i don't like to play too many games against the same opponent... maybe 5 max unless it's someone i know...

just wondering if there was some kind of online etiquette for playing matches... i don't want people to think i'm being rude if i leave after only a few rounds.

i'm getting the game tomorrow, can't wait to take it on live!

I don't think it's rude to leave after a few rounds. If you don't want to play the guy anymore then screw him, leave. I do hate it though whenever someone beats you and then you want rematch and they leave in like .3 seconds.

1)Do not drop. Many players(myself included)do not care, but a lot still do and will flambe you on these boards if you do it habitually.
2)Unless you are a total noob, don't pick the same character for 10 straight games. Some players are cool with this but part of the reason I will leave after a handful of games most of the time is no change up.
3)Taunting is fine, although if you make a habit out of it you are encouraging sore losers with "network stability problems" to lose connection after a loss. If that means nothing to you, fight on.
4)Don't spam challenges. If someone turns down your request more than once there's a reason and flooding their match with challenges will get you muted.
5)Most don't care if you leave after a match or three. If they do want to know why you'll see it posted here. Lots of shit from bad connections to other invites to nature's call cause this so no worries.

That's pretty much the basics, which are really just common sense anyway. The Soul Still Burns, yadda yadda...

haha well i am a total noob and only know how to use a couple of characters. i almost always stick with one character in the arcades. i'll have to remember to change it up though online!

I really hope there aren't tons of people who cry if someone uses only plays one character or something. I play just one when I'm being competitive -- most people are best with one certain char.

It's more of friendly advice than a guideline, obviously your best character gives you the best chance to win. But as has been reiterated since CvS went online, at the end of the day online matches don't mean anything to ppl that play offline. Being competetive is fine, but it doesn't hurt to try a new character out after 3-5 matches. After that many it's usually clear whether or not you can beat the other guy's best character. Pick who you wanna, I know I will.

I got a beef against some players who wait for you to select your character 1st no matter what.
This guy (forgot the name) always freakin' waited for me to select first and did a counter select everytime....
then one time he ran down the clock in the character select screen until I picked mine first.
Character Selection Screen etiquette is needed

Never thought of that way for some reason, probably cos I haven't played online yet. That's probably a good excuse to actually learn new chars too.

Yeah no shit, then they'd usually pick Ken as if they're doing something bad or something. Speaking of which, what is up with all the Ken whoring? 90% of my matches played today were against that dude? Weird, and kinda lame....

I always tend to begin my first match with Ken when playing someone new. Then usually the 2nd or 3rd match Ill select Makato, Dudley, or Yun regardless if im getting owned for free or not. It gets boring using Ken after 2 or 3 matches. Heh most of the time people are so used to playing against ken players that when you choose someone else it totally throws their game off

That's true. I play almost exclusively with Makoto unless I know I could beat them with my other characters (I'm trying to learn Yang for some reason, and yesterday I saw my first disconnect due to a desync issue with the Seien-Enbu..).

So I always pick Makoto first, especially against Shotos. There's nothing like punishing a full-screen fireball with a 60% damage combo.. :)

sorry for asking here, but how do you do the 60% combo?

i'm strictly a ryu user, which is why i understand it if people were to get frustrated with me picking him every match...i'm going to start learning makoto when i get my joystick in....i need all the help i can get...

does it involve SAII?

Yeah, it involves SAII.

Basically, it's SAII -> sj cancel -> w.hook kick -> fall -> 2x dash punch.

I could list the japanese games but it'd be too complicated :)

Using Makoto, SAII is absolutely wonderful. You can do lots of things ater one. You can link a second SAII after a dash, link her upwards punch, etc. It's a really versatile super and it's deadly against shotos, especially Akuma. If you do her command grab beforehand and link the super into her upwards punch you get an auto-stun.

I would recommend trying her out first on a pad. Seriously, it'll help tremendously, as she's a somewhat tough character to learn(she's very slow yet has the fastest dash in the game, she's the only character who's c.rh isn't a sweep, etc).

Oddly enough, whenever I play as Elena I fight more Ryus than anything. ALWAYS.

Also, if you're just gnerally bored of fighting someone(be it losing/winning too much, tired of playing, etc.), what is a good number of matches to wait before quitting?

What about throwing in this game? I see some people have a problem with it. Not so much in 3S but more in SF2. Is it cheap to throw? Sorry if this has been posted before.

thanks for the info

i was actually planning on mainly using SAI with makoto, but i'll try learning her with both SAs then...it'll probably work to my advantage so i know which SA to use against certain characters....

Word man...Makoto is vicious once she gets one good hit in. She is probably one of my favorite characters to use as well....fun as hell. Its all about linking that SAII.

And as for the person who asked about throwing. No its not cheap to throw...if its in the game use it. Anyone who bitches needs to quit being a scrub.

I get ridiculed sometimes about this but I play
makoto with the SA3.

I used to use SA2 but I fell in love with SA3 after
discovering how much the activation of this messes up
most players game. Some people turtle up so bad that it's
a free rush down from there.

When your opponent is think cool. No blocking and starts attack
instead I concentrate on at least to trade hits all the time
unless their highly predictable and I'm confident that I will be
able to parry what they bring.

One more thing. When activating SA3 you have many
invincibility frames as long as you don't do anything.
