So, seeing how some of you people who post here are slightly interested in soccer, i thought why not make a thread.
So, here it goes!
I really think that Liverpool should have the chance to enter the Champions League next season, it would be really stupid if they werent allowed to defend thier trophy. I am willing to bet that Essien will will be going to Manchester United during the transfer window, and that Baros will be going to Valencia.
So, give me some of your thoughts on the soccer or should i say 'football' world.

I'm a huge Man U Beckham created whore. I'm really disappointed by the season they had, but better luck next season I guess. I also go see all the chinese super league matches in Shanghai. Other than that I don't know what to do about the liverpool situation it's rather complicated and it would be quite strange to have the champions not be able to defend their title.

I totally agree with you on Mourhino, i think he is a little to cocky calling himself 'the special one' the only reason Chelsea won the premiership is becasue of Roman Ambromovich pumping millions into getting a star studded team, not because of Mourhino's managerial skills.

Hey, my team just won the Champions league so it's all good. What an amazing match. After the game was over I downloaded it and burned it straight to DVD.
I hope Baros doesn't leave Liverpool, or else my Liverpool jersey will be obsolete. As for them not being able to defend their victory, that has got to be one of the worst ideas ever.
As for current soccer events, I'm just curious as to where you guys think certain national teams will go on their journey to Germany in 2006. I'm cheering for The Netherlands and Denmark. The Netherlands should be able to make it this year(Romania is their only competition), and Denmark I'm worried about a little.
EDIT: The Netherlands are playing Romania on Saturday, so it should be a good game.

Brazil might not do so hot now that the head coach is threatening to remove Ronaldo from the roster if he doesn't play in the upcoming Confederations Cup, England, USA, France, Czech Republic, Italy, and Ireland will all be tough nuts to crack also.
Im hoping that the USA will do better than they did while playing England on Saturday in thier WCQ matches.

I'm a big fan of Arsenal, especially their domination of last EPL season. I was really pulling for them this season, but Chelsea was crazy. They're win over Man U for the FA Cup was huge. Van Persie, Henry, Bergkamp, and Reyes are all excellent strikers. They have good mids in Vierra and Ljumgberg, as well as the rest of the cast.
Nice avatar Liquid Fists.

Thanks, i could make one for you if you'd like? just tell me the names of three people you want on it.
And yes, they did have a excellent last season going unebeaten, they were horrible for a little while during this season while Giberto and some others were injured. The only reason Chelsea tied them at the beginning of the season was because of Almunia, he isn't even comparible with the likes of Jens Lehmann.
I hope Bergkamp can make a short 1 or 2 year deal and stay with them so they have a chance at the Champions league next season. Arsene needs to bring in some big name defenders to back up Sol Cambell, Ashley Cole, Lauren, and Toure while they are benched, or resting.

:wtf: What the fuckin' hell are you smokin'?
Mexico in the SEMIS in a World Cup? They couldn't even pass the quarterfinal round in the 2 World Cups that were hosted here (Mexico). It's just a matter of this: when Mexico faces a match against a big team in an elimination match, they choke. Sure, they can do pretty good first rounds because they actually have options (tie to this team and defeat the other team), but when the knockout rounds start...it's there were their true suckiness pops up. I love it because the Mexican media likes to hype them up to no tomorrow, and they end up giving rather shitty performances the next you see 'em.
USA 94? Mexico ends 1-1 with Bulgaria and gets kicked out in their "curse": penalty kicks.
France 98? They end up losing to Germany cuz their fuckin' defenders are 5'7" and German attackers are 6'4". Death by Air Raid.
Korea/Japan 2002? I find this funny because some idiot reporter actually posted them as favorites for WINNING THE WORLD CUP, and guess who they lost to? The United States. I swore I never laughed so hard amidst the grief of a nation. Gotta love being an American in Mexico, I tell ya.

Haha, Real Madrid has been linked to supposedly wanting Rafael Benitez instead of Luxembergo. If Rafa goes to Real Madrid, i will lose all respect for him, seeing how he will get a fat ammount of cash for the tranfer market this summer so he can easily attract big name players.
Liverpool want's Shaun Wright-Phillips, Manchester United are rumored to want Gianluigi Buffon, Celtic want Robbie Keane, and Andy Johnson has reportedly stated that he will leave Crystal Palace for either Liverpool, Tottenham, or Newcastle.

I tried to follow the Mexican league, but i never get to see any games, all i can catch is a glimpse here and there on Fox Sports Report. Claudio Lopez is one of my favorite strikers, i hope he can do well in the World Cup, which will probably be his last seeing how he's getting up there in age.

It's weird, but they say this is the first actual title won by "Piojo". It's funny because Lopez has been around in successful teams in Italy and Spain and yet he never won a title? Must be kinda like Batistuta in that aspect....
Liquid Fists

But Batistuta won the league with AS Roma in 2000, and yeah Batistuta was with Old Boys, River, Boca, Roma, Inter Milan and then i don't know why he would go to Qatar, but he did. He had quite a career i must say.

But Real Madrid needs to quit thier ego-tripping and win a damn championship next season. Figo, Beckham, Owen, Ronaldo, Raul, Raul Bravo, Zidane, Cassilas, and Roberto Carlos are some of the biggest names in football, but yet they cant win a championship, pathetic.
Manchester United might get the boot from Nike as it's shirt sponsor for lack of success, and they might lose vodafone if the fans boycott it like they say they are going to. Liverpool should not be allowed to defend their cup. Yes, fairytales do sound more nice than the alternative, but the fact is rules are rules. That Welsh side offering them the qualification battle is regardless of the point, its against the rules.
And Manchester never looked like improving. This is coming from a ManU fan. I don't see them improving until something radical kicks in next next season. They've been disappointing for a long time now. Yes, they did deserve to win the FA cup but the point is.. they didn't~

Chelsea will offer Barcelona Hernan Crespo for striker Samuel Eto'o, Crespo wants to stay at AC Milan but they are not going to sign him for they think he costs to much money.
Yeah, Manchester United is doing terrible at the moment. I hope Fergie will be sacked, the club needs new life, and with having the same manager for 18 some years, they need to get rid of him and find somebody else.

Real Madrid is the Yankees/Lakers of soccer...a team with probably the highest payroll in the whole world of soccer (don't let Abrahmovic's wealth fool you, I don't see too many stars in the Chelsea lineup, and where is the proverbial striker? Drogba? Pfffft! ). Admittingly, Real Madrid pulled out an incredible streak at the end of the season (they even defeated Barcelona). Problem was that Barcelona was doing the same thing, and they ended up with the league. Hah hah, they pulled Morientes back from AS Monaco because they were jealous that Morientes was the one who kicked them out of the Champions last year, and yet they benched him AGAIN! Priceless!
AkumaTX: Hah hah! Yeah, America is one of those hate/love teams. I virtually love it because there is this sports commentator on this channel who REALLY despises America, and was giving them lots of grief during the playoffs (saying that their next rival would kick their ass and so forth), and in the end, America wins the title! I was so glad that they shut his mouth, for real!
And on a side note, Monterrey was the only team that defeated America in the whole season! America didn't even lose in the playoffs!
As for the next World Cup...I'm always skeptical of which team is the favorite. Brazil always seems to be good considering their lineup (Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Kaka are damn scary by themselves), Argentina always plays a good qualification round but then fucks up in the WC, then you have Italy, England, Germany (their game is shitty but they WILL be the home team), France (but they are getting lamer now), the highly overrated Spain. I think Czech Republic will make a splash next year, their game hasn't slipped. I dunno about Greece...I would like to see how they play against the Latin style.
I guess we'll have to see until the Confederation Cup begins next month. The best teams in the world are playing there, and will kinda be like the training kernel for the World Cup, assuming that all the teams will bring forth their star power.

Well, compared to Casillas, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Raul, Beckham, Zidane, Figo, Gravesen, and Owen, Chelsea's lineup kinda seems like "second tier". The thing is also that Madrid's star players also have a good rep in their national teams, which are also top tier (Brazil, England, France...Spain and Portugal to some extent). Players like Drogba and Gudjohnson will have a hard time shining in other place than Chelsea.
Liquid Fists

I think everyone is "second tier" compared to Arsenal, i mean with Henry, Reyes, vanPersie, Bergkamp, Pires, Fabregas, Viera, Gilberto, Ljungberg, Cole, Cambell, Toure, and Lauren. They just seem to choke against some of the bigger European clubs, and they also choke on the eve of a big match, like Man United, or Chelsea, thier defense crumbles late on and they get scored on within the last 15 minutes of every big game it seems like.
Lantis
05-30-2005, 10:12 AM
 at Bergkamp. That guy was all over the place a few years ago as the star of the Dutch team and Arsenal, and now suddenly Van Nistelrooy steals his thunder. The guy still has a very scary face, though.
BTW, do you guys also play soccer games? My personal fave is the Winning Eleven series (ever since the SNES days when it was dubbed International Superstar Soccer). I dunno, whereas it lacks the sponsorship of the FIFA games, it makes up in realism, and sorta "feels" better than FIFA. Not to mention that a) there is always edit mode to change players names and such and b) I kinda hate EA.

Im playing FIFA 2005 right now, nut i hate how you cant customize teams uniforms and what not. and the fact that they give you non sponsored shoes for creating players is ridiculous, pure laziness. They get all the shirt sponsors to comply. but they forget the shoes.

Yes, they should be allowed to participate in the up and coming CL. Liverpool's inclusion doesn't have to be at the cost of another team though. UEFA could simply expand the qualifying stages to allow Liverpool a slot.
I've no idea why they changed this rule in the first place. I remember when Nottingham Forest won the league title and Liverpool won the European cup, the following season Forest and Liverpool were both in the competition, one as the League champions and the other as the Cup holders.
If UEFA makes the right decision here, nobody is going to get thrown out, possibly Arsenal may have to play a qualifier but that's all.
The Champions have to be allowed to defend their trophy, even if the rules, which aren't that good anyway, have to be changed. Personally I believe that winning the trophy is slightly more important than finishing 4th in the Premiership anyway.

The current system is too much of a lottery in my opinion. The old European Cup featured the best teams from each nation. It was sudden death so no margin for error, thus it tended to be won by the best teams.
New Runners-Up Cup, features the richest teams from each nation. It has multiple escape clauses to ensure that the rich get richer at the expense of everyone else as teams can afford to slip up more than once. Thus this one tends to be won by the best coaches (tacticians).
Like the guy or not, Maurinho qualifies (as does Rafa) and Demento and Wenger don't. Arsenal are without doubt the best pure footballing side in the Prem but they only have one gameplan. There is no plan B when it doesn't work, let alone plan C. There is still hope of course as Man U pulled it off in '99 despite being tactically outclassed in my view all throughout the competition.
So basically Liverpool will again be English favourites (if allowed to defend it) along with Chelsea and I'd actually put Everton 3rd because both they and Moyes are an unknown quantity. Man U and Arsenal are the outsiders for next season even though most would deny it seeing as how the english media brandishes them as their "top" teams.

Craziest fans:
- Argentina: Already mentioned. Watch a game of the Argentina league and you'll probably see HUGE crowds with lights and color papers flying everywhere, HUGE flags that probably cover up one side of the stadium, depicted drawings of star players, etc. These are called the "bravas", a kind of soccer lifestyle which involves heavy fanboyism. Hell, these fans are so crazy that they even created a religion revolving around Maradona! Chants also involve messages of "my team is my life!" or "victory or death!". Crazy, crazy crap.
- Italy: The so-called "tifosi". Anybody who watched the recent Inter-AC Milan game from the Champions can see this. Don't EVER put teams from the same city against each other, or shit flies.
- England: Land of the infamous "hooligans". Although in my seeing, even though they started to pop up at the unfortunate Liverpool-Juventus incident in Heyssel 20 years ago, I see them a lot more in England matches than actual club matches. I've seen recent Premiership games and it's more like more chanting and less ruckus. Maybe it's a national team thing now?

There is no way Everton will repeat their 4th position again next season. I'd expect Chelsea to win again, with Man Utd and Arsenal battling it out for 2nd/3rd (as long as Henry and Vieira stay fit). Liverpool might challenge Arsenal and Man Utd and may finish 3rd if they get lucky or make some good signings over the summer (i.e. a goalkeeper who isn't a clown / cripple and someone to replace Traore).
As for the hooliganism thing, nowadays it's no worse than what goes on in other countries. Fans from Italian sides have been far worse in recent years, but England gets a bad rep for a very small minority. Some people do go to football matches to fight, but they mainly keep it within a small minority who also want to fight (not a wholly accurate portrayal, but watch the film "Football Factory"). If you are a real football fan, you go to the game, watch the match and head to the pub afterwards for some 'playful' banter.

Chelsea will lose the premiership next season. If Arsenal players can stay fit they will win it with ease. Chelsea only caught up to Arsenal because of injuries. and because Arsenal had a dry spell in the middle of the season while Gilberto and Viera were injured/unfit.

As long as Ferguson is in charge, I doubt those players will leave Man Utd. I'd expect them to stay for at least one more season. I don't doubt that Arsenal will challenge, but the fact that Chelsea won the league without an out-and-out goalscorer speaks volumes. Arsenal, on the other hand rely heavily on Henry (and to a lesser extent Pires / Ljungberg). If Chelsea actually had a striker who was a guaranteed 25+ goals a season, coupled with the best defence (and goalkeeper) I can see them running away with it, again. Chelsea won the league because they were good (not lucky), Arsenal lost the league because they weren't as good (not because they were unlucky).
The whole Glazer thing, I think we will just have to wait and see. What pisses off a lot of supporters is that he just hasn't been clear about his intentions. I can only imagine a small amount of people who would boycott sponsors products, which are way outnumbered by the vast majority of armchair fans around the world. Fans were ripping up season ticket renewal forms etc, but do you know how long the list is for people who would pay any amount of money for one of them?
Liquid Fists

Chelsea may be good, but they certainly arent the best. Jose Mourhino needs to lay off the "special one" crap and think that maybe he won the premiership because of Roman Ambromovich's money attracting big names. I mean i think they hauled in 7 big name players last summer.

If by Pro Evo you mean the Winning Eleven series, then yes, I do play it.
Javidjin: The next big tournament coming up is the Confederation Cup, which is kinda like a mini-World Cup of sorts. They take the champion of each federation to face each other. So you have:
1) World Champion: Brazil
2) European Champion: Greece
3) Asian Champion: Japan
4) African Champion: Tunisia
5) North American Champion: Mexico
6) Australia (they are always the champions of that area where they are in)
Then you have the host country, Germany.
And since Brazil also won the South American championship, they're taking the second place instead (Argentina).
It's gonna be pretty interesting since most national teams are gonna take this chance to test their strengths before the World Cup comes around.
And then you have the American version of the Champions (Copa Libertadores) which is in the quarterfinal round right now.

Sorry, but Arsenal won't be in the running for the league next season. Maybe up until christmas break, or just after, but not towards the end.
And ManU's high profile players leaving (if it happens) will be nothing to do with the takeover. Even if they happen to hint as that being the reason, they're liars. The lure of glorified Italian and Spanish leagues will be the key. Thats it.

I beg to differ my friend.
Arsenal will be top of the league next season, why?
Because Arsene Wenger is looking for big name players to back up for injuries and what not. Also just incase someone pulls a fast one and leaves mid season through the transfer window. Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell LAuren and Toure have all stated they are staying, that leaves a nice back 4 with replacements if needed in Cygan and Sendoras. Cesc Fabregas is growing into one hell of a player, and only at 18 he has a lot of time to progress. Giblerto, Viera, and Ljungberg are most likely going to stay. With Pires questioning his loyalty to the club, might leave this summer, but who cares when you have Gilberto and Fabregas that can play winger just as well. Henry, Reyes, and v. Persie are all reportedly staying through out the summer, with Bergkamp in question. But with Van Persie now turining into one hell of a striker, they have more than enough talent to make up for his loss.

Liquid Fists: I disagree about Arsenal being top of the Premiership next season.
Why? Chelsea have so many players, they could put out 2 completely different teams and still challenge. If they buy a decent striker and their defence stays the same (i.e. the best in the Premiership) how could Arsenal stop them? They won't suddenly be able to make up such a large points difference without making some good purchases. Van Persie has been thoroughly average, Reyes blows hot and cold, Campbell is constantly getting injured, Lehmann is a clown and Arsenal have a relatively small squad. Chelsea on the other hand, have a stable defence, a great midfield and the potential to have a great strike force. The same just can't be said about Arsenal anymore, IMO.

Arsenal has a serious problem in the back field. They have no dependable goalie...admit it Alumina sometimes is on point other times it's like he's asleep. Sol Campbell is getting non-stop injuries lately the latest being in the usa/england friendly where he ganked his ankle. Cygan is a piece of garbage in the way he is just outright careless. Lauren is not dependable and sometimes seems to just be jogging around out of position. Ashley Cole is a straight up defender, but sometimes has disciplinary problems or just decides to take a two footed tackle on someone. That's what I call a problem with the back four.

OK, one by one.
Vieira most prolly will stay. Has he got the same influence when he was being pursued by Madrid and was proclaimed best midfielde? Not by far. Has wittled down in terms of presence on matches same way as Roy Keane.
Your back 4 are quite good, yes. However thats only the first choice back four. If you think Cygan and Senderos are good enough as cover for a championship winning side over the whole league... well, I know you don't really think that.
Fabregas is looking good for an 18 year old, but depending on 18 year olds for results does not happen, especially for league games whee consistency is the key. If you were to rate youngsters as being truly valuable, I guess you're looking long term. As in the next few seasons. I doubt he would make the same impact Rooney (or even Ronaldo) has made, for his age.
Heny and Reyes are very nice, bt only Henry I would depend on for goals. With Reyes STILL finding it hard to adapt to the physical nature (any disagree'ers can suck it) how can you say you have enough depth for an entire season??
Compare it with Chelsea's depth.. sorry, little to no chance.

Hah hah...Lehmann got booed out of his ass during the first game that took place in the shiny Allianz Arena in Munich (which will be used for World Cup purposes). The game was Germany vs. Bayern Munich. Lehmann was the goalkeeper of Germany, while Kahn was goalkeeper for Bayern. Now, it seems these 2 guys have some issues between each other for being the first goalkeeper of the national squad of Germany, and it seems like the crowd doesn't like Lehmann, or prefers Kahn, or who knows...

Tigres too.
On Boca:
Terrible, terrible game. They were also playing terrible. And that's not an excuse. Look at the spanking they gave Pachuca a couple weeks ago, they were playing ok then. Boca's a wierd team, they'll play way shitty one day and play good another, but it's not like other teams. It's really dramatic with them. It seemed like they just didn't want to play. Chivas had some nice goals too though. Boca wasn't there, and now they'll pay for it. Even if we do win 4-0 in Beunos Aires, penalities are killer.
I don't think Banfield will be able to hold up at River Plate, either.
Argentina and Ecuador this sat. and Brazil in two weeks. We don't even have a good national team, sad year.

I'm sorta "meh" towards Tigres. Believe it or not, Tigres hasn't won a major title in Mexico for like 10 years. They are a solid mid-tier team here in Mexico, and they are also well known becuse they play great at home, but are pretty shitty when they play away from it. Mexican participation in the Copa Libertadores is pretty weird...they just grab a handful of teams, pit them in a tournament, and the first 3 teams go to the Libertadores...bizarre, eh?
Well, it's Santos, River Plate, Guadalajara, and Sao Paulo in the semifinals, apparently....

World Cup qualifiers are 3 years long. I'm sure Europe's qualifiers are the same.
@ Lantis:
Of all the highlights i watched when i was in Argentina in Feb/Mar, Tigres stuck out as scoring a lot of goals, fast ones too. I thought Tigres would be a big threat in the later rounds. As a european fan, it would be interesting to get the opinions of football fans who live in the Americas. Who are the star players in North / Central / South America at the moment. I know all about the top european players, but who is likely to be able to make the grade when they sign for a european club? In recent years many South American players have been billed as the next Pele or Maradona, but they always seem to come up short. Palermo, Saviola, Riquelme, Aimar, D'Alessandro, etc. Really only Kaka and Ronaldinho of recent years have proven to be the real deal, and even then Ronaldinho struggled at PSG. Robinho looks class, but then so did Tevez and Cavenaghi, and look what has happened to them.
Anyone like to share some insight?

 That match really proved how Argentina fans are really just vandals. I mean, some random fan jumped in, attempted to punch Bautista, and then ran away and jumped back out again with just ONE cop trailing his ass...and the stupid fuck didn't even catch him. Although I fear for Chivas, it seems that they are currently in some trouble with FIFA since most of their players are playing for Mexico in the Confederations Cup, and they won't lend their players back to Chivas for the semifinals, which begins next week.
GG: I dunno, Robinho (currenltly playing in Santos) is supposed to be the current shit now...him, and Marcelinho (who was just named the best player of the German league playing for Hertha Berlin, and he STILL doesn't get called to play with Brazil). Then there is Ronaldinho, Kaka, Kily Gonzalez, Riquelme, Saviola, Forlan, Tresor Moreno and the seasoned stars like Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, and Crespo. Palermo was always a dud...his claim for fame is the 3 penalties he missed in ONE GAME against Colombia! But yeah...it almost always seems to be a given that American players who travel over to Europe ALWAYS struggle in their first seasons...but then they take off. Riquelme didn't start all that good in Spain, either....
As for Central American players...I don't think there are any names worth mentioning. Their players either play for very crappy leagues, or play in second-rated European teams. The last important name that popped up there was Yorke who played for Manchester United a while ago.
As for North American players...only names that bear mentioning are Rafa Marquez from Mexico and Landon Donovan from US.

Thanks Lantis for the info, but I know about all those guys as they are all established "stars" now. I was hoping you could tip me off on future prospects. River Plate, Boca Juniors, Corinthians, Cruzeiro, Santos, Palmeiras and many more always seem to bring through good palyers. Who are the top scorers in the Argentine and Brazillian leagues? What abotu Javier Maschareno? I have heard he is supposed to be brilliant, but I haven't seen too much of him. Same with Carlos Tevez. Didn't he sign for Corinthians or some gayness like that? He was being bigged up to be some sort of god. What's he really like?

I lived in England for 14 years before I came over here in '02 so I'd have no problem with it. And there's no way Landon would earn more money over here than playing for a team like Leverkusen(sp). Either way Donovan's actions seem to be a tremendous cop-out, probably cos he wasn't getting 1st team football, or because the pace of the European game is a lot faster than it is over here.
Which ever it was I just can't respect it, especially when you have a guy like Brian Mcbride, who went through much of the same throughout this season, not playing many games at all and playing in one of, if not the fastest football league in europe and STILL
sticking at it.
Also on the subject Riquelme and the others. most of these guys particularly Riquelme were bing played out of postion and which different roles than they were used to. If you ever watch old Boca games you see alotta similarities between Riquelme there and his current role at Villareal. So it's not that he "couldn't cut it" Barce managers made the mistake of getting the best out of the players. sad really.

I saw the game...I laughed my damn ass off. Once again, Mexico proves how they just LOVE to choke under pressure. Just look at the last 3 World Cups, or the last America Cup...they play kickass first round, but when entering an elimination round...they suck. They choke. They even had the lead today IN FUCKIN' OVERTIME...and they blew it. And lo and behold...they lost in penalties AGAIN! Heh heh, that will add to the ancient legend that Mexico is cursed in penalties...I think it will run as long as the Boston Red Sox curse.
The mexicans sent home were Aaron Galindo and Salvador Carmona...what's weird is that the directives had told the press that it wasn't because of doping off the bat, but then the FIFA demanded an explanation, and that's where the doping shit came out. Ha ha, suckers.

Conditions? Then they would have gone against the players of Chivas, what with all their permissions to go play the Copa Libertadores and shit. Salary? Then they should have expelled Rafa Marquez, who is the only player who is in an European team right now (and in Barcelona, no less).
It was said that it was due to "disciplinary issues" which can only lead to 2 reasons: doping or "partying". And I'm pretty sure it's official that it was due to doping.

Mexico loses to Argentina due to PK's. I'm not suprised due to the fact that Mexico isn't very good with Penalties. And you could sorta notice the lack of Penalty experience in Oswaldo Sanchez (the keeper).
As for the 2 players from Mexico that were sent home is was due to failure in drug testing if i'm correct. Thankfully they were sent home before FIFA had gotten their chance at them. Cuz if FIFA had found out first who knows what type of punishment they would've recieved

If it was doping they wouldn't have been merely sent home, the Mexican FA would have done alot more. Not only that FIFA would have probably done something aswell, as it a FIFA tournament.
Partying is a possibility, but I've asked alot of hispanics who I play soccer with, nobody knows for sure but there was a mention of money and "conditions"
Edit: NVM it was banned substances

Brilliant games today, I watched both of them and they were both awesome matches. I knew Brazil was going to pull through and win the Confederations cup. Argentina just lacked offensive pressure, and they paid for it in the end. Aimar had an awesome goal though. But Adriano is a forced to be reckoned with, scoring two goals against Germany, and then to go and score two more goals in the final! I think Ronaldo better up his performance if he wants to stay on the Brazilian team.

Just cause I love soccer, and any news can be entertaining.
With Gerrard officially staying, and Figo hopefully joining, Liverpool will certainely be the team to watch (Morientes will also have to prove himself fully), as the champs will have most eyes on them as defending champs or chumps.
Crespo sucks, and Chelsea got screwed in the Milan deal, too bad Tores couldnt go to chelsea.
Glazer : wait and see, although my intial perception hasnt really changed: it doesnt look good.
Poor Real, they've been trying forever to get Robhino, now they have to wait once again.... Oh and It seems thir getting rid of Solari and Samuel (the later didnt have a good year true, but he is really good). Nevetheless, Inter is gonn a be a force to be reckoned with, especially now that they got rid of Vieri, in favor of a far more capable Martins.
Arsenal : uh oh. They still havent done shit all to save their situation
As for world cup qualifiers, if things remain the same, France and Greece wont make it.
And Brazil has the best team its had in years, they are too good.

Figo is over the hill, Liverpool need to should be looking elsewhere if they want to seriously challege for any titles this coming season. Really they shoulda sold Gerrard and used the $80-90 million dollars they would have got to rebuild the team.
I'll never understand why people say Crespo sucks, he had a decent season at Chealsea 2 years ago and a great one in Milan last year even though he didn't win anything.
I'm a ManU fan the whole Glazer thing has pissed me off, however the recent interview one of the sons did has reassured me a little.
I hate Arsenal. so the longer they go without any major signing the better  apparently they are bidding for Robinho too.
Another Brazilian that could be moving is Ronaldinho to Chealsea for between $80-100 million, but I personally doubt that'll happen.

whatever, Argentina were NOT impressive at all in their last two games.
Mexico should have taken the game against them, and the team rarely looked very threatening. Aimar's goal was nice though, it was good to see him involved again, unlike riquelme who failed to impress, although he was extremely well covered. figuroa should have buried it.

There is some interest for Luis Figo in Inter Milan, where they are only willing to pay $7 million USD for his services. I guess Figo can't complain...age is already getting to him.
And there is always the whole Robinho-Real Madrid drama.
And anybody watching the Gold Cup? Hah hah, Mexico got punked by Colombia...That last goal came out of NOWHERE, I wasn't even expecting that guy to score with such a lousy kick...then again, so wasn't the goalie, heh heh. Oh well, the table is truly set for the US to win it, I guess.

Chelsea is running away with it. and it doesn't look like their slowing down anytime soon. They finally conceded a goal after like 7 games. But watching their games are like watching your pet rock. It's so boring with their 4-5-1 formation. They'll score one or two goals early on and then defend the rest of the game.
Man U and Arsenal have slumped down quite a bit, as a good a amount of their roster is on injury leave. I'm suprised at West Ham, they're really holding their own having just come in to the Premiership. Newcatle might be up and coming with Michael Owen finally shining as the striker they paid for.
Italian soccer is going on strong as well. I'm really rooting for Inter to take it. With Samuel Adrianno and Martins, they're playing hard. They're due to face Juve soon. They're tearing it up in Champions League, but then again, most of the big teams are as well.

Liverpools vs chelsea match was a sore to see, especially for the bad ref decisions. I know I know, refs make constant stupid mistake, but it doesnt change the fact that two possible penalities could have hindered chelsea's chance of getting through the table if Betis start to gets on fire. Yeah, if you say you like Barcelona and Real Madrid, that's as bad as saying that you like both the Yankees AND the Red Sox. Just no....
 OMG Vieri playing for the eternal rival of his old team, Inter Milan? That will certainly give him HUGE heat when Milan plays against Inter. It's kinda like when Figo went to play for Real Madrid when he was on Barcelona...he got no mercy from the crowd when he played in Barcelona's field.
I also saw the most incredible thing happen in the Mexican league 3 days ago...a team was winning 3-0 in the last minute, and the opposing team gets a penalty kick in their favor. They score, whoopee doo, 3-1, make the score more decent. Winning team kicks off, losing team recovers, gets corner kick, GOAL! 3-2. Winning team kicks off, losing team recovers, drive it to the area, some striker is being overwhelmed by defenders and SOMEHOW tips the ball over the goalkeeper, and scores! 3-3 in about 3 minutes! FUCKIN' CRAZY! :wow:
Oh yeah, more qualified WC teams since last time:
- Brazil
- United States (upon defeating Mexico, LOLCOPTER!11!)
- Mexico

Yeah, seriously, those Mexican kids really played kickass soccer throughout the tournament. It's kinda funny how these kids gave Mexico a satisfaction that the main team could never EVER grant them in a hundred years. These guys SHOULD be the future of the Mexican team...whereas nowadays they have to resort to foreign players who have to convert to Mexican-ism to play for them (i.e. Guillermo Franco).
I mean, look at them. They defeated Brazil 3-0 in the finals. BRAZIL! And in the semifinals, they defeated Netherlands 4-0! I bet you will never see that shit in next year's WC.
Now I'm hearing that teams like Chelsea and Real Madrid have thrown an eye on them...let's hope it comes true, and don't become bench warmers like Jared Borgetti. :bluu:

Barcelona seem to e getting back to their feets. Do people believe that Messi is out-performing Ronladhino? I know he's young and what not, but he certainely seems faster than Ronnie.
Real Madrid are in big trouble if more of their players contiue to have constant injuires left and right. As much as Im a fan of theirs, I do not see them winning La liga. Robinho hasnt done jack shit. I guess the blame could go to Luxembourgo's instance on the team to play a more brazilian style format; Sure, when it works they kick ass, but when it doesnt, they get shutted down so badly and end up looking pathetic.

But if he keeps up with his good form, he might lead his team to a top 5 finish. If the young prospects work with Owen and Shearer I think they easily get into UEFA Cup or maybe even Champions League action for next year.
USA tied Scotland 1-1 in what was a boring uneventful game. USA had most of the possesion but couldn't beat Scotland's defense for what I thought was lack of creativity on the part of the United States.
shame Shearer is retiring this year from football

I believe he was going to retire before last season but put that on hold to try and get into European action? I'm not quite sure why, but you never know, he might stay another season now that Owen is around.

Shearer is retiring this year. The only reason he stayed another year is because he was something like 9 goals away from being Newcastle's alltime top scorer. He has somewhere between 3-5 goals left to beat it.

LA Galaxy won the MLS Cup Final 1-0 in overtime, I wanted the Revolution to win, but they couldn't get it together to score a goal.

Yeah!
3-2 England. great game
I don't understand why none of the big clubs bid for Michael Owen. proven goal scorer on all levels.
not too many clubs are fond of paying twice the money to Madrid when they acquired owen less than a year ago

He went to Real Madrid simply for the hype that they were a supposed better team. He goes there and then Liverpool wins the CL so he wants out.
I wouldn't want him back if I was Liverpool.

Wow, what a shock. Keane gone from Man U. To think he showed up for practice in the morning and then by afternoon he's gone. He will probably be going to Celtic and playing out the rest of his career there.

Man Barcelona vs Real Madrid is a wicked match, Barca are running riot, with Eto, Ronaldiho, Messi and Deco stealing the show.
Barca are winning 1-0 and its only half time and its being played in Real Madrid's backyard

Keane leaving ManU was bound to happen. Relations between him and Ferguson weren't getting any better. :xeye:
As for the World Cup, I believe England and the Netherlands, but England specifically, will go very far in next year's competition as opposed to their previsious performances in the finals.
edit: Damn you Abhi, I would kill to be able to watch that fixture right now. Freaking US sports channels and their college football games 24 fucking 7.
