View Full Version : No voice chat?
So I got XBL for Halo 2 but have gone back to my Street Fighter roots recently with AC. One thing that is REALLY buggin' me however, is that no one voice chats. I'm used to playing online games where voice chat is a big part and it's kinda weaksauce that no one can chat. It's like playing a really good computer when there's no real human interaction.
anyone out there with a headset that wants some matches? If so, send me a FR: Smasher MLG

I voice chat once in a while. The reasons why people don't chat usually falls in one of these catagories.
1) Tired of hearing people whine/berate/scream on mic.
2) Can't consentrate on the fight at hand.
3) Has a joystick with no slot of headset.
4) Really hate chatting and doesn't do it on any game.
Though you'll run into lot of chatters. Be warned though, they're reasons people tossed the mic. Beware the ultra crap-talkers and screaming kids. Though in my experience that's been the exception of talkers not the rule.
Yeah, I understand that some people have sticks with no headset slot. And some people really are annoying to chat with online, but the online experience loses something when people aren't chatting. I like being to able talk about the game, the characters and find out how the heck someone did a cool combo or whatever.
For those of you that don't use a headset, do the voices of the people who DO have a headset on come over the TV? Or do you just have no communication at all?

If you have an opponent with their voice on and you have the voice off, your opponent's voice will come out of your speakers. They better be speaking up, as the game audio usually drowns them out.
I keep voice on because, frankly, why the hell not? Having voice on does not affect the lag in any way, and some people are interesting to talk to. Plus, I get to talk to some of my friends who I rarely or never see around the world FOR FREE thanks to Live.
Also, I haven't seen to many shittalkers on SF, but I play Hyper. I have no clue what the hell is going on with 3rd Strike, but since that game gets far more play, I'd have to assume that the scrubtalk is coming from over there.

Actually, voice does play a very big part in the lag you experience in the the game. I've experimented with other players and found that your game speed with voice off is greatly improved but with voice on, you run the risk of having lagged games. I've played games where people have their TVs volumes are set so high that I can hear it over the headset, which adds to the data being sent online and causing lag.
For me, I try to stay off the mic for this reason, but if people talk to me first (or if I feel like being goofy like I sometimes am in Halo), I'll use the mic.

No voice chat = less lag. I rather have a lagless match then chat with some lag. You wont be hearing my voice when Im on SF3.

Only thing I have to say is GET USED TO IT  That's the reason why this site is here to begin with. It's a competitive game that doesn't require any teamwork so essentially it's like playing chess online. There's not a whole lot gained by "conversing" with your opponent. A lot of the times it can distract you from the fight. Bad enough that lag gets in the way but chatting just makes things worse. I may make a couple comments inbetween rounds when I play offline against someone but that's about it. I pretty much never use the mic anymore online unless it's one of my friends. Too many fags online.

its bc ur doing one on one.... and theres a silence that has to be broken first, and some ppl just dont feel like speaking up. in games like halo, the silence will always be broken bc theres gonna atleast be 2 ppl in a game that know each other. but if u play one on one halo its the same silence as in this game.

Halo 2
well if the person doesnt have a mic plugged in. he cant say anything.
and if he does have a mic and doesn't say a word, sorry to say this but he will because every opponent that I have faced in head2head does it because if the level has a sword and I get it, it can be Hell 4 my opponnent but if he gets it before I do. I can stop it, I wont say how though. and if there is no sword, I get rocket but I am good with every weapon, I just get the powerful ones before my opponent.
btw I rarely play head2head,my favorite is Rumble Pit and Team Slayer.
Peace.

I usually only talk if the person asks me a question or says I'm being cheap or some shit. So in other words I don't talk unless spoken to
crono... what version of what? I play Halo 2 and both SF:AC games online.

I'll play Halo 2 but I'm not very good. I like both versions. It doesn't matter which we play.
