Do parries work differently based on range? I've been doing a lot of parry practice this week, and one thing I'm finding is that parrying is almost impossible at point-blank range, but with a tiny bit of distance it's not nearly as hard to do.

i know how u feel, i at first couldnt parry anything but projectiles, but with time i came to realize, parrying comes from timing and anticipating someones moves.... when reall close i would set up for a parry b4 they actually did the move... i mainly parry wake ups and jump ins... u just gotta time it and know when there gonna attack, to me it has nothin to do with reflexes, its more of anticapating ur oppenent. parry training didnt help me at all (besides for projectile parrys), i just learned everything from tryin it in reall games.
so in other words, no.
The only time where distance matters on the parry timing is when someone shifts the camera angle. So if you're full screen and in the air and someone throws a Ryu SA1 at you, the timing can be different. Other than that -no, the timing is all the same.
And parry-mode does help, it'll teach you the parry timing on all moves not just supers and SAs. Either that or worship the TOSF parry video =P
