Hahah it's TOSF reminiscing time.
First contact I had with TOSF was on #tosf on B5 night, I was talking mad shit to two people on there, can't remember who. I thought sauga was the shit back then ahahah.
I started playing SF with Crayz_Penguin and DM (omg, MSH vs SF = too good), then moved to skybox, with MVC1.

Once MVC2 came out, i used to randomly see Gerjay around (although i didn't know who he was) and played Marvel with him. I was already friends with Spidey Shan(who would be owning up MVC2 right now if he still played), Azn_Rich(Devotion), Azn Strider, Angel of Rage, and Poke Guy. I met the rest through SF. Cool beans.

i remember my first fighting game... it was 3s! lol. the one and only fighting game i play (aside from half-assed attempts at mvc2)

one of the main reasons i got into it was b/c i saw how everyone in 'loo cove played that game, and the best way to comunicate w/ customers is to play the game. next thing i know, after my cash shifts, me and the cove customers are playing eachother and helping eachother out. i remember when mikec thought me how to do a dragon punch! :D

i look back... i've gotten better... but still have many miles to go :P

I started playing SF the way all the old schoolers did. Pizza Parlours, Donut Shops and Variety Stores. Played sf1 at some beef jerky store in chinatown. First Arcade? Crystal fuckin' Palace. First real arcade? DT Funland. I was like 8 then. That arcade used to be THE PLACE. But we played with DT rules.

1. No throwing. Must offer throwback if you do it by accident. Command throws allowed.
2. Mandatory mercy round. If you kill them by accident, you give them your game or their quarter back.

Failure to abide by these rules resulted in an automatic stabbing.

I can totally relate to Darin's story. I used to run Brampton (not completely, as Pete was still right there with me running BCC) and then I found SRK. I read about that huge VF/VA tourney where Detroit and Montreal came and I got humbled so horribly it wasn't even funny. That was one of those moments you think "OK reality check, you're not the best out there" and then I got serious in SF. I would like to give a resounding "FUCK YOU" to Team Montreal for trading off guys because they saw I was a scrub. A big "THANKS" to Clayton for showing me shit with Kim (that's the day I started using Kim after seeing Clayton's shit so everyone can bitch at him for eventually spawning C.U.R.T.).

If we're going by actual roots, then I'm technically an STC player. SC2 is what got me into the FG scene seriously, and I used to go to STC all the time, 'till it closed down. That's when I started going to DTFL/Orbit.

I need to learn at least one 2D game, and I don't even really care which, except that I really don't want to play Marvel. Just watching that shit makes my eyes hurt. So is there ANYONE willing to teach me either CvS2, 3S, or GGXX? I'm not talking about combo's, or anything... I can learn that shit on my own... I mean I really just don't understand the fundamentals of these games.

Well TOSF is desperate for another skilled Marvel player but it'd take ages to get you up to snuff. Personally, I'd suggest CvS2. It has the easiest learning curve for beginners, there are TONS of players both low and high level and there are more than enough players (myself included) that can teach you how to play the game well.

You should really try your hand at CFJ. It is one of the finest fighting game engines around, and I think you'll really enjoy it. You can even join the cfj tourny at orbit on saturday. I'm sure there will be a lot of beginners there.

I think TOSF pretty much founded itself, the players eventually decided to gather together and form a community, and that's the greatest thing about it, that's why you see, as long as there are players playing, TOSF is alive. Rofl about the London tourney. I remember Roo and Mike were talking shit in Korean to the Toronto players without realizing they were Korean, too. Then the Toronto guys are like "guys, we can understand what you're saying". Also, tourney on LVL4 MVC2 = top tier. Man that was fun. Then I remember you guys came to Ace for a bit and someone offered u guys weed. Funny thing is, the drugs is what keeps that arcade going. Each night me and my friend go, we get asked if we have weed. About a week ago, the coin guy was talking to me about setting up tournaments there, and he pardoned himself for being stoned lol. That guy is dope. Good times.

I'd go with Geese personally and he's best in either groove. I used to use him way back and he's solid. Has a bad matchup against Sagat though I find.

Rolento is generally better in C or A Groove but could work in P or K I'm sure.

P Cammy can be vicious but K is probably the better way to go unless you can parry like a pro. JDing has less risk if you miss and a raged rushdown Cammy can be painful.

Edit: Vega is always a good choice too. A top player(Makoto?) in Japan uses P Kyo/Vega/Cammy actually.

Sagat...the following ppl are some characters that are good and balanced for K IMO. There are others good in K but they take more getting used to (like Chang and Nak).

Cammy, Eagle, Geese, Guile, Haohmaru, Joe, Kyo, Rock, Ryu, Sagat, Vega, Yamazaki

Take ur pic from those.

You should focus on characters that you can land the super easy with or at least throw it out randomly and still be pretty safe. Those characters would be:

Cammy (super easy link off close fierce)
Guile (Sonic Hurricane is fastest super in the game and 100% safe on block)
Rock (Raging Storm is good anti-air and pretty safe on block)
Ryu (LVL3 Hurricane and LVL3 Shinkar Hadenken are both good to randomly toss out)
Sagat (LVL3 low fireball super and lvl3 tiger raid)
Yamazaki (LVL3 throw super as well as his anti-air super as ... anti-air)

Focus on characters that you can easily land the super with and which benefit from low jump. For example:

Kyo: c. short x3, upkicks, lvl3 anti-air super
Ryu: c. short, c. jab, c. forward xx Shinku Hadoken
Sagat: c. short, s. jab, c. short xx Tiger Raid
Eagle: c. jab, c. jab, c. short xx LVL3 Rush Super

As for low jumps:

Kyo: low jump d+fierce = ownage
Sagat: low jump rh
Ryu: low jump rh
Eagle: low jump rh
Yama: low jump rh is insta overhead and low jump forward is good

Also, finally keep in mind that characters like Sagat, Yamazaki, and Geese have some of the highest stamina in the game + K's bonus to life makes them VERY tough.

Oh shit ur already using Kyo lol my bad. If you can't link shorts, then just pick Vega and keep poking and low jump rh. He's super easy to use and he's cheap. He also gets the boost in stamina when he gets ownt to hard and gets raged. Finally, random kick super with him is pretty good and it has deceiving range (if some of the first hits whiff, the hit stun keeps em in place for the rest of the super to hit). And if you want really easy time, just make Vega ur ratio2, switch Kyo with Hoahmaru (because hes similar to Vega, easy to use, and does a lot of damage raged), and put Cammy 2nd. So yeah, Hoah/Cammy/Vega2 is a super simple team and they are pretty annoying.
