Program for compressing vid files

If you download GordianKnot (from http://gknot.doom9.org/), it installs NanDub/VirtualDub which I found to be pretty damn good at this kind of thing. It also installs tons of codecs so you can play around with different formats and whatnot.

I second gordian knot, and make sure you install LAME so that you can compress audio to mp3 as well.

Alright, I downloaded virtual dub. Only problem is...I have no idea how to work this thing. Just simply need to compress the files into a smaller format (about no more than 4 or 5 megs a video) so if someone could just list a quick step by step that'd be great.

Also using virtualdub and avisyth, you can correctly fix interlacing problems. As seen on 100fps.com

But for simply compressing the videos, virtual dub works wonders. Open the file in virtualdub (typically mpeg1 or avi), goto video, then compression, select your codec and click on configure and select a lower bitrate than what its currently encoded as. Similarly you can compress the audio by going into audio, full processing mode, then compression and select your audio codec, if its supported you'll see a list of bitrates with the mono/stereo, and frequency table so choose what you want. Keep in mind that most humans can't hear about 22,000 hertz so the 41,000 hertz to 48,000 hertz is essentially a waste of space. If thats not enough you can convert the audio to a lower level. And you can use the filters in virtualdub to resize it to a lower screen size, and even process less frames. So you can turn a 30fps video to 15 fps or even 10.

VirtualDub is basic and amazing usefull program to capture/transform/compress some vid type files and depending on the codec that each user has installed on his computer VirtualDub can compress a lot depending how many bit-rates compressing we input.

If anyone wants to compress into mpeg then Tmpeg is very usefull, by using 1000 bitrates for video compression and 192 or 224 with 44.100 for sound we can get a decent compression with nice quality, there´s always the wmv compression that compress more but it´s not as universal and mpeg-1 extensions.

Until now one of the best compression programs of all time taht I tested is camopus Procoder 2.0 :tup: it´s amazing the compression that this super prgram can make and users have a huge selection of file extensions with amazing deep quality on almost every file type.
So to everyone that doesn´t know CANOPUS PROCODER 2: give a try and see the results (note: use the advance options on the compression part to get a deep status on each compression steep)
