View Full Version : Question about Ryu & Urien's SA3 (THOSE SA's)

Okay, so I've seen a few people using Urien's Aegis Reflector after grabbing me and hitting me on wakeup-- the same with Ryu's DenjinHadoken (stupid unblockable projectile... at least Ralf's (KOF) GP moves the character with him, giving a fair shot to retaliate)...
So my question is: How can I avoid being cheesed like this? Is there a way to keep a person lying down until after the move is complete? Or do I merely have to take it?

roll when you get thrown by urien and the same with ryu but with ryu if the person is good with it just parry that shit and laugh at them

Okay... Stupid Question #2: How do you roll/roll recover in 3rd Strike? I'm so used to doing it with 2 butons in KOF... I've looked at FAQs and found nothing
Press down when you hit the ground.

Parry the denjin (though difficulty goes from easy to impossible depending on connection speed)
Roll to avoid Aegis (tap down as you are knocked over). This also prevents one of the common "unblockable" setups wherby you launch the Aegis on one side and put Urien on the other thus att acking from both sides.
As for the Urien thing, I think he's talking about:
Shoulder xx F.Aegis Dash Grab
If done right after the power bomb animation is done the opponent will hit the aegis for 2 hits and fly over the head of Urien, which can then lead to more pain, like EX Headbutt -> Punishment, Shoulder -> Punishment --all off a grab =P
So far I'm the only one online that I've played against that does this regularly :badboy: but the easiest way to counter it is by doing a recovery srk, just grab, or any thing like an srk =P But then again that's only if it's a Fierce Aegis, and only if Urien dashes. If you see him dash at you then counter, if not then just block =P

you can't parry the denjin with any sort of regularity against a decent ryu unless you're psychic (which you're not). this applies to offline. unless the denjin is released from over a characters width away, then you have a chance to react and parry but even thats tough if they've charged it up.
so provided they dont do a setup that requires you to red parry a fireball, you either parry on wakeup, a split second after or a split second after the split second you would have done had you expected it to be released just as you get up! oh or it could be thrown behind you!
it's just a guessing game, ,i think the skill comes in not falling for the set up which results in you being on your back with ryu over you. ie after a hurricain mid screen or cancelled dragon in the corner etc , but thats like saying dont get hit at all. 90% of ryus online are shit anyway, well they were back when i used to play, so they always release staright away on wakeup.

Does this work after a grab too? A lot of times, Urien will grab me (main grab, not the one where he holds you up and does damage). This puts him right over me, the perfect spot to launch the Aegis.

yeah that works, but lag makes it tough to tap down at the right time. also decent setups involve knocking you down after being hit by the reflector meaning you can't roll and have to eat the unblockable or die trying to parry it.

Yep it works in that case, when they grab and slam u they always try to do a ghetto unblockable [f+throw, lp aegis, headbutt over you then cmk/f+mk or other attacks to break your guard] u just roll away by pressing down when u land after being slammed, this prevent u to be stuffed into the aegis shit.
If u miss the quick stand after being slammed [it happens too fucking many times in lag] just try a low parry on the aegis then parry the f+mk and throw urien away.

Yeah a good Ryu will throw out a regular fireball xx Denjin, or they will change up the timing on wakeup. Very few use Fankie3s-esque traps that catch you in block stun, and you can still parry those (although again a good Ryu will mix that up as well).
The trick to catching the wakeup fireball is to not hesitate. Stay calm and wait until you hear/see it released, then parry that shit down. If you anticipate that they might delay the release, superjump out of it. Most throw it as soon as you get up though, in that case you just point blank parry it down.
Far standing MPxxLPhadokenxx2hitDenjin is pure evil. :badboy:

Thanks everyone... I guess this means I'll really have to practice my rolls & parries.
You don't need to practice rolling online, most of the time it's horse shit and I'm too lazy to spam down on my pad. =P But if you're not the lazy type just spam down before you fall and you'll just roll up =P

here's a scrub question: is there ever a point where it's to your advantage NOT to quickstand?
Everyone expects a quickstand -so when you don't do one, it messes up their rhythm =) Especially if they're trying to rush you down. Also scrub Ryu's that throw out Denjin's quick miss when I don't quickstand lol. Erm, besides messing up their rhythm and making their SA's -be it random or just bad play miss, I can't think of any other reasons =P

I've surprised a lot of Urien players who try to get my Ryu SAII with that setup. Just super through the reflector on wakeup ;)
Of course once they figure that out, you'll have to do something else :P

Usually no, however I believe it is possible to dash through someone rolling if they're in the corner, so if I throw, lp aegis and then dash and you quickstand, one hit and you're getting hit from both sides (ie, unblockable). I've only done it a few times in the local arcade since I don't usually look for it but I'm sure someone trying to be a prick could pull it off fairly reliably.

at the top of my head, say someone is trying to chip you on wakeup. They anticipate a quick roll so shoot a projectile (projectile super, whatever).. but you are not tech rolling so it will completely whiff you and they just lost meter and you dont have to worry about parrying.

if your asking whether or not a projectile/super will whiff if your still on the ground when they do it, then yes.
For some reason your question doesnt seem clear enough to me right now though.

yes alot of the time its not be cause it leaves you even more open to cross ups, ground cross ups if you quickstand against urien dash they're on the other side of you and you eat cr.fierce i try not to quickstand unless its a throw, or against denjin giving him less time to charge or unless hes kinda far away

Basiclly everybody can groundxup anywhere on the screen. It's just a question of setups.
This should always be kept in mind when quickrising. Just look at the opp. and what he tries to do will rolling up.
Oh and it's really not MASHING down that let's you quickrise. Just tap down twice and you quickrise to avoid that urien-setup.
And I still don't understand what this whole Urien-bitching is all about on live. Ok, i've understood that you feel parrying his random tackles to be hard and so on but really, Urien is slower than a snail. On live he is not top-tier. I mean... If you think that urien is hard without the partitions and all his aegis-setups... What do you do when you play a descent urien irl?
Just rush him down.
