There are so many crisis stories out: infinite crisis, crisis on infinite earths, secret crisis, coundown to infinite crisis, identity crisis,52, n all the other pre n post crisis stuff.
So can someone tell me the chronological order in which the crisis events/books came in? So far i know i'm going to get crisis on infintie earths:absolute edition cuz i just perfer buying the hardcover editions of any graphic novel so other then that are there any other crisis books that i should get? cuz the reviews of crisis on infinite earths says it doesn't include of the pre or post crisis stuff whic hi know is important to understand.
I know it takes a full understanding of the dc universe to truely appreciate any of the crisis books n although i just started collecting graphic novels a few months ago i do have a pretty good understanding of the dc universe and it's complex continuity issues or at least more so then the average reader and although i'm more of a marvel guy i am a huge fan of the dc universe.
What batman graphic novels are good? so far i have hush, dkr, year one, arkham asylum, long halloween, dark victory and plan on getting batman:gothic/a death in the family/the killing joke so are there any essential bat reads i'm msissing?
My favorite Batman book is Batman Child of Dreams by Kia Asamiya. Yeah, he's a manga artist (Steam Detectives) but this is a really great read from the land of the rising sun. It's a great story and a pretty cool way to feature a few of the rogues in the Batmanverse in one story, and Kia Asamiya's Catwoman is top tier. I think it would make an excellent movie, or at least an anime.
I also want to mention Batman: Hong Kong. This time Batman's being drawn by a Hong Kong artist and it rules! He goes to Hong Kong and teams up with a manwa (Hong Kong comic) character Knight Dragon in a very bizarre crossover concept ha ha! Not as good as Child of Dreams but also an entertaining read, it's cool for me seeing Batman handled by people around the globe.
Batman Black and White 1 & 2, both of these books are great. You get to see a slew of comic book legends doing short B&W Batman stories (it's almost like a crash course of comic book history) plus a Bruce Tim Batman Two Face story, plus a Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) Batman story, a kick ass Alex Ross black and white drawing of Batman's all scarred up back, and this is just in the first book! Too much goodness for me to give away.
Aside from those I love some of the ones you mentioned, Killing Joke, Death in the Family and Dark Knight Returns. There's another book that tells Ra's Al Ghoul's origin which is cool. Hush I read as seperate issues, not as a trade, but I loved that too. Of the three arcs Jim Lee's been doing with DC, his Superman run and his current Batman and Robin All Stars run, Hush is the only one that has a good story IMHO...
On the crossover side, Batman and Captain America is great, harkens back to the WWII era of comics, people smiling and punching people out like the good old days, Joker and Red Skull team up and Batman and Captain America fight them during WWII. When Captain America revives after being frozen in ice years later after the events of the story, he's found by Batman and Robin, well I won't give it away but it's an interesting take on who becomes Batman and who becomes Robin 20 plus years after Bruce can't be Batman anymore. Be warned that this isn't well, post Dark Knight brooding Batman, this is the old school Batman, but it's written and drawn so wonderfully you won't care.
The Batman / Spider-man comics aren't too bad, the first one with Joker/Carnage is a little better than the second one with Kingpin. But it's hard for me to swallow Batman beating up Carnage, eh good for Batfans though.
I really liked the Spawn and Batman too, the one written by Frank Miller and drawn by Todd McFarlane. The ending is pretty funny I thought.
Funny books this week, slight spoilers but nothing too major I don't think.
Thunderbolts - I was just talking about Zemo and Dontor Octopus not being in the same book hardly ever in this thread before, and here they are, in the same book! Zemo in my head got Cobra Commander's voice and Doc Ock got his Spidey 2 movie voice, lol! Zemo's the man, he's playing both sides of the Registration Act and has his own master plan to turn on everybody, which of course will blow up in his face eventually but it's a fun ride.
Sensational Spider-Man - This story happens just before Thunderbolts as Doc Ock is in it too. Doctor Octopus deals with Spider-Man's unmasking. Also there's a pretty simple explanation to what was brought up before, about why Spidey will continue to teach after his unmasking. Well, why he'll continue teaching for now anyway.
Wolverine Origins - HOLY CRAP AFTER SOME PATHETIC ISSUES OF NUKE AND WOLVERINE TIE INS TO AMERICA - NO NOT CANADA OR JAPAN, AMERICA AND CRAP LIKE CONDOLEESA RICE'S DEATH WHO NO ONE CARES ABOUT THIS ISSUE WAS GOOD! This is the ultimate Captain America vs. Wolverine fight! Captain America is the man! Hmm, some insight into Wolverine's origin was brought up, Cap mentions him being "Weapon X" but I wonder if they meant Weapon 10 since Morrison's run revealed Captain America to be one of the Weapons too. Nuke may either be one of the weapons or part of an even larger program, not sure. Next week is supposed to have a bigger reveal in Wolverine Origins next month, here's hoping it's a good one... Wolverine still needs to get his ass to Canada in this book though IMHO...
X-Men - I like the shake up and the new team, with Sabretooth how crazy is that! But I will miss Bachalo drawing ninja slut AKA Psylocke for now...
Ms. Marvel - Hey man, am I sensing a Dr. Strange and Ms. Marvel future hook up going on? He laready got down with Dead Girl, Strange is becoming a pimp...
52 - Pretty good, focused on Clark Kent this time.
In Comic Shop News this week they sade that when the Blade comic book starts up, Spider-Man will be a vampire in the first issue. MARVEL: "Buy our Blade comic, please!" Ah, it's gimmicky enough for me to buy the first issue at least...
Regarding Civil War #5 and who's pointing the gun at Spider-Man - Comic Shop News does mention that Punisher will be in the issue. Though I don't think it's Punisher pointing the gun at him, too easy to figure out. We'll see.

I'd rather have two softcovers and then one oversized HC than two Premiere HCs and two softcovers. But Deadly Genesis is still worth getting as a Premiere HC. It's not the best X-Men story but it's pretty good and I liked it a lot. It's also a nice lead-in to Brubaker's new Uncanny run.

Holy crap, that's what sano looks like. I used to hear James Earl Jones' voice in my head whenever I read one of your posts, but this completely demystifies everything. Now I don't know what voice to hear when I read your posts. I... I think I need some time to think about this. Just. Man. I'm speechless right now. I don't know what to think. Wow.

Yeah, I got Batman: Child Of Dreams also, and it's pretty good. Asamiya's interpretation of Batman is a real success. It's got a brisk pace to it that isn't too common in Batman comics. In some ways, it's an even better run through of Batman's rogues gallery than Hush.
There are also some pretty good Elseworlds Batman stories. There's Batman: Ego, which I never read because I can never find it. But I know it's awesome because it's Darwyn Cooke.
Batman: Detective No. 27 is kind of a What If Bruce Wayne were part of a secret society of early 20th century detectives? It's got nice art, too.
Batman: Gotham Noir kicks all sorts of ass. It's by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. That should be enough to give any comics fan a boner.
Speaking of Brubaker, he also wrote a book called Batman: The Man Who Laughs. The Man Who Laughs kinda deals with Year One and The Killing Joke's ideas, and it's about Batman's first encounter with Joker. Also, if you can, look for Detective Comics #s 784-786. That's another Brubaker story, Made Of Wood, which I mentioned a few posts ago. And Batman #603, another Brubaker/Phillips team-up is one of my favorite single issues ever. Despite the fact that it takes place during the crap Bruce Wayne: Fugitive storyline, it stands strong as 22 page tribute to who Batman is.
JLA: Tower of Babel is a Batman story that people might not immediately think of when they think Batman, because it's JLA. But this is a Batman story that really shows how crafty he can be.
As far as crossovers go, I think the best one I've read was Batman/Deathblow by Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo. Awesome art, awesome script, but GREAT concept. It's a crossover between Batman and a WildStorm character who died many years ago. So Batman and Deathblow never meet face to face, but Deathblow's past impacts Batman's life in a very exciting story. I can't believe no one else has ever thought to do a crossover with a dead character.
Gotham Central and (Brubaker's) Catwoman are also superb reading material. They both flesh out Gotham and display another corner of Batman's world. Plus they are both better than most Batman comics. Just track them down.
---
This Week's Stuff
The Escapists #1. Only one dollar for a full issue of Brian K. Vaughan and Phillip Bond. It reprints a the first chapter of a serialized story from the cancelled Escapist anthology. I highly recommend checking this first issue out. It's only a buck, and it's BKV, c'mon!
---
The thing with Crisis On Infinite Earths, and why I didn't really enjoy it isn't because it requires an encylopedic knowledge of the DC universe(s). It's just that I found that the book was only about comic book characters fighting for survival. Whatever subtext and other themes might have been there were overwhelmed by the scope of the plot. Guess that's why I got bored of it. Plus it was a wordy '80s comic, and those are always hard to read.
Wow.

I'm sticking with Fabian Cortez's voice for Sano, just because it's funny to me and I know for a fact that Sano knows what I'm talking about.
______
I've been looking for Batman: Ego for a look time too, but I can't even find it online or available to download. It's become this huge, built-up, best-Batman-story-of-all-time in my head, just because I've been thinking about it for so long without having found it. There's no way the story is worth the anticipation and the lengths I've gone to find it (browsing half-assed through perhaps three different shops and possibly MULTIPLE Google searches).
I'll also echo the praise for Batman #603, which was a pretty awesome single issue that somehow not only escaped the medicrity of the big crossover it was in, but used its perverse powers to actually fuel the story towards goodness.
Batman/Deathblow was just fucking awesome as well.
________
Shaolin Cowboy - who reads this book?
I've gone through the first three issues, and I cannot escape its ridiculous awesomeness.
Should I wait for a trade, or gobble it all up now?
Zephyranthes
07-13-2006, 10:14 AM
Son, the thing with Shaolin Cowboy and its sister book, Doc Frankenstein is... No one knows when the next issue will ship. Both of those comics kick the asses of almost any other (non-Brubaker/non-BKV) comic on the racks when they do come out. But the shipping schedule is so irregular. I love Doc Frankenstein so much. But the first issue came out in December 2004, and right now there are only 4 damn issues out. How good is it? Doc Frankenstein is so good, it gives the Wachowskis a half decade's worth of Diplomatic Immunity, so I can forgive the Matrix sequels and V For Vendetta.
But yeah. If you wait for the trade, you're probably gonna be waiting a long ass time.
If you dig Geof Darrow's work, I highly recommend checking out his two collaborations with Frank Miller. The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot is pretty funny stuff. And Hard Boiled, which I think is one of Miller's best stories this side of Sin City, Year One, and DKR. Even better than stuff like Martha Washington. The more I think of it, the more I feel like pulling it off my shelf right now and reading it. Hard Boiled. Really, really good.
Get Hard Boiled, Captain Canuck.
I'm sticking with Fabian Cortez's voice for Sano, just because it's funny to me and I know for a fact that Sano knows what I'm talking about.
Okay that'll work! Seriously, where did they find that guy who did Fabian Cortez's voice in the cartoon? Couldn't they find anyone better? Sexual favors I'm betting...

This week wasnt so weak.....Ultimate FF was an awesome read...the zombies are too funny and the Doom vs Reeed confrontation was classic. Ultimate Spidey was alright, Squadron Supreme isnt what is used to be when it was called Supreme Power..
X-Men was average, nothing compared to Uncanny. Warpath is gonna turn into Wolverine v.2 it would seem.

i wonder how the civil war tie-in books will be collected in trade. it would be nice if they bundled them together, maybe cronologically, instead of just having them be the next volume in their respective titles
Zephyranthes

I don't know, man. I wouldn't wanna buy a 15 dollar trade that collects six random Civil War tie-in issues when all I wanna read is She-Hulk #8. The multi-parters, I'd imagine, would be collected as the next volume in the series. I'm worried about the one shots and two or three parters getting lumped together.
i wonder how the civil war tie-in books will be collected in trade. it would be nice if they bundled them together, maybe cronologically, instead of just having them be the next volume in their respective titles
Someone asked this question during the New York Comic convention Civil War panel attended back in February. Quesada said they will all be individual trades, like a Civil War book, a Front Line book, a Spider-Man comics Civil War book, etc. He said if they put all of the Civil War comics together in one trade that it would cost too much money and Marvel wouldn't make much profit. And by doing it this way people could only buy the trades they are interested in and skip the ones they don't care about.
Well, that's what he said back then at least, who knows if his or Marvel's minds will change later on or something.

The latest Superman story arc, Up, Up and Away was such a better story than Superman Returns. It looks like DC is now trying to blend some of the movie concepts into the comics, like Lex being a crazy nut bad guy rather than a respected tyrant, and Superman having the crystal Fortress of Solitude. He even has the embossed \S/ symbol now, which I don't mind too much. I wonder if it was Geoff and Kurt's decision to do this, or if DC wanted them to make the comics more like the movies, to make them easier for new readers. It also makes me wonder if they'll be introducing a baby into it soon, since Clark was powerless for a year and just might have been able to get Lois pregnant in that time.
Luthor turning into a Kingpin Wannabee is IMO the ultimate letdown for the character..
Pre-crisis Lex Luthor and Superboy were the best of friends in high school, until that freak accident that made luthor bald and blamed superman for it..
http://superman.ws/tales2/luthor/
Later it was explained that luthor's REAL hatred was that not based on losing his hair but that such a loss put a blemish on his inner narcissism in perfection (until that accident he was such a superboy fan)
The concept.. Luthor is not TRULY evil.. he does commit crime and murder but is more driven to achive ultimate perfection and conquer superman using his brain..
Come Crisis and It becomes Luthor vs Superman "This city isn't big enough fior the both of us"
although one advantage of the modern set-up is
Superman: Purely Good vs Luthor: Rotten to the core (and loving it) like a Yin/Yang
But Hey Pre-crisis Luthor makes time macines out of..
Orange Juice
Old wood
Glue
and a broken transistor
not even Dr. Doom could do that :D
anyway 52 is slow, but hey with that concept we shouldn't EXPECT it to be fast

Eh, Whedon is good, but while Morrison tried to do all sorts of things that haven't been done before, Whedon tries recapture the essence of classic Xmen stories, especially in the current Hellfire club arc. He also appeared to be willing to carry over on some of the stuff Morrison brought over to the titles, before HoM ruined the booming mutant population concept.
Still, as nice as Asthonishing is I am willing to put more cash on one of the other two titles right now, than I am it, mainly because both seem to be setting up interesting scenarios.

Rugal, have you read Lex Luthor: Man Of Steel?
Yup, I Liked it, you're able to see the world's perspective from Luthor, he CAN be nice but it gives you insight on his power of "persuasion" as well..
I thought Hope was with Mercy but it seems she became an ace in the hole here..
The artwork does the story justice.. In the three parter Earth-2 Superman Infinite Crisis Arc (not the actual IC but the official tie in that took place in the [then] 3 superbooks) The section where Superman conronts luthor (originally in Superman vol. 2 number 2) uses the same artwork (that arc uses multiple artists)
Although superb, I would not like DC to use the same format for all it's superheroes.. being rare is what makes it good.. if it becomes the standard, lateral creativity is lessened and everything becomes thinner..
again it's just for me but I prefer Ed Mcguiness style with somewhat lose storytelling over "Ultimate Universe" style political discussion of heroes with spandex... (which is an aletrnative, not a standard in which all comics should be based)
On to other things
Reading IC in one sitting made me think it's not THAT bad (meaning infinity crusade Bad) but it is still no match for Crisis Of Infinite Earths.. IMO No cross-over can touch it, not secret wars, not IG, not The End, not Zero Hour, Armageddon 2001.
I wish i could relate with all the x-talk here, but for the same reason DarkPhoenix is turned off by the DCU, the concept of Mutants turns me off of the X-universe, though I still love regular Marvels.
Speaking of Lex Luthor: Man of Steel
PS I dunno which is wierder Luthor making Time machines outta orange juices or Luthor F*Cking robots like in LLuthor:MOS

Has anyone read The Amazing Screw-On Head? A one-shot by Mike Mignola, won the 2003 Eisner for Best Humor Publication.
(Off-topic, guess who won Best New Series that year? It starts with an F and ends with an AAAABLESSS!!!!11111111.)
Anyway, it's awesome, blah blah blah, NEW THE AMAZING SCREW-ON HEAD ANIMATED SERIES PILOT!!!
BAM BAM MOTHAFUCKA
http://video.scifi.com/player.html?dlid=24379
Niles as Emperor Zombie is a stroke of genius. I guess David Hyde Pierce and Mike Mignola must be good buddies now then, since he was Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movie too.
Some recognizable names in there, but someone has to help me out identifying what part Patton Oswalt has in it.
I liked it better than the comic. And the pilot is almost identical to the one-shot, 'cept with some extra bits thrown in to stretch it to 23 minutes, so if you watch this, you no longer need to read the comic.
The style reminds me a lot of that Men In Black cartoon, but I'm amazed at how closely they manage to mimic Mike Mignola's art. Emperor Zombie looks like they copy and pasted right out of the comic, and everyone has that blocky type of structure, and you can even notice the occasional zig-zag shadow lines that are vintage Mignola.
Awesome how they kept so closely to the comic, even with the three evil old ladies that were like a throw in at the end of the comic. They even made sure to show that one was a cannibal! EVERYTHING was the same.
And adding that new smoking bit that wasn't in the comic - just great stuff. Fits right in.
LOOK AT ME I'M GUSHING IT'S SO AWESOME

I'm guessing that if this series ever sees the light of day, there'll probably be enough interest for Dark Horse to reprint it. Like how Marvel reprinted a collection of God Loves, Man Kills before X2 just because it was loosely based on it. I mean, yeah, it's Marvel and it was huge summer movie...but God Loves, Man Kills? Obscure.
I don't even remember how I got my copy. I think I just suddenly saw a single issue of it lying around in a shop downtown a few years ago, way after I had already heard about it, unsuccessfully tried to find it or download it, and given up. Lucky break.
Anyway, sucks to be you.

Think nothing of it, I LIVE TO GIVE
Posting that pilot made my month--It's fucking brilliant. My only problem with it is that it recreated Mignola's style so well that I now yearn for a Hellboy(or even a B.P.R.D) animated series.
EXACTLY what I was thinking. I don't know why it never occured to me that Mignola's art could have been so easily animated until I saw this.
This blew my mind though. I'm in withdrawal already, and it's not even out.
__________
how many issues of Batman: Longest Halloween were there?
What an odd question. I generally just assume that stuff like DKR or Long Halloween were single part, graffic novel type stories, because they've been out for so long and I haven't read them that recently.
But apparently Long Halloween was originally released in 13 issues. Which would have made sense to me if I had stopped to think.
___________
Criminal could be the next Sleeper - it's got a chance!
It's oozing with potential. It also has a ton of upside. Loads of athletism, quick hops, ability to finish in traffic, good range, killer instinct, good college stats...it's a lottery series, for sure.
__________
Oh Reginald? I DISAGREE!
Damn Adam, I didn't know you moved to England. You stole the wrong girl's anal virginity, got in trouble with the Sopranos.
I DONE TELL YOU, NIGGA
That lifestyle will be the death of you!
Oh, and speaking of anal virginities - let's just all agree that I won the Spider-Poll. I forgot to keep track after I went on an SRK hiatus...and then I just plain forgot about it.
But the count's pretty high, right? It's closer to 67 than the next highest, right?

Match-fixing like Juventus puts you back in Serie B. Even if you win, you still lose.
Swung by a comic shop today and picked up Heinberg/Dodson Wonder Woman #1. Not bad, but I thought the reveal on who was going to be Wonder Woman was going to be, more suprising than it was. I'll keep buying for now - if Heinberg can repeat his Young Avengers magic this book will be great.

First time posting here since I just started buying comics recently (Civil War). Anyone collecting all of the civil war tie ins?
My last trip to the comic shop I got:
Green Lantern Corps #1 and 2
Uncanny 475
X-men 188
Flash: fastest man alive 1
Wolverine 43
Skye Runner 1-3
I was kinda dissapointed with the color job in uncanny especially. Got highlights all over the place.
Tomorrow I'm gona pick up
CW 3
CW:X-Men 1
Uncanny 476
JLA #0(Ed Benes!)
I'm really hyped for Wildcats too since Jim Lee is doing the pencils.
Anyone know any good series with good art right now to check out? Especially if it's the beginning of a new story arc. Is the Marvel Spotlight Millar/McNiven worth checking out?

Kurt Buseik's Superman is one of the best today, could care less for Action Comics..
It's kinda Ironic that Buseik a Marvelite is one of the few who understands what Superman is REALLY about, not like Jurgens and Loeb who tired to make him a psychopathic superhero.
Yeah if I'm in an area that has a comic book shop, I'll try to pass by and look for stuff I missed or didn't notice.
Hell yes! Ninja Scroll comic book!
http://dccomics.com/comics/?cm=5954
Interview with Torres:
J. TORRES TALKS NINJA SCROLL
For a story that originally began as an animated movie in 1993, Ninja Scroll has had a healthy life.
One of the most popular anime outside of Japan, Ninja Scroll tells the tale of Jubei Kibagami, a samurai hero, just looking to keep to himself, but seemingly always drawn into conflict with men and monsters – namely, the “Eight Devils of Kimon,” a collection of mystical beasts that he is tasked with killing in the film. The original animated film spawned a 13 episode series in 2003, and a sequel to the original movie is reportedly in production.
In September, the property branches out to comics with a new series at DC’s Wildstorm imprint, written by J. (Teen Titans Go!) Torres, with interior art and covers by Michael Chang (and a variant cover to #1 by Jim Lee, debuting here). Wildstorm’s solicitation for issue #1 reads:
Jubei comes upon a nearly abandoned village on a foggy mountaintop. After drinking some tea from a kind old woman, he falls into a deep sleep and awakens to the greatest nightmare of all: the long-thought dead villains from the Ninja Scroll film — Mushizo, Benisato and Tessai — have returned and will stop at nothing to destroy Jubei!
We caught up with Torres to talk about the series and his part in it.
Newsarama: First off, what got you on the gig?
J. Torres: It was one of those right place, right time things. I was talking to Wildstorm about another possible project when they offered me Ninja Scroll. Although I knew my spring/summer was going to be busy enough without helping launch a new title, I was too big a fan of the anime to say no.
NRAMA: For those who don't know him, can you give us a brief character sketch of Jubei?
JT: His background is still somewhat of a mystery, but we hope to get into it a little bit in the series. What we do know about Jubei is that at one point in his past he got caught in the middle of a clan war; in fact, it appears as though this was part of a power struggle for who would rule all of Japan. And it seems that ever since then, Jubei's been fated to get caught in the middle of other people's battles, which is fine for him as long he somehow gets compensated or sees the "right" side win.
NRAMA: Where does this first issue find him, related to the anime?
JT: Well, without revealing too much I can say that the first arc takes place between the movie and the TV series. By the end of the movie, a lot of characters, including fan-favorites, had met their end... but some of them return in the comic book. Where do things progress from there? This is purely speculation on my part, but let's just say if they ever do another Ninja Scroll movie or TV series, I'd like for the comic book to lead into that. In the meantime, I'm going to try and bridge the first movie and TV series and show what Jubei was up to between those two adventures.
NRAMA: So what’s coming up in the series? Are you going to be playing with characters and situations fans would know from before, or are you going off, following the beat of your own drum?
JT: A little bit of both. The first arc involves the latter and in the second arc we introduce some new characters. One of the things I'm looking forward to is having fun writing the "samurai genre" but at the same time play with the archetypes and tropes as the anime does by bringing in elements of horror or the supernatural, plus some other unexpected surprises.

I picked up JLA #0 (would've gone for that dope variant cover, but it was 14.99), Flash #2, Robin 152 and 52 #11. Read JLA, it was pretty good but a little confusing to me. To anyone that's read it, are the "tomorrow" scenes things that have actually happened in the DC universe before? Or are they previews of things to come? I think I might actually start picking up this series.
Oh, and the new Superman/Batman Artist, Ethan Van Sciver is doing a signing at the shop I just left. Did I make a mistake by not staying to get stuff signed?
*SPOILERS*
Picked up JLA #0. Pretty much what you would expect from a #0 issue. A teaser for #1.
Also picked up Civil War 3. Great read. And another good cliffhanger to go out on. Millar's 616 Spidey is a lot better then the way Bendis writes him. Bendis always makes spidey seem like the unconfident loser with jokes that aren't even funny. Just too over the top.
Also we see Daredevil unmasked here. And I still don't know who it is. Anybody else recognize the face?

The Cassandra Cain version? I'm the original fan, bitch. Did you read Robin #150 yet? I got a whole five hundred word post ready to fly on that one, but I'm working myself back into this thread slowly.

Okay, I finally finished reading all of Batgirl last night, so I have some questions...
WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED??? My girl Cassandra just...left? And no I didn't read Robin 150 yet, but please don't tell me she just took over the League of Assassins in OYL. I mean...Just...AND WHO THE FUCK IS BATWOMAN?? Who the fuck is Kathy Kane...was that the same girl that Montoya was sweating in a random in 52? And when was she ever Batwoman in the first place??

I might start picking up JLA when it actually starts, but this 0 seemed too much like a preview for me to spend money on.
Civil War 3 was great. Cap's gettin' sneaky in his old age.
Spoilers:
Theres a variant cover with Thor on it that was on display in PLAIN VIEW behind the counter of the local comic shop. Marvel should know better than to put that big a spoiler on a variant cover the week the book first ships out. I knew he was coming back, but I didn't know it would be this soon. Also, I thought for DAMN sure he'd be on Cap's side.
End Spoiler
Pick up this weeks Cable & Deadpool, if you haven't yet. It's a great view at Cables perspective on the war, and DP is a riot, as usual. It really doesn't require much previous knowlege of the series either, so it's a great issue to jump in on.

Batwoman and Kathy Kane are newly introduced characters. Apparently, she has some connection in the past with Bruce Wayne (although she is a lesbian), since they're both high society. The "real" appearance of Batwoman is in this week's 52, though it does not provide any real answers.

katherine "kathy" kane is the batwoman no new news there dc even announced she was the batwoman. the batwoman is not really a new character, she was introduced during the whole fiasco with batman and robin being gay, because of the book seduction of the innocent. So to prove they werent gay DC decided to add batwoman, katherine kane, who had a purse instead of a belt, and batgirl, betty kane as romantic interests. after the 1st crisis both were retconned out of existence and betty kane became the flamebird.

Yeah I also thought Thor would side with Captain America. Ironman already has Sentry on his side and now with Thor, they have a huge advantage. I was hoping to see Thor go one on one with the Sentry. With Ironman getting Thor and Sentry, perhaps the only one who can turn the tide in Captain America's favor is a certain mean green fighting machine... who is located on another planet at the present time. Maybe the Hulk will make an appearance by the climax of the story.
Anyhow, the solicits also mentioned that there will be a betrayal in the next issue. My guess is that Susan and Johnny Storm will side with Captain America. Spidey probably won't change sides until #5 or #6 after he gets gang banged by numerous villains. The villains will probably attack MJ and aunt May and Spidey, and Captain America's team will jump in for the save. At that point Spidey realizes the error in his ways and jumps ship... ditching the red and gold suit for the classic red black and blue.

um, so i used to read comics back in the day (mid 90's). mostly spider-man, x-men, and sometimes some Image stuff...
i haven't touched a comic in 10 years. although, i REALLY want to start getting back into them. not super-uber-hardcore, but i've been skimming reviews of the new stuff, and it looks pretty good. Civil War sounds like that would be the place to start, but i'm not sure...
Any suggestions? used to be a huge spidey and x-men fan, but anything will do (keep it mainstream though)

Anything written by Ed Brubaker equates to instant win.
Xmen: Deadly Genesis
Uncanny Xmen(which he recently started writing)
Captain America Vol. 4(or 5?)
Daredevil(beginning from issue one of the Marvel Knights run by Kevin Smith which leads all the way through Bendis' incredible DD run and segways into Brubakers genious)
Those four titles above are based on my incredible biasness. But do pick them up. Excellent reads right there.
Also, some more books that don't necessarily have to be Marvel nor DC directly:
Invincible
Powers
Y The Last Man(highly recommended)

Read only a few funny books so far. Slight spoilers, nothing big -
JLU #0 made me laugh when they referenced back when Batman knocked out Guy Green Lantern with ONE PUNCH after he was talking a lot of smack to Batman. That has got to be one of the funniest moments in Super Hero comic book history.
Man you know that Thor is going to join with Captain America so everyone will get the big Thor vs. Sentry fight, and hopefully Thor will kick his ass. Civil War was gangsta , all of the heroes were throwing down. I dig the new take on secret identities, that was genious.
It seems like the X-Men can't be neutral like they came off to be in Civil War 3. In X-Men Civil War they have to jump in and take sides, but even here it seems the Mutants are split.
I'm going back to reading, I haven't even cracked the Halo graphic novel open yet but I'm saving that for last. Well maybe I'll read the Daily Bugle Civil War paper last, very good week for comics.
I don't think Spider-Man is going to change sides in Civil War. Because if he does no fan will side with Iron Man's side. Spidey'll just have a lot of problems - writers love giving Spider-Man problems, they can't stand to ever have him be happy for more than five minutes - he'll go through a whole period where he doubts what he did in the first place and ultimatly decide with great power comes great responsibility and living in Tony Stark's skyscraper so he did the right thing even though his life sucks now yadda yadda yadda...
I'm still down with pro registration since I'm a Spidey fan, but Thunderbolt's side, playing both sides has got to be the smartest. Even though it's still going to blow up in Zemo's face...

Anyone been reading Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man? A future Hobgoblin has shown up and he looks like a cross between the Green Goblin and Alien from AvP.
Currently reading Essential Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man. Jim Shooter has a knack for Spidey's dialogue. Speaking of Marvel's Essential Line, is X-Men worth picking up? If I recall, I read somewhere that they book wasn't all that hot until Chris Clermont and John Byrne came aboard.

I agree about most DC titles beeing peed, But Kurt Buseik's Superman run, Paul Dini's Detective, The new JLA's potential and Green Lantern not only pees but craps out those titles (except Daredevil) like how DX drops a crapload on Mcmahon and the spirit squad.

Mutants logistics/concept are always fucked up (way more fucked up that pre-C DC continuity), and Civil War is the best thing going right now sale-wise but it still rips heavilly from the JSA H.U.A.C. summit scenario in terms of substance.
comparing crap like IC to CW is like Comparing Byrne's Spider-man reboot to Byrne's Superman Reboot.. totally unfair :D

If you've read Frontline 3, he is already getting a lot of heat for that, i loved Osbourne's reaction since he has lost his one ace in the hole, personally I don't like this but this is at least a short term money maker to keep things interesting, anyway it seems like Marvel and DC nowadays fully underscores the full potential of the secret Identity. Spider-man is just peter parker in a costume.

I've always been a passionate hater of anything in the DC Universe, but I gotta say that Batman has to sneak up on people because he is just a human and he doesn't use incredibly amounts of technology that much. Unless it's convenient for the story of course. Ironman basically has his suite fighting Cap instead of being a man and doing it himself. He is a coward.
Tokoyama....you can't fault the Captain for what he did to Ironman. Remember this was after Ironman blatantly lied about three or four hundred people being trapped in a building. I really hope Ironman gets rocked at some point during this story line.

The Other? As in Aunt May and MJ in Ironman armor sneaking into Dr.Doom's castle... for time travel? That idea was on the Gwen Stacy sleeping with Norman Osborn tier of WTF.
I thought The Other could have been done a lot better. The story was written by 3 individuals rather than a cohesive unit and it didn't seem to flow. It seemed like for each issue, the writers were told to get from point A at the start of the issue to point B at the end. How they got from point A to point B was up to the individual writer it seemed and it didn't matter if it was consistent or not... as long as they ended up at point B. The writers didn't seem to know what the other writer was doing.

Yup. Marvel goofed up by revealing Daredevil's identity in the Director's cut of Civil War #1 last week.
I haven't read X-men Civil War... but is it true they are siding with Cap America? From Civil War 3, it looked like they were not going to join with either Cap A or Ironman and were gonna stay on the sidelines.

Man, seeing those panels in sequence like that reminds me how much C/DP's art took a turn for the worse after the old artist left ;_;. Still, I love how they always reference inconsequential past events (like those specific attacks, or Spidey getting tossed off the bridge in issue 24). C/DP is the best comic you aren't reading.
All X-Men titles take place within the same timeline, except for obvious ones that don't like Ultimate X-Men and X-Men fairy tales.
Usually Claremont will put out a comic that explains exactly when most of these events take place, the last time he did it was just after the events of Avengers Dissasemble, Wolverine working for Hydra, Phoenix Song and Colossus' return, each were months apart or so. Most likely someone else will do that at some point. But right now all of the comics are swept up in Civil War for the most part, except for Joss Whedon's run. So White Queen just has to start being good again so it can catch up to the other books. Unless of course his current story happens after everything else or something.
Wolverine Origins is taking place before Civil War right now, his own comic is happening during CW, and everything else is happening at the same time give or take, except for Whedon's stuff.

Whedon's stuff is the only thing that's really out of order. I'm not sure how they'll explain it in continuity because things ain't looking good for the X-folks in Astonishing. Of course if worse comes to worse they'll just say it didn't happen.
I really hope at some point they stop making all these mini-series to explain events and just let them happen in the normal books. Phoenix End song and Deadly Genesis really had no business being miniseries.
X-Men Civil War Side - Most of the X-men have been taken from the school by Domino and Shatterstar, who by the looks of things will be on Captain America's side. Bishop is going to go after them to bring them back. The original X-Men, Cyclops, Beast, Angel and Iceman are going to stop Bishop secretly. Looong story short they are all doing their own thing, they will just beat each other up and prolly won't get involved to much with the Civil War books to give Cap his assist.
X-Men Fairy Tales 3 never fails to entertain. This time it was about the whole Cyclops/Wolverine/Jean Grey relationship.
The Other - Overall The Other was kind of pointless, seeing as how Spider-Man already got his upgrade in Spectacular Spider-Man where he morphed into a Spider, came out of a coccoon and could shoot webs without web shooters. Plus no one uses any of his 'The Other' powers much anyway. Well his Wolverine claws come out sometimes, but right now it's all about the costume. He has yet to communicate with insects, the power he got from Spectacular Spider-Man's story. Him being able to see in the dark right now after The Other is pointless with his costume. His strength (he can lift 5 more tons) and Spider Sense upgrades, again, writers don't seem to care. So there are some good ideas between Spectacular and Other with his new powers, no one's really doing much with it. The Other was good for shock value and that's about it. Maybe after the costume people will play around with his new powers.
And I don't think the writers communicated too much. MJ got her hand broken in one issue, in the next comic it was fine. Later on Tony Stark explained that away that he did some super science crap to fix her arm up in a few days that he's used himself 100s of times. Which is fine but why didn't he use that treatment on Spider-Man in New Avengers when he got his arm broke in the Jailhouse break out? Oh well, guess Tony Stark is all about the hoes... looks like he used to bone Emma Frost on the regular too...
That's the thing about Spidey right now. Things are moving too fast. There should have been at least one issue dedicated to him getting over his ramifacations of the House of M events, you can't tell me something like that just gets swept under the rug with him saying "Oh nooos it can't be true" in a few pages in House of M and then every Spidey book moves onto something else. Looks like at least they are slowing things down with his unmasking story and most of his comics will focus on that.
Wolverine and Black Cat will be in a crossover called Claws. How much you want to bet she sleeps with the hairy midget? About a year ago there was a story where she gave Archangel (Warren) her phone number... so so far as of late she prolly boned him and she boned Puma a little while ago... you know it would be hilarious if she turns down Wolverine...

Both sides of the civil war front have some heavy hitters. I still cant believe thor is pro SPA. Alot of characters are showing feelings that I never thought they had before. I like this refreshing new look to things. Sentry could probably beat blackbolt if they ever meet.

okay, so I've decided to re-start collecting/reading comics, and Civil War is a good place to start (from what i've been reading on this thread).
I want to get ALL the Civil War issues, including any pre-Civil War issues, Civil War special issues, and any Civil War spin-off tie-ins.
Anyone care to list them? If not, I know of a pretty decent comic store (carries tons of back issues), but they're abour 45 minutes away from where I live.
On a side note, I was looking to get the Astonishing X-Men Vol. 1 HC Variant. It includes "Gifted" and "Dangerous". Sounds pretty good, only $25-30, and someone on here said Astonishing X-Men were pretty good. True?

I dunno if you should get ALL the civil war spinoff/tie-ins/prequels. There are a lot of them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_civil_war#Comics
I would definitely suggest getting the regular series. Amazing Spider-man is also good as well for civil war.
Daily Bugle Civil War Newspaper is a riot! There's an artical that blames Captain America joining the wrong side due to an after effect of the Super Soldier Serum messing with his head! Regarding Spider-Man's parents being spies, they say something along the lines of, "Yeah right! What's next? Cyclops' father a space pirate?" Too funny! Some stuff revealed in the paper -
Julia Spider-Woman is coming back! She's going to be in Ms. Marvel helping train the new regestered super heroes, going by the name of Arachne now. Jessica who? Julia's black and white costume was what inspired Spider-Man to give himself a black and white costume back in Secret Wars, which years later gave us Venom afterall. Hmm, wonder how Julia will get her powers back.
Black Cat will be signing up for Heroes for Hire, who will be on the pro registration side.
Hot damn pro-registration has all the hoes. Julia Spider-Woman, Black Cat, She Hulk, Wasp, Ms. Marvel, Tigra, what hoes anti-registration got? Young Avengers jail bait? I wish Million was more into comics 'cuz he'd be down with pro-registration I tell ya...

Dynamic Forces news, Heath Ledger may play Joker in Batman Begins 2 and DC'S 52 and Marvel Civil War talks at SDCC.
THE JOKER IS WHO?
The rumor mill has been churning for quite some time as to who will be taking on the roles to both Harvey Dent and the Joker in the sequel to BATMAN BEGINS. For the latter, names included Robin Williams and Mark Hamill but, recently, it seemed as though Australian actor Lachy Hulme was some sort of frontrunner (at least as far as rumors go). Now comes word from El Mayimbe and the guys at Latino Review that they know, from a "VERY TRUSTED SOURCE," who will play the Joker. And it is... Heath Ledger. I certainly hope not. I mean, if this is true, and El Mayimbe seems very confident that it is, I'd be willing to allow Ledger the opportunity to make me eat my words but I just don't see it.

SDCC DC NATION PANEL
Hosted by DCU Executive Editor Dan Didio, with 52 editor Stephen Wacker, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid, and Jann Jones as panelists, DC kicked off its San Diego Comic-Con programming with its “DC Nation” panel, discussing the ongoing 52 series, and other changes that have come about as a result of Infinite Crisis. The panel was packed, with standing room only – not to mention a rising temperature throughout the panel.
Sticking to his approach with the “DC Nation” panels, Didio quickly turned to the audience over to questions from the audience, asked in a “quid pro quo” fashion, that is, the cost to ask a panelist a question was being asked a question by the panelist.
Highlights from the panel included:
Asked about “The 52” and if they are coming, or already are in the DCU One Year Later, Didio commented that readers have been reading about “the 52” all along, and left it at that.
Prompted by a question, Wacker said that Steel’s story in 52 is far from over, and Steel fans will love the rest of the series, as the character is, “the heart of the story.”
Didio noted that editorial at DC has been very careful not to show any of the main characters from 52 in any of the other DCU books set One Year Later, for the main reason of not spoiling the story – or the fate of the characters.
When a fan explained that his enjoyment of 52 was enhanced because he reads the series daily, taking a week to ready each issue, one day’s worth of story at a time, the panel applauded him, with Wacker saying that he was their biggest fan. Waid noted that at a meeting of the 52 writers held Wednesday, a discussion came up as to whether or not the “weeks” in the series line up Wednesday-Wednesday or Sunday-Sunday. The fan noted that as he read them, they line up Wednesday-Wednesday.
Asked about the consensus approach to writing the series, Rucka and Wacker explained that there were no out and out “vetos” of other writers’ work, due to the fact that the project is fully a collaborative endeavor, and by the time story elements reach the stage of inclusion into the story, they’ve been through the hands of all the writers, so there’s only very rarely a problem with approvals.
Given that readers have seen Robin and Wonder Girl struggling through the death of Superboy, an audience member asked when Superman’s reaction to Superboy’s death will be shown. While Didio said that he felt the upcoming team on Action Comics will touch upon Superman’s reaction to the death, Rucka noted that, even though Clark Kent has been shown in 52 in the weeks after Conner Kent’s death – apparently not in mourning, not every minute of every day has been shown. The writer explained that, given the larger picture, Clark has only been shown for maybe an hour of time in all of 52, saying that while Superman may be in mourning for Conner, it’s just not being shown in the scenes of 52.
Rucka said that he has spoken with Wacker about the possibility of Renee Montoya meeting up with her former partner, Crispus Allen, now the Spectre’s mortal host. The writer noted that he had no idea of where it would appear or how it would work.
“It would be a lot harder for them to meet now that she’s Supernova,” Wacker joked.
Speaking of the Spectre, Didio asked an audience member, dressed as the Spectre, why he chose to dress that way today, to which the Spectre replied (to the laughter of the room) that he was supposed to come as Mr. Terrific, but that costume cost too much.
Asked if in the DCU, Dead means Dead, specifically in regards to Superboy, Didio said that Conner Kent, Superboy is dead – as dead as Sue Dibny, Max Lord, or Ted Kord. Explaining the rationale behind the decision, Didio said that, as it stands, Superboy’s death mattered – allowing stories to be built upon it, and character development to come from it.
Listening to Didio, Rucka interjected, “That doesn’t mean that the Cult of Conner isn’t on to something…”
Following up with the second half of the two-part question about Superboys, Didio said that, in regards to Superboy Prime, and whether or not he would ever escape his prison, they had gone to a lot of trouble to create a powerful villain for the DCU, and that it wouldn’t make sense not to use him again.
When an audience member replied (when asked) that he’d like to see any characters created after 1980 die, Waid said, laughing, “Then month nine is the month for you.”
Speaking of Ralph Dibny’s journey in seeking the resurrection of his dead wife, Waid said that the trip and explorations will take Ralph through the more magical side of the DCU, which will ultimately show him the power – and the cost of magic.
Both Rucka and Waid agreed that working on 52 has changed how they approach their other writing assignments, with Rucka noting that he’s more likely to call Geoff Johns or Waid for occasional help rather than allow himself to sit and be stymied by a scene he was having trouble with. Waid joked that for him, he now writes five pages of Legion of Super-Heroes,” and when Wacker calls looking for the next five, Waid tells him that he thought Geoff was going to write those.
Talking about the “Big Three” of the DCU – Didio said that everything in the DCU works better when Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are working well as books, which has fueled much of the effort into getting the characters’ respective series the best they can be.
Asked when DC will be bringing back the “real” Aquaman, Didio fired back, “Who says he’s gone?”
Didio was seemingly taken off guard by a question from a younger audience member who wondered if DC was going to launch an All-Star Wonder Woman series. “Tell you what,” Didio said. “Let me talk it over with some guys, and I’ll get back to you on Saturday.”
Both Wacker and Waid said that there will be more Green Lantern coming up in 52, and, in regards to seeing the Corps in the series, Wacker joked, “If only we had a whole large segment of that story that took place in outer space…”
When an audience member dressed as Batman asked about the origin of Batman, Rucka said, “You know what, world’s greatest detective? Wait for clues…” adding that the answers will be coming.
Continuing around the questionees asking the questioners, Waid asked a female audience member dressed as Zatanna, “Llac em?”
Asked what DC is doing to bring in new readers, Didio’s answer was simple, “WE tell good stories,” which was his same answer to the question of how DC is looking to bring kids to comics. When confronted with the comment that the price of comics is keeping kids away from them, Didio agreed, saying that he knows that the cover price of comics has become a major issue for many readers in regards to collecting a series or even picking up an occasional issue of a new series.
Although, both Didio and Rucka countered the quesitoners’ suggestion that new readers need single-shot stories, polling the readers, and noting that many readers, as well as themselves, came to comics that were midstream in storylines, and because of the serial nature of the story, hooked them.
Moving to the lighting round of quick questions with quicker answers:
Is Ralph Dibny done with Gingold for good? “NO.” – Waid.
Favorite character in 52? “Grant Morrison.” Didio.
Will Harvey Dent encounter Renee Montoya in 52? “Undecided.” – Rucka.
Will DC’s war characters show up in 52? “Yes.” Wacker.
Will the comic book version of Superman have a baby? “Pass.” Rucka.
Has the current Superman ever been a costumed Superboy? “Not saying.” Didio.
Why is Nightwing competent in Outsiders, but incompetent in his own series? “It will be resolved.” Didio.
When will Seven Soldiers of Victory #1 come out? October.
Will DC release a hardcover collection of 52? “You wouldn’t be able to lift it.” Waid.
One more note of interest to 52 readers – during the Brian Bolland Spotlight panel following “DC Nation,” the acclaimed artist said that, in addition to the Joker origin story, he’s also illustrating a Zatanna origin story that will appear in the back of 52 in the coming months.

SDCC MARVEL UNIVERSE PANEL
Marvel kicked its Comic-Con weekend off in earnest with their Civil War panel.
Hosted by Joe Quesada, panelists included Paul Jenkins, J Michael Straczynski, Brian Reed (Ms. Marvel), David Hine, Charlie and Daniel Knauf, and Marvel’s Jim McCann.
The panel began with the newest trailer for Civil War, while the Marvel contingent arrived.
Quesada then went through Marvel's slide presentation, highlighting the most recent issues and interiors to Civil War #3 (below), spotlighting the return of Thor in the issue's final page, to the applause of the crowd.
The from the main book, Quesada moved on to the tie-in titles, giving writers who had titles to talk about their books...
In regards to Amazing Spider-Man, Straczynski said that as the story progresses, Peter Parker will begin to seriously realize that he may have joined the wrong side.
Showing the slide for the upcoming issue of New Avengers with Iron Man, McCann noted, "If you think Iron Man is being a jerk right now, just wait..."
In speaking of the Fantastic Four, and the upcoming issue spotlighting Ben Grimm, JMS said that the Thing is horribly conflicted by the Registration Act, and may, in the end, leave the country for France. "I really like the idea of Ben Grimm wearing a beret, sipping coffee in Paris," the writer said.
[note: the panel room is at full capacity – and no more fans are being allowed in.]
Speaking about Ms. Marvel, Reed said that she has to come to terms with the fact that an ex-Avenger is against the Act, and she supports it. As long time readers know, Reed said, Ms. Marvel was opposed to something like this not too long ago. Reed continued that Ms. Marvel's role in the new world order will be training young super-heroes, one of whom will include Arana, "And I swear by God," Reed said, "I will make popular."
Marc Guggenheim and Frank Cho joined the panel.
Talking about Wolverine's Civil War tie-in issues, Guggenheim explained that Logan is focused on tracking down Nitro, who kicked off the whole mess, but will find that the conspiracy behind the explosion in Stamford is a little more complicated than he would have expected, and will bring him into battle with villains he's never met before, as well as another character he's fought only once, but wasn't in his right mind when he did.
Guggenheim also said that Damage Control will be appearing in his run on Wolverine, and will be seen in a completely different light than previously shown.
"We have a number of major things coming up in Front Line," Paul Jenkins said. "And as many of you have noted, we did not kill Speedball."
[applause from the crowd]
"I mean to say, we did not kill Speedball yet,” responded Jenkins.
Jenkins said that the "Civil War: Sleeper Cell" storyline that was just shown in issue #3, will tell the story of Atlantean sleeper agents. "As you can imagine, Namor is not too happy about the whole situation going on," said Jenkins.
Speaking about Civil War: X-Men, Hine said that the mutants decide that they've finally had enough. "It's an opportunity to bring back a lot of popular characters," Hine joked, "Like Micromax, and Sabra, and some brand new Sentinels."
"Basically, the X-Men have been sitting on the sidelines until now,” Hine continued, getting series. “This is where they finally make up their minds as to which side they're on. There will be a split between them, with Bishop on the one hand, and the original X-Men on the other side."
"I don't think anybody will quite figure it out," Quesada said in regards to which side the Punisher will play in Civil War, noting that he enjoys the yin-yang aspect between the Punisher and Captain America, explaining that they're essentially the same type of man, but a product of two different times.
Concluding the slide show, and after a few teaser slides, Quesada made the official announcement about the Mighty Avengers, the second Avengers book to go along with New Avengers, by Brian Bendis and Frank Cho.
"It's going to be crazy action," Cho said, “With a lot of chicks!"
Quesada then opened the panel to questions...
"Have you been in prison or something?" Quesada asked jokingly to a fan who said he just learned about Civil War a couple of months ago.
"I agree that Speedball is getting a rough deal now," Jenkins said when asked how She-Hulk could overlook his Constitutional Rights being trampled as shown in Front Line. "And then it's getting rougher, and then we kill him. Oh - was that a spoiler?" he added with a laugh.
Jenkins went on the explain how Speedball is the national and media scapegoat for everything that happened in Stamford.
As the panel progressed, Mark Millar "appeared" via a cell phone conversation with a man named Mike.
Asked about the Thor project he was supposed to do with Greg Land, Millar said, "Oh sh*t, I knew there was something I forgot to do."
As to why he pitted Captain America against Iron Man rather than mutants against heroes in the Civil War, Millar said the X-Men have been used so much over the last few years, that he felt he would give them a break, so he didn't even want to write them into the story that much from the start.
Ultimates will be done by the end of this year, Millar said, going a little off-topic, adding that he personally guarantees it, and will be at SDCC next year if it's not done, and people can punch him in the stomach.
Getting back on topic (sort of), asked how much of Civil War comes from the current news, Millar said that he doesn't watch television, and can barely read and write. "Please continue buying Civil War, at the expense of all the low-selling books, especially Brian Vaughan's books," Millar concluded.
Jim McCann said that the collections of Civil War won't be seen before February or March of 2007, and plans for hardcover or softcover are still being discussed.
"We're wondering the same thing," Quesada said when asked where the super-villains are at during Civil War. "Read Front Line," he said.
Asked why Ben Grimm is thinking leaving the U.S., JMS explained that while he's a patriot, he cannot support what his country is doing. In the main series and in Fantastic Four, Straczynski noted, Grimm's been going back and forth for some time, but will apparently be making up his mind soon in Fantastic Four.
A late addition to the panel, Jeph Loeb showed up toward the program’s final half hour...
Quesada pointed out the cover to Wolverine: Origins #3 alternate cover by Simone Bianchi, which has both Loeb and Bianchi's names in the tiles behind Wolverine - it was Simone's way, Loeb said, of indicating that the two would be taking over Wolverine with issue #50
"There was a story that I had always wanted to tell, and Joe knew about it, that deals with the relationship between Logan and Sabretooth,” said Loeb.
As Loeb explained to Newsarama, he's always been bothered by the unresolved relationship between Wolverine and Sabretooth, and is looking to answer the questions that exist between the two.
The six part arc will explore Logan and Sabretooth's relationship both in the present day and previously. "It's pretty much balls to the wall, for those of you who speak French," Loeb said.
Loeb added that the arc has a surprise at the end, and the nature of which may lead the two creators to do another arc after their first.
Along with Loeb, Bianchi (who just flew in from Italy) joined the panel, noting, "This is my first panel in English, and I'm going to f**k it up, big time." but expressed his enthusiasm for working on the series.
Asked about Ghost Rider and Moon Knight and their places in Civil War, Quesada said that given that the titles are new launches, they Civil War won't touch them as much, but "the Civil War will come to Moon Knight in the coming months."
If you’ve been to enough convention panels, you’ll start to recognize your “standard” questions, and answering the old chestnut, Quesada again stated unequivocally that the Ultimate Universe will not be replacing the Marvel Universe, and that Civil War, as one audience member suggested, is not a way to totally destroy the Marvel Universe as a place filled with heroes.
"All the Marvel characters," Quesada said, "Come from the real world. The whole of the Marvel Age of Marvel characters come from the Cold War, and involve people getting their powers from nuclear power and accidents." Quesada explained that while fans may think Civil War is hitting too close to a "realistic" nature now, the original Marvel heroes were all about people becoming heroes through government-sponsored programs - and those same powers and accidents were also responsible for creating horrific villains that can tear the country apart.
Asked if Marvel will ever "backtrack" and erase the knowledge of Peter Parker revealing his identity (perhaps via the use of the Scarlet Witch), Quesada said that they have plans for Wanda Maximoff, but they do not include a "reset" of proportions on a universal scale.
"There's a very good reason as to why Thor took a side," Quesada said when asked why Thor apparently is fighting on the Pro-Registration side in Civil War #3.
"He's either dead...or in my pants" Quesada answered when asked where Hawkeye is.

It's like X-Men Legends. The character designs are Ultimate based, but it takes place in the 616 universe.
Why for?

Why for?
Beats me. Legends 2 was one of the best superhero games I've ever played though, and I expect the same from Ultimate Alliance.

I think it is because they thought the ultimate design is more appealing than the plain 616. I generally like the Ultimate character desing and drawings, but 616 aint bad either. To sum it all up marketing and more money.

Millar is the fucking truth.

In the reference to the ultimates, did he mean that it would be done this year and starting up again next year or does he mean the whole ultimate titles will be done and its over GGPO? If its the later then I want to know if we have to wait in line to punnch him or just anytime anywhere.

I'd honestly be happy if they stopped their ultimate lines. Then maybe they could put some of their good writers and artist on the existing books that got them where they are instead of rehashes.

just picked up the trade paperback "Kingdom Come". holy lord is it amazing.
anyway, picked up a bunch of early Civil War stuff (not everything, but a majority). REALLY good stuff. the issue where Cap stands his ground when his commanding SHEILD officer tells him to lead the registration initiative... golden.
I'm really glad to be back into comics. and for those who don't know, the $.50 Daily Bugle Civil War thing has a complete list of ALL Civil War related comics. tie-ins, leading up to, etc... too good..

Ultimate Alliance will also have alternate costumes. In fact, according to the developers, the new costumes will effect abilities and stats of characters. I wonder if we'll get Iron Spidey...

You could try asking a bookstore about the Sin City Hardcover box sets. I still see them at Borders. Maybe a Barnes & Noble or Borders near you can special order them if they don't have them in stock. If you're looking for the old Sin City hardcovers, those may be hard to find because they're out of print. For those, I guess all you can do is try eBay or second hand book stores. But the new HCs are nicer than the old ones. They are just a lot more expensive.

I haven't been able to find all the Bru books to satisfy my thirst. For some reason, I can't find An Accidental Death or The Fall. It's also hard to find cheap lots of his Deadenders comics. I feel like DC didn't give Bru enough respect. That's why he's now at Marvel, dominating and writing the best superhero comics around.............. And CRIMINAL

Ya your right on that but in away marvel did the same for morrison and I guess both companies decided to make a trade.:bgrin:
Still though Bru>Morrison, even though Morrison's New X-men and AS sups has been fun, Bru's books are like an addicting drug.
