well the Rhino hunting is going well so far. I've found:
GI Joe season 1 part 1 (the holy grail)
GI Joe season 2 part 1 - two copies
GI Joes Real American Hero + other Mini-Series - the edition w/ the Snakeyes action figure
Transformers Armada season 1 part 1
...hmm, although it looks like Armada isnt out of print, so maybe i will return it
GODDAMMIT!
I couldn't find that shit when it was NEW.....and here you are, tracking down some of the rarest, most coveted cartoons in HISTORY!

I havent decided whether i am going to keep one set of the gi joe dvds though. I was never as big into Joe as I was transformers or other 80s cartoons. Does anyone here own the dvds or have watched the eps recently and can tell me if they hold up or not? Like, better than the first season of tf? (which was not that good).
Im also still undecided on whether I want to get Gargoyles or not. Never watched the show but it seems to have a big cult following.

Hey anybody know if the Phantasm - The Quadrilogy Box Set is region 2 only?
Cuz I was looking on EBAY and found this (http://cgi.ebay.com/PHANTASM-QUADRILOGY-6-DVD-SET-W-2-UNCUT-WORK-PRINTS_W0QQitemZ6465447155QQcategoryZ617QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem)
Looked a little further and found this (http://www.anchorbay.co.uk/perl/search.pl?CO=ABD4430) on the Phantasm website
Should I just wait til some information comes about for a US set?

Well the short answer to your question is yes, the phantasm dvds (either of those sets) are both region 2 and PAL. You can wait for a US set but those sets have been out for a while and no US release in sight, because different studios own the different films. Much like how anchor bay could never release the Lament Configuration Hellraiser set in the U.S. (and how we still dont have a dvd of hellraiser 3)

HA if this counts, I had bought a "Hajji" copy of The Man With the Screaming Brain.
You know, that Bruce Campbell directed movie.
I found it to be funny as hell. The quality was actually pretty decent. When i get back to the states i might go ahead and get the real dvd if it's actually around.
EDIT: I UPDATED the first post this time around. Found out I can't use ctrl shortcuts on the net cafe computer but the right click mouse style works. Dumb.

started watching GI Joe last night. Most of the series is just a vague memory for me (unlike transformers) so i found the first episode very refreshing. the cast is so huge it never really gets boring. speaking of which, the first episode (not the mini-series) is basically balls-out action from start to finish. shit is violent!
not quite halfway through season 1 of The Wire. what a great show. HBO is a real bitch for dvds though. shit is spread out so thin that disc 2 only has 2 episodes on it.

as glad as I am that I won't have to wait until the end of the year for this.......what the hell?, it came out in November, and is STILL in some theaters.....
which means, it'll be out 2 months after it was in theaters.....granted, this is the year when a movie is supposed to be on DVD at the same time it's in theaters (Still scratching my head on how THAT's gonna work out), but still......
I remember waiting my ass off for Batman on VHS, because my folks wouldn't let me see it with friends (I was 9, so it's not that hard to figure out WHY), and when it DID come out, they wouldn't buy it for me, until I threw a fucking fit......

Geese Pants, the first post is updated.
The last DVD set I bought was Dark Angel season 1. Got it here at the PX across the way over here in Habbiniyah. My teamate had picked up season 2. I gotta say though that Dark Angel is a surprisingly decent show, but it doesn't really pick up and become tight until near the end of season 1 and then all of season 2. It's a shame that the series ended on season 2 because there were alot of loose ends. The show got, got.
I can't wait till when House season 2 comes out on DVD. Since i'm here in the sandbox and can't watch any new episodes, i haven't seen any of season 2. But the season 1 box set got mad play. I think by the time I get back to the states season 2 will be out and i'll cop that.

Best believe I will have the whole Arrested Development series.
That show is laugh out fucking loud funny.
Season 3 will be brand new to me when I get the DVD set for it later.
Good Lord...
"Tae Guk Gi" is the most violent movie I've seen in my entire life.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d162/kcxj2/tgg.jpg
Think "Private Ryan" only it's in Korean and about the Korean War instead. Just like Ryan, it shows the war veteran as an old man and then he goes into his war flashback.
(I don't like Korean girls usually, but I got a boner looking at the granddaughter who looks about 17 btw...)
It starts off real cheesy and homosexual, but then all hell breaks loose obviously when the frontline sequences start.
I've never seen so many people get killed in a movie before. A ridiculous number of headshots, dismemberments, charred corpses, bludeonings, stabbings, EXPLODING people, you name it. It's all here and shot in extremely gory, high budget fashion.
I'm a video game nerd and noticed the South Korean soldiers all carried the American WWII weapons which I thought was pretty cool. The Garand rifle, M3 submachine gun, and the BAR. The sequence where Jin-tae goes to the top of the building and kills the North Koreans, he grabs their Soviet DP machine gun and starts killing even more of them.
North Koreans can't afford helmets apparently? They're fighting in trenches and artillery shells are designed to kill soldiers by shrapneling them from above. Sucks to be them.
The sequence with the human sea of Chinese soldiers is insanity. It had to have been CG for sure, but it's so hard to tell the producers did such a good job.
The only sequence that I found extremely disturbing is what happens to Yong-shim. I can't stand seeing violence against women and that part made me not want to watch this movie again. I recognized the actor in that horrible scene as the dude who gets his teeth yanked out in "Old Boy" btw...
Anyway, if anybody here really enjoyed "Private Ryan" be sure to check out "Tae Guk Gi". It was a $30 movie, but Suncoast dropped the price to $19.99, so I picked it up yesterday. I'm pretty sure you can find it for even cheaper on Amazon.com or Ebay.
-------
"Saw II" widescreen DVD is only $15 at Suncoast right now also. Be sure to pick it up before it becomes a $30 DVD again.

IGN Note that these are tentative release dates and are subject to change. Since release dates change on an almost daily basis, be sure to call your local retailer to make sure the DVD you're looking for is available. So yeah I wouldnt doubt everything to be wrong.
I just hope Dos mujeres un camino comes out on DVD.

So far, this is what I have.
http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=1&id=etrikad
There are a lot of movies that I have here in my house that I don't own. The ones I listed are the ones that I myself bought or received as gifts. Any comments/critiques are welcome. My list owns, just for the fact I have Poolhall Junkies on it, one of the greatest movies EVER.
Oh, if anyone can tell me how to get John Carpenter's The Thing on my list, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, soldier. You rock.
I'm gonna make a separate folder for my anime collection, maybe I'll do that by the weekend. I haven't picked up any new anime in over a year and a half, so my list will be a bit dated.
Also, I'm not really on the lookout for new dvds. I had a phase where I was buying new movies every other week when I got paid, but that died down. Last few new ones I bought were Pitch Black, Ong Bak, and Land of the Dead. Land of the Dead was a lot better than I thought it would be. I hope Romero still has another movie or two up his sleeve.

March 28,2006 The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! - Volume 1
holy shit!
No.
Oh...
Xena: Warrior Princess...
The Princess Bride, the Resident Evil movies, Girlfight, and Clueless I would throw away before I ever kept them in my collection also.
-----
What the most embarassing DVDs everybody else here owns? I have...
-Star Trek Deep Space Nine Season 7
(the season with the cute short haired girl)
-Emmanuel in Space the Complete Series
(which is horrible and focuses more on the guys than how hot Krista Allen's boobs are)
-Top Gun
(the most homoerotic movie I've seen in my entire life... WTF was up with the guy with the Lieutenant Dangle mustache? But Tom Cruise is a real smooth ladies man in it supposedly though, so I bought it.)
-An Elijah Wood movie I'm not going to name because I'm so embarassed of it.
-Dr. Zhivago
(which sucks and is also gay, because not only does Omar act like a woman/completely wussy, he's a terrible father and husband by cheating with the blonde girl also)
Taichi
02-21-2006, 09:59 AM
you have Flipper on DVD?
hmm, most embarassing DVD I own?
Ah! My Goddess, The Movie: I just love the art design of this flick, no other reason......
Real Bout High School Volume One: Gift from a friend "Hey, you like anime with chicks who beat the shit out of stuff, right?"
and I resent you saying you'd toss out "Princess Bride", get fucked!, that movie rules!

There was once a thread that had a link to a website that showed episodes of it for free. I think this mightve been before you registered here. Anyway though, before that, it had been a long time since i saw the show.
Also, even though it's nostalgic, it's corny.
That shit is on some, i'll buy when i buy it type shit.

I'm assuming the DVD won't have the Zelda eps?
and yeah, it might be that my love for it is clouded by years of reverence......
meaning: I might love it only because of my fond memories for it, and not by its actual content.......
Slide
02-21-2006, 12:56 PM
Well, that can be said for alot of things too y'know?
I think that has alot to do with some of my collection, nostalgia had me buying certain movies, even though i still enjoy them to the fullest to this day though(ex. Addams Family/Values). Meaning i got fond memories of it, but i also think they're both dope. But that could just be biased judgement on my part. Nobody else in this thread shares the same like for those 2 movies as i do.
I actually like my DVD collection cause it's got alot of obscure stuff, foriegn films too. Cause i mean alot of things are just far too common place, so you dont' even have to actually own the dvd yourself. Somebody else always got it. Like, "oh yeah joe and 'nem got it, so i'll just borrow it"
Everyone that's ever looked at my DVDs always found something they like. So that's always a plus when you have people over.
Damn did my post go all over the place?

I enjoy the show what can I say?
It was a cool show to me and it had a lot of seasons. Herc is the same way but i can't seem to find all them in the right places for the right prices so i still have just season 1 for that.
I guess i'm sort of biased towards Xena and Hercules, cause i mean it's the same core that brought us Evil Dead and Spider-Man movies. Aswell is the Jack of All Trades show and a bunch of other shit.
i like the way Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell etc. do their shit.
I got Sam Raimi movies and shows all over my collection.

yeah iv been noticing the addams movies on hbo the past few weeks. My favorite part of the first one was always gomez taking fester into the secret lair. i wanted a house with booby traps so bad when i was a kid.
My collection, now stripped to the essentials divides itself into basically 4 parts: 80s nostalgia, 90s geek/loner, horror, and foreign. plus television, which is my main passion right now.
stuff not really represented in my collection:
Comedy - Im not the biggest comedy guy, and i generally prefer to see them in the theatre or with audiences. most of my favorite comedies play in the revival houses anyway
film noir - i dont feel like buying bare bones editions, most of them come on tcm or revival houses so i catch them then
blockbusters - dont feel the need to own them
90s romantic comedies/teen movies - they come on tv all the time so dont feel the need to buy (it could happen to you, untamed heart ,etc)
90s indie, 70s auteur, now that i think about it i could go on about everything i dont own.

There still are a couple of movies i pick up though, in that sort of category.

Most embarassing DVD for me would probably be Zombie. I have yet to watch it all the way through. I love zombies, but for some reason, I can't watch this entire movie. I think the farthest I've gotten into it was 20 minutes or so. God damn, the acting in this movie makes Star Wars: Episode II look like The Godfather: Part II. And I know the acting isn't the focus, but damn, it hurts to watch. I should probably just skip ahead to the gore.
angryliberal
02-23-2006, 10:19 AM
i would say that gore is the one thing not represented in my collection. i'm not a fan of gore, i mean, some horrors are film i enjoy, but overall, i'm just not a gross out fan. i love the original texas chainsaw massacre, but its for different reasons than the gore and such. i've had a chance to see it 3 times at midnight on halloween, unfortunately the theater that played it on halloween night shut down. however, comedy and drama are both heavily represented in my stuff. some hollywood, but that mostly from my gf.

Wow, looking back through this thread, I notice my participation has dropped off significantly......
early on, I would impart my almost limitless knowledge of film lore, and interesting facts.....
now, I just don't get involved at all.....
but, I have one for Slide:
Anybody who knows anything about Charles Addams' Cartoons (in which the TV Show, and later, the films were based from), knows that the characters didn't have names.....
I don't know if Addams' ever approved of the character names from the show......
Paramount would've been within their rights to change the characters' names (and familial roles) in the film, instead of deviating from the 'established' canon from the show......
But it stands to reason, if they had deviated much from the established screen canon, that the film probably wouldn't have done as well.......

Alright, I am going to make an attempt with with either Spiderman, Gargoyles or GI-Joe. However, I already have all of season one and half of season 2 of Gargoyles. It is most likely it is going to be spiderman. I'll take a picture of what the quality and screens will look like as well.

you're lucky you even have one :(. also, the nearest Best Buy is 97 miles away from where i live. the only "niche" movie shop in the city is the outrageously over priced Suncoast. there's no way in hell i'm gonna pay $27.12 for a barebones dvd when i can go online and get it for $6 (Buffalo '66). the only time i even think about going in that store is on release day of [Adult Swim] box sets. for 2 whole days they are $20. after that, spiked dildo time...

Bump.
This kinda needs to stay near the top of the threads so we can actually find it seeing that you can't search for the word DVD.
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a legit lot of Disney DVDs for a decent price. I would prefer real american copies, but I won't shy away from import/region free versions as long at they are nice and cheap. I ran into a 25 disc box set on ebay and although I have some of the tittles I am considering picking it up.
Hmm... if anyone has any suggestions for things I should check out or add to my collection please let me know.

Damn cant believe this thread is dead.
Well thought Id give a heads up to anyone looking for Law and Order dvds for a cheap price. Go to EB games found season 1 2 and 5 of Law and Order SVU 25 bucks a pop. Perfect condition maybe a scrath here and there but damn plays new.
Plus I found a pretty damn good deal on The X-Files CE tv series each season for 35 dollars compared to 99 smackers from BB. The deals at COSTCO.

I would've made a seperate thread about this..........but since it's a DVD collection, no need.
I'm stoked about getting the Superman collection. I own the first two movies, but they were cheap, and didn't work on my DVD player. I am also wanting to see the original Donner cuts of 1 and 2...........and I do love documentaries.
The collection comes in a box, or tin case. 14 DVDs.
