I'm not sure what's going on, but whenever I host a game, the gameplay is a lot more laggy than when someone else hosts. I have DSL (SBC Global) as my ISP. What doesn't make sense is that when I play other games such as Halo 2, I have no problems with lag. I've called Xbox live and they had me check my network settings... they found that I was losing a few packets, but nothing really major... but yeah, there is a huge difference in lag between games that I host and games that others host. What could be causing this? I'm not downloading or using the internet when I play... is there anything I can do to remedy this? I've heard that not using voice chat can improve speeds, but I haven't really noticed a difference, and I rarely use it anyway... please help!

You're not alone, I hardly ever host any games. It cause of our DSL service. When you host the lag is really affected by your upload speed. My DSL upload speed is 384kb, which isnt enough for a smooth SF3 match. Cable and T1/T3 players have a much better expierence when they host.
