I'm laughing my ass off because Man U got eliminated from European soccer, moreso because my roommate is a big United fan and I root for the Gunners and Inter, both of which are top of their groups. First time in 9 years that Man U failed to qualify for the knockout rounds; I couldn't be happier.

Better yet, they won't even qualify for the UEFA Cup next year (finished dead last in their group), which means NO European competition next year, Man U!

Ummm...no.

Mexico is a pretty damn overrated team. The press always hangs on their balls before the WC, and what happens in the end? They play a very good first round...and choke when the time comes for knockout rounds. It's a simple example in life: lost to Bulgaria via penatly shootout in 1994, lost to Germany in 1998, lost to...the USA in 2002 (of all teams). What makes you think they're gonna be any different in this WC? Proved furthermore by the fact that Lavolpe has NEVER defeated a European team. Hell, he couldn't even beat motherfuckin' ICELAND!

I wish nothing less than Mexico will get their ass kicked badly...hopefully by Angola. Enough of this "we'll get far this year!". Because it aint gonna happen.

Chelsea vs Barcelona:

This time, Barcelona wins it.

Real vs Arsenal:

although they have had a somewhat terrible year, I see Real pulling through this less powerful Arsenal team.

Werder Bremen vs Juventus:

Juventus should win with boring ease

Bayern Munich vs Ac Milan:

Pretty hard to call,id say its like 45-55, so ill side with bayern just cause i dont want too many italian teams in the finals as it seemingly always happens. Plus I hate Vieri.....although seemingly all of Italy hates him too, what with him winning worst footballer of the year award.

PSV vs Lyon:

Junihno free kicks for the Lyon win

Ajax vs Inter:

Inter should pull through here.

Liverpool vs Benfica:

The champs beat the Man U eliminators

Ranger vs Villareal:

Villa, just cause Riquelme is a beast and Im not too fond of scottish soccer (Prso is sick though, should have stayed at Monaco)

I originally predicted Inter to take it all, but Barcelona are too hot now. Im sure Rijkaard's crew have solely revenge on their mind after last year's defeat. But this is Chelsea were talking about, they can pull those victories out of nowhere, which I guess contributes to their danger.

Naw, going 49 games unbeaten is a pretty damn good feat. They just need to get off this thought of importing prospects into the team. I don't know how Owusa-Obeyie is doing ANY good, when they could have bought a big name star, or shelled out more money for the signing of Julio Baptista in the summer. Arsenal will lose all of it's star players if they dont sign people quick.

I doubt Mexico is going to get kicked badly. History doesn't really matter in Soccer, I thought you knew that. There are surprises in this sport, all the time, so I say Mexico is making it to the next round. Mexico should make it to the next round. According to the sports experts, Mexico "should" make it to the next round and I say the same. You are right, maybe they make it to the next round, but then what? I just hope Mexico makes it good this year. Of course is my country and it doesn't really suck when it comes to soccer.

Meh, fuck both Chelsea AND Barcelona. Good thing they face each other so soon, one annoyance less to worry about.

My team is AC Milan, and since they managed to get the tie 1-1 from Bayern Munich in Germany, they are ready to wrap it up in Milan. Then again, AC Milan has been know to commit severe fuck-ups in the past (losing 4-0 to Deportivo La Coruņa after they had a lead in the first game by 4-1, last year's final against Liverpool).

Yeah, i'm hoping for a slip-up from Brazil in the Quarter-finals or Semi-finals.

IF they play a team like Germany or even England, in the latter stages of the competition, then I think maybe they'll struggle and get scored on late in the game for them to be knocked out. -- But from my experiences watching them play on television, that probably will never happen, and they will go on to win it for a sixth time. Much to my displeasure.

EPL roundup--

The English Premier League is almost near it's end being more than half way through the season. Chelsea seems it will run away with the league, and they have such a points advantage that I think they have the luxury of slipping up here and there, to the point that it will go unnoticed.

Manchester United and Liverpool are in a heated battle for second place, with both of the teams tied for points, but with Manchester United having a game at hand to take second place by the end of the season. Liverpool had it's run for the top of the league, but it faltered with them not winning games, the inability to score goals, and thier early FIFA World Club Championship falter, which put un-needed pressure on the club to succeed in the league. I see Manchster United being the only contender for the League, but with the recent form of Chelsea, looks to be an impossible task.

Arsenal, Tottenham, Bolton, and Blackburn --

I see Arsenal pulling the confidence factor they so desperatly need away from home together, to pull a fourth place finish at the end of the season. But with this prediction being heavily generous as they are my favorite club.

Tottenham are in fourth as of late and have a three point lead on Blackburn. I see Tottenham slipping up and dropping down to fifth for a UEFA Cup place. Behind Arsenal, the cross town rivals ofcourse. :arazz:

Bolton is doing extremely well this year, beating top clubs like Arsenal and pushing all the buttons of the clubs who once saw them as an easy win. I see them falling to 6th place at the end of the season.

Blackburn are doing considerably well for themselves, having a great season, and with thier win at home against Arsenal will have them taking seventh for the other UEFA Cup slot.

The rest of my EPL Roundup will be concluded in a further post, as I need some sleep atm.

- Arsenal 0 - Real Madrid 0 (1-0)
- Milan 4 - Bayern Munich 1 (5-2)
- O.Lyon 4 - PSV 0 (5-0)
- Liverpool 0 - Benfica 2 (0-3)

Real Madrid being sent off is always amusing.

My team, AC Milan, virtually destroyed those uppity Muncich bastards. It was totally ironic how 3 minutes after Shevchenko missed a penalty kick (and was literally eaten alive by Kahn), Shevchenko scores a goal, basically ordering Kahn to STFU.

And well, the champion, Liverpool, has fallen. Good riddance.

I don't know why people bitch and moan so much about the Italian teams and national team being the ones who play the most defensive game in the whole world. Greece did it to win the last Euro, and now Arsenal (a British team) is doing it to advance in the Champions. And they have done the same thing against Real Madrid and Juventus, too.

BTW, Arsenal has tied a record for consecutive CL games without receiving a single goal (10), which belongs to Ajax during the 80's.

Oh well, I hope Milan somehow pulls a miracle and beats Barcelona, but it seems really uphill.

It's Lille's own fault. If they don't ask for a barrier, the opposition has all the right to shoot early. It happens every once in a while. That's why most players nowadays stand in front of the ball when a foul is called, to avoid being "surprised".

When the Barcelona players stop acting like prima donnas, MAYBE they can get their act together in Anfield. But that's a huge IF. Rafael Benitez has Barcelona's number.

It's by goal-average, I believe. Right now, AZ has +7, Ajax has +1, and PSV is dead even. PSV doesn't need to worry about Ajax, but about AZ. Basically, what PSV needs to win and AZ must tie/lose, or PSV can tie but AZ needs to lose.

Kinda hard, if ya ask me....

What's so crazy about 10 man chelsea allmost beating arsenal?
arsenal had nothing to play for NOTHING AT ALL, they allready qualified for the runners up leauge they're a team of kids they're tired, i'm surprised chelsea didn't give them a royal spanking, i suppose you got to take your hat off to arsenal it's the one thing arsenal have to look back on this season as opposed to actually WINNING something.

And what's so crazy about AC milan thumping man u?, Ac milan rested shitloads of players, man u couldn't really do that as they're going for 3 trophys, man u squad is wafer thin, they took a very bad score line over to milan, they decided to play vidich who clearly was not fit, as dissapointed as i am with man u getting knocked out you could see it coming a mile away

player of the season, we all know ronaldo won it and i'd sort of agree he has been great this year, but i think berbatov has been my player of the season, the man does not run or walk he GLIDES most exciting player since zola or le tissier

L4undry
05-08-2007, 11:22 AM
You watch Berbatov's volley against Boro on the weekend? He was probably at his best that match.

But Ronaldo for sure gets that award. He's carried Man U so far this season and did what he could. Just on pure merit, he deserves it for what he's done this season for the team. Then there's his sublime skill on the ball. It takes two, sometimes three defenders to even catch him.

So Mexico beat Brazil 2-0. Both teams lacked a few players, but even then Mexico used a whole differant line-up (besides a few players) seemed like they played pretty well. I wonder how that squad would have faired to the full Brazil team. But stupid Nery Castillo missed that last shot horribly, the guy is good, but tries to do way too much on his own.

Manny_O

Is anyone else watching the Copa America? Paraguay just raped Colombia 5-0, Santa Cruz had a hat trick. It really does look like Argentina's going to win it all especially after Brasil's loss. Brasil did have a goal disallowed though which could've changed the game completely because it would've been the first and the game would've been played completely different if it hadn't been disallowed. They're showing all the matches live on Telefutura if anyone was interested, Argentina's about to play the US.

Mourinho has been sacked by Chelsea.

Bad move on all counts, they got ManU on the Weekend, that game could perhaps go really bad.

This is the case of the bigger guys being childish, namely Abramovich, that fool thinks he can run a team.
I think his already got his puppet set up to take over, that grant? guy or whatever you know the one Mourinho didnt like.

He wants Chelsea to play like Arsenal, is he crazy, they have younger players that are trained from the word go to play like that.

Not like Chelsea where you have 30 somethings who cant run and only score against weak 1st division teams cough Shevchenko.

Which is a player who I think is one of the problems Mourinho/Abramovich had with each other, clearly Mourinho did not buy him there.

5 major trophies in 3 years what more can you ask for, Abramovich is deluded he wants the CL so bad, too bad Chelsea just cant beat Liverpool :P

I think they will probably go after that Russian manger forget his name but I know his good and if They dont quailfy for next year he might leave.

The question is will he do what Abramovich wants, maybe for that kinda money why not.

I would still expect Chelsea to finish in the top4 only because Spurs and Newcastle are failing real hard this season, but Im not sure if they will win anything, time will tell.

Id like to add that Mourinho made english football and MOTD interesting, I luved watching him moan and bitch, he defently added some spice to the league.

Now its back to the boring old farts Wenger and Ferguson:tdown:

Atletico Madrid sounded like a pretty viable option, but something went awry and now Riquelme is stuck in a team where neither the coach nor the fans want him in (I swear, I saw some training sessions in Villareal where the crowd would talk shit at Riquelme whenever he passed by).

-riquelme deserves to be benched. Having choked two years ago in the semis of the champs league took out his passion for european football really, and he hasn't been the same at all. Argentina losing copa despite owning everybody as they got there doesnt help either.

-Capello prob next coach for Chelsea

so, England didn't qualify for the Euro....

Needless to say, I was shocked, though they were a bit too overconfident in their table and ended up paying a terrible price. Well actually,Steve Mclaren got it worst, since he got fired this morning as head coach (possibly Capello as a replacement? oh boy, dunno if the Italian mindset is gonna fit in with the English players).

Im interested in hearing people's thoughts on England's shame (espeically from the England Srk users) and early predictions for the Euro now that the qualifying is done.

The Electrifying One
11-22-2007, 04:35 PM
Freddy, this is what I posted at NeoEmpire

I know what you're saying Ryan, England should have qualified given the group. Yes, the buck has to stope somewhere, and yes, Mclaren should not be in charge. I just think that the whole "get rid of X and replace with Y" tactic to fix our team has gone on FAR too long. England have played consistently poor football for as long as I can remember. I can count on one hand the number of times we've played well in my lifetime, in competitive games.

vs Germany, Italia '90
England 4-1 Holland (Euro '96)
Germany 1-5 England (even then, it was more to do with joke defending on both sides)
vs Croatia, Euro 2004

It's time to stop thinking swapping a few names around will make England a good team. There is something fundamentally wrong with the way the England team plays their football, imho. If this has been the case with Taylor, Venables, Keegan, Hoddle, Sven and McLaren, and with about 200 different English players, I think it's more than the personnel.

It's also time everyone stopped acting like England are a top team just because the premiership is good, and the players in the team are celebrities. Doesn't matter how many 'big' names are in the squad, ENgland don't get the results. Croatia are HIGHER than England in the FIFA rankings, and a better team, but how much respect was shown for them? Mans were saying on Talksport 'it's just Croatia, we'll win 3-0'. Israel haven't lost at home for 3 years, yet Mclaren was booed for getting a draw there.

I agree Mclaren isn't a great manager, and I'm glad he's gone. I just think anything short of Capello, Lippi, or possibly Mourinho will lead to more of the same.

Bottom line: There are fewer than 60 Englishmen getting regular top flight football played. A disproportionate amount of these are centre backs. I'm not into the idea of FORCING teams to play people from a certian country, or limiting foreigners, but Mclaren didn't have many choices to make. Terry, A.Cole. Ferdinand, G.Neville, Rooney AND Owen were all unavailable, Hargreaves and Beckham were only half fit. He played the best team he could really, just got the tactics wrong.

Not good enough, but we were beaten by a better team. We finished on the same points as Israel, and I think that is about as good as England are. Sad but true.

Lantis
11-22-2007, 10:29 PM
Mourinho should be the natural successor to the British coach seat. He knows the British league all too well. The coldest thing of it all was that Croatia WAS ALREADY QUALIFIED, and they STILL beat that Brit ass. DAYUM! :looney:

Didnt think anyone on SRK would give a crap about this.

Anyway We got what we deserved, Im sorry but England didn't just play crap that day, they played shit the entire campaign, we didnt deserve to go through.

Mistakes in that match

Why was Carson in goal? I know Robinson was butter fingers at the mo, but you replace him with Carson who has never played in an offical competive game before, well done at totally crushing his soul and career.

Davd James is not so great but he has been playing well for Portsmouth, plus his played for England many times. The sick truth is English goal keeping has never been so bad right now, since Seamen was the last great english goal keeper, after that its all been shit really, and it looks like it will be that way for some time.

The whole back line? who were they? they never played together before and you'd have to say at the highest level they look out of place, Bridge jesus that guy was a joke he almost scored a brillant own goal, Lescott are you kidding me? Campbell sorry his way past it showed his age bad, Richards still young and didnt have the Guidance he usually gets with the players that were missing, like Rio and Terry.

Also the fact that Mclaren drove away one of Englands best defenders and made him retire because he never picked him at all, which was Jamie Carragher.

When will people learn that Lampard and Gerrard can not play well together, they cancel each other out.

What the hell happened to the passion? i couldn'y believe what I was seeing it was like none of players cared, it was a game where England had to win, but the way they were playing was like it didnt mean anything, after watch Scotland put their heart and souls into trying to beat Italy and then seeing that I was well shocked, to me that was the most Embarrassing thing of all, such a flat performance.

When I was younger I used to think players played for their country for pride and didnt get paid for it, of course now Im older I realize that they still get paid stupid amounts of money when they play for England as well.

I dont feel sorry for them one bit since they go home to their mansions and big cars etc, im sure they sleep alot easier than us at night, while everyone else went home in the rain after spending 50quid on tickets to watch crap.

Im glad we didn't get through because it would have covered up the cracks that have been in english football for along time.

Golden Generation lol dont make me laugh Over Paid Generation you mean, you can obviously see who plays for cash now.

Like EO says you can change the manager over and over but unless the players fix up then it wont matter, none of these players play like that for their clubs so I dont get it.

Also the FA need to scrap looking for an English man for the job, an english manager has never won the premier league.

Mclaren won some mickey mouse cup had a lucky run in the uefa cup and then get destoryed in the final and it looks like Middlesbrough will be going down this season anyway.

Then you have Big Sam, what the hell has he won? NOTHING, not even the micky mouse cups, i dunno why he gets so much praise, his an ok manager but they over do it hyping him up, he hasn't won shit, his time at Newcastle will end badly, although newcastle are another team like England clinging onto past teams that were good, when the truth is their just not good enough.

England are heading into the dark ages where Scotland were a few years ago I can see thats what will happen depending on what the FA do next.

To be honest I stopped caring about England after the Euro96, its always the same, beat the easy teams no problem, first team we play that can give us a problem and were out, same old story.

The only really bad thing is that this is the first time since the 80s I think that not one British side has not made it to a major, I mean atleast usually we have the Scotts or Irish to cheer on, not this time, summer will be shit for sure here now.

Giggs is a Welsh Legend and would never miss. Anelka had a strange face on before he took his, maybe he psyched himself up too much? Either way, when a shootout goes to sudden death and the keeper makes a save, he's gonna be the hero.

Couldnt believe the fucking Chairman was the first to lift the trophy though.
