Kauai Sands Seaside Hotel.. Real ghetto spot is holding out some great deals. Check them out online.. They have car and room packages. we are not gonna turn down the speed because JDing and parrying is to easy on a slow speed. rayzan rarely plays on oahu but when he does its at pearlridge. we always played on afaster speed so best bet get used to it before you come or use s groove the dodge has a got a good time frame.

It's a typical scrub mentality. "We can't deal with certain things so we'll handicap everybody." It's kinda like going to a console tournament where MAS sticks aren't allowed. Admittedly it's harder to beat a scrub at a scrub's game but what can you do . . . obviously nobody is getting through Kaua`i's thick collective skull so I'll just out and say it - you're all a bunch of scrubs living in your own little scrubby world. Doublespeak seems to be the norm in your little scrubby world where on the one hand you want more competition but on the other hand you want to give yourselves as much of an advantage doing so. I won't name any names but Perhaps Somebody eXceptional will show up and prove what scrubs you are. If you truly think you guys are the hot shits you imply then bet the man some money.

If we are going to spend our time and money to go out there and play you guys, it would be in your best interest to play the game how the rest of the world plays it, or else you won't be able to gauge your skills correctly nor will you transistion well at tournaments outside of Kauai.

Let's be honest here - it's not a little change. Again, this is typical of scrubs playing in their own world. You can see it in a lot of Kane`ohe people - makes me ashamed that I came from that side of the island. They play the game out with themselves and start creating these scrub house rules because they lack the interest in actually exploring the game more - much less actually looking at those Evo videos they claim they have.

Your 3 time champ business is worthless. The island of Kaua`i has a population of about 60,000 people which makes up about 5 percent of the entire population of the state of Hawai`i. Kaua`i is small. Sure, there's about 4 or 5 players in Oahu posting about the speed, letting you know that the entire world plays on the default settings - but us 4 or 5 players are the only people who even know you guys exist. Not to slam on you guys in any way, but I'm being very straight to the point. Listen to Ernest, but don't get offended by how he says it - just listen to what he is saying.

Again, it's fine you like to play on a higher speed setting, but in the long run, you're going to be better competition if you play at the speed everyone in the world plays at. Oh, as for being pros, there are a handful of people on Oahu who are very famous in the gaming community. Yes, only a handful, but compared to the amount of players we have here? I would say Oahu is doing fine in that department. I didn't even know people played on Kauai.

Speaking in four letter words does not help you validate why you are not playing at the world standard settings for tournaments. It just spreads a negative image of yourself.

Just in case you didn't know, over the past three years, oahu players have consistently placed in the top thirty two at evo 2003 & 2004(ernestw, erikbuild, myself) and at ecc (ernestw) for cvs2 (2004). PSX also placed ninth at evo 2003 out of like 500 people so to say that no one good plays here would be a bit of an exaggeration. We know a little bit about what we're talking about. My viewpoint on the whole issue is that we (guys planning on comin down) thought that you ran a "normal" cvs2 tourney especially considering the fact that you used examples of Choi, Ortiz and the evo dvd. Don't get me wrong you can run whatever tourney you want to run and you have. But I guess there's the misinterpretation that we thought you're tourney was like the tourneys that you see on dvds when in fact this is not the case. By saying that we suck and we'd get killed by cali players/rest of the world when we in fact have played against the best under NORMAL TOURNAMENT STANDARDS is illogical. Just try to understand where we're coming from. I know that you know that the way y'all run your tourneys would be frowned upon by the rest of the world. Which is fine. But to say that we suck just because we follow the same format as the REST OF WORLD (mind you your heroes including Choi and Ortiz) does not make sense. Hope this adds some insight as to why some players are discontent about the issue. :pleased:

I didn't see any Kauai players on any DVDs. The CVS2 matches on the EVO DVDs are lacking... more MVC2 matches than anything. On the flipside, DJ-B and HR both have MVC2 matches on the EVO DVDs.

Just letting you know that this is gonna be a futile argument. This shouldn't be new to anyone, but for those that haven't learned this in grade school, just cuz you can't/don't see something, it doesn't mean that its not there/didn't happen. Just cause you don't see any oahu players on the dvd doesn't mean that no oahu players made the top thirty two. In fact the dvd only shows the top 8. It doesn't even show the whole top 32 final bracket. Do you even know how the evo tourneys work? Just to make it to the top thirty two you need to basically win a mini tourney with about 12-16 people. Then from there you get put into the "final" bracket of thirty two which three out of the four players planning on attending this Kaua'i tourney have reached. In addition, Cali players are good but their top players are what seperates them. If you want the creme' de la creme, then look far east toward the Japanese, who are machines. They have beaten the rest of the world consistently and should be idolized if any. Putting it bluntly, you don't really know whats out there. We do. We have traveled to the evos. We have played in the great cali arcades like SHGL, SVGL, Family Fun, etc. You may not like what ernestw says, but you should listen because of his traveling/tourney experience. He has played against the top players on both coasts and suceeded. He beat a japanese player (RF who took top 8 and is on the evo dvd if I'm not mistaken) at a pre evo Family Fun tourney and almost took Choi out at evo. The final score was 2-1 and Choi was down to his R2 C-sagat. The point I'm trying to make is that Oahu players have established themselves despite having a small gaming community. Also, to reiterate the points made prior to this post, the rest of the world ESPECIALLY the EVO tourneys use NORMAL TOURNEY SETTINGS. If you're gonna put the tourney on such a high pedestal, then why not use what settings they use? Hope this enlightens you. :cool:

yeah i've played every type of CVS2 player....Hawaii, Cali, east coast (NC), if you count XBOX LIVE (I don't). Everyone plays CVS2 differently. It's like saying Karate is better than Tae Kwon Do and shit like that

Putting it BLUNTLY, you don't really know whats out there. We do. We have traveled to the evos. We have played in the great cali arcades like SHGL, SVGL, Family Fun, etc.

BLUNTLY....we have attended the tourneys and played under international/national tournament settings and have fought to prove Hawaii as a state has some skill. Starting with GN placing 9th in MVC2 back in the days when the evo tourneys were B# tourneys. In consecutive years since that first tourney somebody (if not more) from hawaii (Oahu to be exact!) has proven themselves. In the first ever evo GN finished ninth again for MVC2 and about everyone who attended from Oahu knocke d off some recognizable players. As for CVS2....like HawaiianRyan said PSX, Erikbuild, Ernest, djb, and HawaiianRyan has had successful standings. Do you realize how many matches are in the tourney's as a whole? If they were to try to capture every match on a dvd it would take waaaay too many dvd's. Instead they focus on known "COMMON" names. In the long run people from the mainland think Hawaii as a state has skills but in reality it has been ONLY Oahu players that have made the name for the State of Hawaii

As far as Cali players go, the scrub to top player ratio in California is ridiculous. It's like 12087410250193285:1. You can go to any mall out there and just start owning the hell outta people (Hayward - I mean Southland mall :rofl:). There are pockets of higher skilled players out there, BEARcade, the GL's, GT, FFA, etc... but the average player skill over there is below the average player skill in Oahu. The scrubs are pretty beast over there, but as a whole, I think Oahu has a much better scrub to top player ratio.

That doesn't really matter to me. If you say he is, then he must be right? Riiight. You seem to be either missing my point or refusing to acknowledge it. The point that I was trying to make is that you put up Cali/evo dvd play on such a high pedestal, yet you fail to recognize one important aspect of the way they (and the rest of the world) play the game which is the speed factor. What do you think Choi and Ortiz would say if you told them that the settings that they had for the game were scrubby and too slow? As far as him being as good as anyone on our island, do you mean under NORMAL WORLDWIDE CONDITIONS (same as the evo dvd and any other non Kauai tourney)? Because if so, I'd be willing to make a little wager. Hundred bucks sound good. The best from your island vs. the best (PSX) from our island. 2/3, 3/5, 6/10 or whatever you want. Hell, if the machine at your arcade doesn't have the proper settings, we could even do it on console. All we need are tvs, we bring the sticks or you can use your own controllers, game, systems. As long as everything is under Worldwide standards. You have a lot of confidence that good players can adapt right which is probably true to a certain extent. What do you say? Again, as a host, it would be better to change the tourney to default settings. If you look at it through our eyes, we are spending money to go over there and we want to play our best. I don't want to drop a bill or two for a trip over there and not be able to play my best because of nonstandard game settings. We actually used to play on the higher speeds at Pearlridge Funz, but after we found out that the tourneys ran in the mainland were on default settings we forced Fun Factory to change the settings....so it's not like we have never played on a higher speed setting. It's mainly because it's better "practice" to play on the nationwide tournament settings that's all.

Now I wish I could go but I can't....at this rate I would put alot on PSX, EB, or HR but I would even let Ducky go first and put money on him (less money, of course) and I don't even really know him.

Hey everyone! KK here. My first time here, so first and foremost, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm a kauai CVS2 player on kauai, simply named K. :) I've been reading up on these fourms and well... there is alot of valid points. I do beleive that we should turn the speed down to tourny rules. Why fight what has been established for so long? I'll try to talk to the fun factory peeps to see if we can switch that. Shouldn't be too hard lol. Next up...

There is alot of negitive energy coming off of these posts... well, valid at some points... but none the less, all ben is trying to say is that we, the kauai CVS2... people (lol), want to connect with other people. Plain and simple. We are a small island, true, but we too have big ideas. We want to test our skill and possibly colaborate and learn from other players that have reached higher player skills. Money and all of that really don't matter. Truthfully, all we want is the respect. Win or lose, we simply want to colaborate and become better so maybe one day, we might have a shot at other higher tournys or maybe even change the views . Either way, hope these clears up things and settles any flames that might have been insited. Peace everyone!

P.S: I RARELY can get online... VERY RARELY lmao... but yea, I'll check back from time to time. Also, my team and grooves are:

That shows respect, especially for people that placed 32nd in evo. I mean, every accomplished master will beat down on the lesser people, instead of taking it in stride and helping the lesser scene as a whole.

Please keep in mind that all info I'm posting is if you leave sometime during May 16th, and plan to return sometime May 18th.

Console speeds for all fighting games are never the same speed as the arcade. Its always a tad faster or slower. MVC2 ...CVS2 ...etc.. Reason being is conversion to home ports along with console speed and processing speed.


CVS2 is a tad faster on home console versions compared to arcade on the same default speed 3. I can easily notice it in training mode when I attempting the L2 QCF x 2, DP cancel L1 combo with Sagat. Ducky was next to me and I pointed out the speed is a tad faster and throws on my window of time to land that DP into the L1 juggle.

Its not a whole big major difference but its noticeable.


Now I notice you said its on speed 4.... is the machine still on speed 4 there? Or was it changed back to default speed?

Default CvS2 on DC is only set to Speed 3, most arcades set it to Speed 4, so just up the speed once. Damage should be fine.

When I lived in Cali all of So.Cal was speed 3. Family Fun, Camelot, Regency, and Pomona Arcade where all speed 3. SVGL in No.Cal was also speed 3.


The speed 4 thing some folks got the idea I guess early on when Shgl made it speed 4 for a bit then later changed to speed 3 when they found out Japan played it on default.


As for Oahu, Hawaiian Brians always was speed 3 since day 1.

BTW speed does affect the game...

Your charge time is still a real 2 full seconds, your window for parrying is still the same amount of frames but the time you got to input them makes it harsh do to the speed increase. Clock speed is the biggest change as it runs a lot faster then normal.

PSX was trying to do that combo forever on console - only hit it like once or twice, and this is a guy whose execution is tighter than a 10 year old virgin. The speed changes throw off timing (1 frame links, for example) and also makes the game more noob friendly in a sense - combos that used to require tight timing and execution end up getting mashed out.

I can confirm that NorCal arcades (Southland mall when they had CVS2, BEARcade, MGL, SVGL, CVGL, Oaktree, Nickel City, Sony Metreon) all had/have the default arcade settings of speed 3, damage 2. Console isn't arcade accurate - PSX has shown me inaccuracies before when it comes to console, and even little things inbetween different versions of CVS2 (DC and PS2).

I totally agree. Thats what I'm hoping for. ^_^ Still need to work on my Akuma game though. GOD... It's so difficult to work with that guy, but when it all comes together, it's beautiful. Still though, he has SO many shared weaknesses with morrigan that I wanted to put in Hibiki instead... but I love the Shungokusatsu traps. ^_^

Well, to be a bit blunt, thats kinda rude, ya know? Asking us our tactics right now instead of seeing it in action. But most of us are mixed. There is alot of rollers (for now. Since the speed change though, that has gone down due to MANY a punished roll. lol) Combos, those are in there, duh. lol. We're not THAT new to the game. A few of us can cross up, my game has them definately (morrigan lol), infinites... nah. shortx3 ->supers... well, some peeps try to link up supers. I can link some hits to morrigan's DI, but more often then not, I try to cross up -> DI. Footies, most of us can footsie alright. Zoning, heh, some know em, some don't. And as for the dash ragining demon, I prefer the corner trap teleport cross up ragining demon or the short hurricane kick into raging demon. ^_^ No one really plays K-groove cept me and allyn. I fell off K-groove for a while to explore N, and I love it. Lock downs... well, no one can really pull off consistant rushing strings to lock people down. I can pull a few with haohmaru and morrigan. Corner traps... well, not to many people fully understand those concepts...


But all in all, our playing fields are very mixed. We do have holes in our abilities at the moment, but we're evolving after each and every tourny, so we've made progress. I try to pump info into our players (EVO DVD, frame data, techniques, etc) but some learn, some don't. I'd love to learn, as will probally some of our people. ^_^

I'm not asking for chance. lol. I WANT to be challenged so I can become better. And as for the damage, yea... They do take MAD damage, but I'm comfortable with morrigans rushes. As for Akuma... I'm quickly learning that it needs to be nearly perfect, if not, 100% perfect. Zoning, strings, traps, all flawless... But hey, I'mma guy that loves to rushdown. I was thinking Hibiki to help ballance the team, but I can't think of any other charicters to use. I'm not very comfortable quite yet with any other charicters. To tell ya the truth, I only have about... 2 months exp. ^_^; But I progress quickly. As for fustration....

Your raging demon "traps" don't work. Not guaranteed at all. Short hurricane to raging demon is an especially big waste of meter.

Also, as far the DVDs go, if you run them next to a machine, of course they will be a little bit faster, depending on the year, since the EVO DVDs you have might be the console matches.

Well i guess ya'll use primarily N groove... cuz like syxx said only a few would be crazy enuff to try S. As for N-groove....best in hawaii prolly djb or drugz with that groove. Ummmm.....A-groove tactics....nobody that uses A-groove is attending...djb, pureelite, ernest, OrochiKyosuke, and I use A-groove. You really have to set-up a good zone to make it work and concentrate on building meter. Everyone here that uses that groove luvs it. If you learned that groove you wouldn't be soooo scared of K-groovers on regular speed. It's still scary tho.

We stay there past the closing time ^_^ So hey, till when ever shawny shawn wants to head out (probally not till 4am+ lol) Then it's all gravy. ;) As for grooves, we have earl trying to use P groove and sometimes Ace hardware ray (not tech ray). Me an tech ray use N groove (the two rushdown players of FF ^_^), allyn took on K groove (My K grooving lives on... Sniffle...) Shawn uses S groove (yes syxx... another S groover lol) Brandon tries A groove every now and then, Terry sticks with C, but switches to A occasionaly... and the list goes on lol. But for the main stay... I'd say it's pretty much C, A, N, S, K, P in about that order, of people that use grooves.

That's an understatement about S-groove.

It's like saying Karate is better than Kung Fu or Tae Kwon Do is better than Kempo. Everything is equally good if you master it and know the ins and outs...


Actually, when you look at it logically, S-Groove simply can't deal the same damage as C, A, N, or K... P I'm not too sure about, depends on how much you parry. You only get lvl 1 supers, you need to charge for them, you can spam supers, sure - but you have to be near death to do so. The MAX damage bonus isn't as much as K-Groove either, and a K-Groove user will get at least 1 lvl 3 super a match. S-Groove is just not a top groove... there are reasons why they can C and A are the best grooves.
