To me the comparison is very simple. Game + online play, even if it's not perfect > Game - online play + devil within mode. The fact is that some people benefit from online play, whereas right now noone benefits.

i honestly don't care about the live aspect that much, it was just a thought. my question was more to do with what sort of stranglehold sony has on the tekken series. ps2 architecture or not xbox could easily handle it graphically, i'm guessing there's some unspoken exclusivity deal that sony made. i just want to be able to play the game to see what the fuck the big deal is about. if i do like it i dont want to have to go out to buy a ps2 to practice at home.

Xbox is the stronger system and has a good online service set up, but the PS2 is where the money is at. With the PS2 you have a huge sales base (in both the US and Japan) and familar hardware (since T1), why try to put out an Xbox game that would only require they spend a little more cash and a lot more effort just to get it out to a few more costumers.

although the xbox is definitely outclassed by modern PCs, it's not fair to compare it directly to them. the fact that console hardware is standardized means that xbox games can be optimized a hell of a lot more to get the best performance, whereas PC games have to take into account all the different combinations of processor, graphics card, sound card etc, which results in higher system requirements for PC games. there's also the fact that it's a lot easier to just slap a higher system requirement on a game than it is to work hard on getting it to work just as well on a slower system. for a console, the xbox is damn powerful, and at the time of its release i believe it performed at a standard pretty equal with if not better than PC games at the time. of course all of this is irrelevant because most games on the xbox suck.

The reasons why Tekken 5 isn't on Xbox are pretty simple. I own an Xbox (I don't have a ps2), but I'm not going to lie to myself. ps2 has many more quality games on it and many more people own a ps2 than an Xbox, so putting it on ps2 is going to generate many more sales. Not to mention the fact that Namco definitely wanted Tekken 5 to sell well in Japan. Anyone who has looked at the Xbox sales in Japan would realize that putting Tekken 5 on Xbox would've fucked up that plan.

Sony does turn out crap games, but so does Microsoft (Drake of the 99 Dragons, anyone?), and is the lack of lighting in the PS2 version of T5 really that important to gameplay? I mean, the last thing I'd be thinking about when I'm fighting against somebody is whether or not the lighting's perfect. PS2 doesn't graphically beat the XBOX, but the quality of games made for it do.

Yeah, the reason MS is recruiting these Japanese developers is because the Xbox marketshare is tiny in Japan. They want to rememdy this with the Xbox 2, and one way to get Japanese people to buy the new Xbox is to produce more Japanese-made games for it.

Think about that phrase "total hardware dominacne." Yeah, Sony enjoys a great deal of dominance over consoles, but it isn't total. And this is a good thing. I'm sure that even many Sony developers would agree that it is a good thing too, ironically enough.

You see, with Sony, we have a video game market that is competitive, innovative, and open. It's anyone's game as long they have the ball$ to to step up to Sony and out do them. They did this to Nintendo, but the two still exist in a friendly rivialry sort of relationship. Nintendo has the handheld market on lock, pretty much, and Sony rules the hoome consoles, but it isn't a total domination scerenario on the part of either company.

But with Microsoft, they are out to rule all gaming if they can. It's plainly obvious that the X-box has been loosing money in Asia. Yet, instead of sucking up their losses and focusing on the vastly more profitable American market, they throw more money at hungry and well known developers like Hironobu Sakaguchi.

I'm not going to say that X-box is a bad console, since it's US market performance was so good for a new console with some big name conpetition. So why? is Microsoft trying to gain market in Asia, where it is doing so poorly, instead of beefing up their already good US market like most companies would do? Tekken 5 only needs one home on the console and thats the PS2. Fighting games arent popular enough to sell millions on all console. IF that was true, than we would see capcom releasing more MVC2 titles for both PS2 and Xbox instead of just a limited quantity. PS2 is where the money is at so why whould you need to go else where?? PS2 owners wanted Resident Evil 4 on the PS2. With enough demand, capcom decided that they will release RE4 for the PS2 later on this year. Just do yourself a favor and get Tekken 5 for the PS2 so all your problems can be solve.

I stay with the PS2 console is because they got better games, better directors, better companies support, and better producers.

The reason the hot Gamecube titles(Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7) are sliding onto PS2 is because the system is just without question the cash cow in this situation. Halo doesnt have what any other FPS doesnt have and really is a n00bs FPS considering it shows more action and camping than any gameplay depth whatsoever. Why play against EO guiles and EX-grooves who dont even take the game seriously or play it competitively. Then theres the droppers, the lag abuse, the lack of roll cancel and all the other bullshit that come from playing a XBL fighter. I'd rather play CvS2 the way it was meant to be played.
