be no witnesses. And we all know that in this world, if you have no prove, your words don't mean much. I'm sure most of you aren't THAT lame. But bullshit discrepencies can happen and probably will happen someday.

5. Are the matches going to be money matches?

I think the best competition system is only going to be possible when we all play online (next 5 years maybe). Then we can make ladder systems like in Starcraft or whatever. And hopefully the developer will implement the system directly into the game and we won't have to do any work besides learning how to play better.

Anyways, this challenge system sounds ok. Let's see how well it works.

What's wrong with online for SF games? I really fail to see any potential harm to the community. You know, due to my schedule, the number of players I get to play commonly can be counted with one hand, and even then I won't need five fingers. Making SF games online would...
-broaden competition by a million times
-eliminate the need to physically be somewhere else, saving gas and game money
-NO MORE PLAYING ON MACHINES THAT DON'T WORK! Like that cursed Sauga cvs2 machine
-Attract a LOT more players

I guess there are some draw backs. It'll be harder to make cash based tournaments and you don't get to meet people at tournaments. Neither of these will stop me from playing competitively. I don't think lack of money risk will reduce the level of competition. There are tons of examples of games that remain popular and competitive while being free to play. You just need an effective and official system to keep people playing. I'll use Starcraft as an example since that was one of the few games I ever enjoyed. Battlenet was free and it had a pretty good ladder system. In fact, you can just port the exact same ladder system to SF games and make a few adjustments. It'll allow for casual games and tournament style games.

Online is definitely an option for SF games on future generation consoles. I'd even be happier if they make SF games available for PC in the future. Screw consoles.

I'm just extremely dissapointed that some ppl said they would challenge for sure, and then they end up backing out. It's not like it's hard to find 20 minutes during the week to play a friend. I think at least 50% of the challenges weren't even played out. So yeah, I would like to see more ppl into it, but if nobody cares, it's fine too. Oh yeah Matt, you can go die you worthless bitch. Please move out, and die on the streets. Nobody will miss you. K thx.
