Welcome to Atlanta, Georgia's second GGXX and #R thread! We're a group of serious Guilty Gear players that care about developing the ATL South into a force in #R. We've been holding active gatherings and training sessions for more than a year now, with great success thanks to the many visitors we've had over the past year. First and foremost we are about having fun!

Visitors from Georgia, the ATL South and all over the US are always welcome and we're looking to make this thread even more successful than the last.

The gatherings are centered around PS2 console play held at the home of one of our key members, Charles "Pimpjuice". I hope we can make new efforts to reach out to new players and all our existing friends.

One of the founding members, Charles is the generous host of GGXX Fridays/Saturdays. Originally trained in the great scene of Miami, Charles was a regular at the now famous GGXX Sundays hosted by Heidern98. A flexibile fast learner, and a versatile tactician Charles has the ability to adapt quickly and learn new characters at a fast pace. His Eddie is not to be missed.

History:
Yusuf has been playing Guilty Gear since the beginning, with experience in GG1, X, XX and now #R. Joining the competitive scene about a year ago, Yusuf has done nothing but improve since. His main traits are a strong spirit that thrists for improvement, and fast learning. This man doesn't let a loss get to him. Possessing a strong knowledge and fundamentals makes him one of the smarter players. This man is the future of the scene.

History:
Joining the GGXX scene recently, Jason's Testament has no where to go but up. Has been able to learn quickly thanks to experience from other fighting games like CvS2.

History:
One of the oldest and most respect members of the group. Originally made a name for himself in the Super Turbo and CvS2 scenes. Although not a regular now, Colin brings his vast experience and insight to the scene when he is present. His contributions are valued and he is a quick learner. His Venom is a special treat.

History:
Although not often seen, Raul is a success waiting to happen. Possessing a lot of potential, Raul has learned eagerly whenever present. Has played Guilty Gear since the beginning. His Baiken is making solid progress everyday. Also an avid GGI player.

History:
The newest player to join the scene. Calvin claims that he will someday be a god, and he might just do it. Showing strong potential in his playing, Calvin has nowhere to go but up. A fast learner with strong basics.

History:
The die hard Marvel player makes his unexpected full conversion to the world of Guilty Gear and along side his friend "FBC" is on a mission to reach top tier status. A determined and strong willed candidate, Cool-Breeze has shown that he has the desire and background to reach his goal.

Main Character: Baiken

History:
Well known in the Atl South for a long time now, Raph has one of the deadliest Baikens in the game. He has a rich playing background, moving from Greenville, to Augusta, and finally here in Atlanta. He is also a member of Team Bum's House. Claims he will quit if his controller dies.
Raph is probably the most accomplished player out of all of us in tounaments, having put marneto out of every tournament, but he still loses to instant kills! Eddie is cheap.

- Combos are the best. attack/defend are good and mixup is harder to guess/see..
- Mixup is spontaneous and appropriately distributed between high/low/throw.

- Combo's are the best. attack is well thought out.. defend is great can see mixup and can avoid long combos using IB..
- Can get the overall game plan done with ease..
- Mixup is very hard to predict/see
- Very seldomly gets hit by burst

being able to change your tatics to fit the moment.
- Combo's are the best. attacks are well thought out. Defense is

- Understands how to avoid and punish bursts, perhaps can burst throw.

-May work as in air to air exchange, air to ground exchange or even ground to air.
-Depends exactly on which attack is used and the specific follow up.
-IB meaty jump-ins and counter throw as they land, eg. Jam's j.hs


1 Sol

1.IB first hit of bandit bringer sol's = free throw/combo (Pimpjuice)
2.IB last hit of sol's bandit revolver= escape rush varies (Pimpjuice)
3.Sol Fireball (Non Frc) on wakeup = clash/escape/counter hit (varies)(Pimpjuice)
4.IB Sols 5.hs = counter the bandit bringer with whatever you can (FlashMetroid)
5.IB Sols 5.k = Dp before his next poke (FlashMetroid)

all in all it seems that Ibing his gunflame will help you most in your sol matches

2 Ky

4.Kys ride the lighting super=grab during the super (Solaris)

hmm to me its all about 6hs and 6k ibing those will help most you in a ky match

3 Eddie

1.IB Eddies 2s = escape drill/eddie poke(Pimpjuice)
2.IB 3 hits on eddies buzz = counter throw/dp (varies) (Pimpjuice)
3.IB floating K,S or Hs Ibing those in the air will get you free throws
4.IB close shadow galley can jump and throw before sec hit (Pimpjuice)

I think Ibing his Floating attacks and trying to throw/dp will help you in this match

4 Testment

1.Web on wakeup Can= (varies) escape throws and overhead (Pimpjuice)
2.IB testaments hcf+S = Dp through his attack(Chili Dog)
3.IB test First hit of Gatling =back dash thru C.s(Chili Dog)
4.IB Testaments hungry hungry hippo = dp if he trys anything (FlashMetroid)
5.IB Testaments Grave Digger = free attack (TotenKreuz480)

Looks like Ibing on wakeup and any hippos will help you the most in this match

Ibing butterfly will help you most but anji can adapt to an Ib butterfly so becareful


5 Slayer

3.IB Jump ins = free air throw (Pimpjuice)
4.IB the 1st S in the S, S from slayer and you get a free throw. (altron1x)

Ibing Slayers Slashes and Jumpins will help you most in this match



6 Johnny

1.IB Johnny 6k = escape/attack (Pimpjuice)

all I know is Ibing 6k really hurts johnnies overall rush patterns


7 Baiken

1.IB Baiken 2dust= counter hit on matt (Pimpjuice)
2.IB baikens Close 2k = throw (SSJ George Bush)
3.IB baikens Standing Yzn = free combo (TotenKreuz480)
4.IB the 2nd hit of Baiken's super = throw/DP/super. (halcyonryu)
5.IB Jump ins = free air throw (Pimpjuice)

Ibing 2,4 and 5 for 5 its mainly for Jumping Hs doing those should help you in a baiken match


8 Dizzy

1. IB Dizzy's 2.d = follow up with an attack to escape
- If they cancel into 236HS IB that also and follow through. Beware a second 2.d (Andrew Ferguson)
- Ky notes: follow up with slide, or run up, far S-slide.
2. During a mixup that uses 623S to pinpoint, IB the needle and:
- Counter throw if she goes low with 2.k
- Dp (if you have one) if she attempts to go high
- Counter throw if she tries to throw, praying that she's in range (her ground throw range is better than most characters)

The Game System Itself: Anyone can pull off a fireball or dragon without knowing the properties of the move. For some gamers, they know the actual "strength" of their characters moves and what effect it has on an opponent. I believe that knowing your characters properties, strengths, and weaknesses makes your character more understanding. Not to mention, knowing the schematics that are not character specific, because everyone can ID, so to know that and apply to your game makes you solid. IMO

Knowing your opponents character: Okay, so it's not exactly neccessary to sit back and study the person you are playing extra carefully, but I've had some good experience in knowing what the other characters are capable of doing. Knowing this will definitely give some advantage to your character or to your own blend of mixups and strategies against that specific character, and not only the character but the person playing because every person plays slightly or very much different.

Experience! Experience! Experience: It also takes a lot of practice, let's face it, Guilty Gear in itself is a slightly advanced game with -many- features to make it so versitile. But like any game you gotta take your beatings left and right if you want to improve your game. Sometimes losing is the best victory in a game, because then you'll discover what your opponent is most likely to abuse and where his openings seem to be. But it's not easy, it could take anywhere from 1 to 1 million matches before discovering those keypoints. But if you ever reach this point in your gaming then you're already solid, but it takes a bit of time.

Well, that, in my strongest opinion, is what I believe defines "solid". Sure there's some people who are freakin Titanium in games[Jwong,Daigo,bunch of nigs] but even they get licked once in a while.

Yeah we may make a few mistakes here and there, but everyone is well on their way to mastering the character they've chosen, some quicker or sooner than others.

So with that being said, I'm out. But note, this is just my opinion on what the term "Solid" means to me.

Actually, with FR8 being just around the corner, most of your practice will have to come from self-practice and perhaps any decent match vids you might watch. We'll obviously make for some plans to practice like crazy before FR8, I mean the hotel rooms will be packed with games the night before so you'll get your practice in, no worries.

Honestly, there's no better place TO PLAY than at Final Round. The ATL(GA specifically) doesn't host a big number of tournaments with a lot of competition, Athens and Augusta have their monthly's, but normally it's the same amount of people you would be playing as if you were in your own home. And since you said you're not keen on the long drives and travelling, I can think of no better place than to play. Besides, my first tournament was FR8, just imagine if I went there with no knowledge of what I have now, just think of what you might be able to do with the knowledge that you have now. With at least 29 people playing #R, and then the casuals at all the Hotel rooms, you might want to reconsider. You won't regret it, I can assure you that much. :tup:

If I can get a chance to hook up with you guys, I can probably give you some good practice with Slayer, since that's the main person I play. i'm kinda rusty now though, but I should be able to brush it off after a couple of matches.

I'm glad you brought that up, because that's exactly the basic flaw with most gamers. What's the obession over whether your character is "ready" or not? The problem you just illustrated is that people only ever want to participate if they think they have a "good chance" of winning. You know what happens with that kind of attitude? Nobody shows up to anything, nobody plays, and nobody really gets better. Honestly I'm just kinda pissed off at the self-consciousness of so many gamers.

The truth is that a tournament needs more people to show up and participate regardless. The scene honestly needs more people that are willing to put their pride aside and just play regardless of whether they think they will win or lose. That's not just the tournaments, the fighting game scene as a whole really needs it.

Just accept that there are players better than you out there, you can't expect to look good in front of everyone, the same goes for me too. There's always someone better than you out there, so why worry about being the absolute best anyway?

I think if you just participate and play in Final Round, that act by itself, and the experience of being there will bring your playing up a notch or two. It always happens. If you think of it as a learning experience, participation alone should be motivation enough to go. I honestly think you missed out by not coming with us to the Augusta tournies and seeing Raph play. As a Baiken player that would've really helped you out. Don't let the opportunity pass you again.

That said, life does happen and sometimes we can't do the things we want to. But you should also take a close look at the reasons why you don't want to go and really analyze which are legit.

I hope this doesn't come off offensive, sometimes I'm heavy-handed and impose my attitudes on others, or expect other people to behave like me. Honestly though, I'm posting because I'm afraid you'll talk yourself into not going.

Bottomline, nothing personal, and go to Final Round because I guarantee the experience will be worth it.

All tournys are daunting. And you would be surprised how much better you will play vs your eveydayself. The pressure and drama adds too your game. If you live close by and your not going, then you are so cheating your self. If you go , you will never want it to end. Hell i will go 2 and out on most games I will play and spend a lot of cash i can't spend but its so worth it. Why not go to one of the best events in all of videogaming? At least go the day of #R.

Yeah, Im probably beating a dead horse now, but I'd definitely like to add my testimony in. I first attended the final round 5 tournament for MVC2 and I didn't even enter the tournament becuase I didn't have any money. But I got a chance to chill with some real good cats the night before and played after the tourney, and just from all of that, I got momumentally better. You gotta think also, the tournament'll last like i don't know, all day, Then you got your casuals. From just watching, you be so much better, it's crazy. Plus, if anything, it's just fun. Kinda makes you forget about all the crap you may be going through in life.

My first tournament period was at arario's as a matter of fact slayer was there didn't know me from crap and was giving me pointers all the way threw til I got aced by 50Morecentz (Max) I have met some of the best people I can be around here in the atl, threw the gaming world.

Im never afraid of losing cause its always in the back of my mind that there is a chance there is some jambroni out there better than me hell I learned Marval from other people I never knew of any strategy guides in MvC2, that fact alone made me bottom tier but people at underground didn't know that I talked enough shit to back up enough of my game play to look great.

Never feel and ass whooping in any form, learn from it, the experience I mean, build from it,enjoy what fun you can get out of it and move on.

Nothing's gotten into me, it's more like it was a rant waiting to happen. A couple of things though, first I said it was nothing personal. Second, we're more worried about you not participating more than anything else.

The truth is we haven't been able to talk you into coming into any tournaments yet, and you haven't played at one of the gatherings for months. A philosophy of characters not being "ready" suggests to me a player that is afraid of doing poorly. And I'm not saying that because of you, but rather a lot of other gamers I've met. And if that isn't pride what is?

You also talk about the drive for being the best. While this is important, I just don't see you doing what's necessary to reach that goal yet. If you want to be the best, you need to expose yourself to better players and therefore go to large tournaments. You need to play using the character you want to improve, because they'll never be ready enough, and you need to take your losses. That's how you get better, not by waiting until you're ready. There's also a difference between striving to be the best, and expecting to be the best. That's what I was trying to get at.

Don't get me wrong, I thought we were cool with this. It isn't a personal attack, so you don't need to get defensive. I'll also admit to being more anal and not as kind as some of the others in here, but I think I've said as much before.

Since the big Southern Tournament is one week away. We should possibly discuss any important or non-important information or plans that we might need to go over throughout this week.

Wow, what a great time. FR8 was off the hook, with great competition all around. It was good to see all those good friends again. The tournament itself and all the casuals before and after were too much fun. So much I want to say but not enough room or time. I hope the full results go up soon. Then I have to post the longest shoutouts in history.

But for now, congrats to our own players who participated. I think you all did great.

Charles, you repped that Eddie great as expected. A lot of good players didn't know what do against your stuff. I bet it felt good to have your tricks work. Play that junk and cheap as possible! I hope you had fun watching and playing against Martin's Eddie.

Yusuf, you should be our real MVP. That worst #R player BS has to go. You doubted yourself the whole time but you ended up doing real well. You beat some of the best players in the nation in casual and were one of our reliable pillars in the team tournament. Never have regrets anymore and go into the future with confidence. You have nowhere to go but up and I hope FR8 let you see that.

Will probably post more later. Meanwhile if anyone can remember detailed results past the first 4 places that would be great. I also don't remember all of our matches, so post up who you played, and who you remember facing. I think some people will want to know.

I was eventually eliminated by Cue, couldn't be happier with the opponent. Put in losers by Matt McCoy "Ravenstorm" himself, that made me real happy, nice to see his Ky come so far.

Highlights for me included facing Asian Hitler and having to fight Matt again in the loser's bracket.

It seemed it took a whole year for me to realize there is a broader size to games, and with you two helping me I was able to get there. But we repped good, and we're definitely proud of how everything turned out. Wish you were there for Sunday though Mike, we got a tape of many casuals in #R, not to mention a big group picture of all the #R players. We'll show you the tape soon, cause I blew up in some of those matches which was insane. But yeah, the Worst #R Player thing is just reverse psychology for me. I gotta make myself believe I suck in order to do well. I dunno, just a fucked up mindgame for me I guess. Anyway, more later to come.

Man, I'm really sad I missed this.

One thing I just remembered that I think we should all do. We should make some kind of written record of how we think we improved at FR8. That way the next time we're feeling down, we can look to it as a reminder. And on a subconscious level, maybe it will make us remember the experience we had.

I think playing everyone at FR8 improved my reaction time and complexity of thought overall. I have more confidence in my execution and plans. The number of different responses to different situations I'm thinking of and can execute has increased. I've realized new options in both new and familiar scenarios. Overall I think the speed of my reactions, the speed at which I play, the speed at which I think, and the depth at which I think have increased. It wasn't just about learning more options and responses, it was about getting that additional volume simultaneously with more speed and integrating that all at once.

One thing I still need to work on is blocking overheads more consistently, especially dust attacks. I also need to remember to use my IB's more effectively, IB and dragon, backdash, jump, throw, or poke, do something. Sometimes I still IB and waste the opportunity by not doing anything. But I'm really happy with the learning material I got from FR8.

ya since tit and evo will be my last 2 majors before the next guilty gear game (im retiring in #r after evo I think) then I definitely wanna show out like I know I can. I'm aiming for a serious top20 finish...I think if we all work at it, Atl.South can take at least 50-75% of the top 20 at evo. I honestly believe after FR8 that we are all capable of it. Only a few crews could be troublesome, one of which is TX and they proved that at fr8 taking 2&4 solidly.

anyways...I'll have my money match with Peter and all the tourney matches I got up this week...it's just a hassle to sit and encode and organize vids, and I haven't honestly felt up to it this weekend.

I agree with KDX. After EVO I'm retiring until the next game comes out for the Guilty Gear series, by that time it should happen. So, let's all work hard and try to make EVO. My Baiken should be ready by then, so I'll have two characters to bring with me instead of just Anji. Anyway, I gotta go practice now. Thanks for the praise Yusuf, but just like everybody else, I've got things I need to work on also. I could be better prepared for certain matchups, not the least of which is Ky vs. Ky. I also need to block overheads more consistently. Those are some of the things I'm working on right now.

I'd definitely like to make Evo this year also, but it really depends on what my work situation is by then.

Now I'll address these things.
One: Money matches between you and I were and are fewtile. Why you ask? Cause with money on the line you will NEVER EVER beat me in Marval.

Secondly:Money matches were my idea true because you wanted to prove a point, In Tekken your whole thing was all about beating Clint on the grandest stage in front of everyone right? Your idea Your Plan. So what happened you had your shot? <------(Get It Your Idea Your Plan.

Third: I had Man Money Matches lined up for Final Round But... None of ya'll showed up the only one who did was Duc Jr and he almost got his ass whooped Before, During and After Final Round. I also played the 17 year old boy at Underground on broke sticks along with Clint as we tag teamed and owned him til Charles came to pick him up. Plus I have an Apartment to take care of and bills I got stuck between paying my lights or going to Final Round which in fact is the first one I have missed ever since I got on the scene.

Those V3 changes sound interesting, I'm always up for the challenge of adapting to new properties.

I've already found two different versions of the translations however, so I guess I'll wait for more concrete final information before making any guesses.

Overall though, more pushback means a different feel to combos, perhaps the emphasis on loops and the like will go down.

Oh and, Eddie j.k getting an -increase- in priority? Let me think about that for a second...wtf.

And I thought the little character macros by the lifebars were a useful gameplay feature that hadn't been done by anyone else. I wonder why they decided to axe them.

I'll be happy as long as we eventually get access to it, PS2 or otherwise. People are talking about the Japanese sticking to the "better" version, whatever it will be, but as far as I've seen, the newer version almost always ends up being the standard. Alpha 3 perhaps being a rare exception.

We should be prepared to switch standards soon or later in the year. I'm hoping this isn't the GGX3 everyone was talking about though, and that there's still something else new on the horizon...

Quick question, what are the differences between XBOX #R and PS2 import #R. I found myself missing a lot of stuff at FR8 because of it. Also note that I am using magic box + HRAP combo.

I doubt it's a processing power issue...I don't think #R is all that intensive for the Naomi 2. Maybe they thought it was abusable?

There shouldn't be any difference between XBox #R and Import PS2 #R. They're both blue Reload. In my opinion, they're the same, and lag is the primary issue, but apparently there's room for debate.

I once got involved in a conversation about PS2 #R vs. XBox #R vs. Arcade Blue #R. The problem was that it got messy because we couldn't even agree on the base ground for the discussion.

In my opinion from playing all three versions, the PS2 and Arcade versions are very close, I have no difficulty switching between the PS2 and Arcade versions (which I did on a daily basis in HK). FRC's and all.

But I know one person who claims the XBox version is closer to the arcade version (I don't agree). I know someone else who thinks the PS2 version is faster than the arcade, again I don't agree.

Add that to the fact that lots of PS2 players refuse to play on the XBox version, for one reason or another and you begin to wonder if there's something going on. Lastly, converter lag makes the whole thing even more complicated. Another thing to consider is that many TVs and the Arcade screens all may have different refresh rates, and ways of drawing lines which all confound the issue, and may add to the illusion of different speed or timing.

In summary I'm all confused, I don't even know where to start describing it to you, or if it's a real or imagined problem. I honestly think lag aside, all 3 versions (PS2, XBox, Arcade) should all be the same, or close enough that performing essential gameplay moves (FRC's etc.) shouldn't be a problem. Lastly I can personally vouch for the PS2 version being an accurate port of the arcade game, based on my experience.

I dunno if that helped, maybe there are other reasons that you had difficulty at FR8? That's not a personal flame at all. You could've had an off day, we all do. And maybe there is lag on the magic box, I dunno. Wish I could help more.

Well see I do think there is a difference because from experience I have noticed that timing is slightly different. I mean sure I was having a bad day but like I never go into IK mode when I try to do FRC HS. At FR8 I did it twice and I did it once when I was up in AUG playing on Raph's version. But he had the PAL version so maybe that was it o.o

All the good characters with some exceptions got new shit (slayer has more mixup options WTF? and eddies new priority for the j.k...somethings definitely wrong with that) and the really mid characters got either nerfed to hell or got some really nice changes (ky has 2 different single stun edges and has to do charged stun edge with dust) more mixup for ky perhaps?...there must be a reason behind all the new changes but again the translations arent reliable thus far so i guess we can only hope to see some more changes

at least they didnt do so much to my baiken or dizzy heh :tup:

I'm sure most of you have heard about it, right? I read Bootleg's post in the GA Thread, spoke about the gaming tournaments they're holding. If by luck I pass my driving test, I think I might go. It's a convention so even if the gaming is fucking crap, I can still go out and buy some anime and what not. Just thought I'd pass this one on to anyone who wants easy money in Guilty Gear. However, it seems they're running Isuka and X2, I am not sure if it's X2#R or just plan old X2. Either way, I doubt anyone at that convention is going to really be at a level that is competitive. It's practically easy money or prizes. Welp, that's my update for now. Any idea when we can play again?

Charles. That one combo from your PSP Anji did on KY. You can't link to ON. Once they tech, Anji just whiffs ON. But you can FRC ON into throw. But that's wasted meter because you can just JC into a regular air throw. Not sure if it works when they tech forward, but back and neutral he'll just miss it.

edit: just checked. he whiffs it completely. i doubt there will ever be anything from an ANJI CV that you can USE in a real match. Unless they're just that damn good. Cause obviously I am not.

Hey guys, sorry I've been away, graduation has been busier than I thought it would be and I still won't be free until a while longer. Still around and practicing though...

Been catching up with E3 news, looks like a lot of great stuff, I haven't been this excited about games for a while. I like how both handheld Guilty Gear games are looking right now, even if they aren't actually fighters. Judgement looks like a direct continuation of GGI's Boost mode, while Dust Strikers looks like a series of mini games?

I'm also really liking the way the new Castlevania DS is looking. More of the same, but still really good... Zelda Twilight Princess of course looks hot, and even though it's really far away, the comedy trailer for MGS4 was at least entertaining. Oh, and RE4 PS2, although looking noticably less impressive, doesn't look as bad as I thought it would, as long as it plays well.

And one last plea on my part, let's try not to forget what the spirit of this scene is about. I noticed that Ben (Silent Shinobi) and Iceman have both recently posted about wanting to play at gatherings. Even if we're not free, at the very least we shouldn't ignore their interest. The only way this scene can continue to grow is because of hungry young players. I do know that Charles bears the majority of the burden for gatherings though, and it's ultimately his call. Sometimes though, I think we are too comfortable within the Fantastic Four.

Have a good summer guys, gaming or not, and I'll make sure to post up again the next time I can play.

Anyway, I haven't posted on here much because I hardly get any online time because of work. So me posting is limited. I still practice here and what not. Started playing with May for lack of enjoyment. Everyone else in #Reload has seemed to bore me, except for Anji of course. Well, whenever we can play again I'll see what I can do. I can drive now, because I got my license, but that doesn't mean I can add to the cause just yet. I don't know where anything is, and I don't have a car of my own. Eventually, when I'm more comfortable driving around the city and I have my own transportation and free time, I can probably lighten the load with Charles on picking people up.

That being said, I'm going to play a little #R.

Yo whatsup ATL #R'ers.

Getting the word out that NC is having a console tournament June 18th and we're trying to continue its growth. It's the 5th tournament at this location in about 9 months and the turnout has gotten progressively larger. It's an internet cafe called Gamefrog with two huge flat screens and 9 smaller flat screen tv's that are available. Last time T5 had 65-70 entrants, along with around 20+ for 3rd Strike and CVS2 with the turnout being mostly NC (Fayetteville, Charlotte, Durham, Greensboro) along with a few VA cats. We are also distrubuting a flyer around cities in our areas to try to bring some new people into things and help ensure a good turnout. We have a good size group of players and we're really trying to improve on getting the out-of-state comp. We're running #R again and will hopefully have about 10-12 from our state entering.
