Warning: Lynksys Router + Lag

The Linksys wireless game adapter for Xbox causes extreme lag. Err, at least mine does. I purchased mine at Walmart, it may be defective, but I doubt it.

I recently got a VGA adapter and hooked my Xbox to my PC moniter. Since I didn't need to route anymore, I just directly connected to the modem, and I noticed a drastic change in online speed. Also keep in mind my PC is always turned off when I play XBL.

My connection speed is 3.0 mbps download, 160 kbps upload. If you have a similar speed, are using the linksys, and experiencing moderate to severe lag (with near lag free games few and far between), the linksys may be the culprit.

I am taking my adapter back to Walmart, I'll let you know if it was defective.

well, its generally a really bad idea to use wireless for gaming anyway. too much random interference can really screw shit up, especially for a fighter. i don't recommend wireless to anyone at all if there's online gaming going on

I'm running a wired Linksys router...with 4mbps DL, and 436 kbps upload, and the game lags like shit for me. I can't figure out what's wrong at all, and it's sad.

i also use the linksys wireless-B game adapter, and i've experienced mostly games that range from a little lag, to alot of lag.

the bad lag games include quick screen pauses or freezes.

the very little lag games it just seems like the motion and button inputs are delayed by a fraction of a second.

so even when playing friends in my city and with the our best connection i noticed that online play has an input delay. all moves and button presses have to be done slightly earlier than normal, and imho... it takes away from "real" gameplay, and i don't care for it much.

the input delay has been noted by others as well, and even jumpsuit mentioned it to me when he and i were playing on the arcade machine last week. he said that on the arcade machine he was messing up because he was doing all of his attacks too early, especially on jump-in attacks. he's benn playing online so long now that he's altered his game timing to match the online delay.

i guess that's ok for people who prefer online play and that don't mind the altered gameplay, but for me it just makes the game less. less acurate, less precise, and less competitive.

so my 1st impression of online play is that it's simply good for a bit of fun and few kicks, but it doesn't satisfy my competitive SF fix.

I use a Linksys WIreless G router but I have the larger antennnas and it works like a charm 99% of the time.

I have my Xbox on another floor in my home and the reception is still very good.

Thats exactly how my games were - range from a little to alot. I used to get mad screen freezes and shit just like you are getting. Games w/ little lag were few and far between, and even then it was still too much delay to play effectively.

That is not how XBL is man. Try directly connecting. I'm telling you its like night and day. Now all my connections are either 99% lag free (feels like Dreamcast version I.E. VERY minimal delay) or close to that. The best connections I used to get w/ the router are now like my worst connections w/o it.
