This week i've desperately been trying to play Hugo, but he's really hard to use. So is there any good Hugo players on LIVE that can show me some stuff? Preferably not american since our connection will probably suck.

I consider myself a decent Hugo but that depends on who I play against. If I'm playing against a decent Urien player or Akuma player then I'm pretty much fucked unless I can get really close to them and stay on them.

Great, i'll add all all the people that wanted to be added. Bassventura: i actually have no problems with playing against Ken, i find Chun and Urien far more boring, so we can maybe get some games down this weekend.

You can only be good with Hugo if you can do standing 360's ( easy ) and if you can parry like a mo fo ( not happening online ).

So there are no good Hugo players online. You can't win tih him offline barely and online.......It's just not possible.

I've always wondered if there was anyone besides me that could do standing 360's, I've only seen one other person do them.

lol, I dont have a copy of 3S for my xbox but I will get my friends and play who ever wants to play.

If someone plays Hugo and can't do standing 360's they need to just stop even trying to use him.

The 360 is so easy in Third Strike, seriously, I mean people can do standing 720s. Do T Hawk's spd in Super Turbo consistently, and then you may consider yourself fancy with the 360.

Hugo has some good mind games, esp. since he has so many overhead attacks. Yes, standing 360 is a pre-requisite to a good Hugo player. Watch out for the guys who can do standing 720s... Gigas hurts a bit.

If by good player you mean being extremely extremely patient then yes it is damn near impossible to win with Hugo. But if you're fighting someone that's pretty aggresive then that person is fucked. And I have been against some pretty good Hugo players...but then again I'm one of those uber agressive type people.

How in the hell do you do a standing 720?!?!? Once I learn that shit then it's on. Walking up to people and giving them Gigas Breakers...damn that will be the day.

Someone please tell me what a Hugo with no super stocked can do against a runaway Akuma. I'm asking from the perspective from the Akuma, I have yet to lose this matchup, I feel like I could run away the whole match(play it safer when he has meter of course) and there's nothing Hugo can do to stop it. Someone hit me with the knowledge please^_^

I've played a lot of people like that before, and it's a hard ass match. The only way I'm ever able to win is if I get a parry or two in and I get that fucker in the corner.....after that he's pretty fucked unless he can get out of there.

akuma can just teleport out of the corner and continue to runaway

So, how do you guys do your standing 360s and 720s?

HarmoNaz

If the Hugo players knows his stuff, then the runaway Akuma is in trouble. Trust me - I play a mean runaway Akuma at times, but there are some Hugo players that keep playing against me until they get the wins.
ramza - if you do an air fireball and are going to land close to Hugo, then you will be 360/720'd. If you jump away with air fireballs, Hugo's super jump plus Hp can get you from surprisingly long distances. Also, the ex version of his clothesline move can catch from 3/4 of the screen so if they try that while you're landing, you either parry or take the hit.
As with any other match, it really depends upon the quality of the players. I have read somewhere that DarkTien considers the match a joke i.e. Hugo is no match for Akuma - but there are VERY FEW akuma players like DarkTien anyway, so that doesnt count :bgrin:

HarmoNaz
05-02-2005, 01:13 AM
Standing 360 - I do it by starting the motion from left or right, and press the punch when finishing on an up. In specific - f,df,d,db,b,ub,u + punch. I know thats a 270, but it works.
Standing 720 - I really dont know. I managed it once by doing the above 360 trick twice really fast, but I dont think thats the right way. it might be - do it fast enough so that Hugo isn't ready to jump when you first register the up motion. I think it has something to do with 'charge partitioning' the first 360...

ramza
05-02-2005, 01:23 AM
Yea, if the other guy has shown he can parry air fireballs, I wouldn't be throwing them. I'm being honest, I build meter and STAY THE FUCK AWAY from Hugo. Once I get full 2X meter, I've hit Hugos with Akuma's Raging Storm(or KKZ, or whatever its really called) on their wakeup, or when they superjump. I'm thinking it even beats out Gigas?(can't remember which super flash came first). I don't know what Hugo's air game is like, but if he jumps, I roundhouse/hp shoryu/mash jab/parry/close hp/crouching hp. All of which except roundhouse can be special/super cancelled. I rarely jump directly at him, and if cornered, simply teleport again to restart the whole cycle. In terms of mobility, a mediocre Akuma should take out an average Hugo EASILY, simply based on the quality of the characters. Hugo really can't do anything about, if he committed to even a jab in the corner, Akuma runs off scot free.

HarmoNaz
05-02-2005, 01:28 AM
roundhouse can be supercancelled - into a raging demon  thats what you should do if they parry the roundhouse.
I'm going on live now if you fancy some games? I'm out of form, but I hope I get back into the swing...

Heh, one moment against my friend who loves to parry everything...Akuma's jumping tatsu, apparently he learned the timing for it just for me, even parried three hits of it when we met air/air, but when he parried two hits of while I was jumping in on him, you know what's coming^_^ I've NEVER pulled Raging Demon off so close, they were literally touching before the super flash. Anyway...sitting here at 5 in the morning(in the US east coast anyway) and need to study for a test I have at 10 am^_^...internet KILLS my productivity...I'll catch you after finals week man~

Psychochronic,

I nominate my friend Ryu1234 as a good candidate for Hugo. Ryu1234 has shown to be a pretty lethal Hugo character because he beats my Yun and Yang tag team good. Again to the original thread maker, try me and my friend Ryu1234 if you want to have a good time online. Also one more thing I have to say to you, SHUT THE HELL UP! I wanted to say that for awhile when you posted in my thread. Now, stop copying other people opinions and use your head for a change. Dickriding. Ha, Ha, Ha, very funny?!? I'm not laughing. Leave us alone. If you want to say something, post it on the Ryu1234 thread and don't waste your time on this one. All I am recommending is this guy play with Ryu1234's Hugo and that's it. Bye.:tup:

Hey TheLegendKilla.

Let all us nooby people now who else you play online that you consider
a good challenge or are you so busy being Ryu1234's disciple that he is
the only one you play online?

Oh and Melubas if you do decide to go play Ryu1234 don't be surprised
if you never get to see his Hugo since all he seems to pick is Akuma.

I recommend that you hit him up if you see him online. It's probably gonna
be laggy since you are in sweeden and he is in the US, but to witness his
cheese Akuma is allways a good laugh.

twirling the stick is the way to do standing 720, or you can partition of a jab or a clap for example walk warward and grab super them to death.

Sorry Melubas, I wasn't talking about you. I was talking to psychochronic. I have nothing against you. I understand if you are confused about #34 post. I should have mentioned about psychochronic in my posts instead of referring to you. Again, play Ryu1234's Hugo and you will have a good time with him. Again, sorry. Well, I hope to see you online in the future. Until then, happy fighting.

Haha, although i doubt the matches would be fair considering a lag Akuma (i'm not saying he uses lag tactics, but any Akuma is a pain in lag) is pretty hard to deal with using Alex, let alone Hugo! But i can say right now that Harmonaz has the best Hugo i've played on LIVE (ok, aside from his i've only played scrub Hugos), but i gotta play Sifu V:s soon too :karate:

If Akuma teleports and:

1. You know it is coming
2. You got full meter

GGPO Akuma...

Whiff low short into Gigas or any super when he gets near you in teleport mode... Other than that you just have to be on point with your offense and defense, nothing else to it...

If Akuma runs away from you, you should taunt to raise your defense. Hugo has about 3 times the health of Akuma after four taunts.

Hugo's ways of getting in include his close line and his air throw, which is also a great tool for mobility. Unfortunately, if the air throw is mistimed, Hugo can easily be hit during the recovery animation, but at the same time, if it is timed right, over 1/3rd of Akuma's health if gone off of a regular piledriver. The HK version can be used to "cross up" an opponent and land on the other side of his attack if it is done at medium-far range. A super art such as 1 would take off well over half of Akuma's life with one correct guess. I use Super Art 3 though because it adds a lot of mobility and allows for a free taunt afterwards.

Also, it should be noted that Hugo's pokes are like half the screen distance, so Hugo doesn't have to get that close. If he gets the down + mk off from a distance, that is a free taunt.

I am still a beginner at this game, but thest tactics work at a low level of play quite effectively. The more effective the opponent is, the harder it is to use these tactics because of timing, but they can still work if timing is perfect. And yeah, you might need good timing to play Hugo, but considering that there aren't many combos to learn, that is a fair trade.

Yes, Hugo does have to guess more correctly than other characters, and parry more, etc. but that is why he has the highest defense rating in the game. After a few taunts, a Hugo player can loosen up and take risks that other characters can't just because of the sheer length of Hugo's stun bar and life gauge.

A lot of times, it appears that Hugo is getting his butt kicked, until you look at the life bar and notice he's winning.

Also, it should be noted that, at from a distance, what can Akuma really do to Hugo? Sure, he can fireball and do annoyance tactics, but he isn't going to take off much life from that. Eventually, any fighter will have go get in close to do damage, and Hugo is a beast at that range.

I think Hugo's underrated.
