Yep, you gotta love Capcom's choices from the Marvel roster besides the obvious ones (Cap, Spidey, X-Men, etc.).
- Squid
- Demon thingy
- Robot (because the Japanese love robots, btw Sentinel in the Capcom games was a special Capcom design of Sentinel)
- Six-armed chick
- Samurai warlord
- chick with bones
It should also be noted that in sprite form Acolytes, Jean Grey, and Professor X are in the Marvel games too, but only in endings. And Prof X was also a part of Onslaught. And Mephisto (not palette swap Blackheart lol), Scarlet Witch, She-Hulk, Beast and many others are in backgrounds. And Adam Warlock appears in Juggs' MSH ending.

Yeah, Capcom was really BAD at picking characters for their Marvel games. Marrow? Wtf? I'd have been much happier with Deadpool or something. He'd make some interesting taunts.

I've always thought Shuma should be at least Sentinal's size in the game, and have super armor because of the armor in the comic. Oh well

The fact that he wasn't playable in the game was some boshit.

So what if they picked some obscure characters?
They also got some obscure characters on Capcom's side as well, like Jin and Son Son... (to western audiences, at least)

Nononono, Shuma, BH and the others are cool, there's nothing wrong with them. What was lame was that crappy Morlock Marrow. That could've been Bishop, Deadpool, Taskmaster, playable Thor, Mr. Sinister, really anyone. Hell Dr. Strange would've been more fun than Marrow. :xeye:

If you ask me these aren't the choices you should critisize.
The choices to critisize are: Amingo, Son Son, Ruby Heart, 2(!) wolverines, 2(!) ironmans. Also the joke characters: dan, servbot and roll. If you are not even going to bother to make them useable why even put them in the game?
That's 8 character slots that could've gone to some other characters like AHEM* nightcrawler, demitri, sagat, cody, blanka, beast, rose/guy, daredevil/zero/carnage/shocker/anyone.
I like son son, ruby heart and amingo enough but really alot of those character spots could've been used alot better. But heck they made up a character before putting in nightcrawler or sagat?

You gotta wonder. Even if you don't agree with my choices you gotta think there would be alot or at least a few people who would be wanting to have those characters in the game. You can't say there was even more than 1 or 2 guys hoping for the off chance amingo would make the cut.
I'm sure no one was like "man sagat and beast would be awesome but it just wouldn't be a fighting game without son son"
My pick for a unexpected pic?: Luke Cage

Haha Juggernaut totally got the shaft in his ending and Thanos' ending seems to be incorrect [the text boxes aren't right].

Amingo was in a music game of some kind, son son was in a puzzle game iirc.
Ruby Heart was made specifically for the game.

im thinking capcom was just to lazy to do the sprites of characters like thor, beast, sagat, jubilee,so on,
they could of did it,if they had the dedicated talented creators at that time creating marvel, then yes they would of not wasnt there time doin dan, roll, amingo, and servbot,i blame there creators of those characters

I love this quote from the second page:
Shuma-Gorath: Video Game Star
Most people know of Shuma-Gorath from his appearance in the Capcom Marvel Super Heroes fighting game. This side-view fighting game featured characters such as Spider- Man, Wolverine, Juggernaut, Iron Man, Blackheart, and others competing for the Infinity Gems, in a very loose adaptation of the Inifinity Gauntlet story line. Shuma-Gorath proved popular enough to appear in the Marvel vs. Capcom fighting game sequel.
This is probably one of the most high profile appearances of such an obscure character in Marvel's history. A character with less than a half-dozen physical appearances in almost 3 decades was chosen to be in an arcade game!! Most people have no idea who Shuma-Gorath is, leading to a number of web sites (mostly from video game fans) that describe him erroneously, ranging from his being an evil version of the Ancient One, to another dimension's sorcerer supreme, who consumed his reality and hungers for ours!!! Hopefully this profile will enable fans to learn the truth!!
Frank Perry provided the voice for Shuma-Gorath in the game.
 at that.
The fact that (Adam Warlock) wasn't playable in the game was some boshit.

Amingo was in a music game of some kind, son son was in a puzzle game iirc.
Ruby Heart was made specifically for the game.
Son Son was actually the main character from one of Capcom's oldest arcade games, Son Son.
Amingo was new.
As for Marrow... The Marvel side lacked girls. What can I say.
Adam Warlock

Technically she wasn't. They're two different characters.
Capcom was more or less going with 'current' versions of the characters. During the run of their games, Nightcrawler was a member of Excalibur. NO ONE except sano was buying Excalibur. Nightcrawler didn't rejoin X-Men until way after MVC2. There just wasn't going to be any Excalibur characters anywhere in this game, it was a really unpopular series. Even whey they tried to change Excalibur to be just like the X-Men books, it didn't wind up saving it, so soon enough Nightcrawler, Kitty Pride, Colossus and Phoenix (all though at different time periods for each) went back to being X-Men.
I think it's cool they picked Shuma Gorath out of nowhere, that's really funny. I'd love to find out how they even knew about him, maybe someone over at Capcom really the liked Conan the Barbarian books or something? Or since comics come out much later in Japan, maybe they were reading a story with him over there at the time in a GN? Hmmm. In the Marvel Encyclopedias they have a bio and power rating for every single character in MVC2 except for Shuma Gorath who only gets mentioned in the Marvel Encyclopedia's Book of the Dead for killing the Ancient One.
Their rosters for their games were fine to me, a bit overkill on the X-Men though.
And Blackheart's gonna get some bigtime exposure as the main villain in the new Ghost Rider Movie.
On the flipside I'd love it if an obscure Marvel character made it into EA's Marvel Nemesis. Come on Sienna Blaze....
Here's a drawing taken from a Japanese X-Men vs. SF doujin. And the real reason Capcom used Shuma Gorath in the Marvel games? So Japanese could elude too... TENTACLE SEX!

Well, it's normal, wince the MVC2 roster is just a mishmash of EVERY character that appeared in the Marvel series.
-X-Men : Children of the Atom
-Marvel Super Heroes
-X-Men VS Street Fighter
-Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter Marvel VS Capcom
So since one of these games was entirely dedicated to the X-Men, it's not hard to understand why there are so many X-Men in MVC2! ^_^;
This isn't fighting game related, but...
How come Psylocke and Gambit haven't been seen in the movies yet? I don't know much about the X-Men, but I thought those two were quite important in the comic... When I worked in a comic book store (between 1994-1996), those two were all over the place.

Son Son was actually the main character from one of Capcom's oldest arcade games, Son Son.
Random is right, the Son Son in MvC2 is the grand daughter of the original Son Son.
Daredevil would have been a cool character to add
Speaking of Blackheart...... he is being featured as one of the villans in the upcoming Ghostrider movie staring Nicholas Cage.
No joke.

Gambit was supposed to be in the second movie but that didn't work out (his name Remy Lebaeu does show up on a list of Mutant names in the flick) As for Psylocke, um, to get her up to being 'Ninja Slut' Psylocke in the Movie is pretty tricky, unless they skip over her origin and just have her show up like they did in the American 90s cartoon, sadly in the cartoon she had an American accent as opposed to a British one... who knows maybe she'll show up in a movie some day. Gambit's prolly gonna be in part 3....

Gambit really isnt too important, unless you talk about the murdering Morlocks thing, with Mr. Sinister. Other than that, Gambit is just a crowd pleaser. he would make alot of money for the X-movies though. I'm sure he'll be in.
I hear that Beast and Angel will be in X3, that way, the original 5 will have been introduced.

Gambit's prolly gonna be in part 3....To be more clear, she's a resurrected ninja slut (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psylocke), and that's the simple version of her. They kind of tried to do a hell of a lot with both Psylocke and Gambit. Interesting characters, but hard to pluck their core essence out of the muckiness of their plotting. Should be a lot easier with Gambit, really. Psylocke... I'd give up on that. She's been Captain Britain, raped & blinded, Mojo-ized, in somebody else's body (part of the ninjaification), possessed, not possessed, possessed, not possessed, dead, resurrected. Fun but crazy.
(The wikipedia.org entries for characters should generally show you how easy they might be to include. Keep in mind you have to have a core character essence to be able to get across to the audience... Gambit has one ('Charming Rogue'), Psylocke doesn't seem to.)

Yes she does.
BOOBS.
Yeah, Frasier's gonna play Beast in part three. PERFECT! Too bad a different actor played Beast in part 2, and yet a third actress is gonna play Kitty Pride and as you know they've already had two actors play Pyro... they sure didn't plan any of these X Movies in advance when they were casting people.

HOLD UP! Choosing Marrow for the roster wasn't a bad idea. The way she was kicking ass in the Marvel comics at the time the game was announced in japan, especially in the Spiderman issue where she broke INTO a jail, she was a bad-ass. Capcom gave her lame moves, and generally fucked her up.

Nope. Original XMEN are
Beast
Cyclops
Angel
Marvel Girl (Pheonix)
Iceman (the best!)
Kitty Pride was a main X-girl after the GiantSize XMen, where Colossus,Storm, and Wolverine, to name a few were introduced. This happened many years before I was born.....wish I had that comic book. ^_^ sigh.

Five years after to be precise. Giant-Size X-Men came out in 1975. Kitty Pride first appeared in X-Men #129 in 1980.
And if you think Shuma Gorath and Blackheart are odd choices, Sabretooth's helper Birdy who he calls over to shoot at people in X-Men vs. SF and MVC2 only appeared in Sabretooth's first limited series and she died in the same series, only 4 issues of existence.
