first issue of wolverine i read was weird. he was in south america or something and there was some kind of giant chemical blob that he fought alongside some spanish chick in a costume. also some cybernetic old guy going after wolverine. #24 maybe? something like that...

Sentinels made me love the xmen, Xmen made me love marvel....
I tried to get into d/c but I was use to the "more real" life issue's of the Xmen...

I got into comics because of my cousin - I'd use to go over to his house when I was really young and just read all of his old comics. He's pretty hardcore, been collecting for a long time.
He used to pin up all these comics on his wall (most were X-books), and so I have a lot of classic X-covers from the 1980's drilled into my brain. Wolverine #1 with him smiling and doing the finger taunt, the other cover where he's standing on top of fifty dead ninjas, that one I think Ronin's talking about with Sabretooth on top of him about to bash his face in with a wooden club...that Wolvie vs. Shiva issue where it looks like it's slashed open...comics were so cool.
It's a bit tougher to imagine today, but back then...Wolverine was the baddest motherfucker of all time. I don't think the drop was as big, but looking at Michael Jackson now...and it's hard to imagine that he was like the greatest entertainer in the world for a solid couple of years. Wolverine was the fucking shit.
The first comic books I ever read were from the Claremont/Byrne Uncanny X-Men run (aka The Greatest Run In Comics Of All Time). He taught me well.
I don't know if it was from the Claremont/Byrne run, but the first issue I can actually remember reading was X-Men - with the Giant Sized roster (Colossus, Storm, Banshee) and they were running around in the Savage Land fighting Sauron.
I also remember that Dark Phoenix Saga issue after the X-Men got beat by the Hellfire Club and only Wolverine was left, futher cementing his position as Top Bad Ass Motherfucker.
I was on and off comics for a while, and at that time all I knew were the X-Men. And the cosmic Marvel guys, which I really loved for some reason. Thanos and the Infinity stories, Infinity Watch...and a lot of that Ron Lim run on Silver Surfer is a big part of my early comic book memory. Silver Surfer, Nova, Firelord, Terrax, Gabriel the Air Walker, Morg...fun stuff.
I started getting more interested again with the Claremont/Jim Lee on X-Men #1 (costume redesigns, Omega Red, that wicked slutted up Psylocke/Wolverine/Jubilee unit, Blue Team/Gold Team), but I dropped out again a bit after Onslaught/Heroes Reborn around the time when Joe Mad was on X-Men. I just ran out of interest reading that Operation Zero Tolerence thing. I still don't know what happened. So Bastion was like Nimrod or something right? I don't even care.
I bought the odd issue here and there to read if the cover looked cool, but since I had access to my cousin's stuff, I didn't really seriously consider regularly buying my onw.
And then in junior high or highschool (I forget how old I am) I just randomly decided one day to start seriously collecting comics as a hobby by buying a long box and picking a monthly or two and just running with it. I think I had recently read DKR again for the first time in years or something, so I naturally picked Batman first.
So the first comic I've ever officially owned - as part of my COLLECTION, and not just as a miscellaneous bathroom reading issue - was Batman #595. Ed Brubaker and Scott McDaniel. Which actually isn't that old of a comic. Like you can still do Google searches and find reviews of it.
And then I started to get more and more interested since I started to have (just a little bit of) money to spend on my own comics, I added more titles...and then things got completely out of control, and now I'm here.
Most of the things I know about comics and all the nerd knowledge I've accumulated in my head are from the last five or six years, I think.
This feels way too much like an AA meeting or a Porn-aholics help group or something.

I'm gone for like two days at this is what happens? Damn. Ronin and Taichi going at it for like two pages. Interesting stuff.
But I've got to say one last thing on Taichi referring to The Long Halloween and Dark Victory's artwork: Ass? You're crazy. Thats some of the best Batman artwork in recent memory. Its unique for the storyline that it was done for.
On to other things:
Infinite Crisis #6: All of you read it. He died. But of course Teen Titans #34 and obvious speculation spoiled it. So it didn't have that much of an impact on me. ALTHOUGH, I'm not really a fan of the new Titans team. Although, the last page of TT#34 left me in awe and is making me wonder what the fuck is going to happen.
Batman and the Monster Men #6: Its Matt Wagner. It's always gonna be good. Batman and the Mad Monk is the next story.
OK.....Anybody here reading the Superman 1 Year Later stuff? Because part 2 of 'Up, Up and Away' was pretty damn good when you see the last page.
And I'm also curious as to why the JSA did not go through any sort of changes post-Infinite Crisis.

I hear that, man. I hear that. We just took a couple day break from the Net and suddenly I've spent more time catching up on the latests posts than actually reading the comics I bought this week. Which probably isn't a surprise, seeing as how I bought nothing other than the EX MAAAAAAAAAACHINA!!!11 TPB, which I had already read in issue form.
And not liking Tim Sale's art?! I can dig it if a man don't like Judd Winick's writing, but not liking Tim Sale's art is a crime against humanity!!

Clinty- Shengy already told you the two Alan Moore WildC.A.T.s trades. (Thanks for covering my ass, Shengy. In more ways than one. I can't ride my bike.) Now you have to read those two, and then read all of Joe Casey's Wildcats Volume 2 and Wildcats Version 3.0. Then, and only then, will you realize just why it is that I cry myself to sleep every night, thinking of how tragic it is that Casey was never able to finish his 40 chapter Version 3.0 saga... And the reason Wildcats Version 3.0 got cancelled was because all you motherfuckers on shoryuken were too busy arguing about Marvel Vs DC!!!!! I kid, I kid. Sorta.
---
Speaking of cancelled books, I heard Solo got cancelled. That kinda pisses me off, because it was the one DC book I was really, REALLY into. I think at least one or two more issues are still slated to come out (Damion Scott, I think, and maybe Sergio Aragones... I don't remember). Solo was the closest thing to an indie book published by either DC or Marvel, and now it's gone... I would rant a bit about the poor literary taste of hardcore comic book fanboys, but I'm a bit too lazy right now. Plus I'd probably just be rehashing an old post or something.
But damn it! They just announced the Eisner nominees several days ago, and Solo had at least two or three nominations. It was like the only DC (non WildStorm/non Vertigo) book to get an Eisner nod (other than Absolute Watchmen) so of COURSE it has to get cancelled. DC should just ask AOL/Time Warner for a few extra bucks so they can afford to keep Solo alive.
---
A little bit later, when I have less laziness, I'd like to proudly elaborate on how I came to know The Joy Of Comics. But it's Friday night now and I've already proven I don't have a life as it is by making a post.

I had to make a clean break, that's all there is to it, even I can tell when my back's against a wall, and Ronin defeated me with pure logic......
suffice it to say, I haven't read Long Halloween in a while, and my only recent exposure to Tim Sale's work, is the toys based on Long Halloween.....
the toys look like ass, but you're right, Long Halloween's art is pretty slick......

Moore/Charest (although he didnt do it completely and others had to fill in) did "Homecoming" and "Gang War"
Thanks Sheng.
And screw you, Zephy. You weren't there when I most needed you - HOW CAN I TRUST YOU EVER AGAIN? I don't want to deal with you anymore - I have a new lover now.
I know Casey's stuff was good too though, and that's something I'm going to check out too as soon as I get my dirty mitts on those two first.

I'm surprised DC has any money trouble at all.
Ah dammit, that's not good news. I was waiting for a trade on that one...I guess I'm another reason they got cancelled since I didn't support the monthly sales. Now I just hope there's going to be a trade.

On a random lark the other day...I just suddenly decided to buy a trade of The Filth by Grant Morrison. It was a bit cheaper too.
I'm like three issues in right now...and I feel like I'm fucking tripping on acid, man. This book is...what the fuck is going on with this book!?!
I knew Grant Morrison was out there, but I didn't know that much.
I also have the read The Invisibles sometime. There's a lot of older classics I haven't been able to check out yet.

After almost a month, the university library finally found what I was looking for: Watchmen.
Too bad I won't have time to read in between reading the newly renewed Wonder Woman: The Complete History, which is rather interesting so far and explains a lot of things, and studying for two different midterms this week.
Yay.
Anyway, speaking of said book, I think I'll reproduce the most interesting part that I've heard thus far, if only because it's rather bizarre:
"Frankly, Wonder Woman is psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who should, I believe, rule the world. There isn't love enough in the male organism to run this planet peacefully. Woman's body contains twice as many love generating organs and endocrine mechanisms as the male. What woman lacks is the dominance of self assertive power to put over and enforce her love desires. I have given Wonder Woman this dominant force but have kept her loving, tender, maternal and feminine in every other way. Her bracelets, with which she repels bullets and other murderous weapons, represent the Amazon Princess' submission to Aphrodite, Godddess of Love and Beauty. Her magic lasso, which compels anyone bound by it to obey Wonder Woman and which was given to her by Aphrodite herself, represents woman's love charm and allure by which she complets men and women to do her bidding."
Suffering Sappho! So far, the in first 13 or so pages, I've already seen where most of the now egregious sapphic and bondage tendencies come--I guess it was like the YMCA thing, only it began in the 1940s.
On that note, her lasso now makes sense, since the person that created her--her name was apparently supposed to be "Suprema the Wonder Woman" at first--was also the same person that invented the lie detector test.
Heh.
It's been interesting so far.
(If only explanations for her bracelets or her costume thus far were as satisfactory.)

Nemy- I forget what Vertigo books you've already read, but you also gotta check out Y: The Last MAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!1, SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANDMAN!!!11, Peter Milligan's Human TAAAAAAARGET!!!!1, SAAAAAAAANDMAN Mystery Theatre!!!11, Preacher, and WE3. The Invisibles and Transmetropolitan are also considered classics, but I've only read random volumes that I found at my local library.
There's also one trade of SHAAAAAAAAADE The Changing Man!!!!11, but I guess it didn't sell very well so they never published any subsequent volumes. However, SHAAAAAAADE!!1 lasted 70 issues and it's worth tracking down any random issues you can. I recommend issue 39- it's one of my single favorite comic books of all time. Milligan wrote SHAAAAADE!!1, and Chris Bachalo (pre-Generation X) did a lot of scrumptiously mind-twisting art in a style that is quite different from what he does today. Reading from the start of SHAAAADE!!1, it's pretty fascinating how Bachalo's style evolved over the years. Thank God he's not drawing any Claremont comics anymore. I wonder what he's doing?

Yeah, collecting the issues of Solo that have been released would be really nice. The anthology is an underestimated comics format, but recent years have shown that there's plenty of life left in them. I mean, with Alan Moore's Tomorrow Stories, Dark Horse's The Amazing Adventures of the Escapist, the two volumes of Flight from Image, and now Solo- it's a great use of comics. Although I do kinda see why people generally don't go for anthologies- some people think the stories are too short and aren't worth the price.
I remember this one time I showed my roommate some of my Adrian Tomine and Derek Kirk Kim books, and he read them but said that he didn't think they were that good. I was kind of hurt by his comments because he just dismissed two of my favorite books and creators as non-substantial. "I need something... more!" were his exact words, I think. I can see where that train of thought comes from, 'cause almost every 6-8 page backup story in most comics suck ass. And sometimes it just feels good to read something that takes an hour. I think reading short comics stories requires a different approach in order to enjoy and appreciate them.
Another thing about anthology books is that the stories themselves tend to be hit-or-miss, and who wants to buy something that's only half good? But books like Solo, Tomorrow Stories, and those others I mentioned, they are pretty consistent. Vertigo did some anthology miniseries back in the late '90s like Gangland and Heartthrob, and those were really impressive. Those are worth tracking down.
---
It does suck that Solo got cancelled. All my favorite comics get cancelled sooner or later. Wildcats Version 3.0 (which, I must reiterate, is so good that it will literally change your thinking about superheroes), Human Target, X-Statix, Automatic Kafka, The Intimates, and now Solo... Well, all right, I guess all those books I mentioned other than Solo were all either Joe Casey or Peter Milligan... But those two guys are just too good for the uncouth masses, I guess. I am totally a Casey Whore and a Milligan Whore. I'm just lucky Sleeper, Runaways, and She-Hulk had second chances thanks to the trades.

Funny that you mention The Filth. I was just thinking about it a couple hours ago. I've read it twice all the way through (and the last time I read it was probably a year ago at least) and I still barely understand even half of it. All I know is that I liked it, and I liked it a lot. It helps that the artwork is so good- it's so detailed, but it hardly ever looks cluttered like a lot of Top Cow/Image-type stuff. I once wrote an essay about The Filth (it was part of some bet between my school friend and our friend who worked at the comic shop we used to go to when we were in school. But I don't think my essay was insightful in the least and I shouldn't have mentioned it).
Anyway, when you're done reading it, I would enjoy a discussion of its perversity. I really enjoyed the part when the giant mutated pornstar sperms went on a rampage and killed a buncha helpless women. That was so bizarre I couldn't stop laughing. At the mention of giant mutant pornstar sperm, I'm sure Nemy and all the rest will track down The Filth just to see what I'm talking about.

I went to APE this weekend. It was pretty cool, although my friends who were gonna go with me bailed. It was great to soak up the atmosphere. I bought a couple of books I found for cheap: Oni's The Long Haul by Antony Johnston (whenever I see his name, I think of that band, Antony and the Johnsons) and Eduardo Barreto; D.R. & Quinch by Alan Moore and Alan Davis (it was one of their early '80s black and white comics for 2000AD in the UK); and 2 Sisters by Matt Kindt (Top Shelf). I also got a couple of comics from a few local creators who were hardcore and passionate enough to self-publish their own comics. Didn't really spend too much money but it was fun to check out all the weird comics people came up with.

notes from weekend reading:
Seven Soldiers vol. 1 tpb - wow, great stuff. I have been waiting for the tpb's to read this and i am enjoying it immenseley. Klarion is probably my favorite so far but they are all good reads. the art is also extremely solid for each of the first 4 miniseries. In a strange way this whole thing reminds me of the dark horse "Comics Greatest World" launch (which yes, i was a fan of...), especially Manhatten Guardian.
Incredible Hulk: Prelude to Planet Hulk tpb - first Hulk comic i have read in probably 10 years and the first comics by Daniel Way I have read. I blew through these 4 issues in probably 20 minutes (not a lot of dialogue). There was some cool stuff and the covers are hilarious but it left me a bit underwhelmed.
Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos - what a book. I was a big surfer collector during this time period and this brings it all back. plus the inclusion of Thanos Quest which is one of the best villain stories ever. I wish they would collect the key issues between surfer 50-75
JLA: Earth 2 - I didnt really get this one. It was a solid read, a very straight forward story, nice art but nothing spectacular...i dunno. What really bugged me was I didnt understand why the JLA were acting like they had never met the crime syndicate before and vice versa? Is this supposed to be an elseworlds tale? these guys have fought all of the time.

Haha, yeah, only Grant Morrison would come up with the idea of bioengineered sperms as weapons of mass destruction. Although maybe Warren Ellis could have come up that idea- Desolation Jones is all about vintage Hitler Porn, so I suppose their depravity knows no boundaries.
---
Psycho- I think the JLA: Earth-2 graphic novel is the first meeting between the JLA and CSA in the current continuity. At least, that's the impression I was under. I know they met pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths, so it seems sensible that the graphic novel is their first encounter, and then Kurt Busiek used the CSA again when he wrote JLA a year or two back.
And yeah, Seven Soldiers kicks all sorts of ass. I got the first two trades, and all of those stories are great. I was kinda skeptical about the idea of publishing all the different minis in chronological order together, but it's actually worked out well. Didn't feel disjointed, and all of the artists in the first two volumes are so awesome. I'm a total Cameron Stewart whore, though, so I pretty much love anything he draws. That Ryan Sook dude on Zatanna is pretty good, too; I wonder what's he doing these days? Frazier Irving (Klarion) is doing the Iron Man: The Inevitable miniseries with Joe Casey, which is also pretty dang good.
And that Silver Surfer: Rebirth Of Thanos book looked cool. Those were the comics that I loved when I was a kid, so I kind of want it just out of sentimental reasons. I flipped through it at the store and I remember those Surfer issues. I never read the Thanos Quest comics but the book is kind of expensive, so I didn't get it. I wish Marvel would do an Essential Silver Surfer that collects those late '80s/'90s Starlin/Ron Marz/Ron Lim stuff. I have a feeling Ron Lim's drawings of high intensity power blasts will still look pretty damn intense even in black and white.

I've read the Zatanna and Mr. Miracle Seven Soldier stories, and I thought they weren't bad. If the rest are good, I'll probably check out the trades then. I probably need some relatively normal Grant Morrison stuff to balance me out right now.
Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos - what a book. I was a big surfer collector during this time period and this brings it all back. plus the inclusion of Thanos Quest which is one of the best villain stories ever. I wish they would collect the key issues between surfer 50-75
Ah, cool. I didn't even hear about that one. Gotta check it out.
Thanos Quest was indeed one of the greatest stories of my young life, and is one of the big reasons that Thanos has earned a perpetual, untouchable spot on my Oh Shit He's Pimp List. The whole thing's just like Thanos collecting all the Infinity Gems by travelling around the universe and going "LOL PREP TIME BEEYOTCH SUCK IT" and just yanking the gems.
I have no idea how it reads now that I've grown up a bit, but it's still gotta be a solid story. I mean...Ron Lim + Thanos = can't lose.
...'cept Thanos' monthly, which did lose. Why isn't Ron Lim drawing Annihilation books!?! What, he's got something better to do?
I have a feeling Ron Lim's drawings of high intensity power blasts will still look pretty damn intense even in black and white.
Ah shit, ya baited me again.
Honestly, Ron Lim - especially in an era before fancy schmancy computer colouring and slick LIQUID! type colours - is the best power blast/energy beam drawer in the history of comic books.
I remember reading those Silver Surfer comics early on, and all the Ron Lim energy nonsense was so awesome. Guys would have energy POURING OUT OF THEIR EYES AND MOUTHS and all that shit.
He should have written one of those HOW TO DRAW ENERGY BLASTS books for kids. With steps like "First, what SORT of energy is it? Nuclear, magic, solar, electric, or cosmic?"
nuclear or solar = lots of spots and inkblots all over!
magic = very clear, defined geometric shapes!
cosmic = CRAZY ENERGY BUILDUP, make it come out of every possible orrifice!
Remember to use a ruler!
I mean, I'd buy it for sure.
I vaugely remember Jim Lee wasn't that bad when he was still on X-Men...silly bastard would like cross hatch EVERY goddamn thing.
_____________
Not completely through The Filth yet as I'm having some trouble reading long stretches of it without freaking out. I'm going like an issue or two a day...it's just too much for my brain. I was planning on bringing it up more in detail after I finished though - in sort of a theraphy session in learning how to deal with what I've seen.
But I end up sitting back and going "Hahaha, what the fuck?" like every other page. This book is just insane, and I'm terrified of leaving it out in the open in case someone visits and looks at it. I'm not prepared yet for the type of social akwardness that would result between us.
That bit with the giant flying sperm attacking every fertile womb in sight was definately a highlight. Good stuff.
Agent Spector bugs me a lot though - I'm having the hardest time trying to dechiper what she's saying. The accent's too much.
I agree that the book doesn't work without this type of art though. Ultradetailed, ultraviolent stuff, terrifying scenes. I think Frank Quitely would also be really good for this book (he was awesome for WE3), as well as Steve Dillon.
Steve Dillon's stuff all have this look to it - like you just know something's going to happen and some poor guy's going to have his eyeballs knocked out violently or something as soon as you see that Steve Dillon's drawing something.
And Garth Ennis is another guy besides Warren Ellis that might have been able to write something like this...though maybe not to this extent. There were some bits in Preacher that had the same type of "holy shit what the fuck" feel as some of the stuff in The Filth, like that meat guy, the cannibals, the fat retard, and...actually...pretty much all of it.
And Desolation Jones is an awesome book - I've been reading my friend's copies, and I need to pick up the trade when it comes out. Warren Ellis has gotta be one of my top five favourite writers right now.
__________
I'll echo Zephy in promoting Y: The Last MAAAAAAAAN!!!!!1 and Preacher as the top Vertigo books to check out after 100 Bullets and FAAAAAAAABLES!!!11111. Preacher's a lot of volumes long, but it's all worth it.
WE3 is also a pretty sweet comic book quickie at three issues.
I also read Lucifier up to like issue #50-something, but I forgot to check it out one month and I just ended up completely forgetting about it. Weird book. But good.
Lucifer has some crazy Batman or Thanos level prep time tricks as well.

Carpet Lint: WildCATs v2 is worth getting just for the art alone, I must've spent hours just appreciating the art before reading it. lol oh yeah it was a fun read too.
RE: The Filth:
I haven't read it yet but if its anything like Invisibles. oh man. LOL Its probably a fun book to read while stoned but you'll need all your brain cells to read everything between the lines and all the subtext. Grant Morrison is totally out there, you'd be questioning your sanity after reading it. lol
RE: Recommended Vertigo titles.
Zeph pretty much got everything covered. Reminded me of Gangland, I loved that one, IIRC its Azarello/Bradstreet.
Also there's the series' Hellblazer and Lucifer. both awesome stuff, although the early Hellblazer stuff weren't that great IMO and harder to get into but it gets really good from issue 50 IIRC or so (I think that's when Ennis started then from there its a series of continuously good writers: Ellis, Azarello, Carey, etc.).
There's also the classic Gaiman/Gaiman inspired stuff (Sandman, The Dreaming etc). I think the first Vertigo I've ever read was "Death The High Cost of Living" when I was in 5th grade because my brother traded one of my comics for it and I was furious at him for that but then I read the book and enjoyed it. Been a Vertigo fan ever since.
The Losers is a fun book too, not as deep or as character driven as other Vertigo books but the action is quite spectacular.

Yeah, when it comes to Vertigo I'd have to say Preacher takes the cake. Seven Soldiers was pretty good but I was let down by then end of Mr. Miracle, Manhattan Guardian was the best of all of them IMO. I hope everyone here read Marvel Zombies because it was amazing, Robert Kirkman doesnt disappoint. I met him at Comic-Con last year and told him Ive been an Invincible/Walking Dead fan since they started and he was like,"You read my books? AWESOME! I'll sign whatever you want!!!" One book that people are sleeping on that's fire is Ex Machina. BUY THIS BOOK NOW! There are already 3 trades out, you'll be happy you bought them, trust me.

Haha, yeah, Ron Lim's power blasts were just ridiculously intense. The characters would bleed energy fumes all over the page. It's like that scene in Transformers: The Movie when the Decepticons attack the shuttle and kill all the original Autobots, and you see Prowl falling to the ground after getting shot and all that energon exiting his robotic orifices. Except when Ron Lim draws it, it's just magnified to the Nth level. I think just talking about Ron Lim's power blast drawings is one of my favorite subjects to discuss in all of comics.
---
Once again, Shengy is right on the money in regards to Wildcats volume 2. The art is all good stuff. You got Travis Charest (what happened to him???) doing the first few issues, and even some fill-in art from Bryan "Authority/Ultimates" Hitch. Lee Bermejo did an annual, Steve Dillon did two issues, and Sean Phillips did the rest of the Joe Casey run. I like all of those artists, and I'm a total Sean Phillips whore. I'll pretty much read or buy anything he draws just on principle.
---
If Deathy's gonna plug Brubaker, I guess I must support him. Pretty much all the Brubaker stuff is excellent. I have a pretty good portion of his published work, except for some of the really obscure/out of print indie stuff from his early days. I also don't have any issues of Deadenders beyond the first paperback. Deadenders was a Vertigo series that launched around the time 100 Bullets launched but it sold poorly and got cancelled after around 19 issues. I've been rereading his Catwoman run the past couple days and it's just one of the best superhero comics of the past couple years. If you like Daredevil (Miller or Bendis), then Brubaker's Catwoman is a sure-fire hit.
The only thing with Catwoman is that it started going downhill at issue 25, when Paul Gulacy became the regular artist. His art just didn't fit well with the scripts and tone of the book. It really hurt. Plus, some of those issues were War Games crossover issues which were basically garbage. Paul Gulacy ain't a bad artist, just his Catwoman work was so inconsistent and frustrating. The guy used to draw The Hands Of Shang-Chi, Master Of Kung-Fu so I just can't hate him.
Hmm... I wonder how The Hands Of Shang-Chi, Master Of Kung-Fu would look if Ron Lim were to draw him...

It better be really Chameleon or Mysterio.............
Yeah I hope it's Chameleon at work too, or some kind of trick...
I think Batman's parents are next on the resurrection wheel the way things are going....
In the last issue of Street Fighter they brought a Hong Kong thug who got decapitated back to life as they explain in the Raw issue! They were poking fun at how death means nothing in comics, lol!
Dr. Strange in the Dead Girl series explained how dead people keep coming back to life in their world, saying something like that some people have a strong will to live will be alive, so they come back... okay it seems like that theory's missing a few 'Crows...' Funny book!
Other comic book stuff, last issue of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man - He can fly in the new suit. His Wolverine rip off stingers seem to come out on their own when he's fighting someone who has mystical powers. Spider-Man had an interesting conversation with Iron Man on weither his powers were mystical or science based, which lead to a conversation on if Iron Man believes in Intelligent Design, or Evolution. Iron Man just flew away refusing to answer the question.
Nightwing was Hella boring this month, snore.... Yeah, it's Jason Todd catching wreck. So there are 2 Nightwings. The rest of it was about Dick Grayson becoming a model, again, snooooore.... I'll excuse everything if they are setting up for a big throwdown or something, that results in Jason Todd dissapearing... I liked the Teen Titans last ish and Superman All Stars #3 as of late on the DC side.
Berserk manga #11 owned the week for me. Black Dog army is no joke! Man the anime left out a lot of stuff... still in the middle of reading that...
Haven't touched my X-books yet.

Picked up Batman: Year 100 #3 this week. It's a great comic. Paul Pope's art and story is just maniacal- it looks and feels unlike any other Batman ever, the punk rock equivalent of a DC comic. Hopefully they will collect all four of these Prestige Format issues into a trade so more people can read it. I heard that the first and second issues actually got second printings, so that's good, at least. But DC is whack when it comes to trades. Sometimes they make 'em super slowly, or the skip issues, or they just don't even bother. I'm still waiting for that Rick Veitch/Tommy Lee Edwards The Question miniseries to get collected. That series was so good, it had to be one of the top 3 minis of 2004, and plus with the Question appearing in 52, DC really should collect that.
New Brian Wood graphic novel came out, too. The Tourist, published by Image, with art by some dude named Toby Cypress. It's a good read, at a good price. The story is about a tough guy who creates a new identity in this small town on a faraway island, but he's involved in drug smuggling. Eventually he's gotta choose between his smuggling operation and a woman... Of course. The artwork is interesting enough. It looks like it might be the guy's first comic, and some places it is kinda inconsistent, but overall it's interesting to look at. Lots of ink splashes and great use of darks.
Also picked up the latest issue of Marvel Romance Redux. I don't know if this is an ongoing series or what, now, but I have to say it's a very entertaining use of 3 dollars. Even though not all of the remixes are hilarious, it's still a good buy. 32 pages, no ads, and it takes more than 10 minutes to read.
What else did I read this week... Ultimate Spider-Man was pretty entertaining. That last page had me laughing really hard, that was just great. Desolation Jones #6 was awesome, too bad it's been so long since #5 that I only had a vague recollection of what happened before. I'm sure the trade will be an even better read, though, so I'll probably get the it when it comes out. I have no idea if Desolation Jones is gonna be an ongoing bimonthly or if this is it for now. Ultimate Extinction was good. I like the art in that comic- it looks different than most other Marvel and DC books. It's probably the copious use of lines to add shadow and texture. Whatever it's called, it looks nice.

I finally got caught up at the shop:
I was a little sad about Desolation Jones #6 relatively - it didn't seem quite as sharp - but then again it was the closure piece for the story, so ... I'll imagine it gets cracking again shortly. The ending just didn't really resonate with me for whatever reason. =\
NextWave still cracks me right up. AWESOME. That and "Fell"... I'm stunned that Ellis is putting out stuff this great again.
Infinite Crisis continues to be pretty boring - but I'd imagine that a huge trade collection of it and related stories might make it cooler. I say boring because I never really feel like they're changing the status quo much in DC stories... the iconicism of most of their characters just doesn't seem subject *to* change. We'll see how things stand in six months - hopefully the current OYL shake-ups work out well.
Sadly, I just got Pulse #14. That was stunningly good and I was really surprised it came from Bendis - I didn't know he had something that good in him. I like him a lot, but this was just the best I've seen from him.
Marvel Zombies #5, 100 Bullets #71: meh.
I assume other people are reading Justice? This seems like an interesting series. I have no idea what's going on and wish it was just out in TPB form, but .... I recommend this from what I've read so far. Probably my favorite Elseworlds-ish thing so far.
I picked up "Flee, Puny Humans" because the store manager didn't want to file it so gave me a discount... zzzzzzzzz. Miss that.
I'll be picking up Walking Dead next time - I hadn't really heard a lot from people about that. Let me know if it sucks.

EDIT: I want to get comics/gn's for the sake of enjoyment and not for there collectors value or whatever and i'm also open to all sorts of genres/styles although i guess i would prefer to start out with basic super hero stuff and as for art style i like bright vivid colors and those cool dark thick outlines like cel-shaded stuff.

I just wanted to give the Alan Moore fans a heads up that he currently has three potential titles being released this summer:
-A quasi autobiography
-A Third installment in the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" Series
-A work that focuses on sexual stories in the first perspective by fictional characters such as Alice in Wonderland, Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, and Snow White
Personally, the third looks the most interesting as it portrays grown up characters as prostitutes; yet another on of Moore's "what if" stories.
EDIT: The Book is Called "Lost Girls Collected"

Add Invincible and Y: The Last Man to your list and you're set. Also, Powers by Brian Michael Bendis(Ultimate Spiderman) is a great read as well. And if you still have money, go get Brian Michael Bendis' Daredevil run. I forget what issue it starts on, but its damn good. Also, when Ed Brubaker's Daredevil stuff gets the TPB treatment go run out and get that as well.
Let's see, what else is there....? Ah yes, Ed Brubaker's Catwoman and Captain America(current) run is pretty damn good as well.

What is up with Galactus and Silver Surfer in Ultimate Extiction? I thought they were going to be way better than that, but they seem to have ruined those two characters. The old Galactus and Silver surfer were fine the way they were.
I know I am a little late, but WooHoo Ultimate Deadpool. He doesnt seem like the Classic one though in dialogue, but the costume is way cool.
If anyone reads Ultimate Ironman can you tell me whether you think it is good or not?
I am hoping for Ultimae Hulk to et his own comic.
I also wanted to add that I had an argument with somoene that said Ironman could beat anyone in marvel. I dont believe this for a second, and I try to tell him he is not, but there is no hope. I gave up trying to convince him, but I just want to know for closure  that he isnt right right?

He's an Iron Man fanboy. There's no point in arguing. Marvel cosmic powered characters, Marvel Gods, freaking Galactus >>>>>>> Iron Man.
Not even going that far. Hulk can prolly kick his ass. The only way anyone beats Hulk is by outsmarting him but in a fist fight, Hulk will mop the floor with the guy. There's a reason they had to send Banner up to fix a satellite and blow it up to get rid of him. You sure as hell didn't see Iron Man line up to kick his ass, instead he said, "Um, no. Let's deep six Mr. Green Jeans in Outer Space!" Can't wait for Hulk's return to Earth after Planet Hulk, "HULK SMASH ILLUMINATI!"

thaks for the closure, I knew in my head that he was a fanboy, but I just had to make sure because you never know. I did mention hulk aswell against iron man to him and he said some stuff about ironman using a tranqualizer and then I refuted it with the hulks blood destroying it before it penetrated the skin or the tranqualizer itself would be destroyed just by the toughness of the hulks skin. Well whatever to all that mess.

Don't worry, it doesn't suck. It's way past good. So far past good, in fact, that it is just awful. Or something like that.
I believe there is actually an Omnibus Hardcover that collects the first 12 or 24 issues, but I don't know how much it costs. I guess most people like Robert Kirkman for Invincible, but my favorite book of his is The Walking Dead, by far. I've been getting all the trades and it's just superb- it's kind of reminiscent of Y: The Last MAAAAAAAAN!!1 in the sense that it's about society moving on after a crazy catastrophe that changes the world. It isn't as full of conspiracy theories and, well, it isn't quite as "literate" (poor word, but I don't know how else to put it) as Y, but it's just as intense, if not more so. The Walking Dead is just one of those books that slams you in the gut as you read it. There's a been a huge zombie fad in the media the past few years, and especially in comics ever since 30 Days Of Night, but I wouldn't be surprised if Walking Dead is the best zombie comic right now, if not ever.

orochizoolander- I'm just gonna give you a prelude to the next Carpet Lint post: FAAAAAAAABLES!!!!!11.
Oh yeah, Deathy mentioned Brubaker, and so do I. Look for Sleeper. http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=br_ss_hs/002-0186052-2619242?platform=gurupa&url=index%3Dblended&keywords=sleeper+brubaker&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go
You can start with a book called Point Blank (also written by Ed Brubaker) but it really isn't necessary. Just pick up Sleeper volume 1: Out In The Cold and you'll be hooked. Essentially, Sleeper is about a super-powered secret agent who infiltrates a criminal organization, except that his commanding officer gets put into a coma so no one knows he's actually a sleeper agent. As a result, he gets stuck working for the criminal organization with no way out, and the story just takes off from there. It's one of the most sharply written and intense books of the past couple years. Plus, the beauty of Sleeper is that you don't need to read any other comic to get a feel for the characters or to fill in the story- it's all self-contained. The art is by this guy named Sean Phillips, one my favorite artists ever, and he's got kind of this dark, noirish style. His storytelling skills as an artist are top notch, too, so the book is just 100% excellence.

My beef eith the wedding is the huge deal they are making it into. I don't even understand what that's about. Storm's big, but she ain't that big, and Panther even less. It's not like Captain America or Sidey is getting married. Come to think of it, did anynoe even care if a/when Cap got married. It's weak, but sadly I think it's 70+% because they're black.
Oh, whatever happened to the Ultimates? Last issue I saw was Utltimates 2, issue 7. What made me think of it again was Ultiamte Extinction 3. man, U Captain America is just vicious. And Uncle Tom, I mean Falcon is cool too. Girl called him out, though. I didn't even notice til she pointed it out and I went back.
C and D has gotten weak though. Disapointing as it started out so well. I forget what comic it is, but Gambit as Death is badass. Seriously, he has been pushed to the sidelines. Just too many X-Men it seems.
Spreaking of too many, I'm waiting with anticipation for the New X-men stars to really step up. See what they do with knowledge of their powers. Like Elixir could be a beast but is stuck being a teen.
All in all, I'm digging marvel.

C'mon, the Hulk for Hire one is hilarious!
The Storm thing is sort of big. She's Marvel's version of Wonder Woman for all intents and purposes due to a severe lack of great female Heroines on Marvel's side. They have good ones, not great ones or any that reach the status of Storm and/or Wonder Woman. Maybe Spider-Woman is changing that, maybe.
But BP is not even close to Storm's status. Maybe Storm will where the pants in the relationship, "Black Panther where's my sandwich beeyatch!"
Heh, the wedding's funny. For years the fans have been crying for Storm and Wolverine to hook up, way to listen to the fans...
I was always down with Bishop and Storm hooking up but the fans said HELL NO! Don't exactly know why. Now they made them sort of blood related so forget it.
Forge and Storm was great too, but they seemed to have nothing but problems...
I am so glad Storm and Slipstream didn't happen. What a dork...
During the wedding when they say, "If anyone objects to this wedding speak now or forever hold your peace!" Forge needs to say "F*** NO!" and blast storm with that ray gun that will take away her powers! Storm will immediatly shave her head again and have that mowhawk causing BP to throw up and dump her...

Picked up 3 comics today. And all of em were great reads. Excellent week in comics.
New Avengers was good. I especially enjoyed the conversation between Spider-Man and Spider-Woman in the Quinjet. It gave me a chuckle. Good action and after 2 issues of build-up, we are finally progressing somewhere with this story. Quite a few guest-stars lined up and it's nice to see Spidey in the position he is in.
Squadron Supreme was good as well. Nice to see how the team interacts with each other on their first mission. Cliffhanger setup was great and there's gonna be a huge throwdown in the next issue.
And Justice was another good read. Although the 2 month schedule is quite annoying... I really enjoy when a new issue comes out. Everyone should read this.

heres what i picked up this week.
MoonKnight 1---wanted to see what the fuss was all about, started of typically, and then had an interesting ending. Great art and interesting character........
New Avengers 18---- great issue, one of the best this series has had in a while. Last 4 pages were fantastic.
Justice 5 ------ Average, not as strong as the previous ones....dunno, felt like there was way too much going on at the same time, two months to wait for the next issue doesnt help neither.
Nextwave 4---- had me laughing at so many instances. the origins of the captain were great, and definately funnier than the previous issue.
and finally Squadron Supreme 2------ pick of the week for sure........great team dialogue and the new villain is pretty cool, wonder how their gonna peace him out. Radioactive man and Edith are very intriguing....fuck that, the whole cast is cool. Zarda's reaction when she hears that theirs going to be killing was a nice touch.

so i picked up wolverine origins........bad fucking move. god that shit was boring as fuck. picked up a few other things
Robin 149- story seems pretty good. granetd i missed out on the last issue, but i'm curious to see where this is going.
justice 5- as everyone else has said, great stuff
anihilation nova - ok i will admit, i was very skeptical about this book. but damn does it deliver. seeing nova go apeshit was well worth the price of this book
new avengers 18 - much better than the last few issues. i'm just glad that bendis didn't turn this issue into another talking head issue
daredevil 84 - not much i can say about this besides : daredevil is a fucking beast. plus the last page has a guest appearance of a character that hasn't been in the regular marvel universe in a while. looks like they are trying to reincorporate him back into the MU again. i hope they succeed
green arrow 61 - i was very dissapointed with this issue. i thought that him and slade were gonna throw down, but no. very misleading cover
x-men 185 - very good issue. pestilence is finally revealed; and let me say, it's a surprise. at least to me it was.

You know now that I think about, JMS had the Squadren's version of Wonder Woman killing entire blocks of people before DC had WW break one neck.
Minor spoilers, I suppose -
Yeah, Wolverine Origins #1 was hella boring. I expected it to be as shocking as the original Origin comic, Wolverine The End or even what's been going on in Wolverine's own comic. But it wasn't. Only good thing was seeing a Shiva robot after such a long time and Wolverine in his brown suit. But as a Wolvie fan I sort of have to buy this entire series so...
New Avengers - Man, when Ms. Marvel was attacked and all the different powers hit her, I figured out it was the powers of all the lost Mutants. I figured it out pages before the big reveal. I a genious! But yeah, Spidey never have a license was hella funny! I can't recall him driving anything other than the Spidey Mobile! This owned the week for me.
X-Men - It was okay I thought. Pestilence's reveal was nice though. I just hate how Milligan is handling Gambit/Rogue throughout his entire run is all. But for a Milligan book I like -
X-Statix Dead Girl - Ah, they rammed me with Dr. Strange having Hemorroids again! Still this book is really funny and won me over. Mr. Sensitive and U-Go Girl are back!
Sensational Spider-Man - Everyone in NY is becoming violent, people with powers are acting up, it was okay... for the new suit counters he does put on the new suit half way through the issue, make sure you count it.
Spider-Woman - A nice end to a great series. They really made her stand on her own and have nothing to do with Spider-Man. Can't wait until her limited series starts up. Between her and Ms. Marvel looks like Marvel's getting better with female heroines to me.
Shonen Jump - I literally have a stack of Shonen Jump books at my house that I have not read, but this one had an interview with one of my favorite Manga artists, Hirohiko Araki the creator of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure so I had to read at least that!
Actually, Bendis made it pretty obvious that the entity was the collective powers of the mutants long before Ms Marvel was attacked. Waaaaaay back in House of M #8 actually. Another hint was when he wrote a blurb/recap about House of M in the front page of New Avengers 2 or 3 issues ago. And the title of the arc "The Collective" hinted that we're talking about the collective powers of all the mutants who lost their powers from House of M.

To anyone looking for a new book to pick up that they'll really enjoy...I strongly suggest FAAAABLES!!!111.
And by "strongly suggest" I really mean "I will hunt you down and cut you with a knife if you don't listen".
The following is a completely original post, and I am not copying and pasting a previous post from this very thread.
Here's the basic premise...
All these fairy book characters (Snow White, Big Bad Wolf, Three Little Pigs, etc.) have been driven out of their homelands by this mysterious enemy called the Adversary. So they escape into our world, and set up shop in modern day New York. King Cole is the mayor of Fabletown, Snow White is the deputy mayor, the newly reformed Big Bad Wolf is the sheriff...stuff like that.
So if you want to check out something new, I'd suggest picking up the first FAAAABLES!!!11 trade the next time you're at the store. I can't think of too many better ways to spend your comic book money.
Check out DC's page for it...
http://dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=1606
...and if that interests you, cop the first trade, if that interests you, cop the next one, and keep doing it until you get sick of it or your run out and you're on the street sucking cock for comic book money like I am.
Only really cool thing about this book is recognizing fairy book characters that you remember from those old stories and seeing how they're imagined in this book. It's kinda like at the beginning of the Ultimate Universe, when it was still really neat to check out how all the old characters got Ultimatized. I get such a kick out of the story when I recognize a character that I read about in fairy tales when I was a kid. Even all the little minor cameo ones that pop up from time to time, especially in the second story arc.
But I don't want to pimp it out so hard that people are going to start thinking it's overrated or whatever. It won't redefine comics and it won't blow your mind like DKR or Watchmen or something, but it's a very well made comic. The writing is sharp, the dialogue is good, the plots are fun and interesting, and the characters are all excellent. And honestly, that's all you can ask for these days in a monthly.
For what it's worth, it's my favourite monthly right now...but everyone's tastes are different.
But I like to think FAAAABLES!!!11 is the Scarlet Johansson of comic books - she's to everyone's taste. Unless you're a gay or something.
I think every comic book nerd should check out at least the first trade - just to see if they like it.
In fact, here's a preview of the first issue that you can check out. I did not steal this link from someone else's post.
http://www.dccomics.com/features/fables/FABL001.pdf
____________
Sleeper was indeed a ridiculously awesome book, but I always kick myself for not getting around to picking up the second volume. I assume the trades are already out.
Brubaker is just...so good.
____________
I know Spider-Man's been in a bunch of comics this week, but I gotta wait until the weekend to do my reading and to update the poll. I'M BUSY MOTHERFUCKERS
____________
I managed to check out that BMV store downtown that liqsquid (spelling? Shit, he hasn't been around in a long time) used to always tell me about, and there are indeed a ton of cheap new books in there.
Picked up V For Vendetta for like fifteen bucks, and I haven't seen the movie yet, so I guess I'll read it first.
Also picked up all the issues of Bite Club, which I'm still somewhat mixed on. I think I really liked it...but I can't shake this cheesy feel I got from everything. The ending was really rushed, too.
Meh.
And I gotta pick up the Desolation Jones trade when it comes out.
_______________
Yesterday I was at this cramped comic store downtown called the Hairy Tarantula (I like to call it the "Hataran", but that hasn't really caught on) looking for those WildCATs trades because they weren't in stock everywhere else...and I was overhearing this conversation that was talking place behind me, between two of the "staff" and who I guess was a friend that dropped in.
The girl behind the counter and the dude that dropped in where talking about some nonsense, and then it suddenly slowed down and things got weird.
I hear another guy's voice and he goes "Actually, you guys keep using 'he', but I should be a lot stickier about asking people to use 'she' since I've been a post-op transexual for over a year already."
So I got my back turned to them, and I think it's a hilarious throwaway bit (I don't know about your social circles, but that's a standard joke in mine) so I start chuckling to myself and I turn around...
...AND I SEE THIS SKINNY DUDE WITH BOOBS.
And I throw up just a little bit inside my mouth just at the pure shock of it. ...though to be fair, I guess I should have expected it.
So I'm standing there staring, I guess (because I have to be honest...it was through a t-shirt, but it was my impression that they weren't bad boobs) and they all look at me, and I have to think of a cover for my oogling of the post-op transexual, so I ask him (her?) if they had Homecoming and Gang War in stock, because I couldn't find it.
And she (he?) skips around the counter, makes some comic-related small talk with me that I have now completely forgotten, and actually finds it. I guess I must have missed it the first time around ALONG WITH THE TRANSEXUAL WITH THE HUGE RACK STANDING BEHIND THE COUNTER
I don't think I said a single additional word above whisper level as I paid for the books, agreed to sign up for the membership when she/he asked me if I was interested, and ran out of there like a motherfucker. It was too much for my brain to handle. They could have sold me ANYTHING...even like...I don't know, fifteen acres of North Dakota real estate or something in the state I was in.
So now I have a copy of Homecoming and Gang War and a membership at the Hataran to show for my first encounter with a (known) transexual.
I will cherish them always.

DD I agree as well was another good one.
Captain America the storyline ending was a great set up for the next arc.
Justice was excellent again.
Squadron Supreme, all I gotta say is damn this book is gonna be fun while waiting for the last of the ultimates2 books to come out.
X-men 185, eh I saw that coming just kinda think Apoc was out of character again for his reason in choosing that person to be pestilance. Besides that the Art and plot were great.
New Avengers finally builds up with something great after a while of just talk issues.
So does anyone know exactly know when ultimates 2 11 comes out since they've extended the series?

In other news - Kanye West and Bill Plympton, creating manga??
"MANGA EVEN COOL ENOUGH FOR KANYE WEST
We don't really keep up with the music the kids are listening to these days, but judging by the number of magazine covers he's been on, and the amount of controversy he garnered from dressing up like Jesus, we gather that this Kanye West fellow is very popular and also the saviour of music today. In youth culture terms, he's "da bomb". Now, it seems, he's " working on a "manga-style" book with animator Bill Plympton, according to Time magazine. Simon & Schuster is publishing the book, which will be based on West's lyrics." as reported by Anime News Network.
You might recall that Plympton animated a video for West's song "Heard "em Say" (after a previous version by ultra-hip Michel Gondry wasn't used.) Manga! Kanye West! Bill Plympton! Ladies and germs, we have just reached coolpocalypse. (Yes, yes, we know Bill Plympton doesn't draw manga--but why break the rule of three?)

Civil War #1 is less than one week away. You will need to decide: whose side are you on? Are you ready? The opening shot is being fired! Marvel wants to make sure you have all of the facts and have been exposed to all of the events leading up to this monumental event. Check out this video prequel that catches everyone up on the events of the last two years. Events that have haunted the heroes. Events that have turned the tide of public opinion. Events that have rocked the Marvel Universe to its core, leaving it vulnerable… to war!
Seems interesting, even though I don't read comics anymore except for the Street Fighter series.

Infinite Crisis #7: Great ending. Action packed the whole way through, opens up for 52. I love the way they ended this, especially in comparison to the ending for Identity Crisis (boooo). Some nice revelations here, pertaining to what has changed in the DC past and present... Some interesting stuff for Flash, too, especially when adding it to the link I posted earlier... hmm....
Teen Titans #35: Good issue, seems a little short, again. I guess I shouldn't read it after IC, since that's a few pages longer. The new Titans are... interesting. Good to see some clashing characteristics between team mates.

Cap > S.H.I.E.L.D. He has become such a beast this past year.
As he should be, he is Marvel's equvilant to Batman ( not as smart, but just as good of a leader and a better fighter ) with the respect of Superman.
I am actually excited to read Civil War, to the comic nerd store !
SPOILERS
picked up Infinite Crisis and Civil war today.
Infinite crisis wrapped up nicely. Alexander Luthor being taken pwned by _____. Great stuff. Also we learn about the new Flash in this series. Nice read.
Civil war was okay. The Captain America sequence was good but the story is fairly predictable. Spider-man will help out Iron man at the start, but then jump ship over to Captain America's side. FF will be split in their decision. Also for some reason I didn't enjoy McNiven's artwork as much this time around.
IDENTITY CRISIS 7 SPOILERS
Here's what I didn't understand. Did Dick Grayson / Nightwing get killed or didn't he? If he did then who was that guy waiting for Batman on the boat? Was that gasp... Jason Todd now down with Bats? I could just chalk up that Nightwing on those pages of all the substitute heroes as Jason Todd, even though both are Nightwing in Nightwing's comic, wha...
And how exactly did Superman(our Earth) lose his powers here? I really don't see anything that logically explains him losing his powers other than Kryptonite overdose which should, I dunno kill him first along with a trip through the freaking sun followed afterwards...
Great read and all don't get me wrong, but the above 2 things confused me and I don't know if it's 'cuz I'm too stupid to understand the answers or if this just means the answers will be revealed in some other comic, arrrg....

INFINITE CRISIS 7 SPOILERS
Superman lost his powers when he was fighting SBP on Oa. In addition to flying through a red sun, he also flew through an asteroid field of kryptonite.
Nightwing just got "hurt" in that fight, I believe. Although he was bloody, he wasn't dead. The fact that he just got seriously injured was enough for Batman to snap into action, not wanting anyone else to die. That's why he's with Tim on the boat at the end.

Was the phoenix actually jean grey or was it just a doppleganger, if so, then what happened to the real Jean Grey? If the phoenix was really jean grey, does that mean Jean was permently the host of the phoenix? This is confusing.
Does Racheal and Jean host the same (as in exact) Phoenix entity or are their phoenixs' seperate. Are they hosts of different phoenixs' or was jean's power erased and then passed on to rachael?
I heard that in AOA, Racheal Summers = Mother Askani, the most powerful character in the AOA series who had the power to fuck up apocalypse, is this true?

MAYBE SPOILERS:
I think Spiderman will side with Cap A. Spiderman is vehemetly opposed to registering because he doesn't want to put his family in danger if the list falls into wrong hands. He'll part ways with Stark and join Cap's resistance. Cap basically wants the superheros to be above the politics because he doesn't want politicans to tell him who he can and can't fight and what situations he can and can't get involved in. Spiderman in 531 even says that superheros get involved in stuff no one else will and Washington doesn't have the right to tell them who is a villian and who isn't. Cap A is almost 100% going to get arrested by Ironman and Mr. Fantastic and that's what's going to ignite the whole thing (outside of the whole Nitro blowing up a school deal at the beginning of Civil War 1).
The whole thing is basically speedballs fault for bringing the new warriors and attacking Nitro and co. to get ratings for their reality TV show haha. New Warriors were clearly outmatched and they went in there anyways.

Well, if Tony planned the entire skirmish with Titanium man, then that could mean that he designed Spidey's suit to prepare for that match (his mechanical arms actually penetrated his titanium armor!). Spiderman will split from Stark once he confirms that he did order Titanium man to attack.
Also, with the Alpha Flight gone, I have a sneaking feeling that a lot of the resistance lead by Cap will eventually set base camp in Canada where they will be granted the same status Alpha Flight was (assisted by the government to do their job ala old Avengers).
The "new" Daredevil was also in Civil War #1, I have no idea what the coin flipping meant, if it gives any clue to his identity. It's pretty much safe to say that it isn't Spiderman moonlighting in the role since they were both in the meeting, with Spiderman outside the window. (plus its been done before, except it was only in the courtroom)
My top two candidates for this would be either Iron Fist or one of Moon Knight's multiple personalities, Although I'm leaning more to Iron Fist.

DAREDEVIL SPOILERS BELOW: (summary of what happened lately) highlight area below:
At the end of Bendis' run/Beginning of Brubaker's run Matt Murdock is found guilty and sent to Prison (Kingpin and Bullseye as well). While Matt is in prison, a mysterious person dons the same devil suit and takes over for Murdock doing his job on Hell's Kitchen. The indentity of this daredevil is unknown but apparently he knows Foggy.
Then while Foggy is in prison visiting Murdoch, he gets stabbed and dies while Matt could hear his screams and able to do nothing. Supposedly either the Owl or the Kingpin set this up but in the last issue, Matt confronts Owl and finds out that he did not orchestrate the murder.
Also while sitting at a coffee shop reading the newspaper about Murdoch, Kingpin, Bullseye and the Owl in the same prison, 616 Punisher !!! decides that Murdoch needs backup and surrenders himself to the police.
Daredevil is a must read for any comicbook fan, the transition from Bendis/Maleev to Brubaker/Lark is smooth and amazing. Marvel picked a perfect team to replace the great writing/art team that ran Daredevil since issue #25.

Spoilers:
Stick a fork in him, he's done. Until DC decides to bring him back from the dead, anyways.
End spoilers
POSSIBLE SPOILER
I heard some rumor that they are going to clone his body and bring back his spirit with Raven assist. Anyone else heard of this? Sounds logical but still...

What i dont get about civil war is why a criminal such as nitro would just now decide to kill himself and a c list superteam. Its not like his ass wasnt thrown in the clink before. Why now does he find the need to go suicide bomber for no real cause. That right there is ruining this event for me.
marvel said they were going to try to represent both sides but they are not doing a good job in my opinion. Iron man and Reed are made to look like a bunch of dicks in this piece. I also thought the funeral scene was over the top in predicted corniness. They have one more issue to make this good and sticking cap in a fight scene and surfing on a jet wont save it for them next time.

New Supergirl, I do not like so far. I think I'm going to drop that title. Female crime fighters are very hit-or-miss for me. This one seems like a miss. Teen Titans is interesting again. They were kind of in a slump for the last few arcs. I liked the Ultimate Deadpool storyline in Ultimate Spiderman.
POSSIBLE IC7 SPOILERS
The whole Infinite Crisis was very anti-climatic. It seems like these "world changing" events are more just spring boards to revitilize series' that aren't doing very well. Superboy Prime was a so-so villain. Wasn't he part of the reason to have the Crisis on Infinite Earths? Way too powerful? Or was that a different Superman? There was never a point where he was a threat to end all existence, or anything. He beat up a bunch of mid-carders, and then got clobbered when the big guns came in. Sure, old supes died, but you knew he was going to. I dunno. I liked Identity Crisis a lot more.

I don't think Nitro killed himself. I believe they said he was unaccounted for.

Contents in blue are possible spoilers, highlight when necessary, reader discretion advised.
Iron man said (regarding Nitro's whereabouts) they had "leads" and he hitched in the back of a pickup truck out of town.
Ironman and Reed already voiced their opinion on the matter in Illuminati special and they are far from being dicks just for the sake of it.
I actually wish Marvel wouldn't leave too much info out for the fans until the books are out. They have already mentioned Spiderman switching sides and Captain America leading the resistance even before the road to civil war books came out. Also mentioning Pietro showing up in the X-factor Civil War issue even before Son of M wrapped up.

See I didnt buy those iluminati issues. Thats pisses me off as well. Why not have a recap in the front of the book to inform the reader about what is going on instead of having a huge advertisment in the back of issue urging you to buy books that will help make sense of the story you just read? Why cant events be self contained? Since I didnt read illiminati and have only read civil war #1 I still feel they are out of charcter and acting like dicks.
I agree on your second point. I have tried to avoid all interviews and hype concering anything marvel does cause they tend to spoil their own shit without giving you a spoiler warning.

Nitro bascially showed the full extent of his powers to prove that the new warriors were nobodies compared to him. The collateral damage of the school was just that, collateral. After the fact, he realized he fucked up big time and peaced outta town. He'll probably lay low for a bit and than he'll come back and stir the pot.
Nitro will show in upcoming Wolverine issues.

yeah or they could've just made it Civil War #0 or something. Unfortunately the recap of what happened in The Illuminati special is in New Avengers.
I'm sure they'll flesh out again all the motives of both sides in upcoming issues anyway since they have to fill 7 issues.

Infinate Crisis' ending was totally dumb.
Nothing happened, a bunch of low tier nobodies died. Who cares.
Civil War on the other hand, jinkies, this is how you start a huge event. I am jonesin for a giant superhero fight. I can't wait until Captain America gives Iron Man a shield to the mouth. The art was SO fucking pretty too. Civil War art > Infinate Crisis easily.
Good game Marvel, good game. Let's see if you can keep this momentum going.
Spoiler I think...
The Watcher showing up was a REALLY nice touch.
Spoiler over.

This current Daredevil run is awesome. Murdock ruined the owl.
Those two pages with Punisher were the coolest two pages of any comic I've read recently since that sequence in Villians United when Joker killed the royal flush gang.
Go Marvel ! WOO !

And yes, after reading Civil War #1 I can officially say that Cap is a beast. Fucked up some shield soldiers and escaped without being shot.
