So now that the PSP has been out for a while (atleast in Japan), has anyone tried out the game, especially the d-pad/analog stick (does PSP have an analog stick)? I know there was another thread about the PSP and fighting games in general but I was wondering what everyone's impressions are now.
Gamespot seemed to like it: http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/darkstalkers3/review.html
Sounds like he was almost content with using the easy setting? (cant exactly tell)
The guy on IGN really seemed to dislike the button layout:
http://psp.ign.com/articles/596/596257p1.html
Anyway, in general I dont trust either of these site's fighting game reviews...but I guess its something.

It would be retarded to play any Capcom/2d styled fighters on the PSP, the dpad is horrid.

yeah the d-pad isn't too nice but on "easy" it's not too bad. hopefully future fighters, like Bleach, will let you use the anologue

analog stick is much worser to use than the D-pad. the analog stick for the PSP doesnt fully move around like the PS2 controller analog. but if anyone can get used to the PSP analog stick for fighting games, mad props to them.
i dont know for sure if the PSP DarkStalker is from the Dreamcast, since i only play the PS1 version. but i heard the loading time for DS was pretty lame. the PSP had about 32 megs of memory to use and it actually needs to load a 1-on-1 fighting game.:lame: if this was MVC2 here, understandable. i am interested in the wireless battle though. wonder if you will lag and all. other than that, i cant wait to get my hands on one of those PSP coming this march 24:wow:

thats why id like psp over ds, because i want fighters. its just disappointing about the whole dpad issue.
i think i asked this in another thread, im not sure but would 3s or mvc2 be playable on psp? would the hardware be able to handle it?

Actually, the DS has tons of third party support. Square Enix announced six exclusive RPGs for the DS, and they're working with Nintendo to get it online.
Konami's also developing an exclusive Castlevania for DS, which is looking pretty sweet.
Both handhelds have great third party support, but DS is definitely the one to get if you're into RPGs.
You guys are bitching because there isn't enough fighters? OMG it's a freaking handheld, are you gonna look around the mall or something for comp?
I think NintendoDS is gonna have a lot of 3rd party just because it's nintendo handheld, and it already has a big head start, so the companies know how well nintendo's handhelds do. PSP will get them just because it's sony, unless it starts to fail.
We will see though.

Dude...that's quite possibly the most ignorant comment I've ever heard outta you. Usually (when you're not bashing Capcom, anyway) you're good on not posting BS.
The fighting game comment stands as of now, but no decent third party support...? They have Square-Enix. Online. FOR FREE. They have Namco, making Baten Kaitos AND Xenosaga. They have the new Castlevania (which will own all, mark my words). Sega's making PSO, and rumors about a Soul Calibur were abound. Capcom's making Viewtiful Joe, Koei's making Dynasty Warriors, Bandai with the Naruto games and Jump Super Stars (granted its SSBM style, but a fighter nonetheless), and those are only a couple of them. Not to hijack the thread, but it had to be said.
Getting back to the topic, that's pretty weak that PSP pad is garbage...PS2 is one of the most badass controllers. So what the hell happened? Tried to make it too sleek and compact, or what?

Wait for Capcom's Vampire collection on the PS2. The PSP version of Vampire Chronicle plays like it's on a handheld. That's no good, by the way. You can't be dextrous with the D-Pad and the buttons if those same fingers are having to grip the system.

this is tho, ds may have started earlier, but its still a losing battle. we already sell psp games at my work and we already have more titles for the psp than we do with the ds and the psp dont come out til next week. ds does have 3rd part support, but psp has much stronger 3rd part support, just because of the name. in the end, the ds will be just like the n64 and gamecube, which is, only worth having for nintendo exclusives(mario, zelda, metroid...), even tho thats fine by me lol. i like both systems, but i think nintendo finally met its match.

yeah in japan, although the ds has sold more units overall, it gets outdone by the psp in weekly sales. but still, competition is a good thing and hopefully both systems will get good games as a result

i dunno, here in uk generally people love sony more than nintendo, especially when it comes to ps2 vs gamecube. dunno about the rest of europe though. i think the psp will do well as long as sony ship more than a dozen like they did with the ps2

That's impossible. Both handhelds have done well enough, that if one of them does take the lead, it wouldn't be considered an 'own'.

Looking at the Japan sells even though the PSP sells more units, the DS games actually sell better. The most successful titles on the PSP are Tales of Eternia (120,000) and Hot Shots Golf (350,000+). The most successful titles on the DS are Wario Ware Touch (660,000+) and Super Mario DS (650,000). Drone is right neither system really own's the other yet.
Given time maybe there will be a clear winner but right now it is even more difficult than calling an Presidental election. I would wait to see how the PSP preforms once Sony drops the Bundle pack deal before anything else.
Edit: Getting back to the original topic I have heard DarkStalkers on the PSP is good. Although it is kind of a stupid buy now that you hear about the Compliation release Capcom is making, unless you really are looking for a fighting game on the go.

From what I've heard, the PS2 collection -won't- be like Chronicle or SF Anniversary... Instead of being one game that combines everything in the series, it will actually have each of the original games separately (Vampire/Darkstalkers, Vampire Hunter/Night Warriors, Vampire Savior, Vampire Hunter 2, and Vampire Savior 2). While you lose the interactive factor (such as having VH Felicia fight VS2 Jedah, or whatever), you get far more accuracy to the original games (hopefully).

I have no problems with the D-Pad on the PSP. No sticking or responsiveness problems. It's just like it is on the Playstation controller. The issue is trying to use it effectively. Portables are always designed with fitting in pocket first and foremost while ergonomics take a back seat, which is a bad move in my opinion. But if you think you can hold the PSP and use the D-Pad effectively go for it.

There no damm reason for psp or ds. THEY BOTH SUCK COCK.

i wouldnt even consider you an average gamer at all from the looks of your post. if your thinking about going into the video game industry, dont even bother and go to another career.
The PSP and DS are both revolutionary hand held portable systems to come out to date. PSP could be by far more advance than DS considering its specs and features. their are people out there who likes portable systems and these 2 systems are the answer to their hunger. when your out at a store or somewhere boring, then the portables will come in handy. PSP and DS both have wire-fi capabilities which is one of the coolest feature that take things to another level. being able to play movies, mp3s, and load files onto the PSP is good enough for me already.
but you cannabis, dont seem to care about these portable systems, but you should also keep in mind how much of an impact DS and PSP can do to the gaming industry even with a high price tag. if you think their are no major reasons for needing portable systems, then you my friend need to do some more homework on these babies here.

I have one question about this game:
DID THEY UPDATE MORRIGAN'S SPRITE?
Wellman

The answer to both post above is NO. No official word on GBA2 and Morrigan sprite is the ten year old looking one but it matches the other sprites at least.
I like how nintendo is actually already starting an online service plan unlike the decision that sealed their fate with the gamecube. I also liked how they already said their "revolution" console is gonna feature the same thing, so their online plan looks good already.
However, it seems that sony isn't doing too bad either, but only the future can really tell what will happen. I have no doubt in my mind that sony will try to strike a deal with gamespy as well, or feature something similar.
I like both companies, but there's a little i hate of each company as well. Sony products have shitty quality, compared to other companies, even with so much power. EX: PS2
Nintendo just makes some stupid ass business decisions sometimes, but their 1st party game is top tier.
So like i said, only time can tell, although i do favor nintendo more, just because i've liked them from the start.

Do any of you people use a pad on the PS2? The D-Pad's the same. The only thing that's different is the machine.
Now it's time for the "Of course you were not going to be able to buy the PSP as soon as it came out Dumb Ass" post.
Well, I picked up the game today. Doesn't look like I'll be able to pick up a PSP this week. I've been instructed at my local store who said they will not be getting any anytime soon (last week they told me they would get a few but they got zero)if I want a copy to stand outside 550 Madison Ave in New York City and wait on a long line on this day where it's raining and snowing until they start selling PSPs at midnight to the first 500 on line. So um, no.
I tried to pre-order 2 months ago, when I went to pre-order a PSP they told me that I would not recieve it in the first shipment but the third or fourth. Basically when everybody else has it.
Sorry, needed to rant. The box for Darkstalkers PSP is pretty....
I played this game on a PSP today, I didn't have any problems pulling off fireballs personally.
Then again, my motor skills are like that of a superbeing.

I hate you. Not really just jealous I guess.
I swung by 550 Madison Ave. out of shear curiosity around 8:00 PM to see who was outside waiting for a PSP. Out of the 500 systems they had available there were only 200 people lined up outside and them Sony bastards didn't even let them wait indoors. It was freezing, windy, raining, snowing, and hailing almost simoultaneously, one of the worst weather days NY has seen in a long time. Of course I didn't get on line because I enjoy living without an a hundred degree fever. If any of them got a PSP that night they deserve it. Still, chances are they didn't even have 500 and some of those people left empty handed as these things usually go.

thats not true dont make empty statements. square enix has no plans of using thier playonline or any online service for nintendo.
From IGN, an snip of an interview with Miyamoto concerning their partnership w/Square Enix:
Returning to the topic of Square Enix, Miyamoto moved on to the internet side of gaming, asking,"Square Enix brings up thoughts of the internet. We're thinking of doing something where the DS connects to the internet, but what do you have planned?". To this, Kawazu responded with, "Moving the stuff that we currently have running onto the DS would be difficult from a hardware standpoint, but if we were to try our mobile contents on the DS, we feel the network threshold would drop." Miyamoto managed the last word, offering, "Preparing a wireless LAN network can be difficult, but if you just have that, all you have to do is turn on the power and you can instantly play the game."
Sounds like they got plans to me. The Magic Box also reported a similar story regarding SE and Nintendo going online w/DS. If I can find it too, I'll post it. Moral of the story being:
