Yeah, after I reformatted I took litestep off (I had some memory leak/virus *my fault* that infected the kernel/shell) so needless to say, litesteps on the machine but not enabled @ this point.

BTW are you still talking about icon set for your current desktop layout (rainlendar) or for something else?

My next one will be on my laptop. I'm going to hack the fuck out of it and make a GOOD all Dark theme.... As of now, black themes have all typically sucked.

It's like Trillian... It's called Miranda... If I hadn't been using Trillian for so long, it has all my custom names / away messages and such, I'd DEFINITELY switch. I'm getting sick of how long it takes Trillian to load up (almost twice as long as Miranda)

depends. I don't use a program. I use MSvisual styles. You need to change a file called uxtheme.dll. google that and figure out how to do it, since i hate writing tutorials. some people use stylexp, others windowblinds by stardock.

There's a lot of ways to customize your XP system. Check this site out..

by the way, here's a little tip for those who have lcd screens. Enable cleartype font edge smoothing in display settings under appearance -> effects. Your desktop fonts will look crisper.

I finally got a half-decent wallpaper. Finding them in 1280 x 1024 has been a huge pain for me. I'm still rocking one of the built-in themes, though. Most of the ones I've looked at downloading just try to emulate OSX and I don't really care for the Dock all that much:

It crashed because you had to much shit on ? :shake: :shake:

it crashed because i ripped apart too much of the insides of windows. it wouldn't even boot up into safe mode. after i reinstalled the OS, i had about 60 or so GB lost due to bad sectors. Mind you, I had an 80GB HDD. The bad sectors came about two days after i started getting blue screens. What happened, was I ripped up system32.dll, attempting to remove windows control at all over any part of the GUI. this crashed my windows, and after system restores, and several other attempts to get my computer back up and running, several formats, several uses of killdisk, and other such programs, it wrecked the drive (THANK YOU MAXTOR!). not to mention, i overheated my processor in the process. I had a socket A... so instead of looking on ebay for a new mobo / processor / hard drive, i just upgraded everything.
i'm just glad that i had an external to keep my backups on, and a laptop to actual do stuff and be productive with.

needless to say, when i customize, i customize everything. haha! yeah resource hacker!

If you take a gander at your original picture, it truely does look like a 22" monitor by comparison to the rest of what's in the picture. Perspective means a lot in a two dimensional item there sir. Not to mention, you never mentioned it being a TV until your second post, therefore I didn't necessarily assume that I was looking at a TV. Monitors aren't frequently that large.

I like the desktop. Obsidian might be coming back to my desktop, but i hate that you have to use resource hacker to change the icons when you have litestep. No manual mods work, you need to actually change all the dll's and whatnot.

o come on, you known it looks like a 19inch monitor :rofl:
But yeah Im using IconTweaker, its a worked like a charm so far im not one for "desktop icons", so I just whore out quicklaunch and that shortcut menu thing in obsidian.

it simply allows you to change any icon on the computer to one of your choice.
So the Litestep/Theme change doesnt affect me. Cause anytime I look at a "my computer" icon, it will look let the one I had icontweaker change mycomputer to. Its badass especially when you have icon packs/sets. Just be like, "my documents" ok, change with "x" icon of my choosing.

Okay, I'll try to list out what I did and what I need help with.

1-For Visual Styles...

A) BIGASS EDIT: I figured it out...I think. I used Style XP (cuz I had nothin' else to do so I succumbed [read below as I questioned about using it]) and just double clicked the 'theme' in the VS folder.

However, I still have questions about...

2-Icons...

A) I went to DeviantArt and downloaded the 'Windows Black' Icon set.

B) I unzipped the file to my desktop.

C) I read some of the comments and they suggested a program called STYLE XP. Rather than waste my time, I figured I'd come here first before 'botching' something up...The only way I could change the icons was to RIGHTCLICK->PROPERTIES->CHANGE ICON on 'most'...uh...icons. I couldn't do it to the recycle bin though because the CHANGE ICON is not an option so I figure there must be some other way...

And...that's pretty much the gist of it. Thank you for your time. (I'll post up my desktop soon)

Im @ work on call right now so I dont have enough time to type out a full description of all the steps but:
For #2C
Control Panel > Display > Desktop Tab > Customize Desktop > Click on Recycle Bin Icon > Click Change Icon and Select Ur Icon From Computer and Click ok.
Also check out IconTweaker (Google it), i personally use this program and it makes using icon sets a breeze.

If no one answers this by the time I go to school tonight, Ill fill in the blanks.

Matrox makes a single card that can display on 3 monitors.
They suck for gaming tho.

What kind of resolution do have on that computer? Or are you running dual display? It seemed seriously stretched out.

Dual monitor.
Xinerama makes Linux see it as one monitor, Giving me an effective resolution of 2560x1024.
But also realize that I resized the picture to be kind to my server & the viewer.
I really don't think people want to wait for that moster of an image to load.
Thinking about adding a third.
