No, you don't. The KH:CoM storyline was written after the KH2 storyline, but it does bridge the gap between KH and KH2.

You really don't have to play anything; the characters from other Final Fantasy games have different backstories in KH (and in some cases are 10x better/cooler/more badass, like Squall), so knowing them in their original state isn't too necessary.

But if you still wanna, then, ya, like Lantis said, 7, 8, and 10.

Along with an army of KH fans, I convinced them to make the long black raincoats that can be see in CoM, KH2, and the special endings to KH. They spawned a hoodie styled off of that coat as well. Very pricey, but damn cool. I'll get one as soon as I have any spare money that isn't going towards bills/Street Fighter action figures.

Im so pumped for KH2. The first one blew me away, such a masterpiece in every way possible, and Ive played MANY rpg's. Anyone that hasnt played this, all I can say to you is get it now. Im glad this is gonna be one of Square-Enix's three main series to be focused on. (With Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest as the other two.)

Re: CoM - I hated the gameplay. I found nothing really fun about it; mash heartless to death, mash bosses to death until they start getting tough (somewhere around Darkside), take down the real tough bosses with zeroes until they have no cards to defend themselves with, then mash. Riku's story, while more entertaining, wasn't much different. That's my reason for disliking it, despite the intriguing story and my love for all things Kingdom Hearts.

Re: KH2 - I'm psyched; it's easily the one game above all others I've waiting for this year. Yeah, I know the deal with her and Kairi. But she just has more personality to me, not that whole "childhood friend" angle they pulled with K. She's got this calm sort of persona in any frickin' situation, kinda like Lacus of Gundam SEED. In short, she's a pretty chill babe. And that's why I like her a lot better, at least at the moment.

I have to agree with you there about the need for a stronger influence from the Squaresoft side. Hopefully Auron will be a playable character this time around.

Lance Bass's voice acting was perfect, actually, which surprised me. He managed to sound cocky, evil, and badass all at the same time.

Not fond of his music, but if he plays Sephiroth in an FF7 remake, I won't complain.

I played Kingdom Hearts 2 at E3 and I saw that awesome Mickey black hooded statue :clap:
I played the Mulan level with Mulan on my side
and the Hades level with Auron as a partner.

The game is still great, and the best part is you can control the camera and the camera zoom with the right analog stick:bgrin:

No more annoying close up fights :tup:

Sora also has a special attack were he can cancel one of his helpers to fight with two keyblades.

There wasn't a block button though, but I guess they will add that later.

Until Goofy got MP Gift, then I just never deviated from the main party.

Keeping the seiyuus the same for KH2 would only be smart. Haley Joan Osment was a perfect Sora IMO, in addition to all of the voices. Although, I'm not sure how Sora is going to sound now, seeing as Haley's 17 years old. But I guess we'll see. I can't wait to see the other "Fusions" with the characters. Auron's, Mulan's, and Captain Jack Sparrow's are going to be interesting.

Agreed; a Chrono Trigger-themed world (complete with "silent" Crono as a party member) would kick all levels of ass.

Supposedly, the storyline of each world in KH2 is more meant to further Sora's story, as opposed to being a sorta re-telling of the movie's story with Sora just "happening by."

This happened a couple of times in KH1:

One example of this is Atlantica in the first game; they didn't really follow the plot in The Little Mermaid (hell, Ariel was a PARTY MEMBER who wasn't half-bad). The storyline in that world had a segment between Sora and King Triton where Triton knew that Sora was the keyblade master and from another world to boot, and I think there were a couple of other segments that were more about Sora's quest in general than the happenings in Atlantica.

Another obvious example is, of course, Hollow Bastion.

While on that topic, what worlds have been seen in preview vids or otherwise confirmed? I know of:

- Twilight Town (where the other playable keyblade master is from)
- Christmas Town (the opposite of Holloween Town)
- Mulan's World
- Hercules's World (including the "main" world and the Underworld)
- Enchanted Countryside (Beast's world; wonder if he'll remember Sora from Hollow Bastion...?)
- Disney Castle
- Agrabah (again; no real change, seemingly, except for a new scene in some ruins with some funky statues, plus Jafar's lamp that Big Bad Pete got a hold of)
- Castle Oblivion (from CoM; Namine and the new kid talk there)
- Hollow Bastion (where the big "army of Heartless" scene seems to be happening)
- Destiny Islands (shows Kairi and Selphie there)

Am I missing any?

One thing I'm hearing that I DON'T like is supposedly introducing a ranking system to each world; apparently, finishing each world with high kills and a quick time will earn you better rewards.

I'm hoping this is either not what I'm thinking it is (a Megaman Zero-type reward system, which is fine for Megaman Zero but not, IMO, something like KH) and/or it doesn't impact exploration.

Word, Amano was on crack when he made Terra blonde. Hell, he makes half his incarnations of FF characters blonde, with the noted exception of FFX illustrations of Yuna.

But yeah, they should put in Terra. And cross her character like they did with Cloud with someone frickin' insane, like I don't know...Gilgamesh. Red would still remain her dominant color that way, but with a bigass scarf over the bodysuit and like, 6 concealed swords. :clap: Now that would rock.

New: It's from Beauty and the Beast apparently, but it just means that it isn't restricted to just the castle for that world.
Chain of Memories: I haven't played that game, but I know that it's some castle where the deeper you go, the more of your memories you lose.
KH1: This also has to do with Beauty and the Beast. It's the place where you find Beast, fight Riku twice, and fight Maleficent before finding the Seven Princesses of Heart.
KH1: Riku, Sora, and Kairi's home world.
KH1: Sort of, in that it was featured in the secret preview ending of that game.

I'm just playing KH1 now and I'm up to the tall boss on the Queen of Hearts stage and I'm wondering, whats so good about this game? Sure its one of the best looking games I've played, everything looks great but the gameplay and level design feel like shit. Am I missing something? Does it get better or any different?

It's just extremely annoying when my two partners are morons the camera is stuck or too slow and the enemies are teleporting all over the place. Secret of Mana and Legend of Mana just blow this game outta the water when it comes to action combat. At least you could see what was going on in that, at least you felt like you had better control over your character.

And don't get me started on the Gummi Ship stage, what is that supposed to be Lego Space invaders?

Muskau, I guess it all comes down to a matter of opinion. Much like how you have your FF7 nuts, there are always gonna be people (like me) who just never got into it. I can't stand turn based games. And if gameplay sucks but has a good storyline, I'd rather read a book.

Kingdom Hearts starts out kinda slow, both storywise and even gameplay wise. As you progress, obviously you and your partners will level up and gain new abilities that will make the game more enjoyable (how many of us would have killed to have Flight during that stupid hippo part in the jungle?) and you'll get deeper into the story, as opposed to just visiting random Disney worlds over and over.
Donald and Goofy, for the most part, are pretty useless. You can customize them to do certain things more or less often, and you can even command them to target enemies. They are mostly just there for the story I'm guessing, since you should be able to take care of the enemies on your own. I won't lie though, I loved them by the end of the game after they had saved my ass with Cure many a times.
I never had too many problems with the camera. You just have to get a hang of twirling it around with the R and L buttons while you're running/fighting.
And um...forget the Gummi Ship. There really isn't much of an excuse for that one.

I'm biased since I love the game, but I'd recommend sticking with it and seeing if you like it. Tweak around with the controls and you might find you'll have an easier time. The quick-fire buttons for the magic are a life saver that I didn't find out about til later in the game!

The right AI settings make Donald/Goofy feasible, the camera isn't the best but it isn't nearly as bad as, say, Samurai Warrior Musashi's (*shudder*), and the best parts of both the story and the action start coming up mid-game. It helps to play on the hardest difficulty; KH is fairly tough on Normal but on Hard things get insane, which is fun IMO.

HOWEVER, I think it's just not everyone's cup of tea. Don't play through the whole game if you aren't having fun with it. If you stick with it, enjoy! If not, no worries.

It's gonna be REAL hard not to read a spoiler for this when the importers put their FAQs up. I won't do it though; I won't read an ounce of story until I finish the game.

At the moment though, these are specs's official storyline predictions (tm):

Here goes:

In CoM, Mickey said to Riku that at first, he (Mickey) thought the Light was good and the Darkness was bad, but after seeing what Riku can do, Mickey isn't so sure anymore.

The Nobodies in KH2 resemble the Heartless in more ways than one, but are definitely different. What if the Light is not only NOT the magnanimous entity everyone makes it out to be, but is really the cause of the worlds seperating (as mentioned in KH1)?

I think the Nobodies will be revealed to be tools of the Light, just as Heartless (which Ansem did *not* create, IMO, despite what he may believe) are minions of Darkness. Or maybe Ansem foresaw the Light growing too strong, tipping the "balance," and DID create the Heartless (which I still doubt) to combat this threat, and maybe got lost along the way and went all apeshit crazy.

The Light being the true evil isn't so farfetched. If Darkness is representative of the nothingness from which all life begins and ends, Light may be the being that, though born of Darkness, believes itself superior and, in its arrogance, threatens to undo life simply by refusing to acknowledge the balance it MUST share with Darkness.

In CoM, Riku was threatened by an overwhelming Light from an imposter Sora. Riku summoned a mighty darkness to cut through it, saving himself and revealing the fake as one of the Nobodies. This again supports that Nobodies are the minions of Light, and on the same level of "elemental malevolance" as the Heartless.

So I predict that, as KH2 progresses, the Nobodies seek Kingdom Hearts to either undo existence or turn life into something less than ideal. I predict that Axl will be one of the final villains, but not the final boss. Someone NEW will appear for that role, some great emissary of the Light that Sora must defeat. Ultimately, restoring the balance between Light and Dark will not be enough, and to set the course of things straight, Sora will somehow undo the need for this balance, possibly sacrificing his own life.

Twilight Town is a town of neutrality, a town of balance. The new kid's unrest is related to his having to fight the Nobodies, minons of the Light. The new kid will use powers of Darkness, or powers combining Light and Dark, like Riku. He'll meet Riku at some point. He is, IMO, the "other" hooded figure (the one NOT wearing a blindfold) in the Deep Dive ending in KH1.

Sora, though not the true Keyblade Master (source: KH1), will need to master both Light and Dark as well. This won't be too tough for him since he's been a Heartless once and conquered it. Those who have turned away from being either mindless Heartless or mindless Nobodies possess some will to defy the great Darkness/great Light, seeking to restore balance, or perhaps, again, elminate the need for that balance.

It's a Japanese game and it's a theme that Square's explored before (Final Fantasy III, in which the Light Warriors meet the Dark Warriors, who in an ancient era saved the world from a deluge of light). Eastern philosophy constantly has that interplay between opposing forces and harmony between the two is always seen as the best possible scenario, rather than light winning over dark like we think of in the west.

IIRC, the first notion of light and dark used as spiritual metaphors was by the Neoplatonist Plotinus, who took Plato's cave metaphor and explained darkness as the absense of light. Light and dark are seen as literally linear in this example.

I'll be interested in this only if they let you skip the cutscenes. There was that one fight in the first one against Riku that had a ridiculous 5-minute long unskippable cutscene that you had to watch each time you died. Plus, the replay value won't suck if you can skip them the second time around, making the game more of a purchase rather than a rental.

Well, seeing as the floodgates have just been opened, I feel inclined to bring the latest info to those who don't know it yet. The following stuff has BIG ASS spoilers, so it'll be in navy blue.




- BHK's name is Roxas. Makes sense, seeing as it's also confirmed that he's the 13th member of the Organization. Also, he's the Nobody (Non-Existant One) of Sora. Big surprise there.

- Axel bites it near the end, courtesy of the final boss (nobody's saying who it is, though).

- There are 3 Keyblades: One of the Light (Sora's), one of the Darkness (Mickey's) and a third one that was created by the two (Riku's). They also have wills of their own apparently, which is why the Light Keyblade told Riku to fuck off, even though he was supposed to be its actual owner.

- There are 5 five Drive forms apparently. Valor Form (combined w/Goofy), Wisdom Form (combined w/Donald), Master Form (Goofy and Donald), and two others, one of which is being called Final Form as we don't know the actual name yet (combined with Roxas, most think) Which if that were true, also means you can get Roxas in your team in some way. Fucking awesome.

- Dunno if you guys know about the Cloud thing, but he's gonna have a whole side-story within the game involving himself, Aerith, Seph and Leon. I would get the import RIGHT NOW if Cloud and Squall kick Sephiroth's ass in a 2-way. RIGHT NOW.

- Looks like Tifa might've made it in after all, but she doesn't look to interact with the other FF7 crew (because if it's true, then she lives in Twilight Town judging from the screenshot, which is broken off from the other worlds).

I dunno. Rogue Galaxy came at a very bad time, at least for me. The game got REAL lucky that it got released ahead of Kingdom Hearts 2 and Tales of the Abyss, 2 of Japans top releases for this month and the game is so short, that you can beat it in less than a week before they had come out. Problem is, I slacked so much in that game that I now have Tales of the Abyss and KH2, and those games are a lot better than RG is, so RG just took a backseat. The gameplay is not nearly as good as either of these games.

Well, I don't know about everybody else but I won't spoil anything. I will say a few things about the game tho

1. the camera system is A LOT better. The view is zoomed out, so you can see a good distance behind you and in front of you. When you turn up-left and up-right (7,9) the camera acts as an "auto-turn" equivalent to L1 or R1 from the previous KH. This time, you can't control the camera w/ L1 or R1, the analog stick only.

2. the prolouge is very long :(

3. during the cutscenes (ingame) the graphics are very nice, and a step up from KH1. The rest of the cutscenes (movie) are downsampled and you can clearly see blocks which indicate its an FMV.

4. the music.....oh my god. Twilight Town FTW

I just bought this game and the hardcore strategy guide. The EB manager looked at my list of pre-orders and asked why I have two copies of FF:AC pre-ordered. I told her that I wanted to watch one and keep one in mint condition forever. She also noticed that I already had Dirge of Cerberus pre-ordered as well, so after she made fun of me, she tried to get me to pre-order a bunch of other games. So after that, I pulled out my wallet and keys and she made fun of me some more when she noticed that I have a FF7 wallet and a Tifa keychain. She asked if my room was some kind of shrine to the game or something and I said "Yeah...I'm a huge loser now gimme my game so I can go have sex with the disk." Even the losers who lurk around EB started making fun of me.

I just thought I'd share my KH2 purchasing experience with you guys since it's pretty funny in a pathetic sort of way.

it only gets better trust me. wait till you fight the 3 bosses before the last guy you'll trip out like crazy. They're extremely hard. The stage i hate the most is the pirates stage. You'll know what I mean with the coins. If you get the chance to fight sephorith in hallow bal, don't he's too hard. You have to be on level 90+ have the ability to fly and double jump. You also need second chance, like the first KH. Enjoy the game.

If you want the secret ending, defeat the game on proud mode. The hardest mode. And you'll get the secret ending.

Well, I've plugged in about 9 1/2 hours into the game; so far, I'm really enjoying it. Infact, I was on the edge of my seat due to the fact that I have waited four long years with only the original game and "Deep Dive" to tide my hunger over.
However, I would have to say that at this point, the first game is taking spot as number one game in comparison to KH2.
I understand how the special technqiues, as they were in KH1, are incorporated into your normal attacks, but I miss using them in battle.
In my opinion, the 'Drive' system is a very clever idea, but it has its flaws. When I first disengaged it, I was expecting my stock to remain what it was from where I had stopped, but for some strange reason, all of it is used once you quit using it. This wouldn't bother my so much if it didn't take so much time to create stock; otherwise, if you don't disengage it, you just walk around completely wasting it.
Oh well, otherwise, I really love this game.

After about 8 retrys agaisn't Demyx, i'm convinced that he is by far the most annoying boss i've fought in quite some time. I eventually beat him, but i won't forget him.
