You should also add "Not going to arcades because there aren't any decent ones in the entire state" to the list. Also, don't forget "Getting ripped up in Mary-Kate and Ashley, Sweet 16: Licensed to Drive!"

EDIT: General info about MN gatherings should be on the front page, so here it is:

We have weekly gatherings to play games (mostly 2d fighting games: SF3:3S, GGXX#R, CvS2, SFAC:AE & others) almost every Saturday at the home of bMike (DigitalGypsy) from early afternoon until 11:00pm (unless Mike is busy that week).

Here is info on how to get to Mike's place and how to contact him:

5900 Zenith Ave N
Brooklyn Center, MN 55429
ph. 763-561-0470

MapQuest map of Mike's place (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=5900+Zenith+Ave+North&city=brooklyn+center&state=mn&zipcode=)

Directions:
(from 694/94)
take 694/94 to Brooklyn Blvd south
go about 1 mile to 59th Ave and turn left (east)
go 3 blocks to Zenith Ave (2nd stop sign)
Mike's house is on the northeast corner of the intersection

(from Hwy 100)
take Hwy 100 north to Brooklyn Blvd north (keep right on the exit ramp)
go about 1/2 mile to 59th Ave and turn right (east)
go 3 blocks to Zenith Ave (2nd stop sign)
Mike's house is on the northeast corner of the intersection

EDIT 2: We used to sometimes play at Sava Media which was a video game shop in Arden Hills. R.I.P. Sava.

Hey Dan, you free on Saturday after 12ish? I'll be heading over to Bmikes at that time, (or whenever I wake up) if you wanted to bring T5 so we could check it out that would be cool. Maybe bring one or two of the 3D people if you can?

Maybe if Wes shows up, you can be witness to the "Let's see how high the win counter goes" which is Wes in AE.

Then if there's also interest, we could get some inter-dimensional play going. IE, 2d vs 3d people in 3d games, and vice versa. Just a thought.
sorry rob, i would have come too

:) i was in florida for the T5 nationals last weekend though

so whats the next plan?
who likes ..

GETTING PUNCHT AGAINST THE WALL IN T5?
sorry...had to make my own...ill go back to my corner i swear

Dan, How did the finals go?

Is Raven good?

If so what's some good stuff to work on?

Yes I have T5 now. It looks pretty.

And yes this is Bmike.

BIG JK

finals were heated
slips and eddy versus insanelee and nina
it went back and forth
it went to the final match final round i believe

raven is super juicy
but to warn you he is a medium risk medium reward character
if you get blocked most rewarding stuff is decently punishable
(ws+1 is -13, u/f+4,4 is -15 afaik, qcf+3+4 is -a million, d/f+44 is -14, d/b+4 is -12)

raven is all about getting people to a wall and KILLING THEM
basically if you think you can knock them into a wall cut your juggle short and do f+3+4,4,2
if for example you did ws+1, ff+3, 1, ff+3, 1(wall!), f+3+4,4,2
they should be almost dead

he is all about crouch dash mixups
especially qcf+3+4 because its a rewarding low that is completely unseeable
qcf+3+4, d/b+4, u/f+3 is a popular combo-string to do because if they tech roll out of it then the u/f+3 knocks them down again and he gets more free hits, you can get out of it by quick standing but that is even difficult sometimes..and of course puts the mixups in ravens favor if you try to do that

also raven has this throw hcb,f+1+2 ...does like half life and you can buffer it into anything, you can stand full screen and do hcb, then run in and hit b,f+1+2 and it will still come out

raven requires alot of movement(b,b~d/b,b,b~d/b is the universal backdash but raven also has qcf~u,qcf~u and/or b+3+4,b+3+4) to be totally sexy though

so work on wall filth and movement

i know who you are medicine horse :)

Bmike, if ya wanna correct my spelling, correct your pronounciation.

Genei-Jin = Gay-naee Jin

That being said, I corrected it in that post >.>

Also, you must get Wes to come more, or post/read here, having him around is always a ton of fun. Not to say that you guys aren't, but. . . you aren't. *innocent whistle*

Your Eddie is gettin rough too, freakin random drills own me. Kinda scarey if you decided to pick up other characters too, cause you seem to be able to make them effective after like a day of practice. Meanwhile, I just pick one hit wonders. Why haven't I played Chun yet? Oh, yeah, because that puts me, and everyone watching to sleep.

Dan

I think the invitation to Bmike's is fairly open, just bring what you wanna play and we'll give it a shot. Hell, I played DoA and Bloody Roar when someone brought it, all though we will never speak of it again.

Maobei

Demand VF next time, don't suggest it. I'll play for a while, cause I get sickeningly bored of playing the same two things constantly, and I'm not even that good at either.

Stefan

I'm going to write Sammy a mail right now and tell them Rao does not do enough damage, thanks.

Saturday at noon to about 11pm is when we play.

The pictures of Ling disturb me. . .

Honestly, if Jin isn't the type of character people roll their eyes at in T5, I'd probably play him. That or Paul, but, gotta see how it plays.

Shogun17
04-06-2005, 06:39 AM
Bmike, if ya wanna correct my spelling, correct your pronounciation.

Genei-Jin = Gay-naee Jin
I didn't think he was pronouncing it incorrectly, at least I don't remember him doing so. The pronunciation that you have spelled out is a bit hard to follow, and a bit of an Americanized simplification. Genei is pronounced very similarly to the famous Aussie phrase G'Day. The first syllable is fairly short. 'Gay' is pretty much the right vowel sound, but is sort of an elongated and Americanized way of saying it.

Edit: It took me a minute to realize that you might not be refering to the Japanese pronunciation, but rather to the regional People-who-have-to-play-against-bMike's-Yun dialect, in which case, your pronunciation is spot on.

BIG JK
04-06-2005, 06:53 AM
:( well my world is upside down, i thought i knew your character taste :( sorry

jin is a skill character now
he is a stance based character
but you also have DevilJin to choose from too now

paul is the same as he always was with 1-2 new tricks and his deathfist can do half life on counterhit :P

Goteku
04-06-2005, 11:07 AM
yeah. it's definitely gaynei-jin, i don't care to call it by its real pronounciation. when it's being used by big Mike.. it's gonna be gaynei-jin :p

right. so next time, i'll demand some wolf action. in the meantime, Hugo and Zangief have the real "spd-spd-hah" supers, not Elena :p

DigitalGypsy
04-06-2005, 11:11 AM
so it's pronounced GAY NAY JIN? or GAY NIE JIN? well I'll go by what the announcer calls it @ acho.

Evendro
04-06-2005, 11:39 AM
Ge Ne I Ji N

Ge = Gay
Ne = Nay/Nae (If you think of it as Nay, end the sound quickly so it's 'shorter'
I = After "Ne", extends the syllable, so literally it's "Nee", but in English that would be like "Naee" Have you heard of the girls name "Keiko"? take the first part of that, sounds kinda like "Kay", then just change the K to N to get the sound of "Nee"

Announcers will undoubtedly say it really fast, so it'll probably sound like. . . Gaynae (seemingly one syllable), when it's actually 3 separate syllables, but I wouldn't expect any native Japanese speaker to clearly annunciate every little syllable to perfection, there's slang involved, just like 'ere.

Ji + N = We all know

hm. and here i had thought Yun said something more along the lines of "ge~n ei ji~n" like the 'n' sound goes with "ge" versus going with "ei"

MOWfan:
i'll play a crappy tizoc because snk's grapple system sucks in the range department :p
or i'll play crappy Dong Hwan because he looks stupid. or i can conform to everybody else an just use a power-Terry :p
can't ever go wrong with s.C>feint>s.C>feint>d.C>feint>d.C>buster wolf :p

but whomever you are, MOWfan, show up at big Mike's, and we'll see fresh faces. then we can get whatever into a rotation. but lately, we're primarily street fighter 3: 3rd strike and ggxx #reload. random bits of cvs2 mixed in and occasionally, we have some VF4 or marvel2.

MOWfan
04-06-2005, 12:12 PM
I have not played 3rd strike so i cant compare, Ive been reluctant to try it, because ive heard its not as responsive as MOW. Ohh.. and My friends and I have a loving mutual relationship with MOW and we are deathly afraid of change.

Please enlighten me and my group with conflicting spec of 3rd strike vs MOW!

We play offline only.

Goteku
04-06-2005, 01:23 PM
no way. 3S isn't quite as sluggish as MOW. the only exception to that rule is Hugo vs Tizoc. i think Tizoc has better mobility and lots of his crap is much faster-seeming. but his ticks and strats kinda blow, so 3S Hugo wins because of options vs mobility.
i think the response problem was all in the DC version of 3S. these die-hard arcade 3S players all tell me that the ps2 version is uber uber than the DC, but whatever.. i can't really tell too much except for when the stupid ps2 version messes up my old DC combo timing ^_^
so, no. it's not sluggish no mores. no response lag. parrying is much more impulsive than JD... since JD you can more or less buffer in like an ENTIRE second prior to the hit, and parrying grants about 10 frames (which is like.. 1/6 of a second)... unless you're playing cvs2, in which case the parries give you like.. 1/9384938 of a second to react :p
but give it a shot. just don't play Ken or Chunli and you won't think 3S is crap :p

Evendro
04-06-2005, 03:42 PM
Maobei

If it's Ge N E I instead of Ge Ne I, then I think that would be pronounced :

"Gay-ng-Ae" or
"Gay-n-Ae"

Either way you slice it, it starts with Gay. Bmike should take note of this.

MOWfan
Out of curiousity, are you in Minnesota?

Shogun17
04-06-2005, 03:59 PM
If you want to use the Japanese pronunciation, then it's like I said in my original post. The first syllable 'Ge' has a similar vowel sound to the english word Gay (e.g. Yun is so gay), however, the syllable is shorter in length and actually sounds more like the 'geh' sound that's used when the Aussies say G'day. It's not pronounced the same way that you would describe Richard Simmons making a horse sound. That would be an American bastardization of the Japanese pronunciation.

Evendro
04-06-2005, 08:05 PM
Further research:

It is in fact "Ge-N-E-I", which means "Phantom, Vision, Illusion"

"Gain-Ae"
"Gay Nay"

Sorry guys, I've got inlaws in town and I won't be able to host the gathering this Saturday.

On a strange note who's available tomorrow (fri)? I could possibly be free all day and I want to play.

Kat--I got your PM yo. I'm a lazy ass but eventually I'll hear your tunes and I'll let you know if I could contribute anything.

Rob--Crazy games indeed between you and I in #r. Some close shit. I'm going to see if I can find some time to work on actual Eddie setups. Freestyle is always a good time. Tick throw only works on you and Stefan. LOL. Maobei is a jumpy bastard.

Maobei--I'm glad you got to battle it out with Wes. Frank seemed impressed with where your at. So don't feel like you haven't excelled with your cc's. It take a lot of ass beatings to deal them out. Getting to Wes's 3rd char is always an accomplishment.

Stefan--Nice playing you for like 3 games on sat as always.

As a general note. We could get Wes here more often but here's the thing. Wes will NOT play anything besides AE and CVS2 if forced. He has ZERO tolerance for anything else. So unless you guys want to buck up and start playing AE it will probably hard to convince Wes to show up for CVS2 only. Which some of us don't even play.

MikeZ--much luv yo. I'll try and get a call in this weekend so we can catch up. Babies own me for free. P'd.

MOTW guy--we can definately tear it up in MOTW here at our gathering. Maobei and I show up to a hardcore NEO gathering every year and we hold our own with the top guy there. Granted this is with practicing 1 day before so if got some regular comp/practice in we could have some sick matches. Do you play on DC or NEO? I hear it's coming out for PS2 in japan.

Frank--thanks for stopping by and showing the love. I'm stealing jump over ShinSho! Too dope!

TJ--missed you again bro. Feel free to stop by and say HI. Weekdays after 6 Weekends whenever.

Alright, I've kept this in my head all week. I'm out of shit to say. :wow:

They put details on why Las Vegas limits your ability to go to Evo on the front page? Wow!

Anyway, I think Las Vegas should be pretty fun, even if we don't get to crash Mike's pad again. Hotel rooms are cheap there and so are plane tickets. Why does it being in Las Vegas make it harder for you to go Rob? Anyone else from MN planning on going? I'd like to, but it'd suck to go by my lonesome.

I've got some new scrubby Ryu strats. It's actually kinda satisfying playing him after Ibuki and Yang, however I'm sure my mindset will change immediately after I get like, parried left and right for free.

It's just kinda neat having good pokes, good links, good priority, good combos, good air moves, good projectiles --- Maybe not like, the best of any of these, but fairly well rounded. Yang, to me, felt a lot like. . . . well, I'm sure I was playing him wrong, but he didn't have much depth. It was either fierce, overhead kick, or low kick in to ex slashes. Ibuki had too much of a learning curve to be a first character.

Anyway, I wanna try him out against non-CPU comp, since the only thing I'm really getting used to now is random parrying, all though it does help a little bit with random parry punishing, something I've never been good at. (Parry someone > Jab, has turned in to Parry someone > 30% (if lucky))

Evendro
04-12-2005, 11:37 AM
So, I've been stuck here at school, and was just reading a bit on the Evo thread. At first, I was kinda having mixed feelings about the thing, but now I'm really pumped. There's talk (no confirmations or promises) of more team tourneys, and the elimination of TTT. We can all agree that T4 and TTT were like, the most boring things ever. It would be great if they just pulled these all and made more room for additional team tourneys.

Everyone loved the team MVC2 tourney, or rather, everyone loved Mike, the rest of the MSP / AHVB whores was like, yawn. On that note, Mike, if you've read any of the posts there, some people are suggesting a low-tier tourney, where a vote is held on which chars should be banned and which are playable. . . .That completely ruins the effect of a Jugger/Tron/Doom annihilating two thirds of a team in practically one combo.

I'm also curious if they're going to seed again this year. . . My first SC2 game was with the projected "Favorite" to win the entire thing. I got a round on him, but I was practically asleep that entire day. The dude running VF4 pissed me off, but we all know why. . . I would have been too tired to execute anything, really.

So, I'm pretty much only looking at #R for games that I would play. Maybe I'll pay more attention this time around and not blow a god damned qualifying match because I wanted to kill with a super :-( Oh well, that's done with, chances are even if I did win that round, I would have been slutted out by a Faust immediately after. 3S, we'll see. If I'm any better when the time of Evo comes around, I'll think about it. . . but looking back on last year, I really wasn't at the level I should have been to start in a tourney, and I really wasted $10, plain and simple.

----

What was that tourney nearby that had XX? I'd be down for that, 50% off a throw is fun. If only my Dizzy threw people more :-( I would definately do the throw>spike>frc>jump>take left hand off stick>raise hand behind head>use right hand to execute: k>p>k>p>return left hand to JC>remove left hand again>k>p>k>p>h>bubble>k>land>jump>repeat

Nice job Stefan, maybe even make it your sig? Unless you prominantly post in other threads, that may be a tad sensitive, but up to you. We could just say like "To get places, click here", etc.

Maybe add phone numbers to it?

What games do you usually play? Also, where are you located? If you're on someone's way to Mike's house, we could probably work something out.

Hey Leon, great to see new faces. . . . Now, have any friends? :-p

Pretty much everyone in our group plays 3S, I pretend I play it, but am terrible at it still.

I think my strongest suit is probably Guilty Gear at the moment.

I also play VF4, SC2, but haven't tried T5 yet. . . I hear it's still got all the aspects of T4 I didn't like, but I wont pass any personal judgments on it until I play.

We got a few CVSers, Painting the Fence and ShoSho are group favorites.

Hope the bus / ride to Bmikes works out, (By the way, Bmike = Big Mike, story will be explained if you show up this weekend :-p ) definately need to breathe life back in to this scene.

--Edit--

By the way, name here is Rob. I'm easy to spot because I'll always be asking to play Guilty Gear.

To everyone who stopped by today: Leon, Dan, RK, Jake --- Was fun playin with you all.

(I'm not forgetting the regulars, just mentioning the new people due to the rarity)

Sorry Kat, by the looks of that post, it was at like 8:30 when you made that, and we were all engulfed in various games, so no one probably checked the thread.

Here go the mentionings.

Dan
Thanks for helping me with some Tekken stuff, Asuka is pretty neat, you were right that I would like her. The reversal is fun, and the lunge throws are great. The combo "throw" is too much fun also. I still have that feeling that I'm missing a bit though, cause I can really really tell when someone is being nice and when someone is actually trying to win. The difference is like, well, I feel almost entirely helpless when other people actually try. It was cool that most of you guys playing T5 tonight kept it easy on me, it helped me learn a few things about movement and such. As far as heading over to your place to play on your usual days, well I'm not sure if I would be able to just yet. Everyone there will beat me in to a pulp, and with so many people wanting to play I'd feel bad asking for extra games, heh. -- Also, RK and Jake post on TZ regularly still, yeah? Let them both know we'd like it if they could post here too, if they wanted to keep going at the 2d stuff as well.

Leon
Great to meet new people. You're pretty brave, I would have been afraid to go visit people who played 2d games by myself, usually everyone brings a friend the first time :-p Anyway, good 3S and GG#R matches. You should get in to GG a bit again, I like it as a break to 3S, and vice versa. I was definately impressed with your play overall, it's very, very rare to get a new person visiting us who actually knows what they're doing :-p

RK
It's been forever since I've seen you. Always fun to get games in with you, I heard that your VF stuff has gotten a lot better, and I want to get beat bad, so next time we gotta do some of that. Anyway, hope you stop by again soon, get your practice in for Evo.

Jake
If you want some 3S comp, Bmike and co can usually offer it pretty easily. It's tough getting in to the game though. I've been trying for such a long time to become "SF savvy", and I still lack a lot. You're probably feeling the same way toward 3S as I feel towards Tekken a lot of the time, some stuff just seems weird, and you're not sure how to react. You seem to be adapting a LOT faster than I did/do though. Once you get the basics down though, I'm positive you'll be able to put up a solid fight against our 'veterans'. There's a lot there, and everyone here is willing to give advice of how to become better, but sometimes it can be a lot and not everything is heard. Hope you keep at it though, and if there are any questions just ask any of us, we can usually help ya out.

good games to everyone i played on sat

rob, my vf skills are highly overated but i will do my best to live up to expectations.. good games in 3s and t5

maobei, rc is broken and should not be used ...ever, esp when i cant duck the stupid hurricane kick ... i try to roll and i get throws for mk crossups and more throws.. good stuff

big mike, dive kick should require meter.. that is all .......
.. your yun, urien.. and every other char u used destoyed me, but good games.. i think i learned something... btw what kick do u use to cross me up on the back of the head during wake up, and what is the string u follow up with.. it didnt look like the lplkmp..whatever string .. it was stand jabs and stuff.. or maybe im just seeing things... neways good games hope to play some next week

leon, only played you in a few games in t5 but gg's, its nice to see new faces in MN, we can never have enough ppl playing games.

stephan (i think i spelled it right), we didnt get to play but i saw some of your matches, nice stuff, hope we get to play next week

i was under the impression my girlfriend came over early and that we were leaving around 8
HAHA i didnt realise it was 11, i really did plan on getting more 2d games in but she told me she was tired and wanted to leave, im sorry

TJ- ricky plays nina...he will have a little something just because he plays nina and of course he practices against tyson
lings u/f+4 on hit grants 1,d+2 for free...you should integrate that(and of course on ch...it will start the juggle)

rob- ya i understand you dont necessarily want people to give you matches or anything like that because you want to get better but in my experience if you dont know why you are losing or eating things then its not going to help you
i tried to show you various different things/situations
if you want to play during the week or want to know things like combo's/strategies or anything at all just ask

I'd like to thank EVERYBODY For turning out. We haven't had a gathering like this in AGES.

Dan-Much love for showing up and bring fellow tekken people. I'm open to learning Tekken 5 so next time we get together I need lessons. Hopefully you didn't lose all your T5 data.

RK-Your Ken is getting better. Remember to not be afraid. The only time Ken should be worried with low forwarding for free is fighting chun with meter and Oro's s.HK. And FYI--NEVER do the shoulder after the ground chain with Yun UNLESS you need the extra shoulder to get meter. Special canceling causes massive damage scaling.

Jake-Nice to meet you. Glad to see another 3S player. Your more than welcome to ask Yun questions because there's a good chance I can't make it to Evo. Hopefully I can teach enough to you all so we can place in 3S.

Leon-Come over more! We were all surprised at you skill level so definately show up on Saturdays. I'm sure it was a lot to take in at first but feel free to show up and train. I think your Dudley was the strongest by far. Keep him up because he's a beast.

Maobei-Your game was improving alot in CVS2. And don't give up on 3S.

Rob-Your Ryu definately is worth working on. DP's are good. We need to play some more #r. I was looking forward to some eddie matches but it just didn't work out.

Stefan-I played you like 3games but it's always dope.

TJ- Awesome Chun battles as always. You need to show up more too.

Overall I'd like to see this happen next Saturday but the real question is when do you Tekken guys gather?

Kat--Sorry yo, my days of giving rides are over. I don't have the car on Tuesdays plus my baby and me like to chill @ home all day Saturday. Some of the Tekken guys drive by your area (the midway) so they might be willing to pick you up.

p.s. Thanks Dan for heying my supers. Love it. Your GF should walk into strange people's houses more often. :encore:

i could be down today or friday

Evendro
04-20-2005, 11:09 AM
Today I'm pretty busy until after 9, and that may be a bit late. Tomorrow I have to paraphrase an assload of crap for my Composition paper and somehow pull 3 pages out of my ass of a paper I'm already struggling for space with. After Friday morning though, is a possibility. Saturday of course is always reserved for Bmike, because I <3 him.

Dan, you usually host on Friday, yeah? I wouldn't mind another session or two running down the Asuka basics with me, maybe some tricks that'll let me land some of the juggle starters / throw setups. Since I'm currently very poor, I can't go out and get the game myself. And, while I appreciate you helping me learn, I also know that 90% of the stuff I threw at you wouldn't have hit if you were actually playing :-p So, a few mixups and stuff would be cool. I think I got the bare minimum down, like punishing with f 1+2, f 2 -- df 1, 2 / f throw (LOVE THIS, is it viable in actual play?) Or like, juggling with 1+4, 123. When to poke with db 1, etc

Ryu will be showing up on Saturday, he's a good punching bag for all those who want to get started. The first hurdle is beating me, then you can move on to the people who actually know what they're doing :-p

BIG JK
04-20-2005, 01:36 PM
its ok, i understand big mike is lovable and the only one in the mn gaming community with BIG in front of their name
instilling envy on all of us

yea all of what i taught you is viable in real play
d/f+1,2 is a little risky but its ok because you can evolve that string into full mixups anyways because its delayable and ch guaranteed

more asuka basics:
-mix 1,3 with 1,2,4 or 1,2 mixup OR even just use 1,2,3 to change the way h,m,m looks
-d/b+4 is her best tracking move and one of her fastest tech crouches and even a decent low poke you can execute it as d/b+4~D to make her recover crouching for crouching mixups like d/b+4~D,d/f,d,d/f+1+2 or d/b+4~D, ws+3
also if they get antsy about trying to interrupt(even though ws+3 should beat most anything they try) you can also link d/b+4 into more d/b+4's or 1+4
-something soap used to do that was really tricky was he would do juggles that ended in 123 or f+2 and cancel it(123~b or f+2~d/b) and it would leave asuka in PERFECT position to either hound them on the ground or just give you a mixup opportunity in general
-d+2 is a great move to have blocked, do it and backdash or do it and mixup
-b+3 is a great move if you are turtling, just throw it out every so often or as an interrupter because it jumps lows and ducks highs but its range sucks...if it hits just hit 2 on reaction
-if you are gonna hit someone into a wall try to hit them with 3+4 it can hit them 3 times(i know hatman does something way crazy though so i know there is better i just dont know what it is) if hitting them with 3+4 is too hard try f+1+2
-a GREAT juggle if you want to get them to a wall for example is f+2, u/f+3, 1+4, ff, 1+4,2
that will get you to the wall from the middle of the ring on most stages
-f+2 is guaranteed on a low parry if its a kick
-1+2 is easily one of her best moves

DigitalGypsy
04-20-2005, 02:23 PM
Dan, I was wandering about the low parry that everybody has. Is is usable? In my mind it would work like 3S but it probably does not.

BIG JK
04-21-2005, 05:20 AM
low parry is totally usable for every character
its the main reason going low in tekken is like taking a risk
low parries for most characters will lead to half life
for example raven can do low parry, d/f+4, ff+3, 1, ff+3, d/f+44

of course there are unparriable lows and even ones that if low parried leave them in a crazy situation where most standard low parry options will miss(real cool if you wanna be tricky) a good example of this is jack 5's d/b+4 i think raven and asuka may or may not be ok but for example steve cant reach with his standard d/f+22

but in the interest of explaining the balance of the low parry system of course mids are safer and usually the most rewarding so going for the low parry might have you eating some crazy junk and some lows are better to block like laws d/b+4

low parry is executed as d/f and from standing it remains available for 20 frames and from crouch its available for 10

and there is no chun li in this game so its always executed as d/f

i thought 3S ken's kara-dp was d.mk
like you'd do something like cross up mk>strong>fierce>jab dp, land, pause a bit to let opponent fall>towards, down+mk, down-towards+jab
is that incorrect? i've always tried it that way.. but i don't play ken, but i've always done it with d.mk to kara
it's like an RC timing. it's lame. i can't RC dp's very easily yet :p

Just in case anyone cares, I got bored one night and figured out the life totals of everyone in CFE.

Name: Vitality Percentile
-------------------------------
Zangief: ~15500 vital 111.5
Alex: ~15500 vital

Urien: ~15100 vital 108.6
Hauzer: ~15100 vital

M Bison: ~14700 vital 105.8
Ryu: ~14700 vital
Guy: ~14700 vital
Rose: ~14700 vital

Chun Li: ~14300 vital 102.9
Leo: ~14300 vital

Pyron: ~14100 vital 101.4

Karin: ~13900 vital 100
Sakura: ~13900 vital
Yun: ~13900 vital
Hydron: ~13900 vital

Guile: ~13700 vital 98.6

Kenji: ~13500 vital 97.1
Ingrid: ~13500 vital

Anakaris: ~13300 vital 95.7
Demitri: ~13300 vital

Jedah: ~12900 vital 92.8

Felicia: ~12500 vital 89.9

S Akuma: ~6500 vital 46.8
I used 13900 vital as the "average" value (it is the median value) to determine the percentile. I was a bit surprised by guile's lack of vitality. Other than that, this chart is pretty much as expected I guess.

Evendro
04-23-2005, 08:31 AM
I don't play the game, but if Akuma has 46.8% of the average life, does that even make him close to a viable character?

No, not only is he not viable, he's not even legal iirc since he's a hidden character. Pyron is also a hidden character and probably not legal as well.

However, in general, Shin Akuma is quite fast, has a full chain combo (lp->lk->mp->mk->hp->hk), and a double air fireball along with other nice moves. His low vitality keeps him from being seriously playable, but if he had 100% vitality, he'd probably be top-tier or close to it.

his dp>rh>dash CC isn't that hard and does about 7.5k easily, and his guardcrush is the same speed as Kyo's.. and it's like.. 1.25x the speed of fierce shosho, so i'm not that concerned ^_^
the only thing i don't like much about Iori is that he doesn't have an "awesome kick" :p

So I just got into the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) for law school, but I don't know anything about the area. Can anyone help me out here? What's the social life like, as in bars, clubs, hotness of girls, etc, both in the city in general and at the school? Is the weather bearable for a guy who lives in Los Angeles and thinks the San Francisco Bay area is bad? And how's the fighting game scene? Are there any arcades around? Which games are most popular? Is there good competition? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the frigid north. As far as social stuff like club scenes, etc., you're probably asking the wrong crowd. However, I'm sure it's not quite as happening as LA. There are some good places downtown and uptown. It matters whether you're into just down and dirty pick-up places or a trendy hangout, as there are some of each in both places.

For the next few months until about September, the weather should be bearable. However, during the fall and winter, you'd better be ready to be cold. If you can't handle even San Fran, then you'll definately need a warm jacket up here.

The fighting game scene here is ok. There aren't really any good arcades in the area, especially for 2d games, so we usually just get together each Saturday to play at bMike's place (see my post on the front page of this thread for details). We play mostly 3s, some GGX2#R, CvS2 and AE and we've recently started to dabble a bit in some 3d games like T5 and VF4 (although there has always been a decent 3d scene in MN too, the 2d people have started mingling with the 3d people more recently).

We'd love to have new people join us, so please feel free to stop by on Saturdays at Mike's (DigitalGypsy) place (assuming you choose to go to UMN). We'd like to consider ourselves to be pretty good competition. Of course, by LA standards, we'd be pretty average, but we take things pretty seriously. A bunch of us went to EVO last year, and we're planning on going again this year (even though I'm the only one to commit so far ).

Goteku

jeesh Stefan, just don't even mention to the poor guy that we have another U of M'er amongst us. though i can't tell you much about the "social" life, if you will.. i can show you around campus before i graduate :p
err. are you a freshman? if yes, then take freshman comp with Angelo Volpe. if you're not a freshman, take his advanced english comp. He's a really excellent composition associate prof, and he used to do law. then he got bored, but he's still really sharp in those areas. you should go shoot the breeze with him. he's got nice stories ^_^
btw, if you think san francisco is bad, then you'd better be wearing a wooly mammoth around minnesota during any month other than june, july, and sometimes august (those are our only valid months for a potential summer weather... winter, or variations of winter, take up the remainder of the year) :p

Well the fellas have touched on the weather and school. So I'll touch on the chicks and bars. We've got some pretty trendy spots here with some ok clubs. Nothing as cool as L.A. but not bad. The chicks are hot too but they are DEFINATELY area specific. You have to know where to find them. I haven't attended U of M but I've known people who have been on the campus and you could easily on weekends go from party to party. The party seems ot extend out in the streets. So yeah, it's good. Maybe not as cool as other schools but we do alright for Minnesota.

We sucks in 3S so come beat us up.

Yo I got a friend in minnesota I was wondering if any of you guys now him. He's a little kid who uses k-groove alot in cvs2 and for 3rd strike he uses q or yang. He told me he won a tourney over there recently. Some place called mall of america.

So have any of you guys seen him?

UltraDavid:
For transportation in the Twin Cities, you can get by without a car. A bunch of the people that come to Mike's place on a semi-regular basis take the bus. The bus system here is pretty decent. We just got light rail here less than a year ago, but it only goes along one stretch, and it doesn't go near bMike's place.

People here are used to the cold, so yes, we do go outside in winter. When it gets really cold, you just have to make sure that you dress properly and usually you can get by with a minimum of bitching about how your cheeks and ears are going to freeze off :bgrin:.

Rage02fire:
I'm not aware of anyone in MN that fits the description you gave. In addition, there are no 3S or CvS2 machines at Mall of America (or anywhere else in the state of MN for that matter) :lame:, so unless it was a console tourney, I'm confused. However, we're always looking for new people to join us. Have your friend drop us a line here on the boards. Also, how old is your friend, and what's his name?

what are ibuki's problems?

all i know is she is easy as sin to combo with..but not how she looks at all
lp, mp, hp to stuff is pretty fun, especially to that EX qcf+pp

is there anything else she can do after f,d,d/f+p other than flip over their head to throwing knives?

is there anything she can do after the EX version of f,d,d/f+k

i noticed oro has alot of slop factor on his D,u+p
is it possible to do a small dash before letting the move come out..i mean like charge down then any horizontal movement until pow?

more things: alex has the easiest kara throw ever? lk~lp

is ryu's flashy face kick safe on block?

i am assuming that DP and throws arent the only things that can be kara'd?

what is that sick ass 2 or 3 hit combo with akuma you showed me mike/rob...unreplicatable to my foreign eyes thus far...i came up with a few but i think they all suck

i pick abbobbo and do moves and then pause when his eyes start to bug out of his skull
then when i am done doing that i do moves that fall down and buffer the throw into the recovery is this a good trick or can they usually pop you out of it

umm im sure thats plenty for now
thanks alot alot for having my stupid butt over mike

Lemme try to offer what I can.

Ibuki is a fast pressure character, but as a "first" character I'm not sure I would advise it. . . That's what I did. She's really, really frustrating to play with at start, due to her lack of priority (in comparison) and complete lack of health. (She takes the most damage, I believe?)

The flippy move only option is throwing a kunai, or not throwing one.
After the EX Dragon kick, you can do the air chain, jab>towards fierce -- Then followup with other wakeup stuff.

Ryu's EX donkey kick is -12 on block, the RH version of it is actually -10. Either way, still going to get hit on a block of it, unless maybe you're really far away and only the heel hits, I think? Unless the person is Ken, and who plays Ken anyway, a character that can punish moves on hit regularly with a Genei-Jin length bar x 3.

Shogun17

how fast is kens punisher that you referrence?Ken punishes with his super, which hits on the second frame iirc.

We have to talk about Jenna J.I'm surprised that you didn't refer to TJ as "my son" after that statement :bgrin:, or is there another Jenna to discuss?

Also, RK, where's that Alex video that has the combo that won't work? j.HP -> forward+HP works just fine - the problem comes with the fact that the throw will whiff while they are in hit stun. After they get out of hit stun, it's no longer a combo. The forward+HP doesen't leave them in a stunned (and thus grabbable) state like his flash chop. Also, even if it did all connect, it still does less than 100%, so unless Alex did a full taunt it wouldn't kill Ibuki (or even Akuma, for that matter, who takes the most damage [y.w. Rob ])

Mike_Z
05-02-2005, 10:57 AM
Rob - it's QCTx2+K, not 3K. :^P
Dude asking about Ibuki - you don't get to do her Punch chains unless they're standing, which sort of bites. Short->Fwd (->RH or xx special move or command dash) is her best bet at almost all times. Her s.Fwd is sick by itself. Chains after EX DP+K are character-specific, but it'll generally beat anything a short character tries to do anyway.

For 2D games, everyone plays on a stick.

We'll break you of that dirty habit :bgrin:.

Before I got my stick, I was very used to playing on pads. It takes a while to transition over, and you have to take the temporary downgrade in performance until you're used to playing on a stick, but believe me, it's definately worth the effort. Using a stick allows you to be much more precise in your motions and actions (assuming that you have a decent quality stick). In addition, if you ever play in arcades or compete in tournaments, you'll usually be playing on a stick, so it's best to get used to it during casual play.

Evendro
05-03-2005, 10:30 AM
Agreed, however if you -really- want to, you can bring your pad for GG on the Xbox, but the only 3S we play is PS2, so either have an adapter, or you'd have to play on a ps2 pad or stick.

btw. regarding hte sticks. i suck at ggxx, so i still use the pad :p
i can only stick potemkin since he's a grappler and all grapplers need a stick ^_^

so don't feel so bad about using pads, yes? unless you're using an exlaxbox pad. that's just the work of the debil. you ought to be roughed up with a cheese grater dripping with lemon extract then thrown into a vat of freshly-squeezed orange juice mixed with iodized salt.

and yes, more people == good. we all suck really bad at 3S, so any competition is good since we're all out of ideas as to what to do against bad players like big Mike. that stupid bitch just won't get off the stick when we all know his turn should be over like.. 40 matches ago. he really doesn't know when to stop using Yun, even though he loses so badly with him. and lately, he's been scrubbing it out with Dudley, also not relinquishing the stick when his turn's been well over with :p

haha, so what's up with this weekend papa? i'mma done with graduation ceremony this friday at like 10pm, then i'll be going home and whatevers on saturday since i have a test on tuesday (may 10th) and one more on saturday (may 14th) after my graduation. so information me or aim me or something, yes? ^_^

PS: i looked at the Alex vs Ibuki 100%, 0% stun guage combo and it wasn't a simple j.hp>towards+hp>hyperbomb.. if you see the beginning, Ibuki starts a move and takes a counterhit j.hp
i think that CH was enough for the towards+hp to land. but as far as those two hits doing 45%? wtf. i didn't think counterhits allowed for 3x damage increases :p
but either way, it was a CH jumping fierce that started it all, so experiment or soemthing, you people with free time and no school to rape you in the buttocks :p

GG - Johnny, Jam, I-no, Axel

05-03-2005, 10:47 PM
I took a trip up to Maplewood mall tonight and wasn't terribly impressed. The setup is decent, they do have a regular stand-up US MvC2 cabinet and a sit down Japanese-style cabinet with head-to-head 2-screen action. The controls on the 2-player side of the sit-down cabinet worked fine (I didn't try the others). Unfortunately, there was no competition there for MvC2. There was a big group of asian guys around some 4-person racing game, and I saw some people playing T5 and doing DDR, but no 2d comp :annoy:.

Speaking of T5, I picked up a copy of it. I also picked up a copy of VF4:Evo for only $10 too. I played a bit of Paul once I got home. It seems pretty decent, however, there are still some things that are frustrating about the whole 3d genre.

I watched that Alex combo vid. I'm still not convinced that that combo is on the up-and-up. As Maobei mentioned, it starts off with a counter-hit. From what I can tell, counter-hits don't actually increase damage taken in this game. Also, I still can't figure out how the super connects after the -> + HP. In addition, it looks like the damage level was severely increased for that combo as the first 2 hits (which combos quite easily regularly) do almost 50% damage (as Maobei mentioned). Those 3 moves still don't do enough damage to kill Ibuki even if Alex has a full taunt power-up (turn stun = on, then jHP, ->+HP, dizzy, jump over, super). Mike Z, any theories?

stefan- please explain what frustrates you as i can attempt to help you kids as you do for me(thank you)

last night i bought the brady games guide for street fighter, i understand guides are usually useless but it explains a few things and gives me sample combos to tinker with for now..all in all a good investment i think

i am particularily fond of how bufferable akuma's
j.j.->s.f. is
dash...hey where are all those buttons i hear? pop!

and whats this nonsense about being able to play as gill? is it possible in sfae or just sf3? i just wanna mess around with that BS axe kick

one thing that i read about in that book was buffering parries...see thats what i like to get into shit like that
i do this in tekken, so its immediately transitioned
they said a setup for makoto is to do the rush punch then go for the special throw but when you go for it time it so the f part of the motion comes out at a time when you would parry their attack if they tried to attack right away and toss them if they stayed
2 birds with 1 stone shit gets my cock hard

i do that in tekken when i rush down by buffing my iWS-ing moves or using moves that require d/f directionals twice
iws+1 d,D/F,n+1
d/f,d/f+1 really fast
because then the other person doesnt even know you were gunning for their panic attack

ill be ready this weekend

Big Mike: has Nabil and/or Esom came by to get their stick yet? I mean c'mon it's been like 6 or 7 months since!

TJ sup man. I haven't heard from you in a minute. I hoe all is well.

So I guess WI is running more tournaments than usual. I'm tryin to make them play 3S with me. But we do have a select few. All I really play now is Tekken and 3S! But I've been playin the hell outa T5, such a great game. Anna owns and that's the way it is.
In tournaments I'm placing top 3, so yeah!

It'd be cool, to play vs. yha soon. Especially in 3S. I mean you guys still play religiously right?

So Stefan, Maobei, and Rob: are you guys playin Tekken as well?
This will be good... :badboy:!

Well I just thought I'd say hello, see yha round!

The KYSG combo looks legit because Ibuki takes it hardcore for damage. As far as testing for real it would be hard because all of KYSG's stuff is done on a programmable pad.

Wow look at all these people. I invited some guilty gear people too from the neo-geo board. People are coming out of the woodwork.

I'm not sure if I buy it yet, the first hit of that combo is doing like 40%, with full taunt that will only hit for <20%. Did anyone else notice the part where it said "Training Mode Only" ? Was that an umbrella for the rest of the movie?

Programmable pad, training mode specific, damage changed in the option menu, wow, some great combos there :-p

GG - Dizzy, May, Jam, Axl, Potemkin, Eddie

stefan- i dont know how serious you are about playing t5 or even paul but i can give you a few things with him

most safe pauls sit at mid to long range and poke you with d+1~d(holding down during its recovery both makes it safe and allows you to go for mixups)
they do this to condition you to wait for more options, even though paul isnt slow by any means

qcf+2 is the money maker, medium risk high reward(especially on a clean hit counter hit)
mix this with grabs(long grabs are executed as f+1+3 or f+2+4) or with his d+4,2,1+2

paul has a solid snake dash for movement qcf~u repeat or even a hayashida step qcb~u repeat

standard juggles are u/f+3,4, d+1+2
and d/f+2, b+3, 1, ff, 1, ff+21(or you can just keep jabbing until you get them to a wall and do ff+3,4,d+4..or just a qcf+2)

Thanks for the Paul tips Dan. I'm interested in starting to play T5 somewhat seriously. I haven't really experimented with any other people yet, but since I played Paul a bit in T3 (I didn't play it seriously, just to see then endings ), I figured I'd start with someone that I know slightly.

Some of the things you mentioned I had figured out, but most of it is stuff that I'll have to try out. For example, I had already figured out that much of his game revolves around his qcf+2.

Some of the things that frustrate me are that moves are state/position-based instead of using just the joystick motions (and being able to buffer the moves). For example, when you press d,df,f, it puts Paul into a forward stepping state. If you press 2 while you're in this state, he'll do his cool move (I don't really know the names yet). However, if you, let's say, jab and while the jab animation is being performed you press d,df,f and then press 2 right after he completes the animation, the move won't come out.

Also, I don't like the fact that in some combos, you have to press the button well ahead of when the move actually comes out. For instance in his 10-hit combo(s), after the third hit, you have to start pressing like 2 or 3 buttons ahead of what's actually happening on the screen. It becomes more of an exercise of remembering abstract timing than reacting to what is happening on the screen.

Anyway, I'll have to practice some more so that I can beat you on Saturday . I'm sure that you can give me some more tips once you see me play.

BIG JK
05-04-2005, 01:07 PM
dont worry about the 10 strings, i know what you are saying about the timing
there are very few useful ones in the game, and even those are like...for variety only
but even i still mash like mash every single hit
like with pauls i do this
12333222221111 etc etc
so you dont have to waste your time and patience on those if you dont want to

other than 10 strings are you finding any other cases where you have to hit the button well in advance though?

as for the buffering i can understand that, its one of the great things about games like sf, and sc is having that freedom
there ARE moves that are like that in tekken just not as universal as in those games, its more of a special feature
and mostly exists with command throws
a few examples of those moves are: julia's qcb, f+2 throw, ravens throw hcb, f+1+2, steves flicker stance 1+2(you can hit 1 of the buttons and then upon recover hit the other, but this is more of an annoyance than good thing :))

you can also buffer 1 directional into the last frames of animation in any move (although it is my personal belief that they changed it to 2 directionals in T5)
and using this you can buffer a sidewalk(u,u or d,d)into the recovery on most moves which helps for getting your opponents off axis if they get too hasty
in tekken you have moves that recover crouching also...if you buffer in a sidewalk you can make any of these moves recover standing

and buffering your dashes is the only real way to do the dash jab juggles
like for that paul one d/f+2, b+3, 1, 1, 1
just tap forward as he recovers from each jab then tap forward again if you get it down you can get 8 jabs in a juggle instead of say 4...which is a difference maker because then you take them to the wall and slaughter them but its hard at first

the same applies to anymove with f,f, in its motion too
pauls 1 grants alot of advantage for example so its a good way to start a mixup its possible to do 1, ff+1+2 or 1, ff+2:1(the just frame) without ever seeing paul do his ff dash

for moves like qcf+2 you can execute it so fast the crouch dash doesnt even come out too

haha i understand this is alot to just dump on you and maybe even trivial to you at this point, but im a super nerd!!!
so just in case you wanted to get into it all or if these other kids were curious about all that jazz

why is short short super so easy

ken rules

last night i was trying to buffer the directions for parrying(f or d) into my super and not having the best luck with it...but i think it still might be possible? is it? D(parry),d/f,f,d,d/f,f+k? or d,d/f,F(parry),d,d/f,f+k

Goteku
05-05-2005, 08:11 AM
you shouldn't be able to "buffer" parries, since you do require to be neutral before you can parry. however, you can "store" motions.. so you can do something like qcf, neutral, parry, qcf+K
or if you wanna run the huge risk, you can even do qcf, neutral, d(parry), d/f, f+k since you don't need the entire d,d/f,f,d,d/f,f, i think. you should be able to get away with missing one step, i'm pretty sure.
since i know for a fact that half circle moves can be done with one missing direction and 360's can be done as 5/8 rotation.
oh right. you can store that motion for about 1 second. it works best with charge moves, but you can do it wiht normal stuff, too. it makes my buffered gigas'ing sexylike.

short-cutting motions makes for standing gigas'ing

Shogun17
05-05-2005, 08:17 AM
why is short short super so easy

ken rules

last night i was trying to buffer the directions for parrying(f or d) into my super and not having the best luck with it...but i think it still might be possible? is it? D(parry),d/f,f,d,d/f,f+k? or d,d/f,F(parry),d,d/f,f+k
short, short, standing short is easier .

Anyway, usually one doesn't bother trying to buffer parries into Ken's super motion. The main reason is that usually you don't use the super after a parry, you do it to punish a blocked move or you combo into it. In addition, if a direction input is used for a parry, then I don't think it counts towards the input for special moves. I can't count the number of times someone jumps at me and I get parry->hadouken instead of the shoryuken that I was planning on because they attacked earlier than I anticipated. So if you want to parry into shoryuken, you need to press f (parry), f, d, df + p.

BIG JK
05-05-2005, 08:23 AM
so if i understand you correctly the real notation of a parry is d,n or f,n??

i practiced parrying into short short super last night :)

now when you say store the motion
what i read about that was that like you still had to hold f before you hit the button with charged moves
is this true? if so does it apply to the qcf, hcf, 360 stuff too?(because it seems like you are saying i can do qcf and leave it for a full second then do qcf+k and still get it)

im sorry i am just trying to 100% clear on what you said

im thinking it would be hilarious to challenge daigo to a money match at evo and get it on tape for everyone to laugh at me, maybe ill even talk shit

my first post there was in reply to maobei's post just in case of confusion

stefans-
i understand about the parry vs block with kens super, i was just challenging myself :)
i did try punishing something on block with it(ryu's d+rh)
and i thought maybe i just picked a crappy move for it so i moved on to ...maybe i should parry it for fancy points

good example with the parry to fireball instead of dp, i think i have done that already too :P

DigitalGypsy
05-05-2005, 08:33 AM
yes you can do qcf and pause and continue and it will work. That's one of the nice things about 3S is you can spread out your motions over moves.

I only buffer parries into throws and attacks. I guess that's everything.

short short super is for men. :)

Yeah that can be an issue, babies/kids are like a sponge. Especially at her age, when kids start to begin to talk, all they are doing is just mocking those around her. You dont want her to start cussin out kids at school then dragon punching her teachers when she gets older. The last time I was there, I was kinda wondering why you guys were cussing around her, and that concerned me a bit. Yeah, she doesnt really understand anything yall is saying, but she can mock. magna cum laude

so when i gave my card for hte guy to read, he looked at it paused, scrunched up his face, looked at me.. looked back to the card, then said "Yao feng" and i just about pissed myself there laughing at the n00bcake ^_^

MO-BEY:
king is a slow character so right from the get go you gotta hone your backdash because making people wiff will be your best throw setups

8 frame jabbers will give you a hard time because you have a 9 frame jab
d+1,n+2 will be your best friend when getting rushed down but be careful of it getting low parried

GENERALLY king needs to turtle until you REALLY get alot of practice under your belt

d/f+1,2 is the bee's knees because its a solid 2 hit mid string that grants king alot of advantage on hit for a mixup
BUT i prefer d/f+1 all by itself, the advantage is greater and people will sit there and wait for the second hit(as they should) plus on block they are forced crouching and RIGHT in front of you for some crazy mind games

d+4, d/f+2 and f+1+2 are your best tracking moves

shining wizard is a throw executed from running, however there is a way to cheat the system and execute it without actually running f,n,ff+2+4 is how you do it(you have to do it decently fast)
but this throw can even be done in juggles and its greatness

your 3 standard throws should be giant swing(f,hcf+1), tombstone(d/b,f+2, and yes it IS delivery not digiorno) and shining wizard
giant swing and shining wizard come out in 10 frames which is insanely fast and tombstone comes out in 11

you can buffer gs and tombstone during anything
a few classic setups are d/f+1,throw_ws+4,throw_d/b+1,rockbottom(d,d/b,d,d/b+1+2)

top five moves in my opinion:
1. d/f+1
2. f+3:1+2
3. giant swing
4. hopkick(u/f+4)
5. shining wizard(this move just scares people into doing stupid things if you fake run in)

but im no king PRO so if you like other stuff, dont worry he has alot of fun stuff

standard juggles-
u/f+4, f+22, 1, giantswing
u/f+4, f+22, 12, b+3
u/f+4, f+22, 1, ff, 1, shinging wizard

Good ups on saturday everyone. We had to leave because my man Robert was allergic to Mike's cat. Also, Mike, sorry my ugly face scared your baby. =( I really like kids man, I hate making them cry.

Dan: thanks for those tips. btw. what's the colon for (not the butt sex colon, the punctuation one)?
in your "top 5 moves" list, you have
2. f+3:1+2

was wondering what the ':' was for. also. what were those throws from ducking? oh right. it looks like you're saying you can do throws while the opp is up in the air... is that accurate?
and it also seems like you're saying you can do throws while they're in hit-stun? is that also true? if so, tekken is so much grappler-friendly :p
the only thing i applaud SNK for was the whole grabs from hitstun deal ^_^

btw Stefan, that was my sleep-reading. i thought it had your avatar next to it.. i have zero idea what happened :p
but yes, Yussef... that's what magna cum laude was.. and thanks Tarkan, i guess your explanation was useful to the person it was intended for rather than being meant for Stefan, who probably should know my name by now ^_^

yes you can sometimes get free throw attempts on hit stuns and block stuns
and throws are CRAZY good
with advancing grabs you can grab from almost 1/2 screen

the colon in f+3:1+2 indicates its a just frame, hit 1+2 just as the f+3 hits

last night i was checking out remy and he is pretty cool after all
charge partitioning? nice
its so deep that it kind of eliminated my previous ideas about tricky charging

that really gave me a nice kick back on how much more knowledge will be required just to be able to compete
its not that i under-sold how much there is to learn i am just getting a better idea of it all

Remy takes a bit more work than Ken :p
you gotta learn some charge partition stuff if you want his good pressure, and you hafta do kara-flashkicks for his decent combos. you can get
corner: neutral throw>kara-hk flash (the kara is d.mk, so the motion would be charge [d], mk>up+hk). i think on some chars, you can land the flash without the kara.

also, toptier Remy strat: use blue nocturne and get a red parry>super haha :p
otherwise, do weird shit like charge [b], dash (hold back), dash (hold back), d.mp>towards+punch for a sonic boom :p
or even dash (down), dash (down), up+K for a flash if they try to punish your dash.
he's all funky. i saw a few Ryo-chin matches, and he's boring-ish to watch since it's a lot of zoning and chipping with booms and if you ever manage to hit with jumping hp, you've got lots of damage:
i think the biggest midstage would be:
jumping hp, land, d.hp>hcb lk>flash (mebbe ex?)
not 100% sure if it's air-to-ground jumping hp or if it's air-to-air jumping hp. but it does decent damage.. like around 30%?

poke with s.mp, d.mp, s.mk, far s.hk, and close towards+hk is overhead (i think it's hk.. it's the one where he takes a slow step and stomps down)... and i think close towards+hp might be an overhead as well.. it's the one where he stomps and brings a fist down on waist-level.
oh right. also poke with booms :p
[b], f>b+P, hold [b], pause, f>[b]+K... f>[b]+P, then alternate with K and P booms. and after about 4, you can start throwing them rapid-fire. it was mad lame in a match vid i saw ^_^

also. Remy's taunt gives his hits more stun power, and you can hit with booms in between taunts without using up the taunt, i believe. if you get 4x taunts, you can get nearly makoto-style stun combos :p
but good luck getting taunts with only booms to hold people back

and finally.. you should obviously use blue nocturne with Remy since it's his best anti-pressure super :p
but if you want to play it like other people and be all safe instead of being all gimmicky, then use the super flash for damage or super booms for ex

HA i feel super cool now, i noticed that the normal throw was a combo starter in corners, i actually did combo the super on ryu
not all the hits came in but it was enough for me to know that it was possible
i like how technical remy sounds :( i originally didnt like him at all
f+forward to do the stompy overhead(another cool ass move by the way)

where is this video you seen? im interested in seeing high level remy
probably wont make him my main but he is tricky enough to want to play with alot
thanks alot

ooh getting that understanding of the sysssssssssstemmmmm

Dan, if you picked up Remy, it would be totally awesome. We haven't had a new character (with the exception of Bmike's Round Robin ownage) in ages. The closest was Frank when he would come and play Akuma, other than that it's just been the same 3-4 characters all day, every day.

Remy is not only a different character, but totally different from say, Ken, Yun, or Chun. (Not saying Ryu is all that different)

Either way, I'd encouredge you to stick with him, even if you notice his downfalls vs Ken (like every 3S character) it would still feel great to own a Ken with Remy, has that ever been done?

I've seen it (ryochin) and I have TONS of Remy footage. People need to bring CDR's and I'll definately hook you guys up.

Use SA1 with Remy. Please.

The sexiest Remy combo I've seen is jump in fierce, some move (d.fwd?) canceled into the low dive kick thing (c.p. down), dash, (finish c.p.) flash kick. DOPE!

practice cvs2 is ok. MVC2 is only if you want to. we don't really play that anymore.
