well the point of this thread is to just ask what games you guys wish you played competitively or seriously, that you can't anymore because the entire scene for the game is dead or pretty much dead.
vampire saviour, kof2002, and alpha3 =[.

I wish I got into GGXX or Tekken 5 but I lack the motivation and GG plays really wierd to understand it.:shake: Plus I hate the scaling on combos and difficulty in acheiving huge hits but that doesn't mean it's a bad game just different.:razzy:
Tekken because there's just so much abbreviations and stuff to know about every character so you can win and counter throw and know what each opponent's character normal does so you can defend against it appropiately.

the game just came out on ps2 and has been in the arcades less than a year. you have enough time to learn it and compete with the rest. there are ppl in the marvel scene who didn't pick the game up til like a year or two ago who are good, so...

Tekken. Sidestepping and movelist memorizations befuddle me. A shame really, since it's quite popular. I haven't quite moved beyond "mash with Christie and stare at her boobs" and ":d::df::r:+2" with Paul.
Eh, I still suck at 3D fighters in general

Yeah I can understand if most techniques were special movements or something but it's just overwhelming for me to know what to do with each defnsive/offensive option available. Woe is me.

Whats so hard about Guilty Gear?
If you understood any other fighting game (2D-wise), I really don't see whats stopping you.

I wish I had played 3s. Wasn't into fighters until a couple of years ago and by then everyone was just way too good.
And Guilty Gear is just different. I know you all miss that comfortable magic series, but times change. But I'm still a scrub at it.

VF4, the scene for it in the US seems kinda dead tho. =/

MvC2, my eyes can't seem to follow the characters in the game. I suck at tekken tag but that might change at 5

Guilty Gear isnt that bad. just put some time into it. i find it funny that the people saying that its complicated play MvC2 and that game has so much crap going on the screen i cant even watch a match vid without going straight into a seizure...

Probably Marvel and 3s. Way too late to start from scratch on Marvel tho.

Fuck, I should have spent some more time on CVS2, and 3S instead of just Marvel. Too late to do anything now really.

MVC2 and 3S. MVC2 is too fast for me and I have the same problem as him ^. I can't do infinites nor use assists properly. The only thing I can do is AHVB = (.
3S is too slow and I can't do Genei Jin comboes or even play.

Around my parts there are a couple of VF4 players but it's still pretty underground and no one's really taking time to learn it over T5 so it's pretty much a lost cause here. And i loved that old mech fighter "Tech Romancer" and "Cyber Bots" also but they'll never get popular........... :bluu: ..............T'all well!

3s, Kof 2k2/2k3, Melty Blood, Rage of the Dragon.
I just want to break people's spirits with parrying.
KoF is the reason I will one day trade ps2 pads for joysticks.
Melty Blood is just pretty. Good enough to make me want to read the manga. But I really hate playing games on computer, and it refuses to go on a console.
RoD is DD the fighting game. Why can't it just be on ps2?
MvC2, looks like fun but my eyes hurt after a minute or so of highlevel play.
3S
TTT
My main problem is not having a real console (GC and PSX doesn't count), bless Sammy for releasing #R on PC :)

To bad I never got to learn Last Bronx. It seemed to be a good game (a lot like VF), but noone touched it, so I hadn't any intention of learning it without comp. :(

I can't put any time into learning 3D fighters. I don't want to take the time to memorize the moves. And know when to use them.
Nagata Lock II
03-30-2005, 09:12 AM
I've got to go with Mark Of The Wolves. Just last night I was watching an awesome combo video (The Last Prophecy) for it and it blew me away how little I really know about a game I do enjoy. Maybe I'll try and give it another go.
I'm in the midst of learning Reload right now but it's a slow process and odds are I won't give it the time and energy it deserves.

CVS2, I just could never get into it, I went from MVC2 to 3S, and no one wanted to play CVS2 where I live so I don't know jack about that game (even though I own it for PS2)
Rage02fire
03-30-2005, 10:58 AM
I never gotted into mvc2 at all I tried to but really I never could get into the marvel series now I play the old school marvel on the kaillera scene trying to get good at it.
Also I never was able to get into 3rd strike's parrying shit I play it but i can't parry for shit or kara throw.
Also the other game was ggx
I would have really loved to learn VF4 because it was such a deep 3D fighter compared to Tekken 5. But alas it just fell apart because Guilty Gear XX came out and I was really more into that.
King Of Fighters would have been great but the button settings were always weird to me in the arcades. I'm used to going from up to down in button pressing but from side to side? Nah. Not really my thing. I would usually slip on the buttons as well.
3S was another game I would have loved to really get into. But it just wasn't my cup of tea either. Its still a good game. I play it every once in a while.

Tekken isn't so bad. I would say that 30% of the moves for each character are useful while the others are wild card moves that can change the direction of the game, yet are useless due to their startup time, recover risk/reward factor, etc. Learn the main moves in Tekken and you are off to a good start.
#reload
03-30-2005, 04:24 PM
#r SO FUCKING BAD. it neeeds to come to american arcades that aren't super important

All you guys that havent played reload go pick up that shit!! Game is fun as hell!! I wish I was better at CVS2. I have logged some matches on xbox live, but eh, didnt help my skills. That is damn good fighting engine.

Tried learning cvs2 the poking just annoyed the shit out of me. Poke poke poke, counter. couldn't get deep into it.

MvC2, I went deeeep into CvS2 and when my local arcades dropped it I just couldn't catch up with the game, I win once in a while, but things like aerialrave->super and flying are nonos for me.

I had a lot of fun playing Last Bronx on the Saturn. I've never seen it in arcades though.

I play 3S and MvC2. I always liked the marvel series ever since children of the atom. I don't play 3S much anymore cuz the game is just too damn simple, and after you get parrying and tech throwing down the game really loses it's luster. when my friend and I started neither of us knew how to do either of those things so it was like the old school street fighters but now its just a totally different game. But of course Hugo is still the shit!
As for the game I wish that I had gotten in to: KoF, all of them except for Maximum Impact. KoF '99 is the last that I played and it was tight as hell.

I'm surprised of the number of people on this thread that said that they would like to learn Tekken series. Just about every single arcade in America has a machine.
For me I would like to learn VF4:Evo (hence why I just recently bought it on PS2). Others I would like to learn would maybe be Third Strike although I play it on occasion, Capcom Vs. Snk 2 and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (yes I know I'm a little late on both although I play both on occasion, and I own CVS2 on PS2 and GC (had it first on GC since I didn't get a PS2 until this past February)).

I wish I learned 3s, but alas nobody cares because we have #R. And to all the people who say #R is too difficult or it's too late, it's NEVER too late. The game doesn't even have more then 100 or so American players that play it seriously, why not get into it and start now? Shit isn't even that difficult. Just play Sol / Faust and spam dusts and s.S's

I wish I had learned Marvel. Seems like a real fun game, complex and interesting. I think it's too late now, though. Too bad.
I'm also just starting to pick up SSBM and Tekken 5. I used to play Tekken but stopped at 3; I've forgotten everything. Learning new stuff is cool.

Probably MvC2. It's amazing how much I don't know about that game. Whenever I play it, I play it like a regular SF game trying to land crossups and linking supers off of a couple shorts. Assists? Wtf are those? Needless to say I get fucking mauled in the arcades and go back to Third Strike/CvS2 where I whimper about it being a broken button-masher while wishing I was somewhat competent at it. Looks like a lot of fun.

i wish i had gotten into virtua fighter 4. it was to hard to play and no one i knew was mentally on the level to take up such a hard game. If i did learn i would have no one to play with. so VF4 definately gets my vote.

kug is right, more #R the better
not many people play it, which is why im posting
#R is all but completely dead, and its not like anything SNK even started around here...
gotta keep on pushing for more shit...
hell, if anyone needs any help, I can help them or show them where to go
theres tons of places for help, just look around on romancancel.com
its never too late, and concidering theres already a sequel announced, best to learn a bit before that comes out, since its mainly the only 2d game coming out.
check out romancancel.com or gamecombos.com for basics and shit.

I wish I had learned CVS2. I own the game, but I never really got into it. I was more interested in playing Marvel and then 3S, so CVS2 just kind of got left in the test. Every once and awhile I'll play it, but I'm absolutely terrible. I even get crushed by the freaking AI sometimes... As cool as it is, it's just not my game.
I can't believe the number of people who think that #R is "too complex." Sure, it's a complex game at high level, but it's not hard to pick up at all. Anyone who is into 2D fighting games should be able to easy get used to the basics and then move on to mastering the game's unique properties.

I remember when this game "Battle Arena Toshineden" came out for the psx. And I was always getting beasted by the computer in the demo. I want to go back and play that game only so I can own the computer. And look at the graphics that used to look amazing back in those days.
i wish i had gotten into virtua fighter 4. it was to hard to play and no one i knew was mentally on the level to take up such a hard game. If i did learn i would have no one to play with. so VF4 definately gets my vote.
If your serious you can PM me and I'll teach you how to play. I live in the Bronx. NYC has a VF cadre I can introduce to you as well, we gather on Thursdays around Union Square.
