Anybody remember Enternal Champions for the genesis? I do and I still have it / play it. It a pretty good 2D fighter that uses the same layout as SF. They made one on sega cd and another one for saturn i think.

I have the Genesis and Sega CD versions, sadly the Saturn version was scrapped or just never made it out before the Saturn died.

I have it for the Genesis. I could barely ever make it past the 1st round, the computer was extremely difficult.
I like the storyline premise, very unique. The Sega CD version was leagues better I hear.

Oh man I have this on the sega cd. I loved the boss fights. It was something different back in the days and pretty difficult. I still remember getting pissed off sometimes whenever I lose on the last form. The game is still around my house somewhere. I like playing Midnight or that detective guy. I remember I'd play it for long periods of time to figure out those stage deaths lol good times.

I have the Mega Drive version which I've loved for well over 10 years now. The last boss, Eternal Champion, still manages to give me one heck of a headache. I have the Mega-CD version for collecting purposes but don't have a Mega-CD yet...

AWESOME TOPIC     I totally forgot about this game, I remember working my butt off to get to the last stage then losing and having to start all over again :xeye:, really pissed me off, well it was that way on Genesis. Does anyone remember the helicoptor stage death where it basically flies by and shoots you? Sammy should obtain the license for that game and make it, with the same difficulty from long ago. GOOD STUFF :woot:

You mean Midknight's stage kill at the farm where the helicopter zooms into view and fires a missile at the defeated character?

Yeah that's the one, I loved that stage kill, mainly because it was the only one I could do on a consistant basis.

Yeah that was without a doubt the easiest one to pull off, though Slash'es, Blade's and Xavier's were easy too. The one I liked the most was harder to pull off and I could never do it. In Chicago based on Larcen's death some criminals come by in a black car and well... You are victim to a number of bullets lol.

Yeah, my friends and I basically spent our entire time playing this game trying to do the death scenes (I think they were called Overkills?). We got pretty good at them.

the sega cd version is so fucking good.
some people never knew there were more kinds of ways to kill people than the stage kills. i don't even think i ever figured out all the vendettas, the ones that were like command fatalities. the cinekills were awesome once i figured out a cheat to get them really easily with the one black girl fighter.
i still have it but no sega cd anymore...

They have sega cd emulators.
I think there was a game called Xperts that killed any chance of another eternal champions game. I played the game for like an hour and returned it. It was the worse game ever made IMO. It had the ninja chic from the eternal champions game. It was a beat'em up.

Shadow is top tier in this shit. Her shadow mode is way too cheap. But anyways my fav. characters were larcen, and xavier. Hopefully sega will do a remake of this game.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has enjoyed this game for years! Seriously sega or sammy should remake it but keep it 2D with the 6 button SF layout. I know I would buy a copy to replace the enternal champions I still play on genesis. EC is one of my all time favorite games! Me and my brother used to kick many ass on this game. My favorite overkill is the driveby on Larcens stage, CLASSIC! Also EC is has some of the most unique characters of any fighting game and they didnt rip off SF or MK like almost every other fighting game of that time did! Major props to sega for a classic.

Trident's stage has the dopest overkill. One day me, my bro and my dad (yes, my dad used to play fighting games) were in my room playing eternal champions. I had xavier my dad had trident. after i beat him, i see the lifebars fly off the screen and i'm like "damn." and head to reset the game becuase i thought it froze, but lo and behold a vine springs out of the water, then 2 more. We all sat there with the look of :wtf: . Then trident's body is pulled under the water, and a violent thrashing ensues not so long after. Next thing you know, blood slowly trickles to the top. The astonishment on our faces after seeing that was priceless. from that night on i played EVERY day to find all of the overkills (keep in mind, before then i had no idea there were overkills in the game).

Larcen's was pretty bitchin' too. Where that bitch breaks out the theater window and blows your head to pieces. Xiavier had a badass one too, not only burning at the stake, but getting shot by lighting and being instantly fucked up. And who could forget Jetta's, with the clown car from the sky.
That game was pretty damn graphic for a 2D game with cartoon sprites.

Oh yeah with the lighting. Damm now that I think about it, EC is the only good sega 2D fighter and the best fighting game ever made for genesis or sega cd for that matter.

Guys I tell you, the EC is easy!! The only tough forms are the Tiger for and the Dragonf orm. For this however, it is very easy. He falls prey to alot of mixups and throws, pokes etc. Everytime he jumps, let him cross over, and then throw him, I can get perfects on the EC. Same in EC-COTDS, same situation here, he falls prey to a lot of mixups and setups that are basic at best.

One of my favorite battles was the in EC2 where the Eternal Champion battles tyhe Dark Champion and you are the Eternal Champion if you beat the game on Champion mode. Thatw as classic, great idea Sega, I am sure many wanted to play as that particular battle. Only thing is you get a different form of the Eternal Champion, only being able to morphe between his forms, not actually reincarnating yourself everytime you die.
Larcen = Tight.
I never got to play the Sega CD version. My biggest problem was with the special move system...you lost meter by doing special moves, and if you got taunted you lost meter, too. That was weak. The taunts were good, though. But still, weak. They should have edited the special moves so they wouldn't be completely broken if you could do them endlessly (ie. Shadow's invinciblity move, as it is, has no recovery time IIRC, Xavier's infinitte place switches, etc). OR, give you enough meter to do a ton of specials, so they don't run out every 8 seconds.
I liked Jetta's overkill, the one where the ground swallowed you up. Slash's by far, had to be the easiest, but was meh. And I remember one time I did Larcen's overkill, and the guy got shot like, extra times. It was weird. Ah, and Shadow's! IIRC your eyeball popped out after you got electrocuted. And in Xavier's stage where your jaw would fall open...

I happen to have Midnight's bio with me:
Full Name: Mitchell Midleton Knight
Occupation: Bio-Chemist
Time Period: 1967
Fighting Style: Jeet Kune Do
The rest is too long to type up... the taunts were funny! Blade pointing at you and saying "loser" repeatedly hahaha that'd get someone heated.

I know most of the ending storys. Although the sega CD version is a upgraded version, the original Enternal Champions on Genesis is the best. One of my favorite all time games.

I only ever managed to beat it with R.A.X. I sucked at the game with the other characters, I never really experimented enough back in the days when I played Eternal Champions a lot. Now too many years have gone by since I played and I can't beat Eternal Champion anymore.
So which fighters used to give your character problems? I used to have a hard time with Jetta in particular due to her hyper speed when she did that charge move. Hard to keep a track of that one imo. Eternal Champion's Tiger form also gives me a lot of trouble, it gives him the insane speed of Jetta.

Midknights ending is that he returns back, sidesteps the attacker, tries to drain his health, but realizes death is not the answer. he lets him live, goes on as a scientist, and since he is immortal his body is used for cures to new diseases. Guys remember in EC2 the chickedn Crispy? Funny I know? Secret character. I think Chin Wo sucked, I was expecting some bruce lee guy and I got some crappy character. Riptide is cool and Ramses got some cool moves, and some of the Cinekills by the Dark Champion are cool. Parodies of how the characters actually died in the game. (Slash gets turned to stone)
