View Full Version : Seattle's 3S Chun-Li Glitch video

Earlier I'd said I'd try to get a video of this, and thanks to Preppy I did, although it's shitty quality because holding a cam and using the stick at the same time sucks.
Anyways, the vid shows the glitch twice. Player 1 Chun-Li does SAII, and Player 2 takes the normal damage.
Here's the glitch, for those that haven't heard of it. If Chun-Li does SAII, and you were to block or parry everything but the final hit, you take full SAII damage, maybe even a little more.

Thanks to Xenozip for the hosting.
Edit: It's not like this on the PS2 or DC versions. I hear our machine is a beta. Other people have mentioned that Q's taunt on our machine does not giving him a defensive bonus.

Very cool. Q better not mess up on the parry or it might hurt a whole lot more.

I figured that just happened because the damage on each hit of the super gradually increased to counter the damage scaling. If it doesn't work on the console versions, I guess not.
makmak!!!

We have that version of the machine in the local arcades here and it's dangerous if you messed up with the parry :lame:

I think it does more damage than the normal SA2 is because she also still takes the chip damage. So full SA2 damage + chipping = ghey.

Very interesting, never knew about it.
Lol, that finger, too funny.
what are you saying o_O ?
i think he means it's not a simple "hey, look at that" finger.
it's a "OMGWTF DID YOU SEE THAT SHIT?!?! I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE THAT BULLSHIT!" finger.
and i would have to agree.

No, the vid shows it happening twice, the 2nd time is in the 2nd round. I'd filmed it twice to try and get a better view of the life bars. Sadly then I had to move the camera to let the guy get to the other side of the cabinet. And it's not my finger.

That's exactly what it is.

That's fucked up. First the Yang SA and now this. Thank god for console.
This is not a glitch. This is called 'damage scaling.' It is part of the game engine, and you can reproduce this with other characters.
From gamefaqs:
http://faqs.ign.com/articles/401/401614p1.html
However, this game does go by the concept of "Damage Scaling"
- meaning the longer the combo is (the more hits you are able to put into it),
the less damage each hit will do until you are doing 1 Damage per each attack.
Basically, that last hit is supposed to do a massive amount of damage, but doesn't do that much damage in the combo because of damage scaling. If you block the entire combo, and only allow the last hit to connect, it isn't damage scaled.

I'm aware of what damage scaling is. Try it at your arcade, since I don't believe it's in all the versions, or on the console versions. Normally, taking the damage of the entire super in one hit doesn't happen.
On the console versions, the entire SAII super performed against Chun-Li does 56 damage, or 30 if you only block everything but that last hit. The vid shows the player that blocked taking the chip damage, plus the damage of the entire super.

In Version 1 arcade machines, the last kick of Chun's super does more damage.
In version 1.1 arcade machines, and later consoles, the last kick of chun's super does less damage. Thanks for the vid, this is not new information.

My mistake then, no one I've spoke to has seen this anywhere else. Any idea if Q gets a defense increase taunting on Version 1 machines?

The only things that I can think of off the top of my head are, guard break was changed, taking away Urien, Yang, Oro, and Ibuki's unblockables. Other character's got their super's toned down. I believe that Urien's SAI does less damage and the palm during Genei Jin does less damage.
It has been a few years since I've gone through the differences, but I'm pretty sure that Rockefeller would know the Q differences between versions.

Hell, you can do it in other games; most notably in dojin fighters, since they tend to have juggle-happy engines balanced out by extreme damage scaling.

If you miss that parry, you deserve to take that much damage anyway.

X-man vs Street Fighter has a related glitch.
I remember in a middle of a match (while using Storm), I did QCB+PP (Hail Storm) and my friend air blocked the whole special... expected he didn't block the VERY last little piece of ice and took 60% damage (he was using Ken by the way).
What was strange was, only his green bar went down and his red bar still remained in place. In other words, he was at a chip of life, but he was able to regain at least 60% of his health back.

LoL.. that hail storm thing is funny. sometimes if you mash that shit enough people will let go of block when it looks like the super is over and they'll be out of block stun but then a few pieces come down and hit them then the damage is insane.

Is the beta version the one where some voices are missing?
Instead of yelling "hadoken" or "shoryuken", Ken and Ryu yell "HAAA!"

The only example I am aware of is the 11000+ damage Walachia's happy face super does in the original Melty Blood if it did not combo. This is not in Re-ACT, though in Re-ACT there is a similar glitch with Ciel's Last Arc.
Aside from that, I'm not sure what you're referring to. EFZ doesn't have any such glitch (Kano's choke OD doesn't count because it's not doable in an actual match) and while I'm not too well-versed on QoH I doubt it would either. IaMP also has no such glitch that we've found.

I played that one before. I was funny to me, cuz when I heard the voices, I thought, "wtf? normal karate sounds?"
