4 was way too easy for me. I could have that game beat in more than enough time to make it to all the bosses.

Damn right, SS2 is the BEST fight sword game released until today (imo) this shows that new games donīt necessary mean better games.

SS2 rocks

Besides mvs and acs what consoles is SS2 on?

I enjoyed Samurai Shodown II more than any other game in the series, too bad it's next to impossible to find in the arcades these days.

As far as non-NeoGeo home conversions go, Samurai Shodown I and II Collection for PlayStation (Japan only) was an unfortunate mess, suffering from horrible loading times and numerous hacked animation frames, not to mention the fact the "ending sequences" were inexplicably censored. The best conversion of any SS game to date was probably Samurai Shodown IV for the Saturn (again, Japan only), that game simply rocked.

I have a copy of SS2 for my SNES. I don't know what else it's available on.

As previously mentioned, SS2 was only ever released on Neo Home, Neo CD, and Japanese Playstation... oh, and PC several years later.

I seem to remember a guy with tuberculosis kicking my butt over and over again in SS2.

That's wrong on a lot of levels.

Shit, you're right. I win the dumbass award for the night. Samurai Shodown and Samurai Shodown 2 are definitely not the same game... I have no idea what I was thinking.

Exactly, tell me a modern fighting game, tekken and all the other crap included that can touch the stuff from CAPCOM and SNK, tho Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast came pretty close in my book.

I would love EMULATED!, and hear me EMULATED releases of this games on PS3 PS2 or whatever, I want the same shit as the arcade, untouched! no cinemas, no crapy FMV, no flashy 3D backgrounds like the conversion of KOF 98 for the Dreamcast (tho it rocked), pure unadulterated CAPCOM SNK goodness, and I even want to have to put coins in with a button. oh how sweet is that!!! (drooling).

Samurai Shodown is SNK. But a new version with updated graphics would kick so much ass. Although personally I got to ask am I the only one that liked the Slash/Bust system in place in SS3-SS64-2.

Jaymzaddiction
03-11-2005, 09:28 PM
I personally do not dislike the Slash/Bust system, but I found it to be a little shallow, bust mode is more refined and deadly of you master it well, but the slash mode was unfair against a not experienced player, Samsho 3 rocked too make no mistake about it, and I agree with the updated graphics, just as long as I get the original in the same package, It's just too hard to let go of the NEOGEO and CPS systems, I cant! I just can't! I won't!

Ummm, slash and bust merely defined what special moves your character had. Basically it doubled the number of available characters. There are no engine differences between the two modes at all.

Man, I've never played SS in my life until I got SS 0 for PS2, and I must say this game is pretty slow and boring. I'm pretty sure that there's more to learn, but SS is totally not for me.

You got the short end of the stick. Not as bad as if you had bought the PS version(sequel) of Samurai Shodown: Warrior's Rage but still a short stick. So far the top games in the series (in no particular order) are SS2, SS5/0 Special, and SS 4.

But the SS series is usually slower paced than most games so maybe you just don't care for that sort of game play.

That's very much like saying "I've never played Street Fighter before, but I got Street Fighter Alpha for my Playstation and wow, Street Fighter sucks!"

or... "I've never played a Marvel game before, but I tried Xmen COTA and what a pile the Marvel games are."

Just a little suggestion, you might want to try the games in the Samurai Shodown series that are actually considered to be good, like SS2 or SS4.

I enjoyed the Sam Sho series. Sam Sho 1 when it cameout was a breath of fresh air compared to all the SF clones that was out at the time. 2 improved on that. I own Sam sho 1,2,3,4,5 on emulator and consoles. I'll admit 3 was better on saturn but 4 was ok on PSX. I'll admit that the PSX verison of Sam Sho 1 and 2 was hacked somewhat but I didn't mind (This is from a guy who stays SF2 Turbo on the SNES from time to time even though he has Collection 2 on PSX)

thats right, the fun of samsho is depth of the gameplay over fast paced action, dont get me wrong I love MVC and all capcom superfast paced fighters, heck I love guity gear even but from time to time I like a little slashing finesse :karate:

Actually I don't know if fierceslash is done for good. Madcow might end of up making it into something or other, like a dedicated Samsho site again. But considering that we've all hung up our Samsho hats here, I doubt theres any interest in promoting any other SNK games anymore. We've shut our doors on 2D games for the most part and we all just play 3D.

Our last Samsho tourney was a blast though 40 peeps lol. Should have videotaped it but eh fuck it. (Mad pulled some crazy assed shit in all 5 samshos that would make you think it was mvc2 lol) Although nostalgia gives it props in most peoples books, noone really cares about the game anymore.

I'll be the first to admit that it wasn't the gameplay of SS 1 and 2 that sucked me in, it was purely the aesthetic appeal. While strategy seemed to consist mainly of trying to nail a jump-in fierce slash to drain 1/3 of your opponent's lifebar, the visuals leapt right out of a Kurosawa epic. They were awesome for their time. That, and Earthquake was freakin' HUGE at the time, no one had seen a fighting game sprite that big before. :pleased:

SS1 alone sold me on a NeoGeo system, unfortunately my wallet refused to cooperate.

Ahhhh, ss2. Fun, BEAUTIFUL game. The best in my book...now if someone can point me to a link where I can download Cham Cham's Green Hell stage bgm, I'd REALLY appreciate it. This game owns so hard it's insane. I don't see why it hasn't been ported to the gameboy advance/sp by now. So...has anyone been able to determine exactly what Ukyo's saying (the japanese phrase, not the english translation) when he does his aerial hcf + slash? It sounds like "Sorry ice!" in ss1, and "Duromei dice!" in ss2...I know damn well he ain't speaking english and saying "Swallow Swoop Slice" like it says on the game marquee...

From the ost or rom? I have the rom and use both winkawaks and mame. If someone could tell me how to rip using an emu (I've heard it was possible...somewhere) I can save you the trouble.

Yeah SSII is a great great game. SS0 tries to imitate it, but SSII still comes ontop. I want to see SS on the Atomiswave, I hope SNK is more creative with 6, (which is in the works) SSV was not bad, I love Concentration mode (EASY 100% COMBOS ANYONE, YOU MOVE OR PRESS A BUTTON YOU DIE!!!!!) I'd have to say Yumeji is a cool as hell character. Mina is just annoying...maybe its the damn pet (LOL) I hear Yoshitora has an infinite combo on BT (backturn)-crouch B, qcf+b, repeat fast...ONLY ON BT. Tested it and it works!

Maybe if Last Blade 2 hadn't been like, broke as fuck from Speed mode combos, you'd have an argument. But 75% combos for characters like Lee or Akari, and bullshit from Shigen and Zantetsu...LB2 is a fun game, but it's not a competitive one.

Since we're talking about various weapons fighters, who's gone a few rounds in Ninja Masters? Ninja Masters is probably tied with SS2 as being my favorite weapons fighter. Good shit all around.

Ninja Masters is hardly worth mentioning, canned combos out the ass and some easy infinites.

In Samsho 2 you have a good mixture of situational combos and well outright murderous games with well timed fierceslashes, too bad we never got around to posting up about the blinking red bar effect to hit reels in Samsho 2 on my old site, but although Samsho 2 isn't completely 100% combo free you generally have to be pretty toasted (almost dead)or raged to do them. Or eat a fierceslash hehe.

I'll probably resurrect FS soon, this talk is getting me back in the mood for some samsho ;) All samsho site this time around though, I have no interest in most other SNK games.
