The Google Video web site (http://video.google.com) covers the basics of what this is. It's interesting, but the front-end at least on my machine is seemingly pretty alpha.

Quite interesting matches, but yeah: the sound seems pretty fucked up on my machine too - just bleeps and blops. Is it somebody's techno mix? :wink: Is it possible to download them, or are these just things to watch online? Because I'm afraid to press "STOP" (since that technically in most player terms is "cancel playback, time to zero") in order to pause now that I'm ~30m into the match. And where's the rewind once you see something that makes you go "Ooooooo!"?!? :smile:

Actually, now that I see the encoding parameters above, the errors makes sense - I'm assuming you're using the old pirated version of the WMA2 encoder, which nobody is going to work well with. (I'm assuming 3ivX vid/WMA2 aud in the AVI file format?)

EDITx2: It's just using VLC (VideoLanClient, IIRC), so the source audio problem should be indeed that the video was encoded with the crusty old pirated WMA2 encoder. It'll work on some machines if you have a random WMA2 decoder installed, I'd think, but this should generally fail for most users... ?

EDITx3: I've figured out how to download these videos now... if it *is* encoding via 3ivx, it's encoding to fourCC DIVX anyways, and it's pulling in the FhG codec for the decode, so this may be DIVX/MP3, but there's something wrong with the audio stream. My primary computer is down for the count (hardware problem) for tonight, but I'm still toying around with this to figure out what's going on here.

EDITx4: Can't find riffwalk.exe anywhere, so just pulled up the file in notepad.exe to hand walk the RIFF - it is indeed divx/mp3 (fourCC 'divx', formattag 85). In theory you'd get more mileage with fourCC 'DIVX' (note caps - VFW is case-sensitive) and I'm not sure what the hell is blowing up the FhG decoder here, but I'm pretty damned curious at this point to know what encoding tool made the video. Anybody? It looks FFmpeg0.4.9-pre1b4752 with LAME 3.96.1?? I'd lightly suggest a reencode - pretty much any of the 8 vids blow up the FhG decoder (in ACM apps - I haven't gotten the content to work in DShow apps yet), suggesting that either LAME or FFmpeg is doing something unusual to the audio stream(?).

I'll make a new post on this one aspect:
To download the vids:
right-click, view source, look for string switchvideo_ax in the file, walk forward to 'http...' and copy that big long string into your favorite text editor. Then do search and replace as follows:

%3a ==> :
%2f ==> /
%3f ==> ?
%3d ==> =
&26 ==> &

So http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideoplayback%3 Fid%3Dd63fb2d6c9086971%26begin%3D0%26len%3D3618432 %26itag%3Dw320%26docid%3D3674588566536033317%26url created%3D1119940369%26sigh%3DqOGsPnarS06QpYESGNt3 7ukKBjM becomes http://vp.video.google.com/videoplayback?id=d63fb2d6c9086971&begin=0&len=3618432&itag=w320&docid=3674588566536033317&urlcreated=1119940369&sigh=qOGsPnarS06QpYESGNt37ukKBjM

Yeah - the higher qual vids use standard fourCC 'DIVX' (this is as opposed to 'DivX Corporation' - big big difference) video in conjunction with flat PCM audio, so there's no crazy audio here. Seems to work great on my machine. :tup:

So is there a way to save these vids to my hard drive or do I have to watch'em off the site?This post (http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2464444&postcount=11) has links to them all that you can right-click Save Target As with to get the seven match AVIs that are up. I'll probably reencode the source (I'm getting it from Blue_J now) and have them up with "fixed" audio after the ECCX footage is shared on my site.

How big are these files?The ones up on google.com are anywhere between ~70MB to about ~250MB for the biggest file:
* 148,151,488 videoplayback.avi
* 153,544,262 videoplayback.avi
* 173,548,714 videoplayback.avi
* 223,711,198 videoplayback.avi
* 155,660,368 videoplayback.avi
* 175,154,632 videoplayback.avi
* 23,048,574 videoplayback.avi
* 223,711,198 videoplayback.avi
The source files are 1GB apiece (uncompressed audio...), so it'll take a bit before I can snarf those down from blue_j. :smile:

Re: av. Thanks. :smile:

JohnnyEight re: playback: It's just standard RIFF AVI so should work in any player provided you have the LAME MP3 audio decoder for your player (any non-LAME codec will probably puke all over the audio) and the 3ivx or Divx 'divx' video decoder. If RealPlayer is unhappy, try a different player. But the current files are a little buggy (mostly due to audio), so I believe the current plan is that I'll reencode 'em and post them up on my site in reencoded form sometime after the ECCX vids come out. :smile:

doyerbest, the first one has 141 (or is it 151) mbs.

Oops, I missed your last post Preppy. Thanks for the info. I got a random codec and it worked :)

Anyway, if anyone cares, the video Preppy posted first (141 mbs, 59:03) is one where I am pretty sure Justin Wong is player 2 (if not, its someone really really good). The first 45 minutes you have Justin playing Cable/Sentinel/IronMan vs mostly MSPs, Storm/Sent/AAA, MSPs and Strider/Cable or Sent/Doom. He finally loses to the last team (Eddie Lee) and changes for Storm/Cable/Cammy till the end.

I'll watch the others and post info like that if somebody cares for it.

May I say that its hard to believe that Justin barely plays MvC2 anymore. His game seems much better than 6 months ago. Maybe that's just an impression though. Hard to judge from videos.

And also, thanks BlueJ, best videos in a long while (will be even better when Preppy labels them on the website, which he always does). I really don't care for fancy editing stuff, but high level gameplay is the best.

Edit: Link seems broke now,as pointed by the post above mine. If anybody wants to upload that last one (by Preppy's list of links) I'll really appreciate it. Thanks a bunch !

Edit 2: Hey, BlueJ, were you guys playing on pads? I am asking because I watched like an hour and a half of footage and nobody escpaed from tempests yet, and it also seems that mag players are using it a little more than usual (not many 5 fierces, for instance).
Anyway, the first half hour of video 2 is great for strider/doom players. Some guy did good with Strider/Sent/Doom and other took him out and is beasting on everybody so far with Strider/Cable/Doom...

edit 3: Finished watching video 2. Believe it or not, cable rules in both videos so far. I'd like to know who's playing Cable/Sent/Capcom and afterwards Mag/Cable/Doom in the vid. Nice games.

stider doom players are either the law or eddie lee eddie dont use sent like that very rarely and plays alot better trap game. the msp are yipes or josh wigfall u can tell the diffence that yipes does a diffren reset every chance he gets the storm sent cyc are all the matrix. all the santhax matches were by me and all those weird teams with long streaks r jsutin like iron guy cable sent storm cable cammyy etc

btw justin`s hyper grabs are like harder to mash out than anybody`s else for some reason he says he vairs the time or some bs what ever.

What about Justin? I thought he improved even more lately. Does he still plays often or it was just a good day?

I will post the remaining matches when I watch them. Thank you so much and good job. Your santhrax is really good :)

I got the high quality ones from blue_j, huge props to him for sending them. Also, they had fucked up audio, so i re-encoded them to XviD/mp3 format. It was quite a challenge to find a proper decompressor for the audio, nontheless it was possible. I'll be handling the fixed versions to Preppy so he can do whatever with them. Perhaps put them up as hub-only matches so people will join gfb hub? :D

^-- AngelPotion is the worst hack codec ever made, actually. It's a pirated version of the MS codec hacked to accept any fourCC, which is so fucking brain-dead it's amazing. NO ONE should be using AngelPotion anymore - I had thought that this codec died out years ago. Seriously - if you absolutely have to pirate stuff I worked on, use the Greenhall "DivX 3.x" hack, since that at least just changes the fourCC, which is only MOSTLY brain-dead. Destroy AngelPotion with prejudice. This is not bias - the only other codec that comes close to having as having as many problems as AngelPotion is a Netscape Corporation codec that "Microsoft" refused to get any further updates to because each release contained some *different* bad bug. NEVER USE ANGELPOTION. THIS IS NOT ARGUABLE. AngelPotion at best is a horrible version of the DivX 3.x hack.

Likewise with the "WMA2" hack - you're again pirating stuff I worked on, and those hacks were so fucking stupid it was amazing at the time (3 years ago) but everybody moved on. You should move on too. Don't use the obsolete pirate hack WMA2/AVI. If you're encoding to AVI, either use FHG-MP3/AVI or use LAME-MP3/AVI. If you've got WMP10 on your system, you've got a semi-hidden FHG-MP3 Professional encoder on your system that you can temporarily activate if you want to avoid using LAME-MP3.

But never ever ever use AngelPotion. You can't understand how stunned I am that this codec has resurfaced in any fashion. Even the warez community gave up on that piece of shit years ago. *wanders off to the VirtualDub site to find the reference on how fucked up AngelPotion is...*

I respect that encoding videos can be difficult and confusing, but you need not to install warez codec packages. Those don't do anything good for you. If you really feel the need to pirate codecs, you have to pirate them one by one - any package containing multiple codecs from multiple vendors invariably fucks something up. (And yes, I think people pirating stuff, especially stuff I worked on, is pretty goddamn lame, but at the same time I don't want friends shooting themselves in the foot because they don't understand the software they're using. =P )

EDIT: Official VirtualDub write-up on AngelPotion is here (http://www.virtualdub.org/docs_codecs), the original write-up he gave it is mirrored here (http://forums.divx.com/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/201101651/m/463102651).

EDITx2: Just to be clear, we're still good - I'm not pissed at you at all. But I am absolutely stunned that this horrible codec still exists, and hopefully understandably have to take a vehement stand towards crappy software. You'll see this "run the hell away" opinion mirrored at google.com if you do a search for AngelPotion there. =\
