Has playing 3s on-line made your gaming worse?

I ask this 'cause I hear about timing on parries changing. I'm sure even milliseconds off will ruin my game if this is true.

But, yeah, parrying and other things, has the on-line experience affected your playing in a bad way?

I either play online or not at all. That's probably true for many of us in this world of dying arcades. So no, my game is better online.

But, if I had to guess and looked back on my arcade days, I'd say that yes online play probably does have a negative effect on real life play.

I'd have to say that it's made my game better. But saying that, I was a below average player to start with and I believe that if I was a 'top tier' player coming onto Live then my game might get worse with these timing issues.

Online gives you a chance to learn new things from players that are thousands of miles away. While sure, timings may be different. But you can always readjust your timings by going into training mode and what not and practice up before a tournament.

It takes me a couple games to get back on track, but if you are new to 3S then you will get suck into lag tactics. Its soooooo many lag tactics uses online, but I don't think they are doing it on purpose.

PS:Yes online play will mess up your game because in tournie people parry alot. Were online because of lag you can do the same move over and over.Yes online play is not perfect but with no arcade near what else can we do to get good comp. for fighting games? Really there are no really good player online. All the good player I know I get a laggy conn. so I force to play noobs.(No offen. to anyone)

I agree with the online or nothing at all. I mean back in the early 90's yeah I was in the arcades but haven't been to arcades in a long ass time.

My gaming offline has improved alot because of my training online. If it wasn't for live I would suck so hard...

Hehe. Don, I think you mean "bad" not "hard". Slight slip up in your english that could mean something else.....

As for better or worse, it only takes a couple of games to adjust either way. I generally stick to playing people with nice connections where the lag is minimal.

Damn right it has. I now suck at every other fighter I used to play. All these easy target combos and super cancels have made me slack. Not to mention the ease of the parrying and combos has made JD and certain combos on CvS2 feel damned near impossible lately.

But seriously, I sucked on 3S when I first got AC. Now I have an average Oro and an average 'cheap' Ken! :karate:

I have to play a couple of rounds to adjust back to offline play, but online did fuck up my links when I played 600+ games in one weekend on Live or so, because all I did was punish, and no linking =/

i play online and offline, and i would say that online doesn't really affect my offline play at all.

No issues. I don't find it difficult to adjust timing at all.

I would say compared to playing the the arcade in Ne before online, then after online. My arcade play on the arcade cabinet has improved. It's not that much of a difference between reg arcade play on a cabinet then online. Just have to adjust :pleased:

Its the little nuances that you need to delete while playing online. Fancy footwork and little "tick" timings that I rely on so much offline just don't fly online. I don't think it makes me any better or worse just different style of play. Lag free online play maybe more than a few years away so we gotta deal with what we have and adapt. I think I got my hopes up way to high when I bought the xbox live street fighter. But its still nice to play and talk to other players even if the online play is less than perfect. But it sure would feel nice to be able to land some large chain super combos that I have worked so hard to perfect over the years online.

It wont affect your game. Fact of the matter is the lag sucks, but shit happens at arcades with joysticks that are unavoidable too. No game is ever really perfect. :P

Bottom line is you should be able to beat someone regardless or lag or whatever (if its too bad its not worth playing though).

I mean, the parrying is fine, just takes some adjustment. Last night I parried all the way thru this guys hurricaine kick and all kinds of shit no problem. I cannot red parry though. I cant seem to find the timing on it and ate some hurricane kicks for my efforts. haha.

It took me a bit to get warmed up to it, I used ot hate it. Last night I ws able to land almst everything. My big thing was hitting the FP after makotos karakusa but I found the timing on that as well.

I think it is pretty decent practice because you sitll have to play against someone who has a different stlye of playing than what you may be used to.

I went back and played my friends who are a lot better than anyone on XBL and I did just fine, if not better.

It defanitly helps you adapat and dont get hung up on something when you fuck up becuase you kind o expect there to be a bit of lag here and there.

Give it a shot!

Playing online hasn't ruined my offline play, Oddly enough it helps me parry more offline. Since online you need to parry split second before than you normally would offline.

Plus there is alot of scrubs out there who do random supers from full screen (thanks you guys, you helped my parrying skills become even more superior than before)

Gotta love the Ken players who do SA III right infront of you, just so you can parry it and punish them. Or Remy players that do their SA I from full screen in hopes of chipping you to death. (Bravo, gentlemen bravo).

Sure Lag can effect the game but then again, Online play is just for fun, learning new things from others, and just to mess around.

If I've just practiced offline/online, I have a hard time relearning Mak's Karakusa combo timing. I'll hit everything online in practice mode, then jump online and have all my Fierce's parried>_<

ok orignally online play hasnt affected my offline play, like i stated at the beginning of this thread. but now that has changed since the US release. with the 76887645% increase in really shitty players, it has really affected my game. the online factor doesnt affect me, its the opponent. the players are so bad, that i can do anything and get away with it, which in turn, will make me develop bad habits and ill start doing that shit on a competent player. i swear, where did all the decent players go?

I have been reduced to 1/4 of my real playing power thanks to online play. Everyone ive fought so far have been easy..but yet they still manage to get thw win on me. I lost 5o times to one opponent and only got 14 on him. He was good but had the lag not been a issue...there would have been so many times i could have parried and send his ass to hell.At any rate online has killed my 3rd Strike skills.

I got so fustrated with lag today I started mashing buttons. Yeah it takes me a few games to readjust to offline play again. You can't really play your usual game unless it's a really good connection.

I find this so true for myself as well. There is a remote difference, (partly in the lag you suffer from) but after few matches offline you snap right back into shape, and vise versa when you go to online mode.

Playing offline has made my game way worse. I didn't notice this until I recently got to play this kid from Pittsburg. I can't tell you how many times I miss timed parrys because I got so used to online play. So I haven't played online for about a week and a half now and I don't plan on getting back online for a while.

The videos of us playing will be on ComboVideos in the coming days so you guys will see what I am talking about. The matches were casuals and the set was a stale mate, I.E. pretty much tied, but I know I could have done much better had my parry game been on. Whereas the dude I faced, he was an amazing parry-er. He really deserved the name parryall in the games we played.

So with that plus the immense amount of scrub droppers I'm giving AE a rest for a while.
